Hell In A Cell 2022 to be held at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont in June

WWE today announced that the Hell In A Cell premium live event will be held on Sunday, June 5 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.

On Location, the new partners when it comes to offering WWE hospitality packages, has started selling tickets, and add-ons, for this show now starting from $250 per person. Tickets are available at https://onlocationexp.com/wwe/hell-in-a-cell-tickets.

This is the second year in a row that Hell In A Cell will be held in June. Last year the show was in the ThunderDome at the Yuengling Center. The show is typically held in October and was once held in September since it started as its own event in 2009.

Start time and location confirmed for NXT Stand & Deliver in Dallas

The NXT Stand & Deliver event during WrestleMania weekend will be officially held on Saturday, April 2 starting at Noon CT from the American Airlines Center.

It will be a very long day for fans attending both NXT and WrestleMania but NXT is set to end early to allow time for everyone to travel to Arlington for night one of WrestleMania.

“No two WrestleMania weeks are ever alike,” WWE’s Executive Vice President of Special Events John Saboor told The Dallas Morning News. “The opportunity also to present NXT at 12 o’clock on Saturday at the American Airlines Center as a matinee, I think, is unprecedented in it’s own right. What better time to reintroduce NXT outside of the state of Florida than here in Dallas and Arlington?”

Tickets for this show will go on sale on Friday, March 11 at 11AM on Ticketmaster.com. There’s no seating chart released yet for this show but the AAC is set to be scaled down big time to make the arena look smaller to fit just a couple of thousand people.

This will be the first NXT show to be taped outside Florida since NXT Takeover: Portland in February 2020. WWE has been taping NXT at the WWE Performance Center for the majority of the time since the pandemic started.

Vince McMahon opens up in a near 90-minute interview on the Pat McAfee Show

WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon was a guest on the Pat McAfee Show yesterday afternoon and conducted his first live interview in 15 years, an interview which lasted almost 90 minutes.

McMahon, who was fashionably late, entered the studio with no prep and straight from the private jet after he landed in Indianapolis. McMahon made the flight just for this specific interview and should, on its own, tell you how much WWE values Pat McAfee.

Vince was dressed casual and the interview veered from a PG status quick with both Pat and Vince dropping several f-bombs throughout the interview.

WRESTLEMANIA

Vince said that the first WrestleMania remains his favorite moment because he gambled everything to get it done. Asked how did they came up with Stupendous to describe this year’s show, Vince said it took a few minutes to think of an adjective that is not used much and thought Stupendous was a nice word.

WWE NETWORK

Pat McAfee brought up the Network subject and how WWE was ahead of everyone else in this department and now everyone wants in on the streaming game. McMahon said that they originally were going to partner up with Comcast to launch the Network back in 2014 but that would have sacrificed their creative control and limit their ownership so they went all out and launched it by themselves.

WRESTLING VS SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT

McMahon hilariously explained how he didn’t know the World Wildlife Fund existed before and the WWF vs WWF lawsuit was going to be expensive since it was in England. He eventually gave up on that fight and decided to “get the F out.” He said everyone does wrestling and wanted to be different so he started using sports entertainment because at the end of the day that’s what they do. McMahon said that if his late father knew what he was going to turn the WWF into, he probably would have never agreed to sell it to him. He also said that WWE Superstars sounds much cooler than WWE wrestlers so that’s why they use that term to describe their talent.

TALENT RELEASES

Speaking of talent, McMahon said that he has the unfortunate job of cutting people and stressed that it’s nothing personal, but it’s just business. He said that when something doesn’t work for the audience then they have to make way for something else and can’t keep everyone employed. He said that he never shuts the door on anyone and keeps his personal feelings aside when having Superstars return after they’ve been long gone. McMahon jokes that he still has a heart and he’s not as evil as people make him to be. With that said, McMahon noted that if the media thinks he’s an asshole, there’s nothing he can do to change their minds and he’ll accept the criticism that he’s an asshole. He said before WWE went public, he made decisions with his heart, but now he has a responsibility towards stockholders and has to make decisions that are best for business.

COMPETITION

Pat McAfee brought up Impact Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling and mentioned that Tony Khan just bought Ring of Honor. McMahon no sold the comment and didn’t react and said competition is good because he likes confrontation, especially physical ones. He said when he was a kid, he learned that if you live though a beating then you’re a winner. He did note that he’s “just wired differently” and probably not many think the way he does.

WORKING 24/7

McMahon said that he’s always working and doesn’t sleep much. He said he starts working out at around 1 or 2 in the morning and ends at around 3:30AM. He said that this is not work for him because he loves what he does. Asked if he’s a robot and he’s going to live forever, McMahon smiled and said that his mother died at 101, so “that’s the benchmark.” He said that if he gets hit by a bus today or tomorrow or when it’s time to kick, he just wants one second before he dies to say “thank you” for everything he was allowed to do and present to fans.

SAUDI ARABIA

Vince put over the Saudi Arabian fans and said that they are no different than any other fans around the world. He said that they had a presence there for a long time and added that just because Western culture dictates one thing, doesn’t mean it’s the only way and we have to respect every culture. He said that people around the world love Western culture and their form of entertainment so they fit in every corner of the globe.

COVID-19 PANDEMIC

McMahon was determined to never miss one show during the pandemic and did everything in his power for WWE to continue on, even with no fans around. He said it was harder to gage the audience feedback with no live fans and the feedback online is usually “biased” so he doesn’t really listen to them.

ATTITUDE ERA

Vince called the late 90s the Wild West and remembered fondly the times they went crazy during the Attitude Era. He recounted some stories from the time, including the bedpan smash to the head with Austin and Foley and said that’s what live television is for because it’s exciting and while there’s big pressure, there are moments you can’t have when you pre-tape.

ROYAL RUMBLE 2005

McMahon famously tore both his quads at the Royal Rumble when he ran down to navigate a botched finish. After entering the ring, McMahon went right back on his ass and couldn’t walk. “Not too many people can sever both their quad tendons at the same time… that takes talent,” McMahon joked. He said he had to learn how to walk again during several months of rehab and also listed the countless surgeries he had done over the years.

WWE to hold tryouts for college athletes during WrestleMania week

WWE today announced that it will host a multi-day talent tryout, exclusively for current and recently graduated college athletes, as part of WrestleMania Week in Dallas.

The three-day event begins Wednesday, March 30, and will take place in Frisco, Texas, at the Ford Center at The Star, home of the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters and state-of-the-art practice facility. WWE will host more than 50 male and female participants with collegiate athletic backgrounds across football, basketball, track and field, wrestling, volleyball, gymnastics, cheer and dance. Several NFL Draft-eligible college football players are scheduled to participate in the invite-only event.

Athletes will partake in performance evaluations, individual and group promo evaluations, in-ring technical sessions and sit-down interviews as part of the tryout process. Additionally, current college athletes will participate in assessments as WWE continues its search for the next class of its Next In Line program.

ROH video library adds ammo for AEW streaming service

Tony Khan’s announcement of the purchase of Ring of Honor places AEW in a good position now to launch its own streaming service, either a stand alone or else opting to go WWE’s way with teaming up with another major service, such as the WarnerMedia-owned HBO Max.

The deal to purchase ROH also came with the full video library, and in its 20-year history, the independent promotion amassed a few thousand hours in television footage. The video library was the most important and most valuable part of the deal.

Through this transaction, Tony Khan now also owns footage from the early careers of some of the top names in this business, including Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, and many others.

In the press release, Khan said that he would be immediately exploring opportunities to make the ROH video library available to fans.

McMahon offers Pat McAfee a wrestling match on the WrestleMania card

Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show, WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon offered a wrestling spot at WrestleMania to the popular Smackdown color commentator.

“I know you love what we do, and you’re part of the team. You’re you and that’s why it works,” a chilled Vince McMahon told McAfee. “I’d like to offer you an opportunity to wrestle at WrestleMania.”

A hyped up McAfee told McMahon that it would be a “f*cking dream” and he was reading a lot of rumors online that he would be wrestling him on the show.

“We’ll find some worthy opponent for you,” McMahon continued.

“Is this the real deal?” McAfee asked again. “I don’t bullshit, I don’t do that,” McMahon responded. McAfee told Vince that he probably owed him some money as he used to pirate WrestleMania back in the day, watching it on a black box.

McMahon said that he thinks this will work and the rest of McAfee’s staff thought so too. McAfee thanked McMahon for the opportunity and said it would be an honor for him to hit the ring at WrestleMania.

Vince McMahon to induct The Undertaker into the WWE Hall of Fame

WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon broke the news on the Pat McAfee Show that he will be inducting The Undertaker into the WWE Hall of Fame.

“This will be one of the most difficult things I’ve done in my life,” McMahon said. Asked why by McAfee, Vince said, “Because I like the guy.”

McMahon called The Undertaker an “extraordinary human being” and “one of the all time greats” and even got choked up talking about The Undertaker. McAfee pointed out that he got choked up and Vince hilariously denied it, but let it go after McAfee told him they have it on tape.

The Undertaker becomes the only second person in the WWE Hall of Fame to be inducted by the big boss himself, with the first one being Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Cain Velasquez charged with attempted and premeditated murder

Former UFC Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was charged with attempted, premeditated murder, and other related charges and was arraigned yesterday in Department 23 at the Hall of Justice in San Jose.

“The sad tragedy is that Mr. Velasquez chose to take the law into his own hands, endangering the public and everyone in the truck,” District Attorney Jeff Rosen said. “This act of violence also causes more pain and suffering to his family.”

The former WWE star began shooting at the victims at Cochran Road and Butterfield Boulevard in Morgan Hill around 3PM on Monday. According to a press release issued by the Santa Clarita Prosecutor’s Office, Velasquez, driving a Ford truck, engaged in an 11-mile high-speed chase through the busy streets into San Jose, following the victims’ Chevrolet Silverado truck. After he rammed his truck, he fired multiple rounds with his registered .40 handgun. A female passenger in the Silverado called 911 for help.

His intended target was Harry Goularte, a 43-year-old male who is facing felony charges that he molested a child who happened to be a close relative of Velasquez. One of the shots fired hit his step father, who was hospitalized, but expected to survive.

Velasquez could face incarceration if convicted.

UFC fights fans hope to see in 2022

With 2022 in full swing, UFC fans are eagerly anticipating announcements for a number of fights that have been years in the making. After a couple of years of uncertainty with enforced cancellations and postponements, die-hard UFC spectators will be hoping that they will finally see some of the fights they’ve been crying out for. One such fight which has been recently confirmed is the Julianna Peña vs Amanda Nunes rematch. No date has been established yet for this, but the event will be covered by OddsChecker, with many fans taking advantage of their no deposit free bets to back one of the fighters. These fans will hope that other fighters follow suit and sign on for the contests that the fans want to see.

Shevchenko vs Nunes

Amanda Nunes’ defeat to Julianna Peña in December of last year is one of the biggest shocks of recent years since most fans and pundits didn’t think Peña even had the slightest chance of winning before the fight. While Nunes’ defeat by choke submission shocked the sport, she has built up such a strong reputation over her career meaning many look on the loss as a fluke. A mouth-watering rematch has been agreed and Nunes won’t be able to fall back on her reputation if she loses again. Should she come through this test, die-hard fans will resume the call for a trilogy fight with her long time rival Valentina Shevchenko. Nunes has already beaten Shevchenko twice, first at UFC 196 by unanimous decision and then at UFC 215 in a split decision. However, the fact that both fights went the distance means fans are desperate for the trilogy.

McGregor vs Anyone

Conor McGregor is probably the most popular and influential fighter the UFC has ever seen. He has played a huge part in the growth of the sport over the last ten years, making him a fan favourite and huge pay-per-view draw. Many fans believe he has taken his eye off the ball with other interests recently, and it’s hard to dispute this opinion when you consider that he has only fought five times since his 2016 rematch victory over Nate Diaz. Of those five fights, he has only won two, losing to Khabib Numagomedov and Dustin Poirier twice, which has led to many suggesting his time in the sport may be coming to an end. He certainly doesn’t need the money anymore, but fans are still hoping to see him in a few more big fights before he leaves the octagon for good. Hopes are high as he recently stated that he is close to a return, with Dana White talking up his chances of a title fight or a trilogy fight with Nate Diaz, although Diaz has rejected these rumours. The truth is, McGregor could draw a crowd shadow boxing in the cage by himself, so fans are hoping to see him back there at least one more time.

Leon Edwards vs Jorge Masvidal

Originally scheduled for December 2021 as part of UFC 269, the welterweight clash between Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal was cancelled in a controversial fashion. Masvidal pulled out amid a cloud of uncertainty, citing an “undisclosed injury” as the reason for leaving fans disappointed. Criticism of Masvidal increased when it was announced that he would be fighting Colby Colvington, with many fans believing he purposely pulled out of the Edwards bout in order to take a fight with a more prestigious opponent. While this may be enough for Dana White, fans aren’t letting him off the hook and continue to demand the fight with Edwards, so hopefully we’ll see it later this year.

Jon Jones vs Anyone

Like McGregor, Jon Jones is one of the fighters who can genuinely claim to have boosted the profile of UFC. He hasn’t fought since February 2020, when he defeated Dominick Reyes at UFC 247, due to several personal issues. While he isn’t getting any younger, at 34 he still has a big fight or two left in the tank. Tongues have started wagging regarding a huge comeback fight with Francis Ngannou, which would be a noteworthy pay-per-view event.

NXT rating for 03/01/2022

NXT on USA Network this week drew 551,000 viewers, down 61,000 viewers from the prior week. The State of the Union Address and news dominated the both cable and network television so the drop was expected. NXT did a 0.13 in the 18-49, up 0.01 from last week and placed #70 in the top 150 cable chart for the night. (Ratings credit: Showbuzzdaily.com)

Gabe Sapolsky and Cary Silkin comment on ROH sale to Tony Khan

Two names very synonymous with Ring of Honor – Gabe Sapolsky and Cary Silkin – took to social media to react to the news of the sale of ROH to Tony Khan.

Sapolsky co-founded the promotion with RF Video owner Rob Feinstein in 2002 and took over the creative duties for the indie promotion until he left in 2008. After founding EVOLVE Wrestling, Sapolsky moved to WWE as a consultant but was released in January of this year.

“Congrats to Tony Khan on becoming owner of Ring Of Honor. I never dreamed 20 years ago that it would be a part of a prominent promotion on TBS. This is wild,” Sapolsky wrote. “So happy that many more can enjoy the legacy of ROH and it will continue to blaze a path in the world of pro wrestling.”

Cary Silkin, who operated ROH from 2004 until the promotion was sold to Sinclair Broadcast Group in 2011, added, “Congratulations to Tony Khan on his purchase of Ring of Honor Wrestling. At least I know my baby is in good hands. What a long strange trip it’s been as we move forward!”

Silkin was appointed as an ambassador for Ring of Honor during the Sinclair run.

ROH announced late last year that it would pause operations for a few months to think about the way forward and then said it would relaunch under a new format at the Supercard of Honor XV show during WrestleMania weekend in Dallas. All talent under contract were released and the idea was for ROH to operate as a proper indie promotion with no contracts and paying per appearance.

It’s worth nothing that the sale was not to All Elite Wrestling but to Tony Khan who is running it as a separate company and entity from AEW.

WWE exits Russia, shuts down Network and pulls programming

WWE logo

WWE issued a press release today announcing that they have ended their broadcast partnership in Russia effective immediately.

The move eliminates access in Russia to any WWE programming, including the company’s weekly Raw, SmackDown and NXT shows, its on-demand library, and all of its premium live events, including WrestleMania 38.

The company is following the footsteps of many other businesses who are pulling out of the country following the invasion of Ukraine.

Key member in Triple H’s talent team released from WWE

Lisette Pineda, a key member in Triple H’s talent team, was released by the company two years after her hiring.

Pineda held the title of Manager of Global Talent Strategy and Development and worked closely with Triple H and his office. She is the latest member of HHH’s inner circle to be released from the company. Pineda came to WWE from Goldman-Sachs.

Triple H has not returned to work full time after undergoing a procedure following a cardiac event last year. During his time away, his NXT team in Orlando was completely gutted, NXT took a different direction, and his close allies at WWE headquarters were released.

PWInsider.com also adds to the story that her release has sparked a lot of rumors within the company about the condition of Paul Levesque and if he is even returning full time, saying that those who usually kept in touch haven’t spoken to him recently

Tony Khan: “Shane’s not here. There’s no Shane. It’s me!”

Kicking off the show last night on Dynamite, AEW President Tony Khan went right to the chase and announced that he had just purchased Ring of Honor to a big pop from the crowd.

Khan, who rarely appears on the shows, said that he was a big fan of Ring of Honor for a very long time so he was very excited about the news.

“Today I signed a deal. I just became the new owner of Ring of Honor,” Khan said. “Shane’s not here. There’s no Shane, it’s me,” he continued, referring to the night when WWE bought WCW and Shane McMahon showed up to spoil his father’s party.

Tony Khan purchases Ring of Honor from Sinclair Broadcast Group

March 2, 2022 – Moments ago on AEW: Dynamite live on TBS, it was announced that Tony Khan has agreed to acquire the assets of Ring of Honor Wrestling Entertainment, LLC from Sinclair Broadcast Group, including the promotion’s extensive video library dating back to 2002, brand assets, intellectual property, production equipment and more.

Known widely as the independent promotion that birthed some of wrestling’s biggest stars of today, including AEW’s CM Punk and Bryan Danielson, and highlighted dozens of members of the AEW roster, Ring of Honor’s purchase signifies a new chapter in the future of professional wrestling as AEW’s meteoric rise continues to draw the youngest-skewing wrestling audience on television.

“Ring of Honor’s influence on modern professional wrestling is etched permanently in the history books, and this acquisition ensures that its legacy will be kept alive and treated with the utmost respect,” said Tony Khan, CEO of AEW, Chief Football Strategy Officer of the Jacksonville Jaguars and GM/Sporting Director of Fulham F.C. “This deal adds thousands of hours of content to our rapidly growing library and creates new opportunities to expand our footprint on a national and global scale, while having the potential to produce new content under the ROH banner. I will immediately begin exploring opportunities to make ROH’s video library available to fans, who’ll have the opportunity to witness the beginnings of the careers of some of AEW’s biggest stars.”

More than 40 members of the AEW roster have appeared in Ring of Honor during their careers. The promotion launched the careers of numerous AEW superstars, including CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Hangman Page, Dr. Britt Baker and Adam Cole. Additional members of the AEW roster have made their mark in ROH, including the late Brodie Lee, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, ReDragon (Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly), Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent? Beretta), Jay Lethal, Christopher Daniels, Matt Sydal, Mercedes Martinez, Serena Deeb, Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio Sky, Keith Lee, Eddie Kingston, Evil Uno, Stu Grayson, QT Marshall, Danhausen, Lance Archer, Griff Garrison, Thunder Rosa, Wheeler Yuta, Luchasaurus, Orange Cassidy, Ethan Page, Austin Gunn, PAC, Kip Sabian, Jon Moxley, John Silver, Alex Reynolds, Jerry Lynn, BJ Whitmer and Sonjay Dutt.

“Ring of Honor has produced some of the best professional wrestlers over the past 20 years, but more importantly, it created a family. I will be forever grateful to everyone in the ROH family who has worked tirelessly for the past two decades to take ROH to levels previously unimagined,” said Joe Koff, Chief Operating Officer, Ring of Honor Wrestling. “Tony has the utmost appreciation and respect for Ring of Honor, and I’m truly excited to see how he continues the legacy.”

This acquisition will be completed through an entity that is wholly-owned by Tony Khan. Further details about the extent of this acquisition will be announced in the coming weeks.

Motive behind the Cain Velasquez shooting and arrest

The story behind the Cain Velasquez arrest became more clear yesterday after The Mercury News reported that the former UFC Heavyweight champion shot the step father of a man who was charged with molesting a close relative of Velasquez at a day care.

Velasquez opened fire at a car which had Harry Eugene Goularte, the accused, along with his step father and another person. Velasquez hit the step father, who was taken to hospital and is expected to survive as they were non life threatening injuries.

Goularte, 43, was arraigned last week and charged with one felony count of a lewd and lascivious act with a child under the age of 14 and despite objections from the Santa Clara County DA, the judge granted him bail.

The release did not sit well with Velasquez, who was let go from his WWE contract in April 2020, and took the law into his hands by trying to shoot Goularte while in a car outside of a local school.

Goularte lives in the same home that hosts the day care which is run by his mother.

Revolution go-home episode of Dynamite live on TBS tonight

The Revolution go-home episode of Dynamite takes place tonight live on TBS from the Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. While tonight’s episode is built mostly around Tony Khan’s major announcement, three matches have been advertised for the show.

A Casino Tag Team Battle Royale will determine who will be advancing to Revolution to face Jurassic Express and reDRagon in a three-way tag team match for the AEW World Tag Team titles. Also, AEW World champion Adam Page joins John Silver and Alex Reynolds to take on Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly while AEW Women’s champion Britt Baker tag teams with Jamie Hayter to wrestle Thunder Rosa and Mercedes Martinez.

Today’s Dynamite kicks off several days of activities for AEW, with Dark tapings tomorrow at Universal, Rampage live in Orlando, a fan fest and concert on Saturday, and the pay-per-view on Sunday night.
