Professional wrestlers from Massachusetts

A powerhouse in the wrestling world, WWE has evolved dramatically since its inception in 1987. It now hosts more than 450 live events a year and is available across 28 languages to 900 million homes globally. Additionally, they have increased their annual pay titles from four to at least one—a testament to their success as an organization. Moreover, many fans and analysts alike see that today’s women’s division is outshining the men’s and vying for top spot on the international stage!

Superstars in the WWE come from many different nations. The chance to represent the WWE in the squared circle has been given to wrestlers from Japan, England, Ireland, and many other nations. But more superstars than most have come from the United States. Massachusetts, though, has a rich history and has produced some incredible talent for the WWE.

Which Professional Wrestlers have ties with Massachusetts?

Although the main focus of this article is WWE, we cannot discount some greatly influential and renowned athletes from Massachusetts: Mike Bennett – former X-Division Champion from Carver; TK O’Ryan & Vincent Marseglia – current Six man Tag Team Champions representing Ring of Honor in Worcester; Damien Sandow – a former WWE Superstar also hailing from Worcester. Last but not least are Eve Torres who was born in Boston but never given that billing despite being a Divas champion and current ambassador for WWE.

With a plethora of accomplishments, it is sure to be captivating to discover who will remain renowned as the most noteworthy star from this gorgeous state. Who could take the gold medal among all wrestlers? It’s time we find out!

Kofi Kingston

Kingston’s family moved to the greater Boston region after he was born in Ghana as Kofi Nahaje Sarkodie-Mensah, and Boston College is where he received his education. As a member of the New Day tag team faction and one-third, Kingston rose to extreme fame. One of the most successful teams in WWE history is The New Day.

Sasha Banks

Sasha Banks, better known by her ring name The Boss, was originally born in Fairfield, California; however, she migrated to Boston, Massachusetts, at a young age, where she began her career in professional wrestling. She has held the titles of Raw Women’s Champion three times and former NXT Women’s Champion once. She is Snoop Dogg’s cousin, the famous rap artist who performed during her entrance at WrestleMania 31.

It took Sasha a long time to establish herself after she joined NXT in 2012. The iconic battles began to appear once she introduced her new persona as The Boss. Even though she already won the NXT Championship, Bayley prevented her from defending it.

John Cena

Undoubtedly, John Cena is the most renowned athlete to hail from Massachusetts. This legendary wrestler has achieved success that rivals no other in history. When he first made an appearance on SmackDown fifteen years ago, little did we know of his upcoming accomplishments; since then, he has won a total 16 world championships – matching Ric Flair’s record! His notorious battle with Kurt Angle was pivotal as it marked the start of “The Ruthless Aggression Era” and also served as proof of what an outstanding match looked like.

From there, Cena shifted into his notorious “Doctor of Thuganomics” persona. His relatability and uncensored entry raps made him an immediate success amongst fans. He quickly became a phenomenon for everyone.

He is arguably the biggest name to have ever come out of the WWE in modern times, with the former wrestler following in the footsteps of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Cena has also headed to Hollywood and become a star. Nonetheless, he is always a favorite when he returns to the ring, too.

Indeed, with sports betting becoming legal in the home state of these superstars, there will be many who may look to utilize reputable Massachusetts Sportsbooks once live in the upcoming months, in order to place their wagers on their favorite wrestlers from the state. While he may only make sporadic appearances, there is no doubt that he will always be considered a top favorite for many.

Tommaso Ciampa

Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, Tommaso Ciampa was a member of the tag team #DIY alongside Johnny Gargano. With his remarkable performance in WWE’s developmental brand, he became the NXT Tag-Team Champion. Unbeknownst to some people perhaps; Tommaso Ciampa has had previous experience with the WWE before – when he served as one of Muhammad Hassan’s lawyers on SmackDown back in 2005! Briefly working for development and then being let go sparked him to establish himself independently instead – look how far it got him!

Carmella

Hailing from Worcester, Carmella – who is married to fellow WWE employee Corey Graves – has become a star through her employment with WWE and SmackDown. She is part of an elite group of women who capitalize on any opportunity to cause trouble. Before transitioning into the world of professional wrestling, she used to be a diehard LA Lakers fan! Some argue that it was thanks to being in partnership with the beloved Enzo & Cass duo that allowed Carmella’s career to take off like wildfire – even though her persona tends towards portraying villains more often than not. Together they absolutely dominated this developing field, quickly gaining immense fame as result!

Matt Bloom

Matt Bloom has had a distinguished career all across the world, despite not being a true celebrity right now. Currently serving as the WWE Performance Center’s chief trainer, he is in charge of developing the organization’s future superstars. It’s intriguing that he has a degree in sign language and was born in Peabody, Massachusetts. Prior to breaking into professional wrestling, he toyed with the idea of playing offensive tackle in the NFL and also held a position as a teacher. Prince Albert is a fictional character created during the Attitude Era.

Boston clearly has wrestling talent

Clearly, with wrestling in its DNA given the quality of the stars such as Tommaso Ciampa to John Cena, it is clear that the list of talent is endless. It’s clear that Boston has been a hotbed for professional wrestling over the years, and there are many more stars to come out of this city in the future!

AEW to honor Jay Briscoe on Dynamite, brother Mark vs Jay Lethal booked

AEW will have a special match dedicated to Jay Briscoe tomorrow night on Dynamite as his brother Mark Briscoe has been allowed to appear on the show.

Both brothers were banned from appearing on AEW television by Warner Bros. Discovery for homophobic remarks that Jay did over a decade ago, remarks that he had since apologized for and show remorse for saying.

AEW President Tony Khan announced on social media that Mark Briscoe will take on Jay Lethal in a match requested by both men to celebrate the life and legacy of Jay Briscoe on his 39th birthday.

There are also reports that Warner Bros. Discovery is allowing AEW to honor Jay in a proper way on Dynamite, something that was not allowed last week. WBD received some harsh backlash over their decision and have reversed the ban.

Jay Briscoe died last week in a car accident after another car crashed head-on into his vehicle. The crash, which also left the driver of the other car dead, thankfully did not kill his two daughters who were with him in the back seat. Both suffered serious injuries and had to undergo surgeries.

Report: Steve Austin offered match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that there was a pitch – and a good offer – for Stone Cold Steve Austin to return to the ring at WrestleMania 39 to face none other than Brock Lesnar.

Earlier in the day, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful said that Austin was pitched a match against Roman Reigns but Meltzer said that it was always Austin vs Lesnar and Reigns was never in the picture for Austin.

Austin vs Lesnar never happened in WWE because when it was booked to happen with no backstory and just a regular King of the Ring qualifier, The Rattlesnake walked out of WWE.

Stone Cold returned to the ring last year at WrestleMania and participated in a match against Kevin Owens, headlining night one of the show. That was his first match in 19 years.

Austin looks in great shape at the moment and recently uploaded several videos of himself training.

Betting on the WWE 2023? Here are 4 common Betting mistakes you should avoid

The WWE, or World Wrestling Entertainment, is a professional wrestling promotion founded in the 1950s by Toots Mondt and Jess McMahon. It’s currently the largest pro wrestling promotion globally, and it has over 300 live events annually, and they ensure that fans at home can watch it. These matches have over 36 million viewers in over 150 countries.

If you’re one of them and considering betting on this entertainment, you better stack up on some wrestling betting know-how. This article combines the common betting mistakes wrestling fans make when they place their bets on the match’s outcome.

Avoid Registering in an Unregistered Betting Site.

Sports betting can be safe and fun when you register on a registered betting website, especially when considering betting on wrestling matches! You must find a reputable website that gives competitive WWE odds and lines. Ensure that the site is registered to avoid any mishaps in the future.

What are these mishaps? Well, online gaming has its dangers, especially if the website is unregistered and isn’t bound by the law. When their business isn’t registered, they may not use any protection to protect your details and betting habits. They can quickly shut down the website and run away with your winnings and hard-earned money. These are instances that you can avoid by also avoiding unregistered wrestling sites.

Don’t fret since numerous great betting sites give you better odds, superb user usability, and maybe a downloadable mobile application.

Don’t Forget To Look for Better Odds.

Most online sportsbooks have dedicated sections for each sport, including wrestling. However, on some sites, you may find the odds for WWE located in the “specialty” location. You should also know that the best WWE betting sites would dish up WWE odds all year round. But you may have a hard time locating the prices of these odds.

Some wrestling sites list the odds ahead of the significant events, so you may not get to pick which sportsbook you’ll bet on a few weeks before the event.

Be sure to explore each site you come across since each sportsbook is different. Note that it doesn’t mean that a website doesn’t have a devoted section for wrestling, and it doesn’t mean that you won’t find any WWE odds on their website. You may have to search hard for the jewel!

Avoid Betting on Just One WWE Event.

As you may know, the WWE has numerous events, and it would be a waste not to bet on more than one event. Different matches occur year-round, e.g., WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown. Let’s take a quick look at these events:

WWE Raw

The WWE Raw or WWE Monday Night Raw program was first aired in 1993. Raw is one of the best pro wrestling programs and arguably the most significant WWE brand there is. Jerry Lawler presents it and airs it on the USA Network at 8 PM ET every Monday. As of today, there are about 1,542 episodes.

WWE SmackDown

First aired in 1999; WWE SmackDown currently airs on Friday nights at 8 PM ET. Initially, this pro wrestling program served as a complementary program to WWE Raw, but over time, WWE SmackDown eventually gathered a massive fanbase of its own.

WWE NXT

This wrestling program serves as a developmental division for newcomers trying to make it in pro wrestling. It first aired in 2010 and is a supporting brand for WWE. Many fans enjoy the WWE betting action in the WWE NXT; it’s trendy for bettors and fans alike.

WrestleMania

WrestleMania is considered the highlight reel of WWE. It’s showcased annually, and it occurs from mid-March to Mid-April. It features the biggest names in the WWE. It’s the event where you can bet on the best of the best wrestlers out there and earn some money!

Avoid Believing That WWE Isn’t Predetermined.

While many are aware that WWE matches are staged, there are still some who believe otherwise. WWE is a staged entertainment, but that doesn’t mean you don’t use this information to your advantage.

The winners and losers of the wrestling match are selected and written in a script before the matches take place. However, only a few individuals are privy to this information, and it’s protected from the public eye, even your bookies! The outcome remains unknown to the general public, making it possible to bet on the match’s outcome.

Final Thoughts

Wrestling, especially WWE events, is one of the most popular sports you can bet on nowadays. Simple bets, such as betting on who will win the match on Monday Raw or WrestleMania, provide thousands of fans with entertainment.

While WWE betting can be enjoyable and straightforward, there are still some common mistakes that bettors tend to make. Many may do this due to their intense feelings since WWE matches are undoubtedly intense to watch if you want to ensure that you’re winning big and securing your chances of winning.

Royal Rumble just a thousand tickets away from 40,000

The 2023 Royal Rumble is just under 1,000 tickets away from hitting 40,000 sold as more sections were opened up in the Alamodome to accommodate more fans.

Ticket tracking service @Wrestletix reports that 39,028 tickets were sold by January 18. Last year’s Royal Rumble in St. Louis, which had an announced attendance of 44,390, saw a big rally in the final few days with thousands of more tickets sold in the last week.

If this year’s event follows the same trajectory of last year’s last week, it could also match the 2022 number.

WWE is not using the full capacity of the Alamodome and has a big portion of it closed off with the ring not even in the center of the stadium. There will be no big set and it will be a setup similar to last year’s show.

WWE celebrates 30 years of Monday Night Raw tonight with RAW IS XXX

WWE celebrates 30 years of Monday Night Raw with the RAW IS XXX themed episode live from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Three huge matches have been announced for tonight’s landmark broadcast, including Austin Theory vs Bobby Lashley for the United States title, The Usos vs Dominik Mysterio and Damian Priest for the Raw Tag Team titles, and Becky Lynch vs Bayley in a steel cage match.

Sami Zayn will also be the defendant in the Bloodline Tribal Court for his actions from last Friday, a change in creative because the elder members of the Anoa’i family were unable to appear for the previously-announced acknowledgment ceremony.

Also, several WWE Hall of Famers will be appearing on the show including Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Road Dogg, Ron Simmons, X-Pac, Kurt Angle, Nikki Bella, Brie Bella, Teddy Long, Jerry “The King” Lawler, and more!

Raw will have no football competition from tonight and this episode is expected to bring in more eyeballs than usual.

10 of the greatest wrestlers ever

Dwayne Johnson

Pretty much everyone knowns who Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is. Although he only competed in the WWE for six years full time, those six years were some of the best in WWE history during the Attitude Era. He eventually went on to Hollywood where he achieved unprecedented success in television and film, and became the highest-paid male actor in the world – pin up casino.

John Cena

John Cena, one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time, is at 16 world titles, matching Ric Flair’s record. It’s hard to not put him in the list considering his longevity in the ring and the amount of work he puts in for Make-A-Wish Foundation. Cena, just like The Rock, has now chosen Hollywood and spends more time acting than wrestling.

The Undertaker

With an unmatched WrestleMania record, The Undertaker is one of the most popular WWE Superstars ever. From his debut in 1990 up until his retirement 30 years later, it’s very hard to find another one like him. Indeed, there is only one Phenom and the former multi-time WWE champion deserves his spot here.

Roman Reigns

Starting out as part of The Shield, Roman Reigns was always destined for greatness. The current Undisputed WWE Universal champion has surpassed many champions when it comes to long reigns and is currently at nearly 900 days as champion, the longest in four decades. Reigns took a few months off after a bout with leukemia but came back stronger than ever as The Tribal Chief.

Brock Lesnar

Here comes the pain! Successful both in wrestling and in MMA, Brock Lesnar is the “break glass in case of emergency” for WWE. You might not see him for months, but when he comes back, you better hold on to your seat! Brock is the only individual in history to have held both the WWE and UFC heavyweight championships.

Hulk Hogan

With no Hulk Hogan, there would be no WrestleMania and without Hulk Hogan, there would be no WWE as we know it. Ask anyone who is not a fan to name a wrestler and the chances are he’s going to say Hulk Hogan. The man who carried WWE in the 80s and early 90s is no longer wrestling but Hulkamania will live forever.

Triple H

From Hunter Hearst Helmsley to Triple H to WWE COO, the man known as The Game had quite a career in WWE. Multiple title reigns and leader of D-Generation X and Evolution, Triple H has done it all in the ring, and now he’s doing it all behind the scenes. When it’s time to play the game, you know you’re going to get entertained.

Steve Austin

Perhaps the most popular wrestler of the Attitude Era, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin can still get a pop whenever he appears on TV. Just recently, the Rattlesnake returned to the ring after a 19-year absence, headlining WrestleMania 38 with Kevin Owens. Oh hell yeah!

Ric Flair

Wooooo! The Stylin’, profilin’, limousine riding, jet flying, kiss-stealing, wheelin’ n’ dealin’ son of a gun! No one had a career quite like the Nature Boy. 16-time world champion across the NWA, WCW, and WWE, he’s often referred to as arguably the greatest professional wrestler in the world. He’s also a two-time Hall of Famer and last year wrestled his last match.

Randy Orton

With 14 world titles to his name, Randy Orton trails just Flair and Cena in total reigns and maybe, just maybe, has enough left in him to catch them. The Viper, who was part of Evolution with Triple H, Ric Flair, and Batista, is one of the most popular wrestlers in the world and his finisher, the RKO, is often a highlight of the night.

WWE to open a Superstore for Royal Rumble weekend

WWE will have a Superstore set up for the Royal Rumble weekend at the entrance of parking lot C at the Alamodome.

The Superstore will open on Thursday, January 26 from 4PM to 9PM and will then be open on 10AM till 9PM on Friday, 9AM to 11PM on Saturday, and 9AM to 2PM on Sunday.

It will have the largest collection of exclusive Royal Rumble merchandise, championship titles, apparel, and a viewing of the official memorabilia from the upcoming Season 2 of WWE and A&E’s Most Wanted Treasures, including items from your favorite Superstars like Roddy Piper, Macho Man Randy Savage, Dusty Rhodes and more!

Update on the condition of Jay Briscoe’s daughters

Both of Jay Briscoe’s daughters, who were with him in the car at the time of the fatal car crash, have undergone surgeries and are now recovering.

12-year-old Gracie was paralyzed from the waist down but is now regaining feeling back after suffering an L2 dislocation and L3/L4 fractures. Gracie also had spinal cord compression which complicated things more. As hours and days went on by, she was getting feeling back in her legs and was able to get up and sit in a wheelchair according to an update on Facebook provided by the family. The road to full recovery is a long one for Gracie but these steps were considered crucial.

9-year-old Jayleigh had a C7 neck fracture and L3/L4 fractures in her back, forcing her to be in neck and leg braces for the next few months. Apart from that, she also broke her tibia, fibula, ribs, and a perforated bowel. She still cannot eat or drink so doctors fitted her with a tube until she can heal better.

Both of them survived the crash being in the back of the car and wearing seatbelts.

Sami Zayn to undergo Bloodline Tribal Court tomorrow on RAW IS XXX

Sami Zayn will undergo a Bloodline Tribal Court tomorrow night on RAW IS XXX as the Bloodline Acknowledgement Ceremony has been dropped in favor of advancing the storyline with Zayn coming off that chaotic ending of Smackdown.

Zayn, who’s walking on a thin line with the faction at the moment, came out late to save the rest of the group on Friday and instead of taking out Owens, he paused, stared down his frenemy, and let Owens escape unharmed.

The exciting storyline and dynamics between Zayn, Reigns, The Usos, Sikoa, and Heyman are reaching a fever high and it will be just a matter of time before the trigger is pulled to either have Zayn double-cross The Bloodline or The Bloodline turn on him.

The original acknowledgment ceremony was supposed to feature the older members of the Anoa’i family. It remains unclear if they will still appear as part of the Tribal Court or simply removed from the broadcast all together.
