Triple H hints at 205 Live “merging” with NXT

In an interview with Newsweek to promote NXT’s move to USA Network, Triple H also discussed the future of 205 Live.

205 Live currently tapes immediately following Smackdown Live on Tuesdays but Smackdown is now moving to Friday nights from October 4. The status of 205 Live tapings have not been addressed yet but HHH dropped a few hints during this interview.

Triple H said that 205 Live was always “an island onto itself” and “became lost in this limbo.” He mentioned that we will start seeing more of 205 Live going forward and they’ll be associated more with NXT and the talent there. “For them to begin to compete either open against anyone or in the cruiserweight division, but have that title sit under the NXT brand is more meaningful. It creates more opportunities for more people,” he added.

Filming 205 Live following NXT at Full Sail University will also probably give the show a better look and feel rather than a full-sized arena.

The WWE Hall of Famer said that for the first two weeks on USA Network, WWE will give a glimpse of what NXT is and give people a taste while leaving them wanting more but come October 2, when the first full two-hour show on USA Network starts, “you’re really going to see what NXT is all about.”

GoFundMe campaign launched to help Brian Knobs of the Nasty Boys

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help former WWE Tag Team champion Brian Knobs of the Nasty Boys.

Knobs is suffering from a big infection in his knee and requires total knee replacement. “With little insurance to cover his most basic health needs, Brian is now facing major struggles to cover the minimal everyday costs like rent, food, and a means to get around. He is literally facing a three count,” the campaign reads.

To make matters worse for Knobs, his wife is also suffering from several health issues and depends on her husband’s income from independent shows and conventions to cover for her costs and these are jobs he can’t travel to in the current condition.

The campaign has a $10,000 target and so far over $2,000 has been collected. You can help by going to GoFundMe.com.

King of the Ring 2019 final match set

The King of the Ring 2019 final match will see Baron Corbin, representing Raw, taking on Chad Gable, representing Smackdown, after both men overcame their respective obstacles this week on WWE television.

Corbin defeated Samoa Joe and Ricochet in a triple threat match semi-final which was a first in a KOTR tournament history. Gable had a more tricky evening last night as his original opponent, Elias, was not medically cleared to compete.

Elias suffered an ankle injury and was pulled out of the show. He had gone through Kevin Owens and Ali earlier in the tournament to reach the final but it wasn’t meant to be this time. Instead, Shane McMahon took Elias’ spot against Gable and appointed Kevin Owens as the special guest referee. McMahon tried to bribe Owens telling him that if he helped him win, he would write off the $100,000 fine he gave him a few weeks ago.

But Owens was having none of it and did a fast three-count on McMahon when Gable delivered a German suplex. McMahon ordered the match to be restarted, changing it to a two-out-of-three falls match but Gable made him tap to the ankle lock.

After tapping out, McMahon attacked Owens and fired him.

Raw rating for 09/09/2019

Monday Night Raw got smacked in the ratings this week despite a solid show and an appearance from Stone Cold Steve Austin. This week’s broadcast from MSG drew an average of 2,130,000 viewers, down 377,000 viewers from last week’s show. The night was dominated by the start of Monday Night Football on ESPN with 13 million and 10 million viewers head-to-head with Raw.

Hour one started with 2,362,000 viewers, followed by 2,183,000 viewers in the second hour, and then 1,845,000 viewers in the third hour. Raw dropped 517,000 viewers from hour one to hour three. This was the least-watched Raw since June 10 and the third hour number is the lowest since the December 31, 2018 episode.

Raw was #5, #7, and #8 in the top 50 cable chart among the 18-49 demographic and #11 in overall viewership for the night on cable. (Ratings credit: Showbuzzdaily.com)

WWE and Full Sail University expand partnership

WWE and Full Sail University today announced that they have expanded their partnership, one week before NXT is set to debut live on USA Network.

WWE began using Full Sail University in 2012 and Full Sail Live has hosted the NXT television tapings and several TakeOver specials throughout the years as well as other tournaments such as the Mae Young Classic and Cruiserweight Classic. In addition, the partnership has resulted in hundreds of hours of practical production experience for more than 1,200 students, multiple career networking opportunities for students and grads, and WWE has granted more than $400,000 in scholarships to Full Sail University students, which are applied toward the recipient’s areas of study within the university.

“Full Sail University has been invaluable to the success of NXT,” said Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events & Creative. “The passion we see from their students inspires our entire NXT roster and staff, and we are excited for the brand’s next chapter at Full Sail Live each week.”

“WWE is known the world over for being a leader in the entertainment industry, and as an educational partner to Full Sail University, they have served to inspire the next generation of production professionals that are being taught on our campus daily,” said Full Sail University President, Garry Jones. “With the latest announcement of NXT emanating from Full Sail Live each week and airing on the USA Network, we look forward to the expanded learning opportunities this will provide to our students.”

WWE Co-President George Barrios goes in great details on the future of the WWE Network

In a very detailed and extensive interview with TheVerge.com, WWE Co-President George Barrios discussed the evolution of the WWE Network and the upcoming new tiers and features that will be introduced very soon.

The article details the jump from BAMTech to Endeavor Streaming and why it had to be done, redesigning the new app, the launch of WWE Network 2.0 and many more interesting details.

Barrios also discussed the three tiers that will be coming to the Network: Free, Regular, and Premium. “Our free content lived separately from our premium subscription content. They were kind of in different places,” Barrios said. “What’s coming here soon, in weeks and not months, is the beginning of integration of our free content with our paid content. It’ll be one integrated experience, and what content you can access just depends on what level member you are.”

The Free tier will offer the same free-to-watch videos you’d normally find on WWE.com and YouTube plus WWE will also probably offer timed previews of paid WWE Network content.

The Regular tier will be the current WWE Network experience, combining free content with subscription benefits like live pay-per-views, on-demand streaming, and original programming.

The Premium tier will cater to the “most passionate Network subscribers” with more content, more features, and also integrating some of other non-video services like commerce. “It becomes the one place to experience everything WWE,” Barrios said.

Barrios also shot down the idea of the WWE Network becoming a channel on Apple TV or Prime Video, saying that it becomes a “tradeoff of economics and access to data.”

WWE will also be introducing Download To Go, a new feature for offline downloads, letting subscribers download full-length PPVs, or TV shows.

But there’s one feature that WWE is not implementing anytime soon: 4K. The popular ultra HD picture is something that WWE has tested already, filming live events in 4K format but there’s no timeline on when the company will switch to 4K.

“4K, I think that will be driven more by the penetration of 4K devices and then 4K consumption. It seems like a century ago, but when we moved to HD 10 years ago or so, we waited until about 25 or 30 percent of the big screens in the homes were HD-capable,” Barrios said.

Drew McIntyre undergoes surgery

PWInsider.com is reporting that Drew McIntyre recently underwent surgery which is why he has not been on WWE television over the past couple of weeks.

The surgery is reported to be minor and McIntyre has a chance to be cleared by next week although that is entirely up to the WWE medical team. It’s not known what McIntyre underwent the knife for and details about the whole thing have been kept under wraps.

McIntyre was last seen on Raw when he lost to Ricochet in a King of the Ring match in the first round. McIntyre was the favorite to win the tournament although WWE went a completely different route this time in the tournament, providing quite a few surprise wins – and losses – along the way.

How to find wrestling scholarships for students

Dedicating your time to something else besides the usual partying and Netflix binge-watching is a great feeling. Investing a part of yourself and a part of your precious time into a sporting activity is as satisfying as it is demanding. Starting wrestling from high school helps you make friends, learn about struggle and helps you discover that if you invest in something, that something will give back to you. As beautiful as it sounds (and it is, don’t get me wrong), High school wrestling is over. You are about to find out how college wrestling and the wrestling lifestyle becomes once it can bring you a scholarship. And today this is what I’m going to tell you about.

GETTING THERE

If you loved wrestling in high school and you want to go to a sports program in college, the first thing you have to do is finding colleges with wrestling scholarships. There are many out there, but not all of them are that good. Be careful because you can be the best wrestler in your college’s team but not be able to get a scholarship if the college’s team is a weak one and no one wants to invest there. Pay attention to the wrestling scholarships they offer. Most colleges don’t offer full scholarships for students doing wrestling so the scholarship will be a partial one. As a high school student, the best thing you can do for your image in the eyes of recruiters is to go to tournaments and championships. This is also not that easy. Very few recruiters will go to smaller championships in smaller cities. The problem with bigger tournaments is that they are more expensive than smaller ones. In a bigger competition, your emotions will go crazier than in a local one where your mom and friends came to support you. So in any championship, you should be careful, do your best and be careful with your health.

You also have to keep an eye on the other kids you’re having good fights with. They are your direct competition. They are there for the same reason you are and will do their best to land YOUR scholarship. The second school taxes sky-rocketed, the college wrestling recruiting became much intense. For your training, the best choice would be wrestling camps. You can save a lot of money and time for your training if you go to one of those and spend a full week wrestling!

WHEN YOU’RE THERE

You got into college and you got that kick-ass scholarship you wanted. Good for you! Now we’ll have to fight (see what I just did there?!) to keep you up and running! Once you start going to classes and practice you’ll soon start to realize how valuable your time actually is. For you to be able to keep up your performance in sports and to keep up the grades you’ll need a very carefully prepared schedule. You’ll have to survive between the classes everyone is taking and  to at least 3-4 hours a day of wrestling practice. The mindset you have to start with is that your main focus while you’re there is wrestling. For your performance you’ll have to eat wrestling and to sleep wrestling. Try keeping your classes before practice. Trust me when I say it, after 4 hours of wrestling practice, you don’t want to spend 2 hours listening to a biology course.

The studying should also not be neglected. You went to college for the wrestling program but the actual studying is what’s keeping you there. It’s important to realize what your priority is but also not to neglect your second most important activity. It’s ok not to have straight A’s but you have to put in the occasional study session. If you want to buy a research paper for college project because you ran out of time is acceptable if you were at practice, not at a party. Another thing to keep in mind is that you should pay attention to what you post on social media. Coaches and scholarship supervisors have a habit of checking the social media accounts of their students. They are looking for kids with good character and good habits for scholarships. Don’t embarrass yourself online because you never know who’s going to watch that.

CONCLUSION

Wrestling is not easy. College is not easy. So if you choose to go for a wrestling scholarship you’ll have to show maturity. From the discipline of training in high school to become good enough for a recruiter to notice you to the hype of competitions, you’ll have to know exactly what you’re doing. Getting there is not the hardest part. Keeping that scholarship for all the years you attend college is. Organize your practice and your study sessions, don’t be irresponsible with partying and respect your coaches and your colleagues who are there for the same reasons as you are. This should get you started!

Enes Kanter of the Boston Celtics wins the 24/7 title in Madison Square Garden

Enes Kanter, a huge WWE fan and NBA player for the Boston Celtics, won the 24/7 title last night prior to Monday Night Raw at Madison Square Garden.

Kanter was being interviewed by Charly Caruso in the middle of the ring during the Main Event tapings but R-Truth interrupted. Eventually, Kanter knocked down Truth and pinned him to win the 24/7 title.

As Kanter started to celebrate, he unzipped his jacket to reveal the Boston Celtics jersey to massive boos from the New York crowd. R-Truth followed with a roll-up and pinned him to regain the title.

A bunch of WWE Superstars then ran down the ring to try and get Truth but Truth escaped through the fans. You can see the video below.

Worlds Collide replaces NXT Takeover at Royal Rumble weekend

There will not be a Takeover event during the Royal Rumble weekend as WWE is replacing the show with a Worlds Collide event. Worlds Collide is a tournament where Superstars from NXT, NXT UK, and 205 Live square off with the winner getting a title shot in any of those brands.

With the move to USA Network this month, it looks like there will be a different schedule for Takeover events for the year 2020. Takeover shows have been held with the big four pay-per-views for the past couple of years giving WWE a four-day block of events with Takeover, the pay-per-view, Raw, and Smackdown. It’s most likely that Takeover will still be part of WrestleMania and SummerSlam weekends, WWE’s two biggest events of the year.

WWE confirmed that there will not be a Takeover in Houston after the company published the information for the travel packages for the pay-per-view where it listed Worlds Collide running on the eve of the Rumble at the Toyota Center.

Impact’s parent company Anthem Sports & Entertainment acquires AXS TV

Anthem Sports & Entertainment, the parent company of Impact Wrestling, announced that it has acquired the majority interest in HDNet LLC, which operates and runs the AXS TV and HDNet Movies channels.

The deal will include Anthem taking over in running both channels as well as the AXS TV library of owned programming, including wrestling, MMA and entertainment content. AXS TV airs both New Japan Pro Wrestling and Women of Wrestling.

With the acquisition, it’s more likely that Impact Wrestling will end up airing on AXS TV, moving away from The Pursuit Channel. AXS TV is in more than 50 million homes in the United States, a big difference from The Pursuit Channel.

“We are very excited to add these two successful channels to our portfolio,” Anthem Sports & Entertainment CEO Leonard Asper said. “Anthem was founded with a mission to deliver compelling, targeted content and experiences to passionate fans globally on the platform of their choice. The music, sports and entertainment communities served by these channels are a natural extension and perfect complement to our existing properties. The addition of AXS TV and HDNet Movies will allow for increased content ownership, digital expansion and even more compelling programming for consumers and our distribution partners.”

Mark Cuban and AEG will continue to participate as equity partners, and AEG Global Partnerships, AEG’s advertising and sponsorship sales unit, will continue to support the channels in conjunction with Anthem’s sales team.

“Anthem’s combination of targeted brands, enthusiastic audiences, operational expertise, international footprint and vision makes them an ideal partner to take AXS TV and HDNet Movies to their next levels,” Cuban said. “Given Anthem’s portfolio of premium content and complementary programming networks, we could not ask for a better home, and we are looking forward to the results we will collectively generate for this new partnership.”

Triple H discusses upcoming NXT/AEW competition on TV

Triple H appeared on The Pat McAfee Show to discuss a variety of subjects including the upcoming NXT vs AEW “war” that will start on Wednesday nights on October 2.

Triple H noted that competition is great and this war thing gets brought up a lot. He said if AEW can put up the best show they can, then that’s great and that’s what NXT will do every single week. He noted that WWE had been in discussions with various networks about moving NXT to live television and now was the right time to do it.

“People can say war but I don’t see it that way as competitive in that nature. I just see it as us putting on the best show possible. I think at the end of the day, the winners are the fans and they will chose what they want to watch,” Triple H told McAfee.

He said that Wednesdays has been the home of NXT for the past five years and that’s the day that AEW chose. He added that he’s very confident in the NXT talent and he wouldn’t trade anyone in the world for them at the moment.

Before changing subjects, Triple H had one final comment about the war. “Bring your best. We will. And good luck!”

The Four Horsewomen discuss tonight’s Raw match and what the future holds

It’s a historic night for the Four Horsewomen of wrestling as Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, Bayley, and Becky Lynch will be in the ring together for the first time on Raw in a storyline that involves just the four them.

All four have come a long way from their early NXT days and not only they have stole the show many times down in Orlando, but now, they’re constantly doing on the main roster. For all of them, sharing the ring together tonight in Madison Square Garden is a pretty big moment in their career.

Speaking to ESPN.COM, all four discussed their upcoming match in a loaded show that will go head-to-head with the first episode of Monday Night Football on ESPN as well as what the future holds.

Sasha told ESPN that it’s somewhat crazy to be in that ring will all of her friends that she started with and she hasn’t shared the same ring with all of them in a very long time. Bayley echoed her statement, saying that all four of them will always be tied together somehow and it will be a special night as it’s one of the few times that all have been in the ring together on the main roster.

Becky said she hopes that they will main event more pay-per-views in the future and WrestleMania 35 wasn’t just a one-off while Flair firmly believes that one of these years, a fatal four-way match between all of them will headline WrestleMania.

FOX heavily promoting Smackdown during NFL broadcasts

Smackdown ads were all over the FOX NFL broadcast today as the show gets closer to the major switch on October 4.

WWE champion Kofi Kingston, Raw Women’s champion Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Roman Reigns were used heavily in promotional material on television ads as FOX announcers plugged the blue brand several times.

Reaction online to the barrage of PrintMoz’s sports banners and ads has been mostly positive although a good number of non-wrestling football fans were unaware of it and seemed to be shocked that Smackdown is moving to the main FOX network.

There are rumors that a draft will be held right after the switch that will once again shuffle the Superstars with the “wildcard rule” expected to be canned after the first episode.

The first Smackdown on FOX will be a 20th year anniversary episode which many Legends and Hall of Famers set to appear. The show will be live from the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California.

This is not Bonnar’s first time in Impact Wrestling. He actually teamed up with Moose to wrestle Bobby Lashley and King Mo with American Top Team in a Six Sides of Steel tag team match at Bound For Glory 2017.

Bonnar, who has a 15-9 record in mixed martial arts, is credited along with Forrest Griffin with having one of the most important fights in UFC history as part of The Ultimate Fighter 1 finale back in 2005. In fact, both fighters are now part of the UFC Hall of Fame.

The 42-year-old last fought in 2014 and lost against Tito Ortiz at Bellator 131.
