Podcast Topics: What to Talk About in 2023

2023 is coming, and while casinos like Vulkan Vegas are gearing up with promotions, such as the Vulkan Vegas casino – 50 free spins, podcasters should start preparing their lineup of topics in the coming year.

In line with these, we will provide you with some ideas you should cover in 2023. As early as now, you can write a script or prepare your guest list. In the end, we hope that these ideas can help you grow your podcast channel.

1. US Politics

Donald Trump announced he would run for the presidency in 2024. This, of course, did not come as a shock. However, Trump still has many supporters despite losing the 2020 election.

Recently, he also made an announcement where he and his campaign team are selling NFTs—these are digital cards of himself in many forms. The NFTs sell for $99.

This stunt, apparently, is a ploy to generate funds for this campaign. However, the outlook is not good. Within a matter of a few days, the value of these digital assets plunged by 74%.

US politics is an excellent topic to cover, considering that whatever happens in the US impacts the world.

2. DC Universe

Now that James Gun is the co-chairman and co-CEO of the newly formed DC Studios, it is a good idea to talk about the future of DC films.

Gunn’s decision to remove Henry Cavill as Superman outraged fans all over the world. Apparently, Gunn’s vision does not align with what the previous execs of DC had. As such, Gunn is in the process of rebuilding the DC movie universe from scratch.

As a podcast topic, you can talk about an angle of this story. Is James Gunn right for making this decision, or is he destroying the foundation of DC?

In addition, you can work with experts in the comic book industry, along with representatives of movie review websites or YouTubers who have something to say.

3. Garcia-Davis Fight

One of the most anticipated matches in boxing in 2023 is the fight between Ryan “The Flash” Garcia and Geronta “Tank” Davis.

Ryan Garcia will skip his scheduled fight in January 2023 to give way to fight Tank in mid-year 2023. The fight is highly anticipated because both these boxers are good.

Garcia’s record is 23-0, with 19 wins by knockout. On the other hand, Tank’s record is 27-0, with 25 wins via knockout.

Ryan is one of the fastest hard hitters in boxing right now. However, apart from that, he has many flaws as a boxer—at least, this is what experts say.

On the other hand, Geronta has a huge fan base and has all it takes to win. Geronta is heavily favoured in boxing odds in sports betting.

So, while Ryan is fast, Geronta has a defence, a strong body and head that can take punches, and punching power.

Geronta is currently under the tutelage of Floyd Mayweather, while Garcia left Canelo’s Camp. Canelo Alvarez, himself one of the best boxers active today, said that Garcia is not likely to win against Tank.

4. John Wick Chapter 4

The saga of John Wick is not over. It is an excellent podcast topic, especially if your niche is popular culture or movies. The last John Wick movie graced cinemas in 2019. Until now, people cannot get enough of the man you call to kill then Baba Yaga.

The fourth installment comes in 2023 and will continue where the last movie left off. In the JW3, Keanu Reeves got shot, but his body was not found, telling us that he is alive.

JW4 is set for release on March 24, 2023, so you better hurry up and cover this hype. The premise of the story is this: John Wick finds his way to the high table, and he must face powerful enemies. His goal is freedom. To achieve this, he must make alliances and depend on the help of some friends.

The trailer for JW4 is already out. As such, you can, as early as now, cover this topic. Have a show where you discuss nothing but the trailer. Here, you can present your ideas, have callers who will present their ideas, or invite a guest who is a fan and expert of the John Wick saga.

Summary

Depending on your podcast frequency, it is a good idea to start planning these topics now. If your niche does not cover these topics, we recommend you can at least cover US politics. If not, there are many other ideas out there.

What matters is you prepare the podcast topic list now because you have to take action, especially if you are interviewing people. Lastly, make sure you cover the topic before it happens, and also give coverage once it is happening and once it is over.

Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley early favorites to win Rumble matches

Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley are currently the favorites to win their respective Royal Rumble matches on Saturday, January 28.

Rhodes, who has long been rumored to be winning the match, has 7/10 odds and is followed by none other than The Rock with odds of 6/4. The participation of The Rock in the Rumble has not been confirmed and if it happens, it’s likely to be a surprise. Sami Zayn is 7/4, Seth Rollins is 4/1, and Kevin Owens is 16/1 to round up the top five.

Ripley, who had quite a year with Judgment Day, is 1/1 favorite. Ripley was the last one to be eliminated in last year’s Rumble by the eventual winner Bianca Belair. Becky Lynch is 2/1 in second place and Lynch already won the Rumble in 2019. Charlotte Flair, another former Rumble winner, is 6/1 in third while Bayley is 7/1 and Raquel Rodriguez is 9/1 to finish off the top five.

These are the very early odds and the Rumble is two weeks away. As everybody knows, things in WWE change quite fast and especially with Vince McMahon back in the fold.

Santino Marella signs deal with Impact Wrestling

Santino Marella has signed a deal with Impact Wrestling so his appearance as the new Director of Authority at Hard To Kill is not a short-term angle.

Impact announced the signing yesterday in a message on social media, simply writing, “Santino Marella has signed with Impact Wrestling!”

The former WWE Superstar is familiar with the promotion and last Friday’s appearance was not his first one for the company. He worked for Impact in 2017 and did occasional commentary for them a year later as well.

Marella returned at Hard To Kill as the new boss in town as Scott D’Amore is out after he was attacked by Bully Ray.

Impact applied to trademark the name of Santino Marella last month with the USPTO after WWE let it expire.

ROH Supercard of Honor announced for WrestleMania 39 weekend in LA

The next ROH show has been announced for WrestleMania weekend as Supercard of Honor takes place on Friday, March 31 live from the Galen Center on the campus of University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

ROH’s Supercard of Honor is synonymous with WrestleMania weekend and although Tony Khan originally said that he would evaluate if he wanted to run that weekend moving forward, it seems like the smartest decision was taken to go ahead as per tradition.

“On Friday March 31st wrestling fans from around the world will descend on Los Angeles for one of the most anticipated events of the year,” read the tweet from Ring of Honor announcing the show.

The show will start at 4PM PT, or 7PM ET, and will conflict with the Smackdown and Hall of Fame at the Crypto.com arena which is two miles away.

Tickets go on sale on Friday, January 27 at 10AM PT at ROHTIX.COM starting from $20.

Vince McMahon returns to the office at WWE Headquarters

Vince McMahon staying away from WWE Headquarters didn’t last long as the website RingsideNews.com is reporting that the Executive Chairman has returned and has been at his office all week, a nightmare scenario for those in Connecticut.

McMahon, who bossed his way back into the company after resigning over the hush money scandal, also re-hired his former Chief of Staff, Brad Blum. Blum was removed from his position at the end of 2022 but returned as Executive Vice President, Operations & Chief of Staff where he serves as the strategic adviser to Vince, managing the day-to-day operations at WWE.

According to Ringside News, McMahon has already been making suggestions to different departments and the worst case scenario is McMahon grabbing back his creative control. This past Friday, Triple H advised the troops that he remains in charge of creative, at least for now.

When Vince returned and it was said that he’s only back to advise on the sale, it was believed to be just a matter of time before he starts slowly taking back everything under his control.

Updated list of entrants for the 2023 Royal Rumble matches

The entrants for the Royal Rumble increased by three more after last night’s Smackdown with two men and one women putting throwing their hat in for the match.

Rey Mysterio and Intercontinental champion Gunther have both declared that they will be part of the match, becoming the eighth and ninth Superstars announced. They join Kofi Kingston, Santos Escobar, Ricochet, Austin Theory, Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley, and Baron Corbin.

Former NXT Women’s champion Raquel Rodriguez also announced her intention to join the women’s match and is now in the match along with Liv Morgan, Candice LaRae, and Rhea Ripley.

In total, there are 13 out of 60 Superstars announced for both matches and two weeks to go. The Royal Rumble takes place on Saturday, January 28.

Former NXT UK star Jinny announces retirement

Former NXT UK star Jinny has announced her retirement from professional wrestling.

The 35-year-old, who wrestled professionally for eight years, delivered the news in a post on social media.

“After a long time away due to an injury, I have made the decision to hang up my fashionable boots,” Jinny said. “Thank you for all the memories. I’ll remember that chapter for the rest of my life. Every journey has an end, but in life, every ending is just a new beginning. I’m excited about what’s next.”

Jinny signed with WWE in 2017 and was part of the NXT UK brand. She has not wrestled in over a year. Many of her former colleagues responded to her announcement with many well wishes.

The British star is married to current WWE Intercontinental champion Gunther.

Frankie Kazarian signs deal with Impact Wrestling

Frankie Kazarian has signed a new long-term deal with Impact Wrestling. The announcement was made by Kazarian himself last night at the Hard to Kill pay-per-view.

In his promo, the former AEW World Tag Team champion said that he had to evaluate if he wants to push himself or be with those who he thought were his friends and just remain complacent. Kazarian, who was part of All Elite Wrestling since day one, had asked and was granted a release from AEW according to PWInsider.com and is no longer part of the promotion.

The 45-year-old worked for TNA between 2003 and 2005 and then returned in 2006 until 2014. He is a former five-time X Division champion and three-time Impact Tag Team champion.

CM Punk takes a crack at AEW’s television ratings

CM Punk took a crack at the AEW television ratings at the expense of MJF.

MJF, who recently won two Pro Wrestling Illustrated awards for Most Hated and Feud of the Year, coincidentally the one with Punk, posted a photo on his social media posing with the two plaques.

But the current AEW World champion hilariously put tape over Punk’s name on the plaque to cover him and that was enough to get a response from Punk on Instagram.

“Maybe find some tape for the ratings so nobody sees those either,” Punk fired back as a reply on MJF’s photo. Punk’s funny comment drew over 4,000 likes and nearly 500 replies.

AEW enjoyed some of its best ratings with Punk on the roster and it’s no secret that those ratings have dipped lately.

The former champion is currently out injured and his status with the company remains unknown.

Jeff Jarrett smashes guitar on Cobra Kai Stingray’s head during Rampage

Actor Paul Walter Hauser, who this week won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in Black Bird, got into some trouble on Rampage last night.

Hauser, who also plays the role of Stingray on the hit Netflix series Cobra Kai, is a big wrestling fan and in the latest series of Cobra Kai, he can be heard singing the Jericho theme song Judas.

He was being interviewed in the ring by Renee Paquette when he was first interrupted by Danhausen, and then by Sunjay Dutt, Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh, and Jeff Jarrett.

Hauser ripped on Jeff Jarrett and company before slapping Dutt but things got ugly from there as the heels showed no mercy. Lethal knocked Hauser out with a punch and then Jeff Jarrett smashed a guitar on his head, leaving him laying in the ring. Lethal then took the Golden Globe but before any more damage could be done, Orange Cassidy and Best Friends came out to save the day.

Santino Marella shows up at Hard To Kill as new Director of Authority

Santino Marella returned on television last night at the Hard to Kill pay-per-view and was introduced as the new Director of Authority at Impact Wrestling.

Marella is replacing Scott D’Amore for now on screen following an angle where Bully Ray took out the Impact EVP as part of his storyline.

The former WWE Superstar came out to spoil Moose’s party after he cheated to win the Impact Digital Media title. Marella said he was backstage and saw what he did and restarted the match, allowing enough time for Hendry to recover and pin Moose to retain the title.

Impact trademarked the name Santino Marella last month after WWE let go of the trademark.

His daughter, Bianca, is currently to signed to NXT wrestling under the name of Arianna Grace.

Mickie James’ Last Rodeo ends with the capture of the Impact Knockouts title

Mickie James survived to live another day after she defeated Jordynne Grace to win the Impact Knockouts title in a title vs career match which headlined the Hard To Kill pay-per-view last night.

In an angle similar to that of Ric Flair in WWE, James was wrestling to save her career every single time after she kicked off her Last Rodeo, her march to get back to the top but she had vowed to retire if she lost a match along the way.

Many thought with the match wrapping up the show, it would be the end of the line for James but the in-ring veteran managed to squeeze out a win after getting nearly choked out just minutes before.

The now five-time Impact Knockouts champion celebrated in the ring with her family before the show faded to black. Her husband, Nick Aldis, was not part of the celebration.

Triple H addresses WWE Superstars in meeting before Smackdown

Triple H held a talent meeting last night before Smackdown according to PWInsider.com to address the return of Vince McMahon. The talent were not part of the company-wide meeting held last Friday.

The WWE COO explained what McMahon’s role is at the moment and said that he’s back “only” to lead the efforts in finding a strategic alternative. Levesque said that the company has not been sold and a sale process will take months, if it even happens.

He also tried to calm some nerves down by telling WWE Superstars that Vince’s return does not affect the creative process, at least for now, and he still has the final say over what goes on television as Chief Content Officer.

One would think that with Vince back, it will not be long before he takes over creative back but McMahon is currently busy enough with the sale and TV rights renewals and those are the top priorities right now in the company.

The Usos hold Owens and Solo hits the Samoan Spike and Owens is lying on the announce table. Solo then runs and jumps onto Owens and crushes him through the table.

Darby Allin vs Juice Robinson, TNT Title

Backstory: Juice challenged Darby Wednesday

Another in the long line of wrestlers we – and perhaps the company themselves – might’ve forgotten they’d signed.  Robinson didn’t even get an entrance.  They shouldn’t assume everyone knows who he is; he has to be established first.

Cagey start leading to Allin snatching a headlock which Juice could not get him to relinquish until finally landing a belly to back.  Darby got the knees up on a senton – immediately back to the head lock.

A series of quick arm drags followed until Allin took the nastiest back body drop over the ropes since Shawn at the ‘98 Rumble.  Juice beat him around ringside, dropping him face-first on the steps as the ads arrived.

In the ring as we returned, Robinson was landing snapping jabs until Allin got his feet up to counter an attack in the corner then launched himself through the ropes at Juice.  Back inside once more, Robinson this time landed the senton, thrice, for a two count.

Then came off the top, Darby moved, Juice hauled him atop the shoulders, dropping him via gutbuster but missing with a senton in the corner.  Allin got two with a code red then headed up for a Coffin Drop.

Juice cut him off then hit a lariat off the top with Allin perched on the ropes, following up with a jackhammer for another two.

Then went for an avalanche edition; Allin countered into the Scorpion Death Drop – mid-flight – in a hell of a spot, then hit the Coffin Drop for the win.

Crowd quiet for this, perhaps tired but also perhaps not properly aware of who Robinson is?  Not seen anything special in him personally.  Yet.

Jericho said that ‘in a lot of ways (Juice) won because he had a great showing’.  By all means tell us he ‘won’ because he beat Darby up and dominated the match; not because he had a ‘great showing’.

They talked about Allin going to Japan to wrestle in Muta’s last match.

WINNER: Darby Allin

More Book of Hobbs.  This time he was reading from a literal book.  He broke a phoenix from the flame’s neck and is going to scatter the ashes all over everyone he hurts in AEW.

Didn’t he attack a random dude a few weeks ago?  Is this going anywhere?  Was he being literal and is going after Rey Fenix?

…..

The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn were with Renee.  Caster had a line about ‘blood money’ & ‘selling out’.  This was heavily edited since Caster completely screwed up the first attempt live and had to do a re-take.

They were about to leave a scissor imprint in some ‘cement’…

When the Ass Boys came out to complain that the Acclaimed had stolen their dad.  The champs lulled them then pantsed them and pushed them into the cement.  Wasn’t there a plan to one day main event a ppv with a tag?  This angle might just be the one.

…..

Renee with Swerve and Mogul Affiliates.  Including – I assume – Puff Daddy’s son?  Strickland said they’d be the most violent, gruesome group in AEW and he wasn’t wrestling this week since he’s tired of beating people up.  Still no name for his other backup guy.

Kings of the Black Throne vs Eddie Kingston & Ortiz

Backstory: Malakai’s been sewing dissent among the faces & appealing to Eddie’s dark side

And still we’re deprived of Black’s theme & entrance.  Though at least the HOB finally have a storyline.

Kingston got a huge pop as his music hit and a loud ‘Eddie’ chant as the match began.  Be fighting the crowd if they turn him.

Starting quickly, King & Ortiz hit hard, the latter with a dropkick to the knee then the chest after absorbing stiff chops from Brody.  Tag to an uninterested-looking Kingston who shoved King away and pointed to Black.

Right to a grapple, the pair jostled until Malakai avoided a shot in the corner, hit the ropes but was struck with a chop.  Black avoided the Uriken, Kingston ended up on his ass, Black sat down in his pose, facing Eddie.

Ads.

Brody absolutely crushed Kingston with a senton in the corner, Ortiz broke up the pin as we were shown footage of a ‘stubborn’ Eddie refusing to tag during the break.  Brody ran through him with a lariat, Eddie popped up to hit a half-&-half after an enziguri.  Both down.

Ortiz begged for the tag, Malakai interrupted, Ortiz hit a ddt through the ropes and Eddie hit an exploder for two.  Black came back with a jumping knee, Ortiz again tried to help but ate a knee himself.  Eddie took advantage again to bag two.

Buddy Matthews slid right into the ring with a chair, Julia came in and screamed, all right in front of the ref.  Ortiz, in illegally, also in front of the ref, argued with Eddie, Black hit his kick to win.

Decent action; dogs*** booking.  The House do not always win in that regard.

WINNER: Kings of the Black Throne

Lexi with Jade Cargill & Leila Gray.  Cargill pretended Red Velvet didn’t exist and talked smack about her.  That was about it.

…..

Renee interviewed Paul Walter Hauser & his Golden Globe award.  Speaking of inanimate objects, Jarrett & co. came out to interrupt.  You know how this ended: splinters of balsa wood everywhere.  They also stole his award.  The Best Friends & Orange chased them off.

Hauser made a comment about ‘bypass(ing) Connecticut and head(ing) straight to Jacksonville’ and was very good on the mic.

This felt like a segment absolutely jammed in to get a celeb on the show.  Sonjay Dutt makes me want to murder television.

Anna Jay & Tay Melo vs Ruby Soho & Willow Nightingale, Street Fight

Backstory: Tay broke Ruby’s nose in September, they’ve been feuding since she returned

The faces attacked as the heels were making their entrance.  The four brawled down the ramp.  This main event was so important the announcers spent the first few minutes announcing matches for Dynamite so I missed what was happening in noting those.

Ruby came up bleeding from the head as the ads arrived.

The heels were well on top as we returned, Anna readying the Queenslayer with barbed-wire round her arm.  Soho broke it up with chain assisted punches, Tay hit her with a garbage can lid.  Willow dragged both heels off the top as they setup a superplex on Soho, bringing all three crashing down.

Then flung Anna into the corner.  Melo hit a very tame chair shot.  Then was drilled with a spinebuster by Willow who then got two after yet another senton in the corner.

JR kept calling one of the company’s top heels ‘Chrissy’.

Nightingale setup a dr. bomb, Tay fought her off but ate No Future courtesy of Ruby.  Then setup a table at ringside as Anna was powerbombed off the stage by Willow, completely missing the table below – hope she’s okay.

Tay hit a Gotch-style piledriver on Soho off the apron and through the table at ringside.  Crazy risky.  Before scattering thumbtacks and trying to force a blood-caked Soho face-first into them.

Soho fought her off and nailed her with Destination Unknown into the tacks to bag the win.

Excalibur said that Ruby ‘begrudgingly’ gave Willow respect.  Weren’t they partners who displayed absolutely no problems all match?

This was a wild, bloody brawl and the girls all worked really hard and took a lot of risks.  But these type of matches really aren’t my thing.  Even more so with females involved.  Call me old-fashioned or whatever – a sure way for a sentence to end badly – I don’t like seeing women being beaten and bloodied.

WINNER: Ruby Soho & Willow Nightingale

Overall impressions

An absolute blur of rushing from one thing to the next, no time for anything or anyone to sink in, so nothing felt important or worthwhile.  In short, an overbooked mess.

Shane McMahon paid over $800,000 by WWE in 2022

In the latest WWE Form 8-K filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, there is a sentence related to Shane McMahon, who was said to have been let go from the company following the Royal Rumble.

“In 2022, Shane McMahon was retained as an independent contractor performer by the Company and received an aggregate of approximately $828,000 in connection with such services,” the filing revealed.

Shane, who was part of the Royal Rumble match last year, caused a huge uproar backstage with several changes to the actual Royal Rumble match where he served as an unofficial producer. His changes and clashes backstage forced his father to scrap any future storylines and Shane did not appear anymore on WWE television for the rest of the year, meaning that he got paid nearly a million dollars for his Rumble work that one weekend in January.

Shane was supposed to be part of the Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania premium live events last year but his chaos backstage cost him his place on television.
