German-based gaming reporter Nils Ahrensmeier from TechnikNews revealed that Rey Mysterio will be the cover Superstar of the upcoming WWE 2K22 video game.
This is the first time that the multi-time champion will be featured on the cover of the WWE video game. 2K did not release a game last year following several complaints from the previous release and used the break to fix many flaws and produce an overall better game.
The game is set to be released on Friday, March 11, with an early access for those eager to get their hands on it before set for Tuesday, March 8.
Those who pre-order WWE 2K22 and those who purchase the Deluxe version will receive the Undertaker Immortal Pack, which includes Phantom Mask Undertaker, Lord of Darkness Undertaker, and Boneyard Match Undertaker. An nWo 4-Life edition of the game will also be released.
Roman Reigns officially became the longest-reigning Universal champion, with 504 days and counting, surpassing Brock Lesnar.
Reigns has been champion since Payback in August 2020 when he defeated The Fiend and Braun Strowman in a no holds barred triple threat match, ending The Fiend’s seven-day reign which started the previous week at SummerSlam.
Reigns sits #2 in the overall combined reigns chart, with 567 days so far over two separate title runs. Brock Lesnar is #1 with a total of 686 days as champion over three title reigns.

The eight men’s teams who will participate in the upcoming Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic were revealed by WWE during multiple posts on social media.
The tournament kicks off this coming Tuesday on USA Network and will have Wes Lee and Nash Carter, Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen, Kushida and Ikemen Jiro, Malik Blade and Edris Enofe, Zack Gibson and James Drake, Andre Chase and Bodhi Hayward, Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde, and Julius and Brutus Creed.
The brackets were also put out today, with the left side having MSK vs Jacket Time and Blade and Enofe vs Legado Del Fantasma while the right side has Briggs and Jensen vs The Creed Brothers and Grizzly Young Veterans vs Chase and Hayward.
The winners of this tournament will get a crack at the NXT Tag Team titles currently held by Imperium. MSK won the tournament last year.
This will be the seventh Dusty Tag Team Classic, with WWE holding it every year since 2015 apart from 2017. A women’s tournament will also be held this year. The tournament for the NXT women was introduced last year.
Sasha Banks’ father, Reo Varnado, passed away on Friday. The announcement was made by his brother Ricky on Facebook.
“My heart is hurting badly, my brother Reo Varnado passed away last night @ 10:30pm, I need prayers & comfort to make it through this rough period in my life!!! R I P my brother, I’m going to miss you dearly,” Ricky wrote.
Reo owned the well-known Portland restaurant Reo’s Ribs on Northeast Sandy Boulevard and he was also Snoop Dogg’s uncle.
“Uncle. Reo. U will be missed. Thank u for loving me and the whole world u were a blessing,” Snoop Dogg in a tribute on Instagram.
Banks has not publicly commented on her father passing away at time of this writing.
Former Impact X Division champion Rohit Raju wrestled during the AEW Dark television tapings yesterday at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
Raju, who had his contract run out at the end of last year, wrestled Captain Shawn Dean during the tapings. That was his only appearance on the show and did not feature again during the tapings.
The 41-year-old announced on January 3 that he is now a free agent. The Michigan native, who has been working for Impact since 2017, was part of the Desi Hit Squad until he went solo competing in the X Division. He won the title in August 2020 on the first night of Emergence and lost it a few months later to Manik in December.
More information on the Tammy Sytch arrest was released by TMZ.COM yesterday, which said that the former WWE star threatened to kill her partner with a pair of scissors.
Court documents show that a law enforcement officer witnessed the alleged outburst by Sytch, saying that she raised a pair of scissors in the air towards her partner and threatened to kill him. In the report, the police officer said that Sytch appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The partner, who was described in the report as “intimate partner,” did not suffer any injuries.

GLOW star Alison Brie has been cast to star opposite John Cena in a new action-comedy movie titled Freelance according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The story revolves around an ex-special forces operator, played by Cena, who takes a job providing security for a journalist, played by Brie, who is hoping to salvage her career by interviewing a dictator.
“Things go sideways when a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, and the mismatched duo, along with the dictator, escape to the jungle where they must survive the military chasing them, animals hunting them and each other,” a description by the Hollywood Reporter reads.
Brie was the leading star in GLOW, playing the character of Ruth Wilder who wrestled as Zoya the Destroya in the series.
Production is due to begin later this month in Colombia. Pierre Morel will be directing.
Jon Moxley will be making his return to the ring on January 23 as he defends his GCW championship against Homicide.
The event, titled THE WRLD ON GCW, will be taking place from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York and carried on pay-per-view by FITE.
Mox has not appeared on AEW television since October when he checked himself into an alcohol rehab facility and missed the Full Gear pay-per-view where he was supposed to take on Bryan Danielson in the final of the AEW World Title eliminator tournament.

A new Smackdown ring announcer made her debut last night. Samantha Irvin, who has been doing NXT and 205 Live, has been promoted to the blue brand, a move which is a “dream come true” according to her.
“I’m over the moon, I can’t believe it,” Samantha told Megan Morant backstage before the show. She said everyone has been supportive and made her feel where like she belongs there.
Irvin, real name Samantha Johnson, is a former contestant from the season 10 of America’s Got Talent and reached the semifinals, receiving a standing ovation from judges Heidi Klum and Mel B after performing The Weekend’s Earned It song. She was eliminated from the show after the judges forced a tie and sent the vote to viewers.
The 26-year-old was signed to the company in April of last year.
Four more men were added to the 2022 men’s Royal Rumble match last night on Smackdown, with now the total going up to 14.
Happy Corbin, Kofi Kingston, Madcap Moss, and Sami Zayn were the latest additions to the match, joining AJ Styles, Angelo Dawkins, Austin Theory, Big E, Damian Priest, Dominik Mysterio, Johnny Knoxville, Montez Ford, Rey Mysterio, and Sheamus.
That leaves 16 open spots with two weeks to go for the show.

Former WWE Women’s champion Lita will be appearing on Friday Night Smackdown live tonight from Omaha, Nebraska.
The WWE Hall Of Famer has been announced as one of the participants of the women’s Royal Rumble match. “#Smackdown, it’s been a long time. See you tonight,” tweeted Lita after the WWE announcement. Former WWE champion Bobby Lashley admitted on the After The Bell podcast with Corey Graves that he initially didn’t want to be a part of the Day 1 main event after Lesnar was added to the match and tried to get himself out of it.
Lashley said that with the match turned into a fatal five-way, Lesnar winning the match would essentially mean that Lesnar beat all of them – literally – and he wasn’t interested in that being his first encounter with Brock.

Lashley eventually won the original fatal four-way match the next night on Raw to book his place against Brock at the Royal Rumble.

Impact Knockouts champion Mickie James was a guest on The Ariel Helwani Show today to discuss her surprise inclusion in the Royal Rumble.
Asked point blank how she felt about getting the call, James said, “Shocked, very shocked.” She noted that the company never went out of their way to do something like this, especially when it comes to women’s wrestling.
James said that she still maintained a good relationship with everyone at WWE and they had apologized over and over again regarding the trash bag incident. She said that it’s super cool to be able to do this and hopefully it opens to future possibilities.
“It’s weird place to be sitting in. It’s amazing what can happen in a year,” she quipped.
She said that originally it was John Laurinaitis who called Scott D’Amore to pitch the idea and then D’Amore called her to see what she thought about it. Originally, her appearance at the Rumble was going to be kept as a surprise but they wanted the big announcement and she didn’t know they were going to do it on Friday Night Smackdown on the eve of Hard To Kill.
James said the announcement worked out better at the end of the day because a lot of people thought that she was going to lose the title to Deonna Purrazzo at Hard To Kill the next day but now she gets to show up in St Louis still as the champion.
She said she was grateful that WWE acknowledged her as the Impact Knockouts champion on Smackdown, noting that it’s very rare that they would do something like that.
“It felt amazing. It shows a level of respect and gratitude. It was a cool move from their part and it’s cool to be able to represent Impact,” James told Helwani.
Asked if this is a one-time deal, James skirted the question and instead asked Helwani what if she wins? Then she gets to go to WrestleMania. She hopes that she will be carrying the title coming down the aisle at the Rumble and fans will get to see the “Hardcore Country” Mickie James and not the WWE version of herself.
James also discussed at length the trash bag incident and said that Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and Vince McMahon all called to personally apologize for what happened.
