Segment #10: Arena Promo

Shane, Stephanie, and Vince make their entrances. Vince gives them props on “doing a fair job” with co-running Raw, but is not thrilled with their personalities. He mocks Steph’s disposition lately, and Stephanie takes umbrage. Vince says that Shane was not supposed to even be at Raw, but it was because of the people that Vince put Shane in charge. Vince was expecting “ruthless aggression,” and asks them to “convince” him that they should be Commissioner of Smackdown!

Stephanie rips her brother for ripping on Vince when he was interviewed by Mick Foley. Vince then asks Shane to do the same; he says that he “represents change” and would be the man to do that. He puts the emphasis on “change,” and asks the fans to vote. Of course, they cheer for Shane, but that does not persuade Vince.

The Boss asks for a “drum roll” and the new Commissioner of Smackdown! Live is ….

Shane McMahon!

Shane-O’Mac is jubilant, but Vince also tells him that Shane will not be in charge of Raw though. He names Stephanie the head of Raw, and then puts the importance of competition in every aspect of the company. “I don’t give a damn if you break the law, as long as you don’t get caught!” He then tells hem to pick General Mangers next week on Raw for their shows, and if they don’t, he is going to! “Let the games begin!”

Vince leaves, and Steph and Shane take more verbal jousts at each other. Steph slaps Shane, and they both glare at each other. Steph leaves the ring, and blows a kiss back to the ring, where Shane is giving thanks to the fans to close the show.

End of Raw.

Until Smackdown!, Be Excellent Wrestling-Online Fans!

Taz and The Rock clear the air over promo segment saga

The Rock sent in a video message to Taz and his fans to play on The Taz Show to clear the air about the whole Hump Day Promos vs Rock The Promo saga.

Before the video played, Taz explained the whole story on what went down and communicated with Brian Gewirtz, former Raw creative head writer and now employee of The Rock, to get through The People’s Champ.

In his video, Rock said that there’s no beef with Taz and said he did not know he had a daily radio show. “But clearly I know now,” he joked, since tons of fans hit him up after the issue blew on Twitter.

The Rock said that whether it’s Rock The Promo or Hump Day Promos, what they do is all about the fans and both have their fan’s best interest. “Taz, I want your show to be super successful and you still owe me dinner you son of a bitch,” The Rock said, recounting a story on how he, Taz, and a bunch of others went to eat and Taz was the only one who didn’t pay.

After the video played, Taz thanked The Rock saying he appreciated reaching out to him and it was very nice to take time to do the video. “Now this thing can go to sleep,” he said.

He suggested that maybe one day, Taz can get his top 3 Hump Day Pormos guys to take on The Rock’s best 3 and do a little tournament.

Eric Bischoff teases fans on Smackdown GM role

It seems that Eric Bischoff is having some fun on Twitter by teasing fans on the upcoming Smackdown General Manager role.

Asked by a fan if he would ever return to play the role, Bischoff replied, “Stay tuned….its @WWE. Anything can happen.”

The former WCW President has not appeared on WWE live television since December 2007 when he made a special appearance for Raw’s 15th Anniversary special. Last year he taped an episodes of Legends with JBL for the WWE Network, a two-hour special that is regarded one of the best interviews on the Network to date. A few weeks ago WWE also released an Eric Bischoff DVD which has some new interviews that Bischoff taped specifically for the release.

Bischoff shocked the wrestling world in 2002 when he was revealed by Vince McMahon as the new General Manager of Monday Night Raw in a surreal segment where Vince hugged Eric on top of the stage, kicking off a WWE career that lasted three years.

WWE stocks go up after $4 billion UFC sale is announced

With the announced sale of the UFC, WWE stocks immediately went up over 2% and are trading at $19.97 a piece at time of this writing.

Earlier this morning, the UFC issued a press release announcing that WME | IMG will be acquiring the organization for a reported $4 billion. The Fertitta brothers bought the UFC in 2001 for just $2 million.

Once the sale is approved, Lorenzo Fertitta will step down from CEO and Chairman of the UFC and he and his brother will retain a minority stake in the company. Dana White, the company’s President and the go-to guy for day-to-day operations, will keep his role and the minority stake as well.

WME | IMG’s strategic investment partners include leading global investment firms Silver Lake and KKR who have a track record of growing strong business enterprises in diverse industries together. Running WME | IMG are Ariel Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell.

Major media outlets picked up the big sale and at one point CNN.COM mistakenly had a front page headline that read “WWE buys UFC for $4B.”

Two matches announced for tomorrow’s Raw

Apart from the Vince McMahon return on tomorrow’s Monday Night Raw, two matches have already been announced. Shane and Stephanie will also be on the show after missing last week’s throw-away 4th of July episode.

The first one is a United States title match with Rusev defending the title against Zack Ryder. The second is a battle royal to determine the number one contender for the Intercontinental title, currently held by The Miz. No number of participants have been announced for this battle royal.

Raw will run head to head against the Home Run Derby which might take a few viewers away from Raw.

Did Taz and The Rock kiss and make up?

Seems like The Rock and Taz have come to some sort of an agreement after a public spat on Twitter last week following the announcement of The Rock’s new YouTube show Rock The Promo.

Taz did not appreciate The Rock “hacking” him since he has done something similar every week on his radio show in a segment titled Hump Day Promos. Taz called out The Rock on Twitter and Rock replied saying he didn’t even know Taz had a radio show. He eventually told him to take the discussion private and promised to call him.

Yesterday on Twitter, Taz wrote that The Rock will be addressing him and his audience with a video that will air on the show tomorrow morning starting at 7AM. The show is broadcast on CBS Radio and is also live via video at TazShow.com. “And don’t edit the part out about you still owing me, Bubba, D-Von & Dreamer dinner,” The Rock joked back.

SummerSlam 2016 commercial airs during UFC 200

A WWE SummerSlam commercial, specifically focused on Lesnar vs Orton, aired during the UFC 200 pay-per-view last night although the video was only for home viewers and never made it to the live audience.

The video was a thank you from the UFC for WWE allowing Brock Lesnar to participate at UFC 200. This deal was never done before and it could be something new going forward if Lesnar decides that he wants to step back in the Octagon while under a WWE contract.

WWE were hesitant to push the fight on their television properties however a few days before the actual event they started pushing it online, even showing the weigh-ins video live on their social media. After Brock won, WWE.COM published a short article as well.

2K also bought a spot during the pay-per-view to promote the WWE 2K17 video game which comes out later in the Fall. Lesnar is the cover Superstar this year so it made sense from their end to push the game.

Lesnar gets massive payday for UFC 200, over 3x than his opponent

Kevin Iole from Yahoo! Sports wrote on Twitter that Brock Lesnar received a total of $2.5 million for his fifteen minute fight last night against Mark Hunt at UFC 200. And that’s just the base salary, not counting any additional bonuses he will get once the PPV buys are confirmed.

That figure is way, way more than what he ever received before in the UFC and you can see why Lesnar was keen in returning, at least for one more fight. Just to compare, his opponent Mark Hunt received $700,000 while the main event players, Meisha Tate and Amanda Nunes got $500,000 and $100,000 respectively. Apart from Daniel Cormier, whose purse was not revealed, Anderson Silva was the third highest paid fighter on the UFC 200 card getting $600,000 for accepting the fight against DC with two days to go.

The figures were part of the paperwork filed by the UFC with the Nevada State Athletic Commission which journalists have access to.

Not a bad sum for six weeks of hard training and fifteen minutes in the Octagon, no?

Brock Lesnar faces the press after UFC 200 fight

Following the UFC 200 event, Brock Lesnar talked to the media alone and was not part of the usual press conference involving everyone on the card. He talked to the press for 10 minutes and then left to “drink a Coors Light…er…Bud Light.”

The first question he was asked was if he wants to do this again, what’s the way forward? Does Vince McMahon has to sign off on it? Brock was pretty blunt in his response. “Brock Lesnar does what Brock Lesnar wants to do,” he said as the journalists chuckled. He said his next target is SummerSlam so his future up until then is clear and then after that “we’ll see what happens” but it’s way too soon to decide if he’s doing this again.

He thanked his team who got him in shape and said he’s been out of this for five years and the plan was to stick to the game plan and that’s why he won. He said his conditioning was good and never felt fatigued by remaining cool, calm, and collected. He feels like he can takedown anyone in the UFC’s heavyweight division.

Asked what was different from previous training camps, he said previous ones were depressed and he’d have to stop for a week due to his illness. He acknowledged his arsenal wasn’t the best and he has work to do, “but don’t we all?”

Brock said he wanted to finish the fight but Mark Hunt “has a coconut head.” He said there’s no bad blood between him and Mark and it was just business and both will feel each other’s shots tomorrow. One of Lesnar’s eye was swollen almost shut after taking one of Mark Hunt’s punches.

“I haven’t had that much fun in a long time,” Lesnar concluded.

MMAFighting.com has the full press conference up which you can see below.

MMA fighters impressed with Brock Lesnar’s return, one issues challenge

Several MMA fighters posted how impressed they were with Lesnar and one heavyweight immediately laid out a challenge to the former champion.

“Congratulations on your victory Brock,” Junior Dos Santos wrote. “CAN I SEE YOU NOW?” he added, a dig at Lesnar’s comment from one of his early UFC fights and a clip that was used in the UFC 200 commercial. Ben Rothwell, another heavyweight wrote, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything….” The comment is probably a dig at Hunt who said that Lesnar was all juiced up and was going to punch his face in. Alexander Gustafsson added, “Hands down, @BrockLesnar is the real deal. Never seen him this good. #surprised.” Meanwhile, Josh Barnett who threw his name in to fight Brock in the first place wrote, “Brock shows good resolve & patience. Wins 29-28 solidly. Needs a lot of work on basic submissions though. Top & double wristlocks everywhere.” Barnett is Jim Ross’ broadcast partner on NJPW TV on AXS.

Brock’s next opponent, Randy Orton, also sent a congratulatory tweet. “Congrats to @BrockLesnar on the #UFC200 win. See you at #SummerSlam. #VipervsBeast”

Brock Lesnar defeats Mark Hunt at UFC 200

Brock Lesnar’s return to the UFC was a successful one as the former WWE and UFC Heavyweight champion managed to defeat Mark Hunt via unanimous decision at UFC 200 in Las Vegas. Brock now has an MMA record of 6-3.

The man known as the beast incarnate often said that diverticulitis prevented him from fighting at 100% and blamed his two previous loses to the disease. A perfectly-fit Lesnar, looking ripped at the weigh-ins on Friday night, dominated rounds one and three while round two was pretty much even. All judges scored the fight 29-27. Lesnar came in with the Enter Sandman song, opting not to use his WWE theme song.

Round one started slow but eventually Lesnar got some takedowns and managed to stay on top of Hunt. Round two was a snooze fest with both fighters standing up and not taking any chances. Round three was different and once Lesnar got the takedown on Hunt, he continued with ground and pound and stayed on top of him until the round was over.

After the fight, a very humble Lesnar thanked the fans for their support and then all those in uniform. He also had a message to America: to stand together. His wife Rena, better known to fans as Sable, then joined him for the celebration.

This was Lesnar’s first win in the UFC since July 2010, where he defeated Shane Carwin. His subsequent fights, against Cain Velasquez in October 2010 and then Alistair Overeem in December 2011, ended in a loss. He announced his retirement from the UFC in his post-fight interview following the loss to Overeem.

Lesnar’s involvement at UFC 200 came in at a complete surprise to both the wrestling and MMA worlds. Lesnar managed to reach an agreement with WWE to let him compete at UFC 200 and the UFC announced his participation in early June via a commercial promoting the event. In a post the next day on WWE.COM, the company said it gave Brock a one-time permission to pursue his desire to return to the Octagon and also announced that he would be part of SummerSlam.

Dana White reveals how Brock deal came about

UFC President Dana White said that they will be promoting WWE on tonight’s UFC 200 broadcast to reciprocate for allowing Brock Lesnar to be part of this huge show.

Speaking to reporters after the weigh-ins, White said that it seems that Vince McMahon has finally “loosened up a bit” about the UFC and noted that WWE was promoting the event on their website and aired the weigh-ins on all WWE social media accounts.

Asked how this deal came about, White said that it was Brock’s team, Vince McMahon, Triple H, and himself who worked it all out. He said that both he and Vince had their ups and downs and called McMahon a “tough character to deal with” and “an animal” but those are two things that he respects about him.

“This deal couldn’t have worked out any better,” he added.

21 new original series proposed for the WWE Network

A Reddit user on the SquardCircle forum uploaded an image of a survey that WWE sent to its Fan Council members asking them to vote on 21 new potential WWE Network original shows.

The shows in alphabetical order are:

50 States, 50 Dates (WWE fan goes on 50 dates on the road); Ask Me Anything Live (live Q&A with WWE Superstars); Everyone Has A Price (looking for WWE memorabilia around the United States); Extreme Eats (food show with Tommy Dreamer and Bubba Ray Dudley); Goldberg’s Garage (Goldberg and his wife restoring cars in their garage); History of WWE (documentary from WWE’s birth to the launch of the Network); Legends House: Attitude (season 2 with Attitude Era stars); Miz & Mrs. (reality show with The Miz and Maryse); Talking SummerSlam (post-PPV discussion show); Tapout Fitness (training show sponsored by Tapout).

The Third Wheel (blind date show joined by a WWE Superstar); Totally NXT (competition series to see who gets in NXT and Total Divas); The Wives of Flair (documentary on Flair and his four ex-wives); WWE All Access (reality show following certain Superstars before a major event); WWE Game Night (similar to the current YouTube WWE show by the same name); WWE Goes Viral (videos submitted by fans); WWE Investigates (mini series about major stories in WWE history); WWE Kids! Odds in favor of Mark Hunt as Lesnar starts as the underdog

As expected, former WWE champion Brock Lesnar is the underdog going into tonight’s fight against Mark Hunt with odds makers putting Hunt as the favorite.

The difference is not a lot though so if you want to bank on Lesnar and he wins, don’t expect to become a millionaire overnight. Most online betting companies have him in the range of 2.30 or 2.50, meaning you bet $10 and get a return of $23-$25. Meanwhile Hunt is floating between 1.57 and 1.61 so a $10 bet would get you $15-$16.

The 42 year old from Auckland, New Zealand has a 12-10-1 MMA record and is coming off two straight wins, defeating Frank Mir and Antonio Silva.

Brock Lesnar steps back into the Octagon tonight at UFC 200

It’s tiiiiiiime! The last time Brock Lesnar stepped into the Octagon for a UFC pay-per-view was December 30, 2011, fighting Alistair Overeem in a fight that did not end too well for the former WWE and UFC Heavyweight champion.

Tonight, it’s sort of redemption. Free from diverticulitis – the problem that kept him from being 100% while in the UFC – the beast incarnate returns to the Octagon to face one of the heavy hitters in the UFC, Mark Hunt.

Lesnar will be trying to improve his mixed martial arts record to 6-3 tonight and will be coming off two straight losses – to Overeem and Cain Velasquez. Before those two losses, Lesnar had a four-fight winning streak which saw him defeating Heath Herring, Randy Couture for the UFC Heavyweight title, Frank Mir, and the then undefeated Shane Carwin.

Only one of Lesnar’s fights went to distance, against Herring in 2008. His losses to Frank Mir, Velasquez, and Overeem were all wrapped up in round one while the rest of his wins came in the second round.

The mayor of Suplex City is expected to be making his way down to the Octagon in his WWE theme song after the WWE gave him permission to use his theme for the pay-per-view.

Depending on the outcome of this fight, it might not be the only time we see Lesnar back in the Octagon and he made no secret about it.

Vince McMahon returning to Raw on Monday

With the ratings taking a dive week after week, Vince McMahon is returning to Raw this coming Monday with WWE.COM teasing that he might be making an executive decision on the running of Smackdown between Shane and Stephanie…or choosing a different GM altogether.

This Raw will be the penultimate one before the brand extension and the draft that will happen on the live Smackdown the following week. So far, Corporate Kane, Teddy Long, John Laurinaitis, and Vickie Guerrero all returned to plead their case to start running Smackdown on Tuesday nights.

Last week’s Raw on the 4th of July drew just 2.65 million viewers and the second time this year that Raw did less than 3 million viewers.

Smackdown rating for 07/07/2016

Smackdown this week drew 2,241,000 viewers, up 161,000 viewers from last week’s 2,080,000 number. The show was beaten by several news broadcasts during the two hours it ran as news networks covered the Dallas shooting. (Ratings credit: Showbuzzdaily.com)

Brock Lesnar makes weight for UFC 200 weighing in at 265.5lbs

Brock Lesnar weighed in at 265.5lbs earlier today for his fight against Mark Hunt and looked absolutely ripped during the public weigh-ins tonight. Usually Lesnar weighs around closer to the 300lbs mark for his WWE matches.

WWE carried the live feed of the weigh-in on WWE.COM and the YouTube channel, continuing the promotion of the match online after Stephanie McMahon said they’re not supporting the fight. WWE made no mention about Lesnar’s fight on television though.

“Mark, they told you to prepare for UFC 200, when you found out your opponent was Brock Lesnar, what did you think?” Joe Rogan asked Hunt. “I thought he was retired,” he replied, getting a laugh from the crowd inside the T-Mobile Arena. “What was your thought process?” Rogan asked again. “Uh, I’m gonna punch his face in,” Hunt replied, pointing the finger at Lesnar.

After welcoming him back to the UFC, Joe Rogan asked Lesnar what does it feel like and how pumped is he for tomorrow night. “I’m excited, excited to be here, I had a good training camp. It’s surreal, it’s cool, it’s cool,” a very calm Lesnar replied.
