Betting odds for Hell In A Cell 2017

Another month, another pay-per-view…and another look at the current betting odds for tonight’s show, Hell In A Cell.

Jinder Mahal remains the favorite going in to win the match with odds at 1/3, while Shinsuke Nakamura is at 2/1.

In the two Hell In A Cell matches, Kevin Owens is at 1/7 to defeat Shane O’Mac while the Smackdown Commissioner is at 4/1. The Usos are also now favorites to win the match and the Smackdown Tag Team titles with odds at 4/9 while The New Day are at 13/8 to retain.

Charlotte Flair is 1/7 to win the match and the title tonight while Natalya is at 4/1 to retain. Baron Corbin is also favorite to win his United States title match against AJ Styles, with Corbin at 4/6 and Styles at 11/10 in the odds.

In other matches, Bobby Roode is at 1/8 favorite over Dolph Ziggler who is at 9/2, Randy Orton is 2/9 favorite against Rusev who is at 3/1, and in the Kickoff match, Gable and Benjamin have 1/10 odds while The Hype Bros are at 11/2.

If odds prove to be correct, we could see three title changes out of four tonight. Odds are correct as of 2PM EST and will likely change by bell time.

Brock Lesnar becomes longest-reigning WWE Universal champion

There have only been four WWE Universal champions ever since the title was introduced in August 2016 and today, Brock Lesnar just became the longest reigning champion.

Lesnar is now at 189 days as champion, beating Kevin Owens’ previous record of 188 days. Owens won the title on Monday Night Raw on August 29, 2016 and lost it to Goldberg at Fastlane on March 5, 2017.

Goldberg’s reign lasted 28 days, taking him to WrestleMania 34 before doing the job to Lesnar on April 2. Brock has been the champion ever since, defending the title only three times – against Samoa Joe at Great Balls of Fire, in a fatal 4-way against Reigns, Strowman, and Joe at SummerSlam, and at No Mercy against Strowman.

The inaugural WWE Universal champion is Finn Balor but his reign lasted only 24 hours after he was forced to vacate it following a shoulder injury.

Hell In A Cell 2017 Pick’Em report

Hey Everybody! It’s @TheMagnumDA with you for today’s Hell in a Cell PPV Pick’Em Report. Today, I’m joined by our fearless Editor-in-Chief Colin Vassallo. Thanks again for your time and effort buddy!

Kickoff Match: Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin vs. Hype Bros

Colin: Not really interested in this match. Gable/Benjamin win.

Magnum: I think this is the match that finally pushes the Hype Bros. off the edge. Give it to the new American Alpha.

Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler

Colin: I’m a big fan of Bobby Roode. I like Dolph Ziggler too, I think he’s a fantastic worker and under utilized. At this point, Roode needs the win more than Ziggler does. Ever since he moved up from NXT, Roode has been kinda lost. He needs the W here so I’m going for Bobby.

Magnum: There’s a theory I have…those who get the push will get the duke. I’m digging Roode here as well.

Rusev vs. Randy Orton

Colin: Vince loves Randy. So Randy wins. BTW, I can’t wait for Orton to turn heel again. That’s when he’s at his best.

Magnum: This seems like a placeholder match for Randy, but again…I think there’s something to be said about getting a push. Unless Rusev is being punished for something…I could see a massive upset here. Give me RUSEV MACHKA.

Smackdown Women’s Championship Match: Natalya (c) vs. Charlotte Flair

Colin: Do they go the sentimental way and give Charlotte the title? I don’t know, it took Natalya a LONG time to get that title and I would think they would give her a longer reign. I say Nattie wins, somehow. Might not be a clean victory though.

Magnum: I think tonight’s the night. Charlotte wins the title to get the crowd behind her…and then F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S. Cash-in time! Carmella walks out with the gold.

United States Championship Match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Baron Corbin

Colin: If Corbin wins, we’ll know he’s out of the shithouse. Me thinks AJ Styles retains. Styles doesn’t really need the title, but he makes the title seem more important.

Magnum: Doghouses typically last a little longer than 90 days. Give me AJ Styles to retain the championship.

Hell in a Cell Match for the Smackdown Tag Team Championship: The New Day (c) vs. The Usos

Colin: They have traded the titles a couple of times already. This can be the best match on the card to be honest. I like The Usos as heels. It’s time for these two teams to move on from each other as they have been feuding since July. The New Day retains.

Magnum: This is the match where The Usos finally establish themselves as the top dogs in Smackdown. No tag team has impressed me more with their evolution. These guys are ready to stake their claim. Usos take it.

WWE Championship Match: Jinder Mahal (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Colin: I think it’s time to pull the plug on Mahal as the champion. The problem is Nakamura still can’t cut a decent promo. With the India tour coming up, logic would say that Mahal would go there as the champion. But Nakamura already lost at SummerSlam. Two losses in a row would spell the end of this one. Nakamura for the W. Not necessarily a new champion though.

Magnum: If they give Nakamura a win without the title here, it’s as bad as a loss. Unfortunately, I don’t see Nakamura winning either. I think someone interferes in this match to give Shinsuke a fresh, new opponent at Survivor Series. Sadly, that means the JBL reign of Jinder Mahal continues. Mahal for the W.

Hell in a Cell Match: Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens

Colin: This is a tough one. They keep putting Shane in matches and he always loses. Perhaps, this is the match that he gets the win and revenge for his father. With this being a falls count anywhere match, it’s already saying that action will spill out of the cage somehow. Probably McMahon will get some help. Shane wins this one.

Magnum: I’ve heard rumors about Kevin Owens returning to Raw, so this should be one hell of a send-off. I think we’ll see KO try something we’ve never seen before, so I do hope for his safety. Owens gets the win in a brutal match, and a renewed push on Raw begins here. KO for the W.

Thanks everyone for reading! Enjoy HELL IN A CELL tonight! See you later this month for TLC!

Jim Cornette and Santino Marella face off in nasty argument in Detroit

For many who don’t know, Santino Marella and Jim Cornette are not friends, and probably, they never will be. And yesterday at a convention in Detroit, the two went face-to-face in the halls of the Cobb Center and it wasn’t pretty.

Marella and Cornette have history dating back to 2005 when Marella began training at Ohio Valley Wrestling. In July of that year, there was a segment where he was supposed to act afraid of The Boogeyman, however, things went south and Marella started laughing instead. Jim Cornette, who was booking the promotion back then, snapped and slapped Marella across his face. Cornette was eventually fired by WWE which was overseeing OVW at the time.

The face-to-face in Detroit was captured on video and sees Marella standing in front of Cornette as the two argued. Cornette tells him that he has nothing to say to him but Marella continues to block him from walking away.

“Get the f*ck away from me. I’m trying to walk away from you,” Cornette tells Marella. When he’s blocked again, Cornette turns around to the fans walking by and says, “Hey, look at this guy! He’s trying to start a fight with me and I’m trying to walk away. Motherf*cker, I don’t have a god damn thing to say…” and then the video gets cut off.

Meanwhile, after the incident, Cornette tweeted, “Sorry to anyone I missed at Cobo, some comedy midget wanted me to slap him AGAIN so he could sue since he’s unemployed. Walked out instead.”

Total Bellas S2 E5 episode recap: Wine About It

In this episode, the entire Bella clan relocated once again, leaving Phoenix for Napa Valley California for the launch of Brie’s and Nikki’s new specialty wine collection.

While the entire family was pleased to travel to Napa for the launch of the collection, Brie’s husband, Bryan, was concerned about his wife tasting the wine given advanced stage of her pregnancy. Of course, as usual, Bryan’s request that Brie refrain from tasting the new wine sparked a family debate concerning Brie’s rights as a woman, as well as the health risks associated with drinking while pregnant.

In the end, however, Brie decided to honor Bryan’s request, and only gargle the wine before spitting it out. Brie particularly reached this decision after considering how she might be judged by others visiting the Napa Valley vineyard. The thought prompted the twins to conduct an experiment in which Nikki would pretend to be pregnant while drinking wine at the vineyard.

After the twins began the experiment it became quite apparent that people are indeed extremely judgmental of pregnant women who choose to drink wine. Not only did Nikki receive sidelong glances, but she also had a waiter who refused to pour her a full glass of wine she asked for one. Perhaps the vineyard was trying to save itself from potential liability should something go wrong with Nikki’s supposed pregnancy?

While I have my own opinions concerning pregnant women drinking, I choose not to voice them because I believe that each individual woman is entitled to do what they believe is best for themselves and for their babies. That being said, I believe it was highly inappropriate for Brie’s family to get involved in the discussion between her and Bryan about whether she should drink or not. They should have let the couple come to their own decision without giving an opinion one way or the other.

However, keeping their opinions to themselves doesn’t seem to be something that the Bella clan is very capable of. The family’s loose lips were further in evidence later in this episode when Bryan asked Bella matriarch, Kathy, for business advice.

It seems that Bryan isn’t always going to be content with working for WWE on the sidelines, but is looking to become an entrepreneur selling subscriptions to a sort of gardening service which would dispense seeds and gardening advice to its customers on a monthly basis.

Kathy was thrilled that Bryan was asking for her advice particularly because her daughters seem to reject her input on their business plans. While I see how this can be insulting to Kathy who has achieved much business success, I also can see why the twins might want to achieve business success on their own without their mother’s input. However, I also find it appalling that they would slam Bryan for seeking her advice.

In starting his business, one in which neither of the twins is directly involved, he should feel free to seek advice from whomever he chooses. Further, when she was upset, Kathy proceeded to air all the grievances that she was currently harboring against her daughters. These included the girls criticism of her wardrobe and cooking skills, and their incessant teasing. While I understand that all of Kathy’s feelings came to the surface at once, I don’t feel it was appropriate to air all her grievances at once. This caused the twins to feel attacked and respond by attacking their mother even more.

After Kathy stormed from the room Bryan and Kathy’s husband, John Laurenaitis, explained that the twins teasing was only all right to do if everyone was enjoying being teased. In the end, Brie and Nikki apologized to their mom, but they weren’t the only ones needed to learn that a joke is only funny if everyone is laughing.

Throughout the weekend Napa, Brie and Nikki’s brother JJ had been playing what he considered to be harmless pranks on the entire family. For example, he put a fart machine under Kathy’s chair during a dinner with Brie and Nikki’s new business partners, and scared John while he was flipping hamburgers causing him to spill his wine on Nikki’s sweater.

However, JJ took his pranks a bit far when he scared Nikki causing her to trip and fall down the stairs cutting her hand. Hopefully, the entire Bella clan has gotten all the immaturity out of their systems, just in time for next week’s Total Bellas season finale.

Cody Rhodes issues long statement on the return of Starrcade and WarGames

Addressing his recent criticism towards WWE for bringing back Starrcade and WarGames, two events that his father created, Cody Rhodes softened his stance on the subject and attributed his remarks to protecting his father’s legacy.

“As head of his estate, I try to always honor and never exploit. There’s no guidebook on how I’m supposed to do that. I loved him,” Cody wrote, adding that his comments were from the heart.

He said that he did not need to give his permission for WWE to go ahead and revive these events but he did admit that they told him beforehand, something that he says they didn’t have to, “but they did and for that I am thankful.”

Cody said that he understands that WWE owns anything that his dad Dusty created for Jim Crockett Promotions and WCW and that they can do with them whatever they feel like it.

“That doesn’t mean I always have to like it though. If my father had not been a public figure, I wouldn’t have to share him with the millions of wrestling fans out there. But I gladly d share him. I want generations of fans to know what he brought…because I feel it’s a beautiful legacy filled with treasures,” he concluded.

Current betting odds for Hell In A Cell main events

WWE’s next pay-per-view Hell In A Cell airs tomorrow night on the WWE Network, headlined by two HIAC matches and a WWE title match.

In the WWE title match, the current champion Jinder Mahal is the overwhelming favorite to win at 1/4, while his opponent Shinsuke Nakamura is at 5/2 to win.

The Hell In A Cell matches will feature Shane McMahon vs Kevin Owens and The Usos vs The New Day.

Kevin Owens is at 1/7 to come out victorious while Shane is a very distant second at 15/4 while The New Day are slightly favorite at 7/10 to win the match with The Usos at 2/1.

My friend, Lance Russell

By Dr Mike Lano, wrestling magazine professional photographer and writer since 1966, and syndicated U.S. radio host.

Days after losing arguably wrestling’s greatest heel commentator, our world lost perhaps its greatest TV announcer in 91-year-old Lance Russell who died last Tuesday morning, October 3.

Lance did lead announcing and commentary, primarily in the Memphis, TN., territory from 1959 to 1997 including his WCW stint, where he’s credited with inventing their famous 1-900 phone line that began in 1989 during the Ted Turner full buyout from Crockett. There, Lance finally got to play off his idol Gordon Solie plus doing primary commentary with friends like Terry Funk, Paul Heyman, Freebirds, plus of course Jim Cornette providing the heel color.

Lance said, “I’m always flustered, but tickled to death that wrestling tape-traders had gotten to see and appreciate my work in Memphis. I’d get recognized everywhere I went, but finally figured out how and why. I’m so grateful and appreciative. You know I broke in reading scripted football game text when I began broadcasting at age 22.”

Lance loved telling the story of how he convinced then Memphis promoters Nick Gulas and Roy Welch (prior to Jerry Jarrett taking over) to change Memphis’ wrestling’s time slot to Saturday mornings to draw in the adults not watching cartoons who wanted something to watch when they were getting up.

Many of the boys laughed at him until they drew Japan-like record ratings that will seemingly never be duplicated in terms of market share. He hired a young radio DJ and green TV weather news reader Dave Brown in 1967 to become his on-air sidekick and the duo are regarded as possibly wrestling’s best of all time.

“Jerry Lawler was just a young teen when he began sending us his drawn cartoons of some of our athletes from the Coliseum. I invited him to join us on TV and his love of the business became evident. As he got older, we got him trained and he became our biggest superstar next to Jackie Fargo and Sputnick Monroe,” Lance recounted.

He indeed was the voice of wrestling in Memphis, a city split by racial divides and injustice until top heel Sputnick refused to come out of the dressing room unless the area seats could be integrated between their white and African-American fans. Lance also at times did ring-announcing and full-on commentary from Memphis’ Mid-South Coliseum’s mega-shows.

“I called nearly everything and from everywhere but one of the events I’m proudest of and had the most fun calling was our famous Tupelo, MS., Concession Stand Brawl. Lawler and Dundee versus Blonde Bombers, Wayne Ferris and his partner Larry Latham. And of course our Empty Arena fight between Lawler and the great Terry Funk,” Lance told me in 2003.

Lance didn’t like being abused physically, but allowed Jimmy Hart, the Dream Machine, Funk and even the Road Warriors to “man-handle me for the sake of TV and selling tickets.”

He said he had a good relationship with AWA boss Verne Gagne when the inter-promotional was going on, calling for TV the match where Lawler beat Curt Hennig for the AWA singles title.

Often called the Thesz of announcers, to see some of Lance’s impressive verbal magic with Andy Kaufman just watch the 1989 documentary “I’m From Hollywood” plus Lance’s revisionist magic in the 1999 Jim Carrey Kaufman biopic film Man On The Moon.

Few were as believable as the cool Lance Russell, playing exasperated bystander announcer at some of the inane and violent things Eddie Gilbert, Tommy Rich or Austin Idol would try to pull on top Memphis faces like Lawler, Dutch Mantell, Superstar Bill Dundee, Jimmy Valiant and of course Jackie Fargo.

He’d sadly fallen and broken his hip (the complications of which caused his untimely passing) in a fall last Friday soon after his daughter Valerie herself died in a Memphis hospital following her long cancer fight.

He’s survived by sons Lance Jr and Shane. His beloved wife Audrey died two years ago after a marriage that lasted over 67 years, first meeting in school.

His longtime friend Jerry Lawler broke the news on Twitter and the comparisons to Lance playing Howard Cossell to Lawler’s Ali on classic Memphis television are accurate. There were few duos other than Dick Lane/Fred Blassie and John Tolos, Gene Okerlund and Bobby Heenan who even came close. Lance many times said on my show, “I’ve been around so long, when I started in TV, it was called radio.”

I honored Lance and Bobby Heenan last year at a last-minute Cauliflower Alley Club Las Vegas seminar I was asked to host and put together with a few days notice (someone else had bowed out last minute). With so many great talkers present, I gathered all the boys and simply called it “Wrestling’s Great Voices.”

Lance and Bobby got standing O’s from the others on the dais and contributing from the front row including Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Gene Okerlund, Pat Patterson, Pepper Martin, Jerry Brisco, Terry Funk, Akio Sato, JJ Dillon, Howard Finkel and many others who were with us for our primary PM awards banquet later that night.

I was glad I could get a shot of Lance with Bobby but now very sad we’ve lost both 5-star legends. I opened telling our record-breaking crowd that our Mount Rushmore would have to start with Lance, Gordon Solie and Jim Ross for greatest announcers.

Lance was born March 18th, 1926 and is in many Halls of Fame including the NWA, Hall of Heroes, USWA, Memphis Hall of Fame and of course the Wrestling Observer HOF. Most importantly, he’s surely in the hall of fame hearts of wrestling people everywhere “on this little planet we call Earth” as Lance put it.

When I asked how he wanted to be remembered in 2011, he said, “Just as a guy who loved what he was doing, loved his family and wrestling family and hope I’ve made some positive contributions. I hope I left this little planet better than I found it and touched some people along the way.”

Dana White says Brock Lesnar is under a WWE deal till August 2018

During an appearance on The Dan Le Batard Show on ESPN radio, UFC President Dana White revealed that Brock Lesnar is under contract to WWE until August 2018, and not till April just past WrestleMania as everyone thought.

White discussed a bit Brock Lesnar when the topic of Jon Jones came up and what could have happened had Jones not messed up again. White admitted that Jones was going to the heavyweight division and when the hosts pressed White about the Lesnar/Jones fight, White said, “Well, Lesnar was still under contract to the WWE until next August. Who knows what would have happened.”

The hosts once again asked White if that was the plan and White replied saying that WWE did not want to do that agreement again, where Lesnar went to the UFC while still under a WWE deal because “it didn’t look good for anybody.”

Lesnar was popped for failing a drug test and his win against Mark Hunt at UFC 200 was struck off the record and changed to a no contest.

Dave Bautista gets his own movie franchise

One individual who is challenging The Rock and John Cena in Hollywood is none other than former WWE champion Dave Bautista.

Deadline.com is reporting that the former Evolution member is getting his own movie franchise after STX Entertainment finalized a deal with Batusita to develop an action-comedy franchise that he will star in and produce.

Jonathan Meisner will co-produce alongside Bautista, and Drew Simon will oversee the project for the studio. No other information has been released about the franchise.

Bautista is now part of the Marvel family as well, having successfully played the role of Drax The Destroyer in the two Guardians of the Galaxy movies. He will be appearing as well in the much-anticipated Avengers: Infinity War.

Impact rating for 10/05/2017

Impact on POP did 251,000 viewers, down 13,000 viewers from last week’s show. The show fell off the top 150 cable chart in the 18-49 demographic, registering only a 0.05 rating in that department. (Ratings credit: Showbuzzdaily.com)

Brock Lesnar added to the Survivor Series

Brock Lesnar has been added to the Survivor Series pay-per-view page after he was left out of the event.

Lesnar was not originally scheduled to be a part of the show but is now also showing up on Raws leading up to the Survivor Series. Interesting enough, Lesnar is not advertised on the Raw the day after the Survivor Series.

One Superstar who will not be at the show is John Cena, who is once again missing this particular pay-per-view. Cena has missed the past two Survivor Series – in 2015 and 2016 – as he was busy filming the reality TV show for FOX.

The Rock’s Fast & Furious spinoff movie gets a 2019 release date

The Hollywood Reporter is carrying an exclusive story reporting that the Fast & Furious spinoff featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham is set for a June 26, 2019 release.

Originally, Fast 9 was set for 2019 but was pushed back to 2020, sparking a feisty response from one of its stars, Tyrese Gibson, blaming The Rock for stalling the release and making the whole franchise “about him.”

The still yet to be named spinoff will be written by Chris Morgan, who has written every single Fast movie since Tokyo Drift.

“Fast & Furious is one of Universal’s most beloved properties, and we handle every decision we make surrounding this franchise with great care,” Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley told The Hollywood Reporter. “The global brand of Fast & Furious is strong and full of iconic characters, and we look forward to continuing to build on the film that started it all, as well as expanding into different narratives beginning with our first spinoff.”

The spinoff will focus on Luke Hobbs, the Diplomatic Security Service agent played by Johnson, and Deckard Shaw, played by Statham, who once was the movie’s main villain. The

WWE to report Q3 2017 financial results on October 26

WWE announced that it will report its third quarter 2017 results on Thursday, October 26, 2017, before the opening of the market.

Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, Chief Strategy & Financial Officer George A. Barrios, and Chief Revenue & Marketing Officer Michelle D. Wilson will host a conference call beginning at 11:00AM ET to discuss the results.

This is where the company will announce its latest WWE Network subscribers number. Wall Street typically reacts negatively to WWE’s earnings mainly based on the usual-disappointing Network numbers although WWE stocks often recover to its usual trading average.

The conference call will be available at corporate.wwe.com.

Total Bellas season two episode five rating

Episode five of season two of Total Bellas titled Wine About It drew 539,000 viewers, the least-watched show of season two so far. It’s down 21,000 viewers from episode four. (Ratings credit: Showbuzzdaily.com)

Tyrese Gibson rips on Dwyane Johnson for delaying Fast 9

Tyrese Gibson, one of the stars of the Fast & Furious franchise, used Instagram to rip on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, blaming him for Fast 9 being pushed back to 2020.

“Congratulations to @TheRock and your brother in law aka 7 bucks producing partner @hhgarcia41 for making The Fast and the Furious franchise about YOU,” he wrote.

He added that if they call him to remove the post, he still would not be deleting it. “Gn folks see you in 2020 April #FastFamily right? Nah….. it’s about #TeamDewayne #3yrs will it be worth the wait?”

Johnson is doing a spinoff based on his Fast & Furious character of DSS agent Luke Hobbs and he is being joined by Jason Statham, who is also part of the series. Tyrese then took a dig at The Rock and wondered if this spinoff will be just “another Baywatch,” a movie which didn’t do well in the box office.

WWE 24: Goldberg premieres on the WWE Network in November

The next installment of WWE 24 will come next month in November as WWE 24: Goldberg premieres on the WWE Network at a date still to be confirmed.

This will be the 13th episode of the very popular behind-the-scenes original series on the WWE Network. WWE 24: Goldberg will take a look at the return of Goldberg to the company last year after a 12-year absence from the wrestling industry.

The former WCW and Universal champion made his triumphant return to WWE in October and took on Brock Lesnar at the Survivor Series, beating him in under a minute and 30 seconds. Goldberg then appeared at the Royal Rumble, also eliminating Lesnar before he got thrown out by The Undertaker. At Fastlane, he defeated Kevin Owens to become the new WWE Universal champion, a title he lost to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania earlier this year.

Charlotte recounts story of how her dad couldn’t remember her while in ICU

Charlotte Flair appeared on the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast this week to promote her new book and talk a bit about her father.

An interesting part of the show came when Charlotte was discussing how Ric did not remember her at one point while he was in intensive care.

Charlotte recounted how after it was safe to be taken off all the machines, doctors helped her father to walk around. When she was there, Flair had no idea who his daughter was but he was going over the town names of the shows he did back in the 80s.

“I was like, that’s great he can quote me the numbers from a show in Chicago in the 80s but he doesn’t know who I am?” Charlotte said.

Charlotte also added that at one point while he was pushing the walker, her father stopped and started strutting in intensive care…but still couldn’t recall who Charlotte was!
“I was just like this isn’t real,” she said.
