Fighters who transitioned from MMA to pro wrestling

Fighting is one of the few professional sports which have genuinely transferable skills. This is especially true when you consider MMA. MMA already consists of mixed martial arts, which means people can use whatever fighting skill they have, to compete.

It’s not a surprise to learn that many fighters crossover into other rings and even become successful in their new positions.

Here are just a few of the best MMA fighters that transitioned into Professional Wrestlers.

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey is a powerhouse. Wherever you took a peek at the UFC odds, you would see her up at the top of the rankings as everyone knew she would beat all of her opponents.

Nearing the end of her UFC career, Rousey was a judo Olympia, a Strikeforce Champion, and a Bantamweight Champion – an accomplishment she easily defended 6 times.

As everything was going super smoothly for her, Rousey decided to ditch the UFC and instead join the WWE.

In her new role as a wrestler, Rousey instantly made history becoming the first woman to star as the main event in Wrestlemania. As you can expect it wasn’t long before Rousey became a champion in the WWE too.

Dan Severn

Serven was one of the few fighters to become a professional wrestler and join the UFC in the same year. You cannot say that Serven was more of one fighter than the other, as even in training he studied free-style wrestling, jiu-jitsu, and judo.

In 1994, he joined both professional leagues. In the UFC he made it to the finals but lost to the legendary Royce Gracie. He was invited to participate in the first-ever UFC Superfight, and again he lost but this time against Ken Shamrock.

It was a time without divisions or weight classes, so the fact that he could hang on so long is an achievement in itself.

In the NWA, Severn became a two-time heavyweight champion and a legend in his own right. Severn ended his career in both the NWA Hall of Fame and the UFC Hall of Fame too.

Matt Riddle

In his first stint in the Ultimate Fighter ring, Riddle knocked out his opponent in just 9 seconds during the second round. He didn’t win the tournament but the skills he showed were enough to sign him into the UFC.

In his time with the UFC he bounced from win to loss to win to loss, but the real kicker was when he tested positive for cannabis use.

The UFC kicked him off the roster when the second test came back as a failure too. Searching for another path, Riddle turned to the WWE and NXT.

In recent years Riddle has managed to push for the championships winning more and more tournaments than he ever did in the UFC.

Junior Dos Santos

In the UFC, Santos has dominated as a heavyweight champion. He has created a world-famous gym that houses the MMA stars. But with success coming so easily, Santos started looking for a new challenge. That’s when he turned to pro wrestling.

His wrestling career only started in 2021 when he joined All Elite Wrestling, but so far he hasn’t done anything significant.

In the UFC he was a heavyweight champion and to this day he has the longest winning streak in the heavyweight division.

Give this man more time, and we expect big things to come from the new wrestling fighter.

Shayna Baszler

Baszler started off her career as a Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighter. She entered the MMA in 2006 and lost her first fight in a KO third-round display.

It didn’t take her long to find her feet though. In 2013 she teamed up with Ronda Rousey in the Team Rousey vs Team Tate fight. There she won against Colleen Schneider in the first round.

In her MMA career, Baszler was the Bantamweight Champion for Freestyle Cage Fighting, but when she made the switch to professional wrestling, that’s when the real medals started rolling in.

Baszler was the IndyGurlz Australian Champion, the Premier Women’s Champion, the NXT Women’s Champion, and the Absolute Intense Champion. Although Baszler started in MMA, it’s clear her real talent was in pro wrestling.

Josh Barnett

Barnett is the Hollywood movie version of a fighter. His bloody fisted beginning started in school when he would often get into trouble, fighting.

To control his anger, Barnett was encouraged to take up wrestling and judo, which he ended up excelling in.

His school encouraged him to take up classes outside of lessons, but he didn’t have the money. So just like a movie script, he worked as a maintenance janitor in exchange for lessons.

All of this pushed him towards the UFC where he ended up winning the Heavyweight Championship, the Pancrase Open Weight Championship, and the SuperBrawl 13 Heavyweight Tournament. Eventually landing in the Hall of Fame.

On to his next adventure, Barnett became a professional wrestler, starting in the NJPW where he eventually became the IWGP Heavyweight champion.

Summary

All of these amazing fighters dominated in their divisions of MMA. In a sport where you can branch off into so many directions, it has been fantastic to watch them all continue their success in Pro Wrestling too.

The travel packages for the Clash at the Castle UK stadium event in Cardiff went on sale today on Ticketmaster and they are…expensive!

There’s a combo of three, four, or five star hotels along with tickets and meet and greet options available, with the most expensive option being a five star hotel and ringside seats for a whopping £4,500 per person in a double room.

A Superfan Event Day Experience ticket, which includes no accommodation, will cost £700 and consists of a ticket to the show, a pre-show party, merchandise, priority check-in, crowd-free shopping, and a £100 voucher included.

Meet and greet sessions will be held on Friday, September 2.

Pre-sale for tickets will be available on Ticketmaster.co.uk at Noon local time on Wednesday, May 18, while tickets for general public go on sale on Friday, May 20.

WWE will be using the full Principality Stadium for the show, with no seats blocked as there will not be a big stage, with WWE once again opting for a setup similar to SummerSlam and the Royal Rumble.

WWE had almost double the amount of tickets they will have available in pre-registrations so there will be a lot of disappointed people when this one sells out.

The Roast of Ric Flair coming to Starrcast V

Starrcast V will be built around Ric Flair this July as there will also be The Roast of Ric Flair during the weekend, currently set for Friday, July 29.

This event was originally set to take place a few years ago but health issues prevented Flair from appearing and the whole idea was scrapped.

With Nature Boy now preparing to wrestle his final match just two days later, it was the perfect time to bring back the roast.

“The last weekend in July is going to be Ric’s swan song in a professional wrestling ring, so what better way to send him off before his final match than giving him a proper roast,” said Conrad Thompson. “Ric’s career has transcended professional wrestling and made him a pop culture icon. You’ve seen his influence everywhere from sports to hip hop. He’s done it all, except get roasted by some of his dearest friends and the most talented comedians in the world. That all changes on July 29th.”

Considering his storied-career and with countless of opponents and ex-wives, the roast of Ric Flair could be a juicy and explosive one!

More details from the walkout of Sasha Banks and Naomi

PWInsider.com has more exclusive details of what happened last night and what led to the walkout of Sasha Banks and Naomi from Monday Night Raw, altering the main event and direction heading into the Hell In A Cell premium live event.

In an extensive post, Mike Johnson wrote that originally, Naomi was supposed to beat Sasha in the six pack challenge and then she would go on to face Bianca Belair at Hell In A Cell for the Raw Women’s title.

There were also rumors that Banks would also have some kind of a win on Smackdown to face Ronda Rousey, perhaps at Hell In A Cell as well, for the Smackdown Women’s title.

But creative laid out suggested that both Naomi and Banks would be on the losing end of stick in their respective singles matches and the champs thought that would devalue the titles they hold, pretty much destroying everything they’ve been trying to build since before WrestleMania. PWInsider adds that there was no issue with Banks doing the job for Naomi but the problem was what was coming after.

When the duo were told that the plan remains for the Naomi victory and subsequent storylines despite a meeting with Vince McMahon, Banks and Naomi headed over the John Laurinaitis’ office and gave him the Women’s Tag Team titles and simply left the broadcast just as Raw was about to start.

The duo remain employed at the moment and releasing them might not be the best idea. Banks is a major star while Naomi, a very popular wrestler on her own, is also married to Jimmy Uso.

Modern people appreciate convenience, and in terms of betting on sports it is far more comfortable to use a stable and well-designed app. These days, more than 80% of users bet from their mobile phones, so a separate app is not a fad but a necessity.

WWE releases statement over Banks/Naomi incident

WWE logo

WWE released an official statement to address the walk out of Sasha Banks and Naomi from last night, saying that the WWE Women’s Tag Team champions refused to be in the ring with two of their planned four opponents.

The statement says that the champs were “uncomfortable” being in the ring even though they wrestled the other two individuals before with no issues.

The other four were Becky Lynch, Asuka, Doudrop, and Nikki A.S.H.

The full statement is below:

When Sasha Banks and Naomi arrived at the arena this afternoon, they were informed of their participation in the main event of tonight’s Monday Night Raw.

During the broadcast, they walked into WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis office with their suitcases in hand, placed their tag team championship belts on his desk and walked out.

They claimed they weren’t respected enough as tag team champions. And even though they had eight hours to rehearse and construct their match, they claimed they were uncomfortable in the ring with two of their opponents even though they’d had matches with those individuals in the past with no consequence. Monday Night Raw is a scripted live TV show, whose characters are expected to perform the requirements of their contract.

We regret we were unable to deliver, as advertised, tonight’s main event.

Sasha Banks and Naomi walk out of Raw over creative differences

In what could be major news, WWE Women’s Tag Team champions Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of Raw last night after a disagreement over creative.

Both women were scheduled to be part of a six-pack challenge to main event Raw which also had Becky Lynch, Asuka, Doudrop, and Nikki A.S.H.

PWInsider.com reported that the champs took issue with what creative lined up for them and Banks headed to a meeting with Vince McMahon to address their concerns. When Vince McMahon stuck to his guns, Banks left and Naomi followed.

The match was eventually changed to Becky Lynch vs Asuka with the winner becoming the number one contender for the Raw Women’s title, a match which Asuka won.

Their walk-out was addressed during the show after the change of plans as the six-pack challenge was already advertised at the beginning of the show.

NXT In Your House returning on Saturday, June 4

NXT will be returning with another special on Saturday, June 4, this time with In Your House. There is no location announced yet which could mean that the show might move away from the Performance Center and into a regular arena.

WWE will have Hell In A Cell on June 5 from Chicago so technically they could attach In Your House to that weekend in Chicago.

WWE held NXT Stand & Deliver in Dallas this year in front of a crowd of over 3,000 fans, the largest attendance for the brand since the February 2020 NXT Takeover in Portland. It was also the first show outside Full Sail University or the Performance Center since Portland as well.

Last year’s In Your House had a fatal five-way match for the NXT title as a main event with Karrion Kross defending against Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, Johnny Gargano, and Pete Dunne. Two matches have been announced so far for this year’s In Your House, with Pretty Deadly defending the Tag Team titles against The Creed Brothers and Cameron Grimes defending the North American title against Carmelo Hayes.

The event will stream exclusively on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network everywhere else.

“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan battling cancer again for the third time

In a video posted on Instagram, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan revealed that his cancer is back, just months after his prostate removal from last year.

The WWE Hall of Famer underwent prostate surgery last October and then announced that he’s cancer free in December. He will resume cancer treatment tomorrow.

“I am getting my second hormone shot and Tuesday I am being set up for radiation treatment, which will be eight weeks, five days a week.”

Duggan said that doctors are very optimistic that they caught it early and while he admits it was terrifying for him and his family, doctors advised him to live his life normal.

He said that he will be making some shows that he’s booked on but will have to cancel some, depending on the treatment.

This is Duggan’s third bout with cancer. He had kidney cancer 20 years ago and then prostate cancer last year.

Top 10 cricket betting apps for Android 2022

Bookmakers are keeping pace with the times, using modern technology to make it easier for users to place bets. For example, customers of many Asian gambling sites bet on sports not only via personal computers, but also via smartphones and tablets. All reputable and popular betting companies have adapted their official websites for mobile devices, so that tables with matches and odds are conveniently displayed on the screens of gadgets.

In addition, bookmakers are developing mobile cricket betting apps for popular operating systems – Android and iOS. The programmes, which users download to their phones, allow them to bet anywhere and anytime.

When choosing cricket betting apps, consider the reputation of the company, the completeness of the betting line, the variety of events and feedback from active users.

Which bookmaker offers the best bonus

The main reason for offering bonuses is to attract new players. For example, a player sees that he can top up his account with a certain amount and get the same amount. The offer is quite lucrative and he decides to take advantage of it. Modern bettors know how to evaluate bonuses and promotions from different companies and quickly determine which ones are the most profitable.

In order to assess how good a bonus a bookmaker offers, it is necessary to know what kind of bonuses there are. Wagering is also an important component. If you do not know anything about it, a situation may arise where, for example, the user thinks that he will get a certain amount from the company, but in reality he will get nothing. The reason for this is that the user has not read the rules, which relate to the fulfilment of certain conditions.

Each bookmaker offers its own conditions for receiving bonuses. Some require you to make a first deposit and it will already be doubled. Others will simply refund the money if you lose your first bet. However, the best offer for everyone will be different.

Pay attention to the reviews we write on our website. Cricket betting apps like 1xbet or Dafabet are the unspoken leaders in offering bonuses. This is where these bonuses can be objectively considered one of the best in the online betting market in Asia at least.

Be that as it may, to get a good deposit bonus, you have to invest a lot of money. In some cases, it’s 12,000 rupees, in others even more. Whatever the case may be, it’s all relative. And if you can afford to play at high bets and get the appropriate bonuses, go for it!

Why Cricket is so Popular in India

Cricket is not only the most widely played sport in India, it is also an essential component of Indian culture and is played nearly all over the country. It’s a team game in which two teams of 11 face off against each other. A game of cricket usually lasts for one or five days. The Indian Premier League is the most popular sports league in the world. The Indian cricket team has won many championships and world cups. Hence the unprecedented interest in the sport from sports betting enthusiasts. Hence, again, the emergence of so many cricket betting apps. Everything is interconnected and demand, as you know, creates supply.

Payment methods

The sports betting industry in India is developing and growing day by day. There are more than a dozen bookmakers and now, when choosing a company to open an account and make money from betting, there are many factors to consider to ensure the most favourable working conditions.

One of the issues is the cooperation of cricket betting applications with payment systems, which should also be considered at the time of choosing, because not everyone will want to rearrange their activities and switch to a new e-wallet or bank card.

As a rule, large and reputable companies that release separate cricket betting apps cooperate only with the most reliable and popular payment systems, such as:

  • IMPS
  • UPI
  • PayTM
  • Visa
  • Master Card
  • WebMoney

and many others.

McMahons put $4.1 million penthouse up for sale in Stamford

Connecticut-based Newstimes.com is reporting that Vince and Linda McMahon are selling their penthouse in downtown’s Park Tower Stamford for $4.1 million, making it the third-priciest condo or townhouse available in the state.

The McMahons bought the property in October 2009 for the same value. The 3,351 square foot, three-bedroom, four-bath condo is part of the 35-story building, which is the tallest in the city. It was formerly known as Trump Parc Stamford until the name was changed last year.

WWE’s soon-to-be new corporate world headquarters will be just a few blocks away from this location once the company moves to Washington Blvd.

Vince and Linda McMahon currently live in Greenwich.

Four WWE Superstars will be at the upcoming NBC Universal and FOX Upfronts as WWE’s broadcast partners flex their muscles in front of potential advertisers in an important week for the television industry. The story was reported originally by Deadline.com.

Raw Women’s champion Bianca Belair and The Miz are being sent to the NBC Universal event which will be held tomorrow morning at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

Meanwhile, WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns and former Smackdown Women’s champion Charlotte Flair will be in attendance for the FOX event which is tomorrow afternoon held at Skylight on Vesey also in New York.

Deadline adds that NBC Universal shifted WWE programming to its sports division for advertising. FOX already lists WWE as sports and you can bet WWE will try to have some kind of an integration with the Super Bowl as next year FOX gets the broadcast.

Speaking to Deadline, WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon said that the company has an advantage as it can do both sports and entertainment.

“It’s like athletic theater. It’s the story, that’s why you care…You’re swept up in the storylines,” Stephanie said. “We can script the buzzer-beater moments, we can script the Hail Marys. We have a leg up on sports. You may object to what we do, but you’re never going to be bored.”
