Ronda Rousey wins Smackdown Women’s title at Backlash

Ronda Rousey is the new Smackdown Women’s champion after last night at Backlash she beat Charlotte Flair in an I Quit match.

This was Rousey’s second go at the Smackdown Women’s title after she unsuccessfully challenged for it at WrestleMania last month, losing to Flair on night one of the show. She earned the right to wrestle for the title after winning the Royal Rumble in January in St. Louis.

The defeat ends Charlotte’s reign after 198 days. Flair was originally the Raw Women’s champion but swapped titles with Becky Lynch when the two went to opposite brands as champions.

It’s Ronda’s second run with a women’s title, having kept the Raw Women’s title for a total of 232 days, losing it to Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 35.

WrestleMania Backlash 2022 results

Here are the results from last night’s WrestleMania Backlash premium live event which took place from the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

Cody Rhodes defeated Seth Rollins; Omos defeated Bobby Lashley; Edge defeated AJ Styles; Ronda Rousey defeated Charlotte Flair in an I Quit match to become the new Smackdown Women’s champion; Madcap Moss defeated Happy Corbin; Roman Reigns and The Usos defeated Drew McIntyre and RK-Bro.

WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2022 PPV Pick’em report

Hello everybody! It’s @TheMagnumDA with yet another installment of the PPV Pick’em report. Tonight, it will be a classic one-on-one battle between yours truly and the Editor of Wrestling Online, Colin Vassallo. I walked out of WrestleMania with the WOPC Championship, but Colin wants one more crack at the gold…and who am I to turn down a challenge? Challenge accepted!

ON WITH THE PICKS!!

Happy Corbin vs. Madcap Moss

Colin: Ugh. Interest level in this one is zero. Nothing personal, but anything Corbin just doesn’t excite me. Madcap wins.

Magnum: I love me some Madcap. Ever since he took that bump on his head in Saudi Arabia, I’ve been a fan of this guy. He’s gotta be tough to survive that! I’ll go with Madcap and the continued push.

Bobby Lashley vs. Omos (with MVP)

Colin: Another ugh. Lashley deserves to be in a better place than this. Omos should be in NXT and try to get better. Yeah he’s a big man and there’s potential, but he’s miles away. Teaming Omos with MVP was a good move because MVP can talk. I’m thinking Omos picks up the win here.

Magnum: I gotta believe that MVP becomes the x-factor here. Lashley got the win at Mania, but tonight belongs to the big man, Omos.

“I Quit” match for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship
Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Ronda Rousey

Colin: I am so NOT invested in this for some reason. Rousey’s return has so far fallen flat in my opinion. Maybe wrong person to feud with? I dunno, it just doesn’t seem as special as the first time around. Can’t think that Rousey will say “I quit” here so I’m expecting a title change #ANDNEW.

Magnum: Yeah, this is another case of WrestleMania revenge. I expect Ronda to dominate this match and beat Charlotte handily. It’d be hilarious if Ronda got screwed again, though. Still, I’ll take Rousey.

Cody Rhodes vs. Seth “Freakin” Rollins

Colin: You’d think that Rollins will get the win here and then go for the final match and wrap up the feud, but I will be super surprised if Cody loses. I’m hoping they build him with a proper run and then challenge for the WWE title. Cody wins.

Magnum: Cody looks like he’s on track to win this and move on to Money in the Bank. Is he the one who can dethrone Roman Reigns? Time will tell. For now, I’ll take Rhodes to win this rematch.

AJ Styles vs. Edge – Damien Priest barred from Ringside

Colin: This will be a good one. I like heel Edge and I can think of one or two other people who can join his Judgment Day faction. Having said that, AJ needs a good win and hopefully he gets one tonight. Styles wins.

Magnum: This HAS to be better than their Mania match. Just because Damien Priest can’t be at ringside…doesn’t mean that Rhea Ripley can’t be there. Or Ciampa…or even Finn Balor. I’ll take Edge in this one, and I think he’ll introduce someone new to Judgment Day, as well.

Drew McIntyre and RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Riddle) vs. The Bloodline (Roman Reigns and The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso)) (with Paul Heyman)

Colin: Was disappointed when they turned this into a six-man tag match. They could have easily used Shinsuke Nakamura as a placeholder for a singles match against Reigns for this show. Six matches and just one title match? Come on! I’m keeping RK-Bro and Drew for the win, with one of the Usos taking the pin.

Magnum: Yeah, this could be the match where The Bloodline finally show some vulnerability. I think this sets up a summer program with Drew/Roman and Usos/RK-Bro. I like Drew, Orton, and Riddle in this six-man tag match.

Alright folks, that’s going to do it for us! Enjoy the show, and we’ll see you next time for the PPV Pick’em report! @TheMagnumDA signing off.

Malcolm Bivens confirms he refused new WWE contract, citing unhappiness

Former NXT star Malcolm Bivens addressed his release from WWE during a comedy show this week, confirming that he was offered a new deal with the company but he turned it down and wanted to move on.

Bivens, better known as Stokely Hathaway from his indie days, talked about being unhappy while in NXT during his comedy show at The Stand in NYC.

“Was I offered a contract in February? Yes. Did I say no to said contract? Yes. Was I offered to be with Omos? No. No one said a word to me about managing Omos. Was I told about the main roster? Yes,” he said.

He mentioned how people thought he was crazy turning down potential millions when he walked away.

“Yeah, I did, because I didn’t want to do it anymore. And, unfortunately, I just wasn’t happy,” he said.

Bivens noted that at NXT Stand & Deliver he talked with the NXT head writer and let him know how he feels and then things moved on from there.

Roman Reigns hints at leaving WWE in post-match speech in Trenton, New Jersey

Roman Reigns made a speech following his match at the non-televised live event in Trenton, New Jersey last night and hinted that he is starting a “new phase in his life” and his WWE days are numbered.

“I think there’s going to be some moves made here pretty soon. There’s always these speculations, these contract talks. All that pushing, that’s my business,” Reigns said.

“People who can dive deep enough…I’m sure they can uncover enough stones to figure out the time frame, but that’s something I definitely want to dabble in. I want to gain more experience and I want to use these tools that I’ve learned,” he continued.

Reigns said that WWE has done right by him and they gave him a lot and placed many great blessings and opportunities in front of him.

“I like to think that along the way, I just picked up so many skills and experienced so many different things that are going to help me because at the end of the day, we all know how this works. This is a young man’s game. You can’t fall down your whole life,” Reigns said.

He mentioned transitioning and create new content for his fan base and he thinks he has the ability to do just that.

“At the end of the day, it’s about getting into that game, being thrown into that fire and seeing how you do. I have a pretty good track record with being thrown in the deep end and if that’s what happens in Hollywood, I’m looking to swim,” Reigns concluded.

Reigns signed a WWE deal in 2019 and the rumors are that his contract expires in mid-2023.

Mia Yim returns to Impact Wrestling at Under Siege

Mia Yim made her return to Impact Wrestling last night at Under Siege, her first appearance on television in a very long time.

Yim showed up after the AAA Reina de Reinas title match between Taya Valkyrie and Deonna Purrazzo and had a brawl with Purrazzo who attacked Valkyrie following the match.

This is her second run with Impact Wrestling after she spent two years between 2015 and 2017 working there as part of The Dollhouse and later as the Knockouts champion. Prior to that, she made sporadic appearances for TNA.

Yim was released from WWE in November of last year after spending pretty much the whole year off television. Yim was part of the Retribution group which bombed on television. She worked for NXT prior to the main roster call up.

Kid jumps the security barrier to take photo with Cody Rhodes after Smackdown!

Cody Rhodes is well-known for staying late in the arena, making sure to take a photo with everyone who wants one at ringside after shows go off the air.

At Friday’s Smackdown, Rhodes did just that after the dark match ended and with most of the crowd already out of the building, the American Nightmare stuck around doing his thing with the fans.

One particular little fan was tired of waiting around and jumped the barricade and ran towards Rhodes while he was posing for a photo with another individual. The kid tapped Cody’s hands and Cody looked hilariously surprised to see him just casually asking for the photo.

The kid then pointed to Cody where his seat is as security and Cody then told the kid to go back to his seat before the former TNT champ went over to snap the pic!

“This popped me. He ended up getting the pic,” Rhodes replied to the tweet with the video, adding the laughing emoji with tears. “Good kiddo!”

The former NXT North American champion signed a short deal with Impact in November of last year and made his debut at the Turning Point episode of Impact, attacking Josh Alexander. He also wrestled for New Japan Pro Wrestling after he was surprisingly cut from WWE in August 2021.
