WrestleMania 38 night one full report

It’s WrestleMania!  The night of the immortals: Savage/Steamboat, Shawn & Razor, Bret & Austin, Shawn & Taker.

Confession time.  The Shield were still together the last time I regularly watched.  And the last show I’m certain I saw was Ronda debuting at the Rumble.  That said, I’m actually looking forward to seeing the product with fresh eyes.

I’ve also got the list ready of words I’m not allowed to use: belt, hospital, fans… 😉

Let’s go.

THE USOS VS SHINSUKE NAKAMURA & RICK BOOGS, SMACKDOWN TAG TITLES

Story going in: Boogs won a title shot on Smackdown a week ago

Crowd Response:  Pretty hyped for the opener, helped by Nakamura’s entrance, which still kicks ass.

Match quality:  Didn’t have a chance to get going.

This one was spoiled early by an injury to Boogs, his knee buckling as he attempted to stack both the champ’s on his shoulders.  Only a few minutes in, Nakamura was double-teamed in the Uso’s corner before being hit with the 1D for the 123.

WINNER: The Usos

DREW MCINTYRE VS HAPPY CORBIN

Story going in: Corbin’s twice stolen McIntyre’s sword

Crowd Response:  They were VERY into one half, I’ll let you guess which

Match quality:  Pretty good.  Drew’s impressive.

So last time I saw Baron Corbin, he was being booed in NXT after the fans had stopped counting the length of his matches because he’s deathly boring with no discernible ability or charisma.  In fact, this match had so little going for it that they resorted to insulting McIntyre’s dead mother on Friday night.

Stay classy WWE.

Another cool entrance.  The two exchanged blows early until McIntyre clotheslined Happy over the top.  Corbin got his revenge, sending Drew out via the ringpost.  Taking advantage, Corbin controlled the pace.  Unfortunately, the crowd couldn’t have cared less.

Up on the apron, Moss distracted Corbin, leading to a spinebuster, a belly to belly and a neckbreaker.  Countering with a deep six, Drew kicked out at 2.5.  After hitting from the top rope, McIntyre set up for the climax but Happy bailed outside where Drew hit him with a plancha.

Ducking each other’s finishes, Cole ruined a possible ending when he insisted ‘it was over’ after Corbin hit End of Days.  Recovering, Drew then immediately hit the Futureshock DDT and the Claymore for the win.

Lastly, McIntyre ‘broke’ the ropes with his sword as a hokey sound effect boomed.

WINNER: Drew McIntyre

LOGAN PAUL & THE MIZ VS THE MYSTERIOS

Story going in: Miz, jealous of Mysterio, drafted in Paul to attack father and son, stealing Rey’s mask in the process

Crowd Response:  They were pretty into this one.

Match quality: Fairly good, particularly considering the inexperience of two of the guys.

A distracted Mysterio was immediately caught in the wrong corner where Paul went to work.  Tagging in, Miz was himself doubled for a one count.  Dominic exploded with dives and flashy moves until Logan clocked him from behind.

An Oklahoma Stampede brought a two count for Paul before more double teaming from he and Miz for another two.  Miz brought the crowd to their feet with a chinlock.

Back in, Paul hit a Blockbuster for yet another two.  Dominic needed a tag as he continued to be isolated in the wrong corner.

Fighting free with a tornado DDT, Rey finally got the tag and exploded with a hurracanrana and a vicious kick to the face for dos.  Paul saved Miz from another pin attempt before a double-team suplex was turned into a roll-up for yet another close count.

Rey set up the 619 but had to settle for a tornado DDT and another close count.  Unleashing the Three Amigos to chants of ‘Eddie’, Miz cheated out and tagged his partner back in.  Heavy boos for Logan.  Which got heavier as he hit Three Amigos of his own and a frog splash and pin which Dominic just broke-up in time.

Chased into a trap, Logan was struck with the double 619 and back-to-back splashes but Miz snuck in for the Skull Krushing Finale on Rey for the win.  This might have been the only thing he did in the match.

But he wasn’t done.  As they celebrated Miz snapped and hit his finish on his own partner.

WINNER: Miz and Logan Paul

Next Stephanie McMahon’s airbrushed smile made its way to the stage for a jargon-filled, insincere Hallmark card of a promo introducing Gable Steveson.

BECKY LYNCH VS BIANCA BELAIR, RAW WOMEN’S TITLE

Story going in: Belair won the Elimination Chamber for a chance to regain her title from the foe who took it last summer

Crowd Response:  Belair was cheered wildly; Becky had a mixed response with more cheers than boos.  They were very into this one.

Match quality:  Excellent.  Lynch controlled early but grew increasingly desperate as she realized she couldn’t win.

If Becky’s a heel now, why the hell does she still have her feel-good, sing-a-long music?  Totally clashed with her Lady Gaga look too.  For her part, Bianca received a marching band leading into her own emergence.  Bianca’s music is incredibly catchy.

Starting hot, Becky responded to a handshake with a punch, making Bianca look pretty stupid, before they traded finish attempts, ending with Becky grabbing an ever-so-close to 3 count after a Manhandle Slam in a repeat of the Summerslam ending.

Frustrated, Lynch attempted a bunch more pin’s to no avail.  Leading to a missed moonsault which Bianca transitioned into a Disarmer.  Slight botch here as they reversed each other into a bunch of cradles for two counts.

Heading outside, Belair was shoved into the ringsteps.  Right on top of her as she came in, Lynch took control with suplexes for another close count.  Lynch again countered a comeback attempt with a diving legdrop as Bianca was draped over the ropes.

Continuing the domination, Becky slapped-on an armbar as the crowd quieted, until Belair hoisted her up onto her shoulders which Lynch countered by pulling both over the ropes to the outside.

Finally mustering offense, Bianca hit a painful looking suplex on the ringside mats before firing away with punches back inside the ring and a gutwrench suplex for two.

Dragging Becky to the corner, Belair went up-top but was cut-off as Lynch attempted a superplex.  Dropping the champion across the ropes, Bianca followed with a 450 from the middle rope which didn’t quite get the job done.

Responding, Becky legitimately smacked Bianca in the face with her heel in attempting a senton from the top.  A series of attempted moves by both followed, all ending in counters or reversals as neither could get the upper hand.

Which continued when Becky tried to choke Bianca with her boot in the corner.  Muscling her up onto her shoulders, Bianca went for the KOD as Lynch clung desperately to the ropes and was flung over the top.  Where the champ tried to remain, knowing she was in trouble and suckering Belair into a Manhandle onto the steps as Bianca squeaked back inside with the count at 9.

Finally, a seemingly half-dead Belair countered another Manhandle, using the ropes to flip backwards before snatching Lynch up into the KOD for the 123.

Which was great since we got Bianca’s music again.  A new favourite.

WINNER: Bianca Belair

SETH ROLLINS VS CODY RHODES

Story going in: Seth has no match going in to the biggest show of the year.  Vince promised him an opponent TBA the night of the show.  Whoever could it be?

Crowd Response: Huge reaction as Cody emerged with his exact AEW entrance.  A little quiet before picking up for the ending sequence.

Match quality:  After 10 mins – slow and a little off.  By the end, very good.

A weird choir preceded Seth’s entrance.  Btw, if you can’t swear, just say nothing rather than ‘freakin’.  Dreadful.

Chants of ‘Cody’ filled the air followed by an anticipatory hush.

Escaping the ‘boos’ of AEW, Rhodes had the crowd behind him as the bell rang.  Starting very slowly, this was very ‘wrestling’, headlocks, lock-ups until finally Cody hit his patented uppercut from his back.

Speeding up, both went for their finish and exchanged suplex attempts which ended with both hurtling over the ropes and landing hard on the outside.

Slowing again, Rhodes controlled the arm on the mat, then got caught by a Rollins’ dropkick as he came off the top.  Which led to Seth targeting Rhodes’ ribs.  Continuing the punishment, Seth audibly shouted ‘welcome back to the big-leagues b****’.

Rollins was then sent crashing over the announce table courtesy of a tope suicida.  Back inside, Cody got a 2 with a cross-body from the top, nearly landing right on his neck as he did.  Retreating to the outside, Rollins powerbombed Cody right into the barricade as Finn Balor winced.  Before grabbing a two-count with a flying-knee, a superkick and a falcon arrow.

Sizing up a Curb Stomp, a series of counters followed before Rollins paid homage to Scott Hall, welcoming Cody back by kicking out of his finish as Cody looked flustered.  This finally woke the crowd-up, at least temporarily.

Rollins then hit a reverse superplex, floating over into Goldust’s Curtain Call (which the announcers missed) for another close two.  Both attempted Pedigrees until Rhodes hit a powerbomb and Cody cutter, drawing another close count.

Finally landing the Pedigree, Seth got another 2 before both crawled to their feet, exchanging strikes until Rollins laid Rhodes out with a discus punch.  Arrogantly turning his back, he allowed Cody to hit back-to-back Cross-Rhodes, Dream punches and a Bionic Elbow before another Cross Rhodes for the crowd-pleasing victory.

If WWE has any sense, Cody will be treated as a star from the moment he sets foot in the door ’til the moment he leaves.  Why?  Because Wardlow, MJF and others will be watching.

WINNER: Cody Rhodes

Our 2022 Hall of Fame inductees were paraded before the crowd, culminating with the Deadman.

We cut back to the announcers, who informed us that Rick Boogs suffered a torn quad/patella injury.

CHARLOTTE FLAIR VS RONDA ROUSEY, SMACKDOWN WOMEN’S TITLE

Story going in: Ronda won the Rumble, Charlotte can’t make Ronda tap, while Ronda’s added to her arsenal of submissions

Crowd Response:  Muted.  Maybe tired, but muted.

Match quality: Messy.  The idea of all the submissions and counters was good but this wasn’t smooth.  Rousey’s semi-regular posturing while she had the upper hand didn’t help her either, as it kept backfiring.

By all accounts – including Becky Lynch’s – things haven’t been going well for Ronda since her return.  And by all accounts – including Becky Lynch’s – this story has been poor.  Tonight was a chance to put all that right.

Ronda clearly borrowed Stephanie’s smile for her entrance.  Unnatural doesn’t do it justice.  Boy does WWE still love Charlotte, who looks rather different than last I saw her.

An intense start full of flurries and takedowns aimed at the leg.  Fighting out to the apron, Flair dropped Ronda painfully across it before fighting off an ankle lock attempt by dragging Rousey through the ropes and flinging her into the ringpost.

Escaping from a dragon sleeper, Rousey drove her knee into Flair’s face for two.  Some awkward exchanges in the corner led to another two count and some judo takeovers.  Which Ronda decided to celebrate by shadowboxing and paid for it, walloped with a spear for another close call.

Another ugly mess-up as Charlotte blew her husband-to-be’s double moonsault.  Maybe they were tired but the crowd was almost silent here.  A judo-throw from the top didn’t do much to wake them, nor did a piper’s pit.  They were roused briefly by an armbar attempt but Charlotte countered and hit a big boot.

An exchange of ankle locks brought them to life somewhat as Rousey stood over a downed Flair, attempting an armlock which Charlotte countered into a sort-of powerbomb.  Both attempted a bunch of submissions, resulting in another ankle lock by Rousey which she lay down into as the tap looked imminent.  Kicks to the face let Charlotte escape as she slapped-on the Figure Eight until Rousey reversed it.

Clambering to the ropes, Flair got the break as Ronda fell to the floor.  Intercepting Charlotte as she scaled the ropes, Rousey judo-flipped her off the apron with a thwack, following up by running in and being sent crashing into the barricade by an exploder from Flair.

Back in the ring, Rousey got a three via a piper’s pit but Charlotte had her leg on the rope.  Natural Selection followed for a very close two count as Flair looked frustrated.  Ronda then tapped Flair out with the Armbar but the ref had been taken out accidentally by Flair.  A quick boot to the face caught Ronda unawares, allowing Charlotte to retain her title.  For many reasons, the finish seemed flat.

WINNER: Charlotte Flair

STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN ON THE K.O. SHOW W/ KEVIN OWENS

Story going in: Owens has been dogging Texas, prompting the return of the Rattlesnake

Crowd Response: OH HELL YEAH!

Match quality: Who cares, it’s Stone Cold Steve Austin!

‘Stone Cold, Stone Cold, Stone Cold…’  Certainly helps make it feel ‘WrestleMania’ when the biggest star in the history of the business shows up.

Owens came out to LOUD boos, proving that the problem in the previous match was not crowd fatigue.  ‘Austin’ chants rang out.

Owens welcomed us to the ‘WrestleMania main event edition’ of his show.  The ‘What’ chants started early as Owens ‘apologised’ for telling the truth about Texas, it’s actually worse than he remembers.

He promised to tell Austin face to face that he sucks and Austin will sit there and take it because if he doesn’t, Owens will give him a stunner…  Mid-sentence, the glass broke.  So did the crowd.

One of the benefits of being bald thirty years ago is that Austin doesn’t look a whole lot different.  Briefly returning backstage, he then flew down to ringside aboard an ATV.  K.O. cut-off Austin’s entrance as the crowd chanted loudly for their local hero, instructing him to ‘take a seat.’

Debating the merits of Texas, this was downright well-behaved at the outset.  ‘I would have moved to Mexico, it’s right there!’  It was then that Owens revealed he’d lied: ‘I’m lookin’ for a fight.’  He then challenged the Rattlesnake to a no holds barred match, listing Austin’s ailments before saying ‘other than that you’re fine.’

And if he wasn’t up for it to ‘get your ass back to your stupid ranch.’

‘If you want Stone Cold Steve Austin to compete against this sack of sh**, gimme a hell yeah!’

Needless to say, the crowd wanted him to compete.  A ref was called, the bell rang.  And nineteen years later, the biggest draw in company history unloaded with ‘piston-like right hands’ before ‘stompin’ a mudhole and walkin’ it dry’.  Calling for a beer, Austin took a quick swig before continuing stomping K.O. into the mat.

Another beer on the outside led to a Stone Cold clothesline before dropping the Canadian face-first onto the barricade.  ‘You still got it!’

Turning the tables, Owens reversed Austin into the buckle before unloading on a downed Rattlesnake.  It didn’t last though, as Stone Cold brought the fight out into the crowd, whereupon Owens countered a suplex onto the exposed floor.

Firing back, the two flung punches before a knee to the gut made it seem Owens was on top.  That was before Austin sent him sprawling from the barricade onto the announce table.  More beers atop a prone Owens, culminating in spitting the cold stuff all over the Canadian.

Deciding to flee, K.O. hopped aboard the ATV, but was taken for a ride, literally, to the top of the ramp where Owens was hit with another suplex, and another suplex.  WHAT!  Flinging his opponent back down to the ring, Stone Cold paused for more refreshments as the announcers pushed his lager, hard.  A Stunner out of nowhere grabbed K.O. a two count as Austin lay prone.

A steel chair shot backfired, leading to a real Stunner, a ‘Stone Cold’ Stunner and the very popular three-count for the native Texan.  Of course, when he finally got to his feet, Owens ate another.

The Rattlesnake then celebrated the only way he knows how, before declaring ‘It’s good to be back in Texas, and that’s the Bottom Line, cause Stone Cold Said So!’ as the crowd joined in.

Finally, Byron Saxton was beckoned into the ring.  He mustn’t have watched as a kid, because much as you might like to, you don’t share a beer with Steve Austin.  Rattlesnakes don’t make good pets.  D.T.A.  All that good stuff.  Naturally, a Stunner followed before Steve’s brother joined the celebrations.  Not gonna lie, was a little disappointed he didn’t get dropped.

WINNER: Stone Cold Steve Austin

This was a very, very good show.  Some excellent action.  Some of the little things like the constant product placements and the announcers’ being forced to use the wrestler’s company-approved nicknames over and over were a little annoying but after hearing a lot of negative about the WWE over the years, this was surprisingly entertaining.

Let’s see what night two can do.

GO OUT OF YOUR WAY TO WATCH…

  • Bianca vs Becky
  • Stone Cold’s return

Thanks for reading.  Enjoy night two.

Cody Rhodes talks coming back to WWE with Variety

Ahead of his sensational return to WWE, Cody Rhodes sat down with Variety to discuss his latest career move, his father, and coming back to prove a point.

Cody admitted that it is a “heavy feeling” coming back but after he accomplished what he wanted in AEW, he felt like he needed to revisit the thing that he was after in the first place.

“Even now, thinking about it is heavy. So yeah, all the feelings — happy, excited, pressure, responsibility, all of it,” Cody said.

He remarked that the Cody coming back is a different person that left six years ago and he told Vince McMahon, Bruce Pritchard, and Nick Khan that he truly believes he is the best in this business and now they’re giving him the opportunity to prove it.

Cody did not want to go into specifics of why he left AEW, saying that he remained silent about that and will keep his word. While money and creative were part of it, he said that there were a lot of theories which were incorrect. He praised The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and Tony Khan but said that it was time for him to move on.

“I get an opportunity at my dream, I get another chance at it. And you really can’t leave any stone unturned with that,” Cody explained.

Rhodes also revealed that A&E are working on a biography for his father Dusty as part of the new deal with WWE and he is heading it up as an executive producer, being fully involved with the production.

Cody Rhodes returns to WWE at WrestleMania 38

What was unthinkable three years ago happened tonight at WrestleMania as former AEW TNT champion and AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes made his return to WWE as Seth Rollins’ mystery opponent.

His introduction ended a month and a half of speculation after Cody severed his relationship with AEW on February 15. His wife Brandi also left with him.

The American Nightmare got the same presentation from his AEW days, with the same intro, same theme song, and same gear and was given a hero’s welcome by the thousands of WWE fans in attendance, delivering one of the biggest pop of the night upon his reveal.

Cody won a long, hard-fought match after delivering the Cross Rhodes three times. After the match, Cody dropped on his knees and kissed the mat in the middle of the ring.

This was his first match in WWE in six years.

Rick Boogs injured in WrestleMania opening match

Rick Boogs did not have the best experience in his first WrestleMania as he got legitimately injured in the opening match of the night.

Boogs went to hoist both members of The Usos on his back in a fireman’s carry and his knee buckled under the weight.

The referee threw the “X” hand sign to alert those backstage about the injury. Boogs was helped by ringside physicians as the match continued.

The Usos eventually got the win to retain the Smackdown Tag Team titles and Boogs was helped to the back off camera.

Later in the broadcast it was announced that Boogs tore his quadricep patella and will require surgery.

WrestleMania 38 Night One PPV Pick’em report

Hey everybody! It’s @TheMagnumDA here with your NIGHT ONE PPV Pick’em report for WrestleMania 38! This is easily the best time of the year – the time where the best matches and celebrity appearances come together for the biggest night in professional wrestling. Over the next two nights, four prestigious contenders (WO’s Colin Vassallo, Heel Turn Tom, Brother Bull, and The Renegade) will challenge yours truly for the WOPC Championship. It’s been a wild year with the WOPC Championship, and we have finally decided to settle it all on the biggest stage: WRESTLEMANIA!!!

With that, ON WITH THE PICKS for Night One!!!

Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio vs. The Miz and Logan Paul
Bonus Question #1: Who scores the winning pinfall?

Heel Turn Tom: Towards the end of the match, The Miz and Paul will argue and Logan will throw a punch or something on the Miz to lead to the Mysterios winning the match with Dominik pinning The Miz.

Brother Bull: Gotta think Miz/Paul here…hopefully Zombies show up and eat The Miz. Logan Paul gets the fall after a miscommunication between Mysterios.

Colin: I understand why they brought in Logan Paul. The dude has a huge following, but wrestling fans give him the X-Pac heat. I’m sure he’s gonna hold up his own in this match and might surprise a few people. Last year he was on the receiving end of a Stunner, and this year he will get a 619 to the face. Mysterios win with Rey getting the decisive pin.

Renegade: I’ll take the team of Paul and Miz, with Logan Paul getting the deciding fall.

Magnum: I actually think this is one of the harder matches to pick – I want to believe that the celebrity appearance usually leads to a win. That said, Logan’s been waiting to turn on The Miz for some time. Give me The Mysterios to win, with Dominik getting a huge pin on The Miz.

Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin (with Madcap Moss)

Heel Turn Tom: It will be sad Corbin after a Claymore kick and three-count for the McIntyre win.

Brother Bull: Drew McIntyre in hopefully a squash!

Colin: Yawn. Drew goes from a WWE Championship match against Bobby Lashley at last year’s WrestleMania to a match against Happy Corbin. Good God. I can’t wait for this to be over and nothing against Corbin personally, but Drew should be in a better position. Anyway, rant over. Drew wins.

Renegade: I’m going to have to take Drew McIntyre here for the win.

Magnum: Let me first take a moment to congratulate the madcrapper himself, Madcap Moss on winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. I’m telling you, Vince loves that guy. As for Corbin? This is the beginning of the end of his happy times. Drew’s going to destroy him.

The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso) (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Rick Boogs
Bonus Question #2: Who scores the winning pinfall?

Heel Turn Tom: With the Bloodline storyline still going on, I don’t see how you could take the titles of The Usos. Jey Uso will hit the splash to get the three count and win on Boogs.

Brother Bull: Shinsuke and Boogs become new champs, Nakamura with the pin.

Colin: I’m waiting for Nakamura to get another singles push. Hell, send him to NXT if need be, but just like Drew, he deserves better. The Usos as part of The Bloodline have been excellent. I’m picking the champs The Usos to retain the titles with Jimmy getting the pin on Boooogs.

Renegade: The Usos are retaining, with Jimmy Uso getting the winning fall.

Magnum: You know, this match was put together on short notice…and it feels like The Usos could afford to lose the titles and still be part of The Bloodline. Maybe this could be the first crack at their armor? Nah. Not tonight. I’ll take The Usos, with Jey Uso getting the winning fall.

The New Day (Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston) vs. Sheamus and Ridge Holland (with Butch)

Heel Turn Tom: I hate the rename of Pete Dunne to Butch. But Butch will interfere to help Sheamus and Ridge Holland the win.

Brother Bull: Sheamus and Ridge find a way to win, prob with Butch’s assistance.

Colin: Another meh of a match. At least do a six-man tag and bring someone else with The New Day and include (poor) Butch in the mix. Not excited about this one to be honest, but I pick Sheamus and Holland for the victory.

Renegade: Sheamus and Ridge will find a way to get the win in this tag match.

Magnum: I’m actually going to roll with The New Day here – there’s something about Big E’s injury that makes me believe that Kofi and Xavier will have an emotional boost.

WWE Raw Women’s Championship
Becky Lynch (c) vs. Bianca Belair

Heel Turn Tom: I feel like WWE will want Becky on Smackdown soon for a feud with Ronda, so I am going with Bianca for the win and new Raw Women’s Champ.

Brother Bull: Becky Lynch…avenges her drive by haircut, and continues in GOD mode.

Colin: Belair still has to get revenge on that 26-second loss. By the way, I still hate they did that. But Big Time Becks has been incredible since her return and being heel just really suits her. Belair is in an incredible position to walk out of WrestleMania with the title twice in a row and I think she will do just that. #ANDNEW, Belair wins.

Renegade: Big Time Becks is retaining – bank on it.

Magnum: I want to believe that Becky is going to have a long title reign, but Bianca has to get that victory back from Summerslam. I’ll take Belair to win the title back.

Seth “Freakin” Rollins vs. ???

Heel Turn Tom: This better be Cody Rhodes in the match. Hopefully Vince has talked to Jim Cornette and has Cody come out of a surprise box because he would be over if he did. Cody or whoever the question mark is will win the match.

Brother Bull: ???, whomever they will be will beat Rollins.

Colin: Can you imagine if it’s anyone else but Cody? The fans will absolutely shit on it. Maybe it’s Shane McMahon after all LOL! No, seriously, WWE never shot down the Cody rumor and did zero effort to move away from those rumors so if this isn’t Cody, all hell is gonna break lose. If it’s Cody, I can’t see him jobbing in his first match…or will he? Nah, if ??? is Cody, then Cody wins. If ??? is Shane (seriously), then Seth wins.

Renegade: I have no idea who the mystery opponent is, but I’ll take them to win it.

Magnum: I’ve heard Cody, I’ve heard The Undertaker, and I’ve heard everything in between, including…ugh…Shane McMahon. Seth wanted his moment? He’s going to get it. I’ll take the Mystery Opponent.

WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship
Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Ronda Rousey

Bonus Question #3: YES or NO – Will this match end in a Submission? If an opponent is knocked out (like Steve Austin at Mania 13), it will not count as a Submission!

Heel Turn Tom: I see Ronda winning this and if she doesn’t why did you bring her back? If Ronda is in prime in-ring condition, this will be match of the night. Ronda will make Charlotte tap out to become the new Smackdown Women’s Championship.

Brother Bull: Ronda wins…expect a long layoff from Charlotte and Charlotte will not tap – she will be KO’d. She will pass out.

Colin: Are you ready for Ronda Rousey to be the champion? There’s no way I see this going any other way. Ronda didn’t bust her ass to get in shape in a few months, win the Rumble, and then lose to Flair. No way. I will buy everyone in AT&T Stadium a drink if that happens. WAIT, no, don’t print that! Definitely expecting Ronda Rousey to win and Charlotte will tap out like a bitch!

Renegade: Ronda’s winning the title, and she will make Charlotte tap out.

Magnum: I’ve gotta believe that this is all leading to Ronda winning the title back. Will she make Charlotte tap out? That’s the part I find interesting…what if Ronda keeps trying to put Flair in a submission, but Charlotte rolls her up for a quick pin? There’s a million ways to go here. I have to believe they’re rolling with Ronda here, and she will make Charlotte tap out.

The KO Show – Kevin Owens vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin
Bonus Question #4: Will KO hit Steve Austin with his own Stunner at some point during their Street Fight?

Heel Turn Tom: If the fight does happen, KO will hit Austin with a Stunner that he will either shake off or no-sell and then Austin will hit his own Stunner to prove his is still the master of the Stunner.

Brother Bull: Yes, KO will give a stunner to SCSA!

Colin: Dude, bring Austin to Dallas and get him on the receiving end of a Stunner? That would be the ultimate heel move. And I don’t think Austin would do that unless he really, really, really, really, really, really likes Kevin Owens a lot. If this is NOT an official match, it makes no sense for that to happen. So me says no.

Renegade: I don’t think that’s happening – KO will not hit the Stunner during this encounter.

Magnum: I think he will try – I think there will be a moment where he goes for it. I am sure Austin would be willing to take one, and don’t get me wrong…there will be a point where KO has the best of Austin. Since KO is limited in what he can hit (no power bombs, no piledrivers, likely no chairshots to the neck or back), so having the Stunner in his arsenal is a must. You know, I’m going to say he will – I don’t think he’ll hit the LAST Stunner, but I would not be surprised if he hit the first.

Alright wrestling fans, that’s going to do it for Night One of WrestleMania 38!! Be sure to join us tomorrow for an update on our scores, as well as our picks for Night Two!! See you tomorrow night!! @TheMagnumDA signing off.

After originally saying he would not run another show during WrestleMania weekend, Tony Khan is rethinking the idea for Ring of Honor, citing the history of the promotion running the weekend every year.

Speaking to the media after the Supercard of Honor, Khan said he’s undecided if to do it again but then again he might do it and then run out of the city that same night, adding that he couldn’t wait to get out of Dallas for obvious reasons.

Khan joked – or did he not? – that if he runs another Ring of Honor show next year in Los Angeles, he might get “counter-programmed” by WWE.

Khan ran a successful Supercard of Honor show last night and said that ticket sales boomed after he announced that be bought the company early last month. He thinks that this PPV was probably the most-watched in ROH history judging from the online sales. He said he wanted to do the show to honor the commitment ROH did with the fans and pay-per-view distributors.

Taya Valkyrie returns to Impact Wrestling

Former Impact Knockouts champion Taya Valkyrie returned to Impact Wrestling last night and confronted Deonna Purrazzo after her match.

Valkyrie, who last year was released from WWE where she wrestled as Frankie Monet in NXT, then challenged Purrazzo for the AAA Reina de Reinas title at the upcoming Rebellion pay-per-view later this month.

The 38-year-old wrestled for Impact Wrestling between 2017 and 2021 and was the longest-reigning Knockouts champion, holding the title for a total of 377 days. She was written out of Impact TV after she was revealed as the person who shot John E. Bravo.

Full betting odds for NXT Stand & Deliver

NXT kicks off a very busy Saturday for WWE with Stand & Deliver airing on Peacock on WWE Network starting at 1PM ET.

This morning we’ll take a look at the full betting odds for the whole card. Remember, bet responsibly if you’re using real money and these odds can change. You can also play no deposit free spins canada while waiting for the show!

Will we see a new NXT champion tonight? Odds certainly hint at that. Bron Breakker is currently the heavy favorite at 1/20 to regain the NXT title while Dolph Ziggler is at 7/1 to retain the gold.

A simple one-on-one match for the NXT Women’s title turned into a fatal four-way match but that didn’t dent the odds of Mandy Rose retaining her title. The leader of the Toxic Attraction remains favorite with odds of 19/20 while Cora Jade is at 11/4, Io Shirai is at 3/1, and Kay Lee Ray is at 7/2.

The NXT North American title will be decided in a five-man ladder match. Current champion Carmelo Hayes and Cameron Grimes have the same odds of 11/10 of winning this match and are favorites while the rest – Grayson Waller, Santos Escobar, and Solo Sikoa – have odds of 5/1, 7/1, and 10/1 respectively.

The NXT Tag Team titles will be defended in a triple threat match and the current champs, Imperium, are not looking favorites. The Creed Brothers currently have odds of 13/25 and favorites to win while Imperium are at 9/4 to retain and MSK at 18/5 for their second run.

Tommaso Ciampa wrestles his final match for NXT today against Tony D’Angelo and Ciampa is favorite at 11/20 while the rookie D’Angelo is 5/4 for the upset.

It looks like LA Knight has zero chance of beating Gunther, or so the bookmakers think so. The former NXT UK champion has odds of 1/20 to win while LA Knight is 7/1.

Special guests for The Bump at WrestleMania 38 weekend

Two special episodes of The Bump will be held this weekend, one for each night of WrestleMania.

Anchored by the one and only Kayla Braxton, the Saturday show will welcome the Smackdown Tag Team champions The Usos, The Miz, Logan Paul, and Josh Richards from Tik-Tok.

The WrestleMania Sunday episode of The Bump will have AJ Styles, Sasha Banks, and Naomi currently advertised but of course, others could be added as well.

The Bump airs on the free version of Peacock, WWE Network, and all of WWE’s social media properties.

Charlotte Flair and Andrade getting married in the Summer

Charlotte Flair revealed in an interview with Ariel Helwani on BT Sport that she and her fiancé Andrade El Idolo will be getting married in the Summer.

Flair said that she already has the dress chosen and the pair will be getting married in Mexico. Asked if she would be missing any WWE TV due to the wedding, Flair said that it’s up in the air right now.

During the same interview, Flair also got emotional while speaking about Andrade and her father Ric, saying she lost her two best friends on the road. Charlotte needed a couple of seconds to recover as she talked how seeing other couples backstage affected her but she knows that Manny (Andrade) is happy where he is so she’s happy for him.

The two split for a few last year but then reconnected. They started going out together in February 2019 and got engaged a year later.

ICYMI: Highlights from the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2022

In case you missed it, The Undertaker, Vader, Sharmell, Shad Gaspard, and The Steiner Brothers were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2022 last night in a ceremony held right after Smackdown at the American Airlines Center.

Below are some of the highlights from the show courtesy of the WWE YouTube account. The full ceremony is available to stream on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network everywhere else.

The Undertaker tells fans “Never say never” at the Hall of Fame

Ending his Hall of Fame speech last night, The Undertaker dropped a huge bombshell that got a massive pop from the crowd.

After putting on his jacket and hat to cap off his masterclass speech, The Undertaker looked around, took in the moment, and said, “Never say never.”

Taker headlined the Hall of Fame last night and was inducted by WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon. Fans inside the American Airlines Center gave The Undertaker one of the longest ovations ever, reducing him to tears in a very emotional moment. He lifted up the curtain on the man behind the gimmick and delivered an hour-long speech.

Taker’s last match came at WrestleMania 36 against AJ Styles in a cinematic Boneyard match.

Tommaso Ciampa wrestling his last match for NXT today

Tommaso Ciampa will be wrestling his last match in NXT today at Stand & Deliver as he moves permanently to the main roster from next week.

Tommaso Ciampa had one of the most impressive careers in his six-and-a-half-year stint with NXT, starting as a tag team with Johnny Gargano on September 9, 2015. As a tag team, Ciampa along with Gargano had some hard-hitting feuds, notably with The Revival and Authors of Pain, resulting in some classic matches.

Ciampa would soon turn heel on his partner but was out for several months after he ruptured his ACL during a ladder match at NXT Takeover. He returned in 2018 as a surprise and attacked his former partner with a crutch, launching his singles stint in the brand.

As a singles competitor, Ciampa also stole the show with great matches against the likes of Aleister Black, Velveteen Dream, and of course the epic never-ending feud against Johnny Gargano.

A neck surgery forced Ciampa to surrender the NXT title he won from Black but he made a successful return to NXT, picking up where he left off, feuding with the likes of Adam Cole and The Undisputed Era.

Last September, Ciampa won the NXT title for the second time on the inaugural episode of NXT 2.0, defeating LA Knight, Pete Dunne, and Von Wagner in a fatal four-way match. He lost the title to Bron Breakker in January of this year.

His last match will be against Tony D’Angelo as part of NXT Stand & Deliver, airing later today exclusively on Peacock.

NXT Stand & Deliver live today on Peacock and WWE Network at 1PM ET

NXT is back in a regular arena and away from Orlando for the first time since NXT Takeover: Portland in February 2020. The show, Stand & Deliver, airs at Noon local time in Dallas and 1PM ET, and will take place from the American Airlines Center which has been configured for around 5,000 fans.

The full card is as follows:

Dolph Ziggler vs Bron Breakker for the NXT title; Imperium vs The Creed Brothers vs MSK for the NXT Tag Team titles; Mandy Rose vs Cora Jade vs Io Shirai vs Kay Lee Ray in a fatal four-way for the NXT Women’s title; Carmelo Hayes vs Santos Escobar vs Grayson Waller vs Solo Sikoa vs Cameron Grimes in a ladder match for the NXT North American title; Tommaso Ciampa vs Tony D’Angelo; LA Knight vs Gunther; and Toxic Attraction vs Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez for the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles in the Kickoff match.

Bag policy for WrestleMania 38 at AT&T Stadium

If you’re attending WrestleMania today and tomorrow you might want to be careful what you carry with you. Unless you want to avoid another trip to the parking lot or wherever you left your car, it’s important to read the bag policy set by AT&T Stadium.

Due to a modified security policy, AT&T Stadium has limited the size and style of bags allowed inside.

Prohibited bags include all purses, bags or containers larger than a small clutch bag, backpacks, binocular cases, briefcases, camera bags, cinch bags, computer bags, coolers, fanny packs, luggage of any kind, and even seat cushions.

Approved bags must be clear, plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″. Also approved are clear plastic storage bags that are re-sealable up to one gallon, and small clutch purses, approximately the size of a hand with or without a handle or strap. No larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″ with or without a handle or strap.

An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate designated for this purpose.

Rampage TV report for 04/01/2022

Arena: Colonial Life
City: Columbia, South Carolina

It’s Saturday morning, and you know what that means…  it’s time for our Rampage Review!

Coming off the show’s lowest ever rating (in the regular timeslot), would Tony Khan make tonight more of an ‘A’ show as he first promised.

YOUNG BUCKS VS TOP FLIGHT

Story going in: The Bucks eliminated Darius Martin from the tag battle royal in his return

Well, this was a hell of a start.  Hard to think of a more entertaining combo than these two teams.

Kicking us off, Nick Jackson and Dante Martin exchanged a bunch of flips, counters and stalemates at lightning pace until Top Flight each received a cheap shot.  Tagging in, Matt was the victim of quick in-n-out tags from the Martins, culminating in a senton from in-to-out by Dante as Nick Jackson was sent packing with a double dropkick.

Continuing their control, Darius grounded Matt but was clocked by Nick, who elevated in from the outside right into an inverted atomic drop from the older Martin.  After receiving a Poetry in Motion variation and a tope suicida, the frustrated veterans remained on the outside trying to regroup.

Luring the younger brothers into a superkick trap, the Bucks hit a buckle-bomb/enziguri combo on Darius and a shotgun dropkick to Dante.

Returning the favor as we returned, Dante hit one of his own from the top rope.  Raking the eyes, Matt tagged in Nick for his patented ‘comeback’, though Dante was ready, a step ahead at every turn before a senton brought a two-count.  As did a combo German suplex.

Attempting the Nose Dive, the younger Martin was shoved to the outside by Matt.  Unphased, Dante continued to thrive until a blind tag allowed the Bucks to slip-into a BTE Trigger for the 1,2,3.

While they needed a win ahead of their clash with the revival, this was nowhere near enough time for these guys.  Top Flight were a little sloppy at times, and a couple moves were a bit too choreographed but this was a fun, fast-paced seven or eight minutes of action to open the show.

Lastly, the crowd were very into this but the Bucks were not remotely heels to the folks in Carolina: ‘too sweet, whoop whoop’ etc. etc.

WINNER: The Young Bucks

A random Kris Statlander video package followed where her hair color and facepaint switched sides throughout.  Apparently, this is the ‘other side of Statlander’.

We were joined by the Men of the Year, Dan Lambert and Paige Vanzant.  Stood in the ring, Lambert called-out Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti’s ‘King and Queen of the Prom gimmick.’  Ethan and Paige made a bunch of masturbation jokes until Lambert cut them off, screaming that ‘they (Tay and Sammy) were never getting this match’.  Cut to Guevara in the parking lot with a sledgehammer, he and Tay then destroyed Lambert’s car with sledgehammers and spray-paint.

It’s worth noting that the TNT champ never got a word in.

Next was what everyone’s been waiting for.  Tony Schiavone was waiting to speak with Hook.  Before he could speak, Danhausen interrupted before attempting to ‘curse’ Hook again.  Frustrated, he failed.  Meh.

HOUSE OF BLACK VS FUEGO DEL SOL, EVIL UNO & STU GRAYSON

Story going in: Fuego challenged the HOB last week, before a stare-down with Dark Order

Malakai and co. were incredibly popular with what was a very good crowd.

‘Fuego’ chants filled the air as Grayson and Matthews got us off to a furious start ending only when del Sol tagged himself in.  Brodie King was nice enough to reintroduce him to his partners via air-mail.

Back from the break, Fuego made the hot tag, Grayson and Uno ran wild unleashing a combo powerbomb but Brodie cut-in with a clothesline before launching a cannonball from the apron onto both Dark Order members.

Very tentatively, with Malakai alone in the ring, Fuego crept back in only to find himself surrounded by the House until Murphy and King were dragged back out feet-first by the Order.  Taking advantage, del Sol got a quick roll-up for 2, before planting Black with a poisonrana and springboarding off the ropes.  Straight into a devastating heel kick which was followed by a nonchalant cover for the win.

They were then honored with Jericho’s ‘Sports Entertainer(s) of the Week’ award.

WINNER: The House always wins

Replying to Wednesday’s challenge, the Bucks listed their accomplishments as Matt acknowledged that they could just as easily be listing FTR’s.  With one difference, they’ve never beaten the Young Bucks.  The match is set for this coming Dynamite.  That’s a big one, particularly now that Dax and Kash are double champs.  Has to be the main event.

There was too much ‘shutup Brandon’ here: they’re great in the ring but Matt and Nick are over the top as heels.

JAMIE HAYTER VS SKYE BLUE, OWEN HART TOURNAMENT QUALIFIER

Story going in: N/A

For the geographically curious, Wolverhampton is nowhere near Southampton, as implied by Starks.

A tentative start with both ladies trading standing switches until Blue landed an arm-drag which was followed by her charging towards the corner only to be snatched and suplexed into the buckle.

Viciously, Hayter then provided a tour of the buckles – headfirst.

Attempting a suplex, Skye reversed it into a series of two-counts: cradle, crucifix bomb, roll-up.  After which Jamie snapped-off a mean backdrop-driver.  Retreating to the top-rope, Skye was crotched by the Englishwoman before being stuck with a superplex rolled-through into a brainbuster and finally the short-arm clothesline for the W.

Hayter was impressive here, lots of high-impact moves.  Blue veers between pretty good and tentative.

WINNER: Jamie Hayter

‘You continue to play with Fuego, you’re gonna get burnt’, was the translated warning from Penta to the House of Black.

KEITH LEE VS POWERHOUSE HOBBS

Story going in: Lee & Team Taz have been going at it since he arrived, now it’s time for the battle of the behemoths (written before goddamn Excalibur stole it!)

Excellent promo from the Powerhouse on Wednesday hyping this.  Followed up by another here pre-match.  Hobbs really presents as a star: the look, the charisma, the music/entrance combo.  His confidence seems to be growing by the week.

To the backdrop of ‘oooh bask in his glor-ry’ both big guys started slowly.  Attempting to outmuscle the other, there were a series of lock-ups, headlocks and shoulder charges – all amounting to a draw.  Until Lee finally plowed right into Hobbs, dislodging him from the ring as the ads arrived.

Things had switched as we returned: Hobbs controlling Lee who fought from his knees before being blasted with a lariat for two.

Returning to the battle of strength, each man grabbed a two-count: Lee blocking a hip-toss into a clothesline; Powerhouse reversing a powerbomb into a backdrop and a snap powerslam.  Pulling himself up by the ropes in the corner, Lee dodged his charging opponent – hip-toss, headbutt, Hobbs down.

Which brought a chair-wielding Ricky Starks to the apron until Swerve Strickland evened the odds.  Ultimately costing his fellow Team Taz member, Starks and Swerve grabbed the ref’s attention just as Hobbs hit his Last Will and Testament Spinebuster.  Upon the ref’s return to the ring, Lee capitalised, muscling Hobbs into the off-the-shoulder powerslam to bag the victory.

Made to pay for it, Starks nailed Swerve with a Roshambo though a table while Hobbs did the same to Lee with a crushing Spear as we went to black.

Even if – most weeks – the rest of the show could be spiced-up a bit, AEW are showcasing up-and-coming talent in the main event because these guys have been dominating Rampage for weeks now.

The action itself was nothing special but it made sense in that it was all about brute strength and the two were pretty evenly matched, not to mention continuing the feud, presumably a tag beckons.

WINNER: Keith Lee

GO OUT OF YOUR WAY TO WATCH…

  • This was on Dynamite but go and watch the Yuta/Danielson match in front of a red-hot crowd if you haven’t seen it.  That’s how you make a star.
  • Bucks vs Top Flight
