Eric Bischoff moves to Stamford, Connecticut for new WWE position

Eric Bischoff started his move to Stamford, Connecticut yesterday with a 1,750 mile journey from Cody, Wyoming, a journey of approximately 28 hours by car.

The former WCW President and now Executive Director of the Smackdown Live brand is moving his family to Stamford for his new corporate job with WWE, a job which he says will occupy 23 hours of his day, seven days a week.

Bischoff is expected to be at next week’s Smackdown Live show where he will officially start to implement his vision for the brand moving forward. Both he and Paul Heyman, his counterpart for the Raw brand, will be reporting directly to WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon.

Eric has called this job the most important position of his wrestling career.

Triple H publicly lays groundwork for Lesnar vs Cormier in WWE

Ever since he left the octagon following his bout with Mark Hunt on 9 July 2016, one of the biggest talking points for mixed martial arts and wrestling fans alike has been about Brock Lesnar’s next move. On 8 June 2019, we finally got the answer that we were looking for: Brock Lesnar accepted a better deal from the WWE to rule out a return to the UFC.

WWE fans had long been craving for Lesnar to make a definite and permanent move back to the organisation due to him holding onto the Universal Championship for so long despite being relatively inactive. Big showcase defences against the likes of Roman Reigns held Lesnar is high esteem, but on 7 April, he lost the WWE Universal strap to Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 35.

The ‘Beast Incarnate’ has since become Mr Money in the Bank, a title taken on 19 May, and appears to be back in the swing of things in the WWE. Something that fight fans will remiss is the fact that his rivalry with Daniel Cormier, which had been cooking for a long time, never came to fruition in the octagon.

Cormier stated that their meet at UFC 226 could have been the foundations for a great event, but he can’t help it if Lesnar wanted to return to leave mixed martial arts and move back to wrestling full-time.

Daniel Cormier is a huge WWE fan and has shown throughout his MMA career that he possesses incredible wrestling fundamentals which could make him a formidable contender in the organisation.

He’s said before that he thinks he may be too old for the WWE, at 40 years old, but executive vice president of talent, live events and creative Triple H has been spotted laying down the groundwork to potentially draw Cormier into the WWE, and maybe get that Lesnar vs Cormier super-fight.

Growing a rivalry in the UFC

For a long time, Lesnar had exchanged in some verbal sparring with Cormier, who stood as the simultaneous two-weight division champion of the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions in the UFC.

At UFC 226, Lesnar entered into the octagon – after Cormier knocked out Stipe Miocic in the first round – to face off with the heavyweight champ, shoving the former Olympian to kick-off the hype, as shown by MMA Fighting.

Lesnar re-entered the USADA testing pool and passed on every occasion, but on 10 June, the UFC president Dana White, as reported by TalkSport, had to announce that the WWE had offered the superstar a better deal, making him retire from the sport.

Cormier has also chimed in on Lesnar’s decision by siding with the 6’3’’ behemoth, but also leaving a few spikes to goad his rival. As recorded on 23 June by TMZ Sports, Cormier stated that he fully understands Lesnar taking the WWE money, especially as the alternative was to fight him in the UFC in which he would try to “kick [his] ass,” concluding that it was “the smart decision.”

The etched summer clash between Lesnar and Cormier has since been rebooked as a colossal rematch between Cormier and Miocic, which, if Cormier wins, could be the perfect sign-off to his MMA career. As of 11 July, Cormier is 4/6 with Betway to beat the 6/5 Miocic on 18 August, so the champion is expected to move to a 22-1 record.

With a 23-1 record, being a former simultaneous two-weight champion, standing as the reigning heavyweight champion, and having defeated many top-class fighters, the 40-year-old could retire as a legend from MMA if he defeats Miocic again. If this does occur, Triple H has already proposed a potential new career for the 5’1’’ Californian.

Triple H opens the door to Cormier

As noted, Daniel Cormier is a big WWE fan, which Triple H already appears to be pandering to by publically opening the door to the UFC heavyweight champion for a switch to pro wrestling.

At the ESPY Awards, which saw Cormier claim the inaugural award for best MMA fighter, according to Sherdog, the cameras caught a meeting between the WWE executive vice president of talent and the UFC champion, which resulted in a short but potentially telling interview with the two massive men.

In the interview, Cormier noted that he was hoping to fight Brock Lesnar in the octagon, but that “these guys [Triple H and the WWE] took him from me.” He added that he might have to follow Lesnar to the WWE to finally get the bout, to which Triple H added: “It’s not too late.”

Triple H had clearly been following the Cormier and Lesnar saga as well as Cormier’s former comments about being too old for the WWE. The master negotiator has put his line out with the right bait and could potentially pull together the huge Lesnar vs Cormier battle that even the UFC couldn’t create.

Court hearing of Bret Hart’s attacker Zachary Madsen postponed again, now set for September

The hearing of Zachary Madsen, the one who attacked Bret Hart at the Hall of Fame ceremony in April of this year, was postponed for the fifth time on Tuesday, with the judge now setting another date for September 9 according to PWInsider.com.

It’s not known why his arraignment keeps getting postponed every time and local coverage has been sparse with no news outlets in Brooklyn following the case.

Madsen is facing two counts of assault in the third degree and criminal trespassing for his actions a few months ago. Madsen attacked Bret Hart from behind on the stage at the ceremony, tackling the former WWE champion and his niece Natalya before a number of WWE Superstars jumped on stage to protect them.

Xavier Woods throws pancakes at Kenny Omega during gaming tournament!

WWE Superstars Jimmy and Jey Uso and Xavier Woods participated in the ESPN EXP Apex Legends eSports Celebrity Pro-Am tournament yesterday in Los Angeles, with Jimmy’s team winning the whole thing.

Uso captained the team of NRG pro player Dizzy and IGN’s Sydnee Goodman to emerge victorious in the tournament, winning $22,000 in the process, all of which will be donated on their behalf toward the V Foundation for Cancer Research.

AEW’s Kenny Omega was also captaining a team and when his team got eliminated, Omega said that this was his first Pro-Am. He said that when he heard the words pro, he thought he was going to see a lot of professionals but then he saw people like Xavier Woods and The Usos instead, adding that they might as well rename the tournament to “amateur hour.”

Woods then got up from his gaming chair and started throwing pancakes at Omega during the live broadcast as the interviewer took cover saying that they’re getting hit by pancakes! Last year, The New Day and The Elite had a showdown at a gaming tournament so it’s not the first time that Woods and Omega crossed paths.

The tournament will air on ESPN on Friday, July 19, at 8PM ET and on ABC on Saturday, July 20, at 3PM ET.

You can see the clip of Omega and Woods below.

WWE to release Q2 2019 earning results on July 25

WWE will be releasing the Q2 2019 financial results on Thursday, July 25 before the opening of the market. A conference call hosted by Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, and Co-Presidents, George A. Barrios and Michelle D. Wilson, will begin at 11AM ET to discuss the results.

For Q1 2019, WWE didn’t have good results. The company had revenues of $182.4 million as compared to $187.7 million in the prior year quarter and an operating income loss of $6.8 million as compared to income of $21.8 million in the prior year quarter. Net Income reflected a loss of $8.4 million as compared to net income of $14.8 million.

Investors did not like the results for last quarter and drove down the stock from $99 to $82 overnight.

Tyson Fury’s explosive USA entrance is paving the way for WWE debut

It’s no secret that Tyson Fury wants to join the WWE at some stage, with the Englishman saying on a few occasions that he would like to try his hand at wrestling. On paper, it looks like a match made in heaven as the self-proclaimed Gypsy King is a promoter’s dream given how entertaining and articulate he is. When you then add on to the fact that he is currently undefeated in his professional boxing career and the man that the world considers the best heavyweight boxer at the moment, it then feels like Fury could saunter into the WWE and name his price.

Up until Fury signed a bumper broadcast deal with ESPN, the road to the WWE looked less clear, with the 30-year-old not yet commanding a captive audience in America. Signing up to fight in the USA was a good first step but fans would still have to take to the lineal heavyweight champion of the world, but then that seemed the easy part as Fury is pure box office and specializes in giving his audience what they want.

A stirring performance against Deontay Wilder at the Staples Center in Los Angeles would have won over many, with the 19 stone Fury getting up off the canvas in the 12th after it looked like the Bronze Bomber had finally landed the knockout haymaker. That type of heart and courage would have brought a lump to the throat of all those watching that night given how far Fury had come after spending three years out the ring.

Despite the result being a draw, the majority of viewers thought Fury had done enough to win but the good news is that there will be a rematch next year with Fury at 8/11 in boxing betting to win and finally put this rivalry to bed. Should he do so, the 30-year-old will become the most valuable asset in the world of boxing and the path to the WWE will look fairly straightforward from there.

Having said that, losing could also speed up his WWE debut given how successful his fight was against Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas. The heavyweight bout was over within two rounds as Fury took the German to school but the real entertainment was the Apollo-Creed ring walk which proved to be a massive hit with the locals.

On the face of it, it’s not hard to see why Fury decided to sign with ESPN given how much exposure he’s getting in America although, at the time of the announcement, it left many of his countrymen confused. His transition has been smooth and promoters Frank Warren and Bob Arum are working the room to perfection as they drum up a huge amount of support for Fury.

At some stage, this has to mean that Fury will eventually step into a WWE ring and when he does, he will be familiar to millions. It will be a win-win situation for both the boxer and the world of wrestling once the Gypsy King does eventually decide to challenge for a new throne.

Around 1,000 tickets remain for AEW’s Fight For The Fallen event

Around 1,000 tickets remain available on Ticketmaster for Saturday’s Fight For The Fallen event from All Elite Wrestling.

The show is being held at the Daily’s Place Amphitheater at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida, the home base of AEW. The facility, which opened in 2017, seats just over 5,000 fans and with this being held in an amphitheater, the setup will be completely different to what we’re used to for a wrestling event. Tickets ranging from $39 to $840 are available on Ticketmaster.

After successful sellouts for Double or Nothing and All Out, AEW did not achieve the same success for Fyter Fest and so far for Fight For The Fallen.

Fight For The Fallen is being presented by its main sponsor Farah & Farah, a law firm which two years ago was fined $9 million by a federal court for unprofessional conduct.

In an unlisted video on WWE’s YouTube account, Bayley is seen cutting a promo urging fans to register to the WWE Verified Fan program to get their first crack at tickets when Ticketmaster has the pre-sale for both shows.

WWE has moved away from holding television tapings at The Garden due to the extra costs and union issues that go along with doing TV there. WWE has also lost their handshake agreement of being the only wrestling company allowed to perform at the world’s most famous arena and ROH/NJPW already held a sold out show there during WrestleMania 35 weekend. Lucha Libre AAA has a show scheduled at MSG the week after WWE holds their tapings.

Bret Hart’s HOF attacker Zachary Madsen back in court in Brooklyn today

Zachary Madsen, the man who attacked Bret “Hit Man” Hart live at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, will be appearing at Kings Criminal Court in Brooklyn, New York today.

There have been several postponements to the case and apart from two appearances in court right after the event, Madsen has not stepped back in court since then. Madsen is facing two counts of assault in the third degree and criminal trespassing. The purpose of probation is to test the criminal’s behaviors and their ability to become active members of the society once again. When an offender is on probation, they are ordered to follow specific conditions that were set forth by the court, often times under the supervision of a probation officer. Common conditions of probation would prohibit the offender from owning or using a firearm, they may have to abide by a curfew, they may have to remain actively employed, and they may be ordered to live at a specific location. They will usually be told to follow any orders made by their probation officer and this may include not leaving the jurisdiction and it can involve not having any contact with their victims (as in a domestic violence case). They may also be prohibited from contacting any co-defendant or known criminals, they may be prohibited from drinking alcoholic beverages, prohibited from committing any further crimes and they may be forced to submit to a series of alcohol/drug tests, participate in drug, alcohol or psychological treatment and perform community service. A defendant may get probation after they have completed a jail sentence, or they may get probation in lieu of serving time in jail. After a probation violation, an arrest can follow shortly afterwards. What happens next will depend on your San Diego criminal defense attorney as well as your history. When deciding how to punish you, the judge will consider if you have any prior probation violations, the nature of the violation, any new criminal activity committed by you, any aggravating or mitigating circumstances and the seriousness of the probation violation.

The 26-year-old grabbed headlines in April after he went after Bret Hart during the live broadcast of the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. The live feed quickly faded to black before it came back online after a few seconds. Drew McIntyre, Big Show, Braun Strowman, Ronda Rousey and her husband Travis Browne, Titus O’Neil, Beth Phoenix, Curtis Axel, TJ Wilson, The New Day, Edge, Drake Maverick, Heath Slater, and many others all jumped in aid of Bret and Natalya as the fan was held down before he was taken out by security.

Madsen told the police during interrogation that he felt it was “the right moment” to go after the two-time WWE Hall of Famer, something that prosecutors brought forward to the judge in court back in April. His lawyer pleaded with the judge not to set bail because his client was “agreeable and cooperative” and it would be hard for him to come up with the money. On the other hand, you may have accidentally violated a restraining order. Probation terms vary from person to person and so do the reasons for probation violations. If you had a perfectly valid reason or excuse for your violation, it will take a skillful attorney to present a convincing argument on your behalf. Otherwise, the judge can find you guilty and send you back to jail.

Dwayne Johnson lands biggest movie ever created for Netflix

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson keeps breaking records as Deadline.com is reporting that Netflix has locked Johnson’s new movie in what is “arguably its biggest commitment to a feature film.”

The movie in question is titled Red Notice, described as a globetrotting action heist thriller. Along with Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds have signed up to be the co-stars. Production will start in 2020 and Rawson Marshall Thurber will be directing the movie.

Universal Pictures were originally going to carry the movie but Thurber’s team reached out to Netflix and in 10 days, the streaming giant committed to everything the filmmakers delivered. Johnson, Gadot, and Reynolds tailored their schedules to accommodate the production of the movie and deliver it on time and a deal with Netflix was finalized over the Independence Day holiday.

From the mega $130 million budget – Netflix’s biggest ever – Johnson is getting paid a whopping $20 million to lead the movie. Deadline reports, “All in all, Netflix has committed to arguably its biggest star-package feature film to date, with a production budget in the $130 million range, this for a project the company believes will deliver a new franchise with global appeal.”
