Brock Lesnar discusses UFC 200 and discussion with Vince McMahon

In his second ESPN interview of the day, Brock Lesnar said that his illness removed him from the Octagon and he only decided to leave because of health reasons.

“I jumped back in the Octagon too soon,” Lesnar said of his return in 2010, returning to face Shane Carwin six months after 12 inches of his intestines were removed.

When asked what made him jump back in the Octagon again, Lesnar, who called himself a prizefighter, simply said he didn’t want it to be over and 20 years from now he doesn’t want to be the guy who has regrets.

The former WWE and UFC Heavyweight champion said it’s exhilarating and it’s like a weight off his shoulder was removed. “I can’t sit here faking this excitement, I am excited,” he remarked, saying that he’s thankful that UFC allowed him back and thankful that WWE is allowing him to be part of UFC 200.

He joked that he called Vince and said, “Listen old man, we can do this the easy way or the hard way,” and then he beat him up. He said there was zero hesitation from Vince McMahon and thinks that him going back to UFC and then going back to WWE to resume his work there legitimizes WWE.

UFC to promote SummerSlam during UFC 202 pay-per-view broadcast

MMA insider FrontRowBrian reported on his Twitter account that the UFC will be promoting SummerSlam during their UFC 202 show on as part of the deal to get Brock Lesnar at UFC 200.

UFC 202 will take place the day before SummerSlam on August 20 and is headlined by Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor in one of the most anticipated re-match in UFC history.

FrontRowBrian also added that Lesnar exercised his option in his contract to fight one more time in the UFC, something that Chael Sonnen reported on ESPN on Saturday night.

Lesnar will be returning to the ring at SummerSlam, his first match since defeating Dean Ambrose at WrestleMania 32.

WWE announces the hire of new Vice President of Brand

Before Mattel, Jensen’s agency experience included Ketchum and Fleishman-Hillard, where she provided creative program development and created marketing, advertising and public relations campaigns.

Brock Lesnar to face Mark Hunt at UFC 200

Nobody can accuse Brock Lesnar of taking the easy way for a paycheck at UFC 200 as his opponent will be Mark Hunt. The announcement was made during an interview on ESPN this morning.

“I feel 1,000 percent,” Lesnar told ESPN’s Hannah Storm. “The only thing I second-guess is my decision is to step away from the Octagon.” Lesnar added that his decision to quit the UFC has haunted him for the past 15 months.

“Why Mark Hunt?” Storm asked. “Why not? It could be anybody, I didn’t care, that’s how simple it is.” Lesnar said he didn’t have a say on who his opponent was going to be but he’s never turned down a fight. “If Dana White called me and he said you have opponent X, Y, and Z…he never gave me those options,” Lesnar said. He added that White said that this is the guy we want you to face. “Great, that’s what I’m gonna do,” Lesnar replied.

When asked how this came up with all the stars aligning for him to come back, Lesnar said that it was big business for both WWE and UFC and everyone is going to win. He said that his paycheck for UFC 200 contain a lot of zeros. Win, lose, or draw the former WWE champion will come out of the Octagon a very, very rich man.

The 42 year old Mark Hunt holds a 12-10-1 MMA record and has two losses in his last five MMA fights. In September 2014 he defeated Roy Nelson with a TKO, and then lost fights in a row – first to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 180 in November 2014 and to Stipe Moicic in May 2015. He returned to his winning ways at UFC 193 in November 2015 against Antonio Silva and his last fight in March 2016 he defeated Lesnar’s arch rival Frank Mir at UFC Fight Night.

Sasha Banks confirms concussion received from referee blow

During her Q&A panel at Wizard World Philadelphia two days ago, Sasha Banks confirmed that she has been out of action due to a concussion she suffered a few weeks ago at a non-televised live event.

“I got kneed in the head by a referee,” Banks said, adding that for the past few weeks she’s been sitting in the back waiting to get the all clear to return. Banks said that she was a bit surprised at what happened as she definitely wasn’t waiting for it (it was an accident) but now she’s been cleared by the WWE medical team to return and already had her first match.

She returned on the June 1 episode of Main Event where she wrestled Summer Rae, a match which she won.

Details on Rusev’s and Lana’s two planned weddings

TMZ.COM is reporting that WWE Superstars Rusev and Lana will be having two weddings, one in the United States that will be filmed for Total Divas and one in Bulgaria.

The first wedding will be next month in Malibu, California, with a beach ceremony filmed for Total Divas. TMZ says that the guest list is “packed with huge stars” including the whole cast of Total Divas and a lot of Lana’s co-stars from the Pitch Perfect movies. Actresses Brittany Snow and Kelley Jakle will be bridesmaids.

The second wedding will be in September, on the already announced September 2 date. It will be held at a 1,000 year old monastery in Rusev’s home country of Bulgaria. In a recent Q&A on Twitter, Rusev said that it will be a traditional Bulgarian wedding.

Background story on how Lesnar was able to return to UFC

The story of Brock Lesnar returning to UFC for a fight at UFC 200 has obviously generated a lot of buzz and major sports and news websites have all picked it up including ESPN, FOX Sports, CNN, Sky Sports, and many many others.

One interesting report from ESPN during a segment between Jonathan Coachman and Chael Sonnen suggested that despite Brock Lesnar being under a WWE deal, the UFC were within their right to recall him due to a prior deal way back when Lesnar retired.

According to Sonnen, when Lesnar retired due to his diverticulitis, he still had some dates left but Dana White and the UFC granted his release anyway to resume his WWE career on the condition that when they need him he would be there assuming he’s healthy. “Vince McMahon’s phone never had to ring for this,” Sonnen said.

No other source has so far corroborated Chael Sonnen’s theory although it’s safe to assume that Lesnar is going to UFC 200 with the complete blessing of Vince McMahon. White and McMahon share an interesting relationship and although they don’t see eye to eye sometimes Dana has always said he greatly respects Vince for what he’s done and achieved.

While it’s great news for both MMA and WWE fans that Lesnar is going back to the UFC for one night only, it wasn’t great news for respected MMA reported Ariel Helwani. Helwani originally broke the news of Lesnar returning before the UFC announced it while he was in the arena covering UFC 199. After UFC officials noted that the news was leaked, Helwani and his staff at MMAFighting.com were escorted out of the building.

“I love this sport & this job with all my heart. Did nothing unethical. I reported fight news. That’s it. & then told we’re banned for life,” Helwani wrote on Twitter afterward. “Here’s hoping cooler heads prevail. I sincerely love every fighter & fan of this sport. You have helped me realize a dream. Thank you.”

A look at Brock Lesnar’s UFC career so far

Brock Lesnar’s career in mixed martial arts consists of a 5-3 record, with four of those wins – and all three losses – coming in the UFC.

Lesnar had his first UFC fight against Frank Mir at UFC 81 in February 2008 in Las Vegas. While he destroyed Mir in the opening minutes, Mir caught him in a kneebar and Lesnar eventually tapped in the first round, starting his epic feud with Mir which culminated at UFC 100.

His second fight was against Heath Herring at UFC 187 in August 2008, playing “home” in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Lesnar got his first UFC win here, a unanimous decision in a fight that went all three rounds.

UFC and Dana White were criticized for giving Lesnar a UFC Heavyweight title fight so early in his career but things took an interesting turn at UFC 91 in November 2008 as the rookie Lesnar defeated the champion and UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture in the second round in Las Vegas, Nevada to win the UFC title.

His first title defense came at UFC 100 against his arch rival Frank Mir. The build-up for this PPV was as best as it could have been with the two ready to literally kill each other in the Octagon. Lesnar got his payback on this night in July 2009, viciously beating Frank Mir in the second round in Las Vegas.

Brock had to defend the title at UFC 116 against the then undefeated Shane Carwin a year later also in Las Vegas. Lesnar finished off Carwin with an arm-triangle choke in the second round for his second successful title defense.

Three months after successfully beating Shane Carwin, Lesnar got in the Octagon with Cain Velasquez at UFC 121 and this time it was bad news for the major of Suplex City as Velasquez finished the UFC Heavyweight champ with a TKO in Anaheim, California to win the title.

Lesnar’s last fight in the UFC came at UFC 141 in December 2011 against Alistair Overeem. Lesnar was finished in the first round in just two minutes and a half after Overeem knocked him out with a body kick and punches. After the fight, Lesnar announced his retirement from the UFC.

Brock often said that his diverticulitis effected the way he fought and was never at 100% of his abilities during his time in the UFC due to his condition. The beast is now 100% healthy and ready to suplex anyone into oblivion.

His involvement in UFC pay-per-views often resulted in big buyrates. His first UFC 81 appearance drew 600,000 while his second drew 625,000 against Herring. His title fight against Couture drew 1,010,000 buys and then his monster fight against Mir did 1.6 million buys. He once again broke the million buys for his fight against Carwin with 1,060,000 buys and nearly touched that again against Velasquez, drawing 900,000. His last fight against Overeem drew only 535,000.

Brock Lesnar still under WWE contract, given one-time permission for UFC fight

In a short statement issued on WWE.COM, WWE has confirmed that Lesnar is fighting at UFC 200 with their complete blessing, giving him a one-time opportunity to be part of the biggest UFC pay-per-view of all time.

“Brock Lesnar remains under contract to WWE, however, he has been granted a one-off opportunity to compete at UFC 200. Following this milestone event on July 9, Brock will return to WWE for SummerSlam on Sunday, August 21, live on WWE Network.”

Lesnar has not appeared on WWE television since WrestleMania 32 in Dallas, Texas, and considering this news it looks like he went straight to camp to get this fight done. It is a risky move considering that if Lesnar loses this fight it will be difficult to build him up as the monster he is for a SummerSlam feud no matter who his opponent is.

In an interview earlier with ESPN, Dana White discussed how a few weeks ago Brock Lesnar’s profile popped up on the active roster on UFC.COM. WWE noticed it, and so did Lesnar’s lawyers and White was on the receiving end of some legal phone calls to take it down immediately. White said there was nothing to it as they’re building a new database and the .COM people gave him a “whacky” explanation why he eventually popped up on the live site.

Brock Lesnar returning to UFC for one more fight at UFC 200

When you have a milestone pay-per-view, you call in the big guns. And there’s no bigger gun than Brock Lensar.

In what seems to be the news that shocked both the MMA and pro wrestling world, former WWE and UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has been announced for a fight at the upcoming UFC 200 pay-per-view, with an opponent to be named tomorrow on ESPN.

The beast incarnate was shown at the end of the UFC 200 commercial with all the major names participating in this show, throwing a punch at the camera.

Lesnar headlined the UFC 100 pay-per-view against Frank Mir and up until Conor McGregor came along it was the highest grossing pay-per-view in UFC history.

Last year Lesnar was courted by the UFC to return when his WWE contract was coming up right after WrestleMania. Lesnar, on ESPN, announced that he was passing on that opportunity and signed a new WWE deal much to the relief of Vince McMahon and everyone at WWE.

You can see the commercial below.

Cody Rhodes to wrestle TNA’s Mike Bennett

Cody Rhodes’ opponent for his match at the Wrestling Under The Stars event on August 26 will be TNA’s Miracle, Mike Bennett.

The match was announced yesterday by Rhodes on his Twitter and joining Bennett will be Maria while Cody’s other half, Brandi, will be in his corner. The event is promoted by Northeast Wrestling and will take place at the Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The next day Rhodes will take on Kurt Angle in a match for the same promotion which will be held at the Dutchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls, New York.

But before all this, Rhodes will make his debut for EVOLVE on August 19, the same day that his no-compete clause with WWE expires. EVOLVE currently enjoys a good relationship with WWE so it will be interesting how Rhodes will be booked for this event.

Randy Orton to guest star in new USA Network series titled Shooter

Randy Orton will be guest starring on USA Network’s upcoming new drama series Shooter which has its series premiere on Tuesday, July 19.

The series is led by Ryan Phillipe with Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura as executive producers. Phillipe plays an expert marksman living in exile who is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the president.

Orton will play the role of James Richards, a former Navy SEAL and leader of a militia group who comes into contact with Phillipe’s character.

The former WWE champion has been out of action since September and has not appeared on WWE television since then due to a shoulder injury which required surgery. His return to the WWE ring is imminent.

John Cena gets his first opponent: AJ Styles at Money In The Bank

The first ever encounter between John Cena and AJ Styles will take place at the Money In The Bank pay-per-view this month and it will be Cena’s first match since late December and his first one on pay-per-view since October.

The match was announced on WWE.COM yesterday and comes after The Club viciously attacked Cena on his first night back on Raw this past Monday.

“It’s been called a #DreamMatch. Now, after 15 years of wondering “what if,” @WWENetwork finally brings you AJ Styles vs. Cena @WWE #MITB,” Cena wrote on Twitter after the announcement.

“It’s like WrestleMania comes early,” AJ Styles said in a Facebook Live post. He said what he did to Cena on Monday is just a small dose of what he can do to him come Money In The Bank. He said on Raw this Monday he will explain why this is a dream match for him.

Muhammad Ali passes away at age 74

Perhaps the greatest sportsman of our lifetime, Muhammad Ali, passed away last night at the age of 74.

Ali was admitted to a hospital on June 2 with respiratory problems and has suffered from Parkinson’s disease since 1984. With a record of 56 wins, 5 losses, and several boxing titles, no one can dispute the description that many people give him, simply known as the greatest of all time.

Ali’s connection with wrestling pre-dates his WrestleMania appearance as in 1976 he fought against Antonio Enoki in a boxer vs wrestler match in Tokyo, Japan. In 1985, Muhammad Ali was a part of WrestleMania and served as a special enforcer in the main event between Hulk Hogan and Mr T vs Rowdy Roddy Piper and Mr Wonderful. In that match Ali also got physical and took a shot at Piper.

The WWE website acknowledged Ali’s death with a short post while several WWE Superstars paid tribute to the champ on their Twitter and Instagram accounts.

The WWE belongs to The Club.” Woods restates that they are the champions, but Styles calls Kofi “a joke.”

Becky continues her momentum with clotheslines, and then a running forearm in the corner. She brings her out with an Exploder Suplex for a near-fall. Charlotte chops and leaps with a neckbreaker, then chops some more. Lynch hits back again, but is caught with a roll-up for two! Becky catches Charlotte in a sunset-flip then an armbreaker. Sami and Kevin start out, with Owens aggressive early until Zayn comes back with a headscissors! Del Rio is tagged in, and Sami brings him to his and Ambrose’s corner, and then switches with Dean. “The Lunatic Fringe” kicks Alberto in the corner but is overtaken soon, and makes the tag to Sami. Del Rio reverses a suplex and lands a backstabber on Zayn; Owens is in and both he and Alberto go back-and-forth for a bit on Sami.

Dean is tagged and dives onto Alberto forward-first to the floor, but Owens chucks Ambrose into the corner of the barricade.

Del Rio and Kevin continue to govern on Dean until Sami rockets over the top rope with a Swanton-Plancha! Ambrose counters a kick by Alberto and brings him to the canvas with a swinging neckbreaker, but can’t tag as Sami was knocked from the apron. Del Rio tries a running-enziguri, but Dean ducks and he hits Owens! Sami is tagged and runs into Alberto with the Helluva Kick and covers to receive the victory!

Winners via Pinfall: Dean Ambrose and Sami Zayn

Match #4: Single – United States Champion Rusev (with Lana) VS. Jack Swagger

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns’ and Seth Rollins’ interaction on Raw is aired.

Match #5: Single – Tag-Team Champion/New Day partner Kofi Kingston (with Tag-Team Champions/New Day partners Xavier Woods and Big E.) VS. The Club member A.J. Styles (with The Club members Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson)

They lockup and trade side headlock-takedowns and headscissor-counters. A.J. armdrags Kofi a couple times. Kingston slides through Styles and hurricanranas him, then rapidly kicks in the corner. Both teams now enter and jaw at each other, with referee John Coan trying to hold them back.

Commercials.

It is still a singles bout, with Kofi leapfrogging A.J. a couple of times then hitting a jumping-twisting elbow! A.J. whips Kofi, but the Tag Champ slides down and trips A.J. Again, both teams face-off, which Styles capitalizes with by hurling Kingston into the ring post.

A.J. chops Kofi in the corner and then gives him a backbreaker. Kingston counters with a jawbreaker, but A.J. hits back with fast elbows and a clothesline! Kofi comes back with a monkey-flip form the corner and goes for the Trouble In Paradise spin-kick a bit later, but A.J. ducks. Styles goes for the Styles Clash, but Kingston gets out of it, and props A.J. on the top turnbuckle.

“The Phenomenal One” counters and is on the apron, but Xavier distracts by playing the trumpet; A.J. springboards, but Kofi ducks. On the outside, The Club and New Day go at it again, and this time Kofi gets involved, flipping over the top rope onto Gallows. He gets back in the ring, but is met with a Pele Kick by Styles, who then follows with the Styles Clash for the victory!

Winner via Pinfall: A.J. Styles (with The Club members Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson)

Post-match, The Club walk up the ramp as Big E. and Xavier hold up Kofi to close the show.

End of Smackdown!

Reporter’s Rumblings

This was a another decent week, but not a superb one. As average, some I liked, some I didn’t! Here’s the analysis:

Excellence: matches between New Day/Vaudevillians (Raw), Enzo/Cass and The Dudleyz, Six-Man Main-Event (Raw), Becky/Charlotte (Smackdown!), Ambrose/Sami/Owens/Del Rio (Smackdown!), Rusev/Swagger (Smackdown!), and Kofi/A.J. (Smackdown!)

Promos from New Day (Raw), Show/Crews (Raw), Enzo/Big Cass – as always!) (Raw), John Cena (Raw), Miz (Raw), Cesaro/Owens/Sami/Jericho/Dean/Del Rio (Raw and Smackdown! combs), and New Day/The Club (Smackdown!),

I loved the heel turn by A.J. on Raw; I actually didn’t see that coming, and it was a cool swerve. This feud with Cena and New Day VS. The Club is going to be fantastic. Same with the Money In The Bank match; all six have great chemistry both on the mike and in the ring, so their rivalry is solid as well!

Rollins/Roman are continuing to mesh well and Seth has picked up right where he left off before injury!

Nice to see Enzo back and hope he does well, both personally (physically) and in storyline!

Bogus: again, not caring about Golden Truth/Breezango feud; finish it at Money In The Bank and move on!

It’s a shame, but Natalya/Becky/Brooke/Charlotte feud is falling a bit for me, I think because of the shorter matches they have been given on the shows. Thankfully, Smackdown’s was a bit longer, but still, I’d like to see at least a good 20-minute bout between any of them.

Rusev/Swagger should’ve been saved for upcoming Monday’s Raw, as it is in Oklahoma; they had a great match, but I would’ve actually liked to see Swagger win the U.S. Title then for a “feel-good moment” in his career.

I’m really not sure on the Brand Extension. My biggest worry is constant trades/invasions again. No more of that; if they split the rosters, then they should remain on that show (except for all Champions, who should travel to both), for at least one year. In that calendar time, NO invasions/crossovers other than the Champions.

Until Raw, Be Excellent Wrestling-Online Fans!

Rusev’s and Lana’s wedding date reportedly set

There are rumors that the wedding of WWE Superstars Rusev and Lana has been set for September 2, 2016.

The two have been dating since their early NXT days and now live together in a big home in Nashville, Tennessee. After WWE split them up in a storyline which also involved Dolph Ziggler and Summer Rae, Rusev, 30, and Lana, 31, “leaked” their engagement to TMZ, causing creative problems with the storyline which was eventually scrapped. Lana returned with Rusev on-screen as well and has been by her man’s side ever since.

With Lana now part of the upcoming season of Total Divas, it wouldn’t be a surprise if E! decides to film their wedding for another season. Total Divas has already featured the weddings of Tyson Kidd and Natalya, Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella, and Jimmy Uso and Naomi.
