Rampage TV report for 06/02/2023

AEW Rampage tonight comes to us from the Viejas Arena in San Diego, CA .  After last week drawing 436,000 & 0.11 in the 18-49 demo.

You guys see that report about Punk and Steel having creative input for Collision?  Cannot believe Steel’s even being brought back, let alone this.  Don’t know how it’s possible to have any form of discipline in the company if it’s true – he’s basically being rewarded.

Vikingo vs Komander vs Dralistico (AAA Title)

Backstory: None

Say it with me – ‘Already in the ring’, the challengers went after Vikingo who ducked and dodged until all three took turns jumping over the others cross-body style while they were on all fours.  Did not look like wrestling or combat.

Dralistico flung the champ into the barricade then hit a boot to Komander before coming in via springboard senton to bag an early two.  Earning him chants of ‘pero’ from the crowd as he threatened to leave up the ramp.

Vikingo still down outside, Dralistico threw open hands and knife edges, Komander briefly fought back but was trapped between the ropes (more correctly, he very clearly held himself in place) as Dralistico came off the top via stomp.  Before Vikingo hit a crazy dive onto the heel.

Following up with a gamengiri in the corner then the implosion hurracanarana and his outside-to-in phoenix splash for dessert.  Count of two.  Dralistico elevated Komander outside, he and Vikingo went nose-to-nose before teeing off with open-hands and forearms.  Until Dralistico ate a corkscrew kick as the champ bagged two.

Break.

Dralistico brought Komander back in, hitting a thrust kick in the corner before posing atop the buckle to boos.  But missed a running boot, Komander partially hit a springboard hurracanrana then Matrix’d under Vikingo amid a flurry armdrags and dropkicks.  Rapid sequence, very well executed.

Before rope-walk diving his way onto the other two brawling on the outside.  Then heading up top again with Dralistico down inside.  A rope walk 450 seeing the subsequent pin broken up by Vikingo, who avoided a splash in the corner, then hit a corkscrew reverse hurracanrana onto Komander, who ended up on an apron adjacent table.

Where Vikingo springboard 630’d onto him.  Dralistico flung him inside, readying a powerbomb, but Vikingo turned the tables to hook the pin out of a hurracanrana.

I guess it depends on your taste.  I do like some Lucha – the Bros are among my favorite guys – but there was enough sloppiness here to provide ammo for the genre’s detractors.

Komander did keep the rope walking to an impactful minimum here.

Winner: Vikingo

They showed Aubrey Edwards’ problems with the J’s, including Karen Jarrett hitting her with a guitar at the ppv.  And of course that group can’t be off tv for a week.

Talking to Lexi, they were interrupted by Mark Briscoe who said they wouldn’t be suspended cause then Jarrett and Karen couldn’t get the ‘ass-whuppin’ they deserve.

Aubrey then stepped into the picture, putting a really fake-looking choke on Karen as the four brawled.  Guess we’re getting a mixed tag.

AEW have young, up-and-coming women on the roster who never get tv time.  Even the current champion, fresh off snagging the title, got as much time this week as Mrs Jarrett.

Zack Sabre Jr. vs Action Andretti (New Japan World TV Title)

Backstory: None

The poster boy for AEW’s inability to follow-up on pushes was out first.  Excalibur tried to put across that this was the only place you’d see three different promotions’ belts defended on the same show.  That might be the problem.

Zack went for the arm early, seeking wrist control, torquing Andretti down into an arm-wringer on the mat.  Andretti tried to flip out, Zach held on to the wrist.  Andretti tried a monkey flip, Zach held on again.

About as different from the previous match as you’ll get so far, as Andretti finally flipped his way free then hit an armdrag from the top, following up via dropkick and a spinning springboard splash.

Count of two.

Hurracanrana from the top, Zack to the outside, Andretti drove him into the barricade via tope, flung him back inside; Zack caught him on the apron into a body scissors focusing on the shoulder, using the ropes for leverage.

Sabre continued to target the shoulder with hammerlocks and stomps.  Then uppercuts to the face before going back to wrist control, Andretti fighting back with open hand chops but being rolled through into a submission wrenching back on the shoulder.

Back up to their feet, back to wrist control, Sabre made Andretti carry his weight to add torque until being snatched up into a suplex.  Action hit a springboard enziguri for two.  Looked for a fireman’s carry but his shoulder couldn’t take it – Sabre took advantage again with a drop toe hold and stomp to the injured joint.

Action returned fire again via enziguri, hit a stinging slap to the chest in the corner then headed upstairs.  Where Sabre again targeted the shoulder, fought off Andretti only for the youngster to spring straight back up and haul him down via hurracanrana.

Sabre fired kicks to the injured arm, Action popped a thrust kick, poisonrana, running dropkick, split leg, count of two.

Action was then hauled out of the air into a lock working on both shoulders, the joints pinned behind his back by Sabre’s legs.  Forcing the youngster to tap.  Great looking submission – absolutely brutal.

Liked the story of Sabre looking to keep Andretti grounded via wrist control; Zack’s matches are a little slow for me from the couple I’ve seen.

Guess none of the porridge served by tonight’s show is quite right for me yet.

Winner: Zack Sabre Jr.

They pushed the debut of Collision and return of Punk again.  And of course tickets for all the upcoming Collision events.

Willow Nightingale vs Emi Sakura (NJPW Strong Women’s Title)

Backstory: None

Willow got easily the biggest pop so far as she came out.  She might be the most over female in the company outside of Britt & Jamie (maybe Shida too).

JR sent best wishes to Mercedes Mone.

Immediately, Sakura charged the champ with shoulder thrusts.  Repeatedly.  Willow tried the same.  No dice.  Until Willow followed her into the ropes, knocking her down from behind.

Following up via suplex, taking Emi to the corner for chest chops, Sakura turned the tables, Willow avoided an onrushing Sakura by slipping to the apron.  Where the two fought around a suplex – Sakura looking to bring Willow in; Willow looking to take Emi out.

Until Sakura slipped free and speared the champ off the apron.  Before flinging her into the barricades and squashing her against them via running cross body.

Ads.  Nice start.

Willow bagged two via shotgun dropkick from the middle buckle, hauled Emi onto her shoulders.  Sakura slipped behind to hit a twisting CrossRhodes then that same running cross body – this time against the buckle – and a twisting Vader bomb for a close two.

Sakura bagged a rollup for two; Willow blocked la magistral.  Both thought lariat, neither could again budge the other.  Until both dropped after a mid-ring collision.  Sakura hit a sit-out Jay Driller, Willow struggling to her feet, met with chops, pushed to the corner but exploding out via pounce.

Sakura left down in the opposite corner, squashed via cannonball.  Another close count.

Nightingale pulled the straps down, looking for Dr. Bomb.  Sakura blocked it, threw slaps to the face until being smashed via lariat.  Whereafter, Willow snatched her limp body up into a fantastic looking Dr. Bomb to bag the win.

Easily my favorite match so far.  Very physical.

Winner: Willow Nightingale

The ads here included the announcement of CM Punk’s return for the debut Collision.  Complete with sound sweetening.  There were only cheers and chants of his name.

Katsuyori Shibata vs Lee Moriarty (ROH Pure Title)

Backstory: None

I don’t mind a dash of ROH stuff on AEW tv but it’s starting to creep in a bit too frequently again.  They showed Christopher Daniels, Jerry Lynn & BJ Whitmer as judges.

Okay, Shibata beat Willow’s pop.  But it was in the same ballpark.  Big Bill came to the ramp with Lee but then headed backstage.  As Excalibur explained the Pure rules – three ropebreaks, no closed fists.

Fittingly, the match went right to mat work, Shibata seeking a juijigitame, causing Moriarty to use a ropebreak early.  To a grapple and waistlock, Shibata took Moriarty down, Lee bridged back up but remained in the waistlock until freeing himself and stomping down Shibata in the corner.

Shibata caught his boot, dragged him middle, Moriarty slipped free, hitting the ropes and rebounding with a dropkick to bring the break.

In a leglock as we returned, Moriarty used his second ropebreak.

To their feet, Shibata fired away with wicked shots in the corner, Moriarty came back with a running knee for two.  Then had a suplex blocked and ate a knee to the gut after rebounding off the ropes.  Shibata again put him in the corner, where he fired in forearms then his running dropkick.  And a suplex for two.

Using his final ropebreak, Moriarty then transitioned to a rollup, Shibata kicked out at two but was immediately placed in the Border City Stretch.  Managing to grab a cradle for two to break the hold.  Then hit a stiff chop, into a sleeper, Moriarty dropped and was punted via PK as Shibata retained.

Figured this was going to end via submission since Moriarty used all his ropebreaks.  Liked the second half of the show better than the first.

Afterwards, Daniel Garcia went face-to-face with Shibata, who held the belt up in his face.  I’m already bored of Garcia, but trying to present him as a credible title contender?  Ridiculous.  When did he last do a single consequential thing on tv?  September?

Winner: Katsuyori Shibata

Roman Reigns’ 1000 days as champion celebration headlines Smackdown tonight

WWE will celebrate Roman Reigns’ 1,000 days as champion tonight live on Smackdown, a celebration which will surely be an interesting one to watch considering what happened at Night of Champions this past Saturday.

Reigns will presumably be without two of his henchmen – Jimmy and Jey Uso – and Jimmy especially has a lot to answer for after he super kicked The Tribal Chief not once, but twice in Jeddah.

Also set for tonight are two Money in the Bank qualifying matches, with Montez Ford taking on LA Knight and Zelina Vega versus Lacey Evans.

Impact rating for 06/01/2023

Collision’s first episode in Chicago sees small spike in ticket sales after Punk announcement

The announcement of CM Punk being part of the first episode of AEW Collision led to an increase of around 700 tickets in a day.

The United Center in Chicago is now estimated to have just over 7,500 tickets with two weeks to go according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, and while the number might seem low compared to previous AEW shows in the same arena, this first episode has the most tickets out of any show right now apart from Forbidden Door and All In.

Punk’s addition has so far not led to an increase in the other cities where Collision will be held, with the biggest disappointment being the Toronto show at the Scotiabank Arena on the eve of Forbidden door with less than 2,000 tickets sold in an arena that can hold nearly 19,000 fans. Forbidden Door is, on the other hand, sold out.

The Hamilton, Ontario show on June 29 has even less, with tickets not even breaking 1,000 as of today at the FirstOntario Centre, a large arena which hosts up to 17,000 fans.

Braun Strowman undergoes cervical fusion surgery, out for several months

WWE Superstar Braun Strowman announced on social media that he had a level one fusion on his C4/C5 vertebrae, explaining why he has not been on WWE television lately.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Andrew M. Cordover, of Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

“Thank you to WWE for always taking the upmost care of us,” Strowman wrote, adding that it was very scary to find out that he has to undergo the procedure.

“They were there every step of the way reassuring that I was going to have the best care possible,” he added. “This will take a little bit of time to heal from.”

Strowman assured fans that he will be back and thanked everyone for the well wishes.

Recovery from cervical fusion surgery usually takes up to six months.

Wrestlers’ off-ring thrills: why professional wrestlers are gravitating towards online casino games

Wrestling is an entertaining sport to watch. However, to professional wrestlers, the sport is more than providing entertainment to viewers; it’s a grueling activity for both the mind and body. As a result, you’ll mostly see them looking lean and healthy. However, with all their incredible bodies and looks, wrestling still takes its toll on most wrestlers’ physical and mental states.

That’s why in between high-stakes matches, many professional wrestlers unwind with the excitement of online casino games, as analyzed by CasinoUSA.com, reflecting an interesting overlap between the wrestling and gaming communities. If you’re a fan of any or both activities, you’d agree they have some similarities – entertainment and mental challenge. This article examines why many professional wrestlers gravitate toward online casino games.

Why Professional Wrestlers Love Online Casino Games

Every professional wrestler has a specific reason for loving online casino games. While telling you the particular reason for each wrestler may be pretty impossible, some common grounds will be discussed below.

  1. Entertainment

Entertainment is one of the most popular reasons many fighters love casino games. After all the rigorous training and wrestling exercises, many wrestlers like to cool off by playing online casino games due to the thrills and excitement they present.

Many online casino games are often mentally challenging, and wrestlers enjoy the challenge they offer. And, of course, there’s also the thrill of risking their money for a chance to win more, which can be really exhilarating.

  1. Convenience

Many wrestlers prefer online casino games because they are convenient to access and play. These games eliminate the stress and hassle of visiting a physical venue to play. All you need is a device with an internet connection to play, regardless of location.

This fact alone makes these games attractive for wrestlers as they can engage in them during training breaks, while strolling to the gym, before going to bed – just about any free time they can muster.

  1. Non-Stop Action

Wrestling has earned a reputation for providing non-stop action. This is evident in the way the WWE offers entertainment year-round. Online casinos also follow that fashion, as the industry provides non-stop thrills throughout the year to the delight of players. Wrestlers find this attractive as it allows them to hop from one non-stop action to another.

  1. Large Variety of Games

Like many other celebrities, most wrestlers love poker. However, many are also into other games, and online casinos have these games in numerous varieties. Wrestlers can enjoy casino titles such as slots, roulette, blackjack, baccarat, and even engage in live dealer versions of these games when playing on gambling sites.

  1. Anonymity

Anonymity is also one of the primary reasons many wrestlers love online casino games. Unlike physical casinos, gaming sites provide an anonymous way for these wrestlers to play their favorite games away from the attention of the public and press. The complete anonymity on these platforms allows them to explore and play their favorite games without disturbance.

  1. Bonus and Special Offers

Everybody loves freebies, even celebrities – it’s probably human nature. Despite their immense wealth, amazing bodies, and superhuman actions, professional wrestlers are still human. They are therefore attracted to the various enticing bonuses and special offers that online casinos always seem to offer.

Most online casinos offer a handful of bonuses as soon as you register. As you continue playing, you’ll unlock more offers. Wrestlers are often high-stake gamblers and hence unlock more special offers, meaning they get more funds and incentives to enjoy their favorite games on gambling sites.

Conclusion

The wrestling arena has been providing entertainment for many decades, and wrestlers are well-loved for their persona, performance, and career achievements. However, these individuals still need to engage in other pastimes to have fun away from their careers. Many of them have chosen to play casino games online in recent years. This article explores why these superhuman athletes gravitate toward online casino games.

How does intuition interfere with UFC betting?

UFC fights are maybe the most exciting and fascinating events to watch when it comes to MMA competitions. There is so much heat, so much action and the atmosphere -whether you watch a fight live, you see it broadcasted on TV or you stream it on a sportsbook that offers UFC betting in Germany – is explosive.

It does not matter whether you get to see your favorite fighter fight against a big opponent or you get to simply see good fights in bouts that make everyone get off their seats. All it matters is that UFC fights are unique and they raise your adrenaline to the top.

From a betting angle now, UFC fights are equally impressive and fascinating. For bettors fight nights are always a good way to have greater fun while watching an event, engage with the fight, support their favored fighters and even back their favored athletes with their wagers. But above all, fight nights are perfect opportunities for punters to do what they love doing most – and that is betting to make profits.

UFC betting is really challenging. First of all because fights are volatile and everything can change quickly and second because bettors tend to base their decisions and choices on their ‘gut feelings’ and intuition, more than they do so on the basis of informed and stat-driven decisions. That is rather inevitable, since MMA as a sport is person-centered, which means that fans are centered around the fighters themselves.

In short, MMA is a sport where people get to love and follow fighters and so, they can’t easily detach from their feelings and emotions when they are called to make more rational decisions. And if we consider that betting decisions are said to be more effective when they are based on rational evaluations and when they are data-driven, then this creates challenges for those who are into UFC betting.

Intuition or ‘gut feelings’ are always -to some extent- present in our decisions. Even if we believe to have gotten a logical, rational choice, there is always some form of intuitive thinking or emotional interference in that choice. And this is not clear or explicit every time. In some cases, our intuitions prevail and influence our rational thinking, making us believe that what we have made is a purely logical, reasonable decision.

This is often the case in UFC betting. Many times, punters wager on a fighter to win a bout, not because they have done a thorough study of relevant data or because they have done a good statistical analysis, but because their emotions have gotten in the way. But the interesting thing is that they don’t realize that their choices were intuitive and emotional choices.

This has to do with the fact that people often rely on their intuition to pick up on complex cues and information around them and it is only through intuition that they do or do not make sense. The element of emotion is critical here.

While people think that they have rationally made a decision, in the end it is the intuition or the ‘gut feeling’ that has driven their decision, because it is this that has created meaning in all the available information.

So, what’s the role of intuition in UFC betting? Well, since bettors’ choices are frequently filtered by their intuition, their decisions are largely based on emotions, which is  -as we said earlier – unavoidable, given the nature of the sport.

But it should go as far as this. Bettors should not rely exclusively on their gut feeling when they want to place a wager on a bout, because if they recognize the emotional aspect as a dominant factor affecting their bets, then they will normally leave every bit of data, information and statistics out of the picture. And we all know by now that sports betting can and should be systematic and based on sophisticated analysis more than it should be based on emotions.

So, for those of you who love to bet on UFC fights, you should be really aware of the fact that every choice you make, always contains the element of intuition no matter how thoughtful, clear, conscious and explicit your approach has been on using data, info and statistics.

Facing the NBA on TNT which did 12 million viewers, Monday Night Raw drew an average of 1,611,000 viewers this week, down 26,000 viewers from last week’s broadcast. This was the least-watched show since January 16.

The show started with 1,642,000 viewers and then increased to 1,696,000 viewers in the second hour. But the third hour dropped to 1,495,000 to drag the overall number down.

Pat McAfee working with WWE to “figure out” how to return

On the latest episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Pat McAfee said that he’s still in constant contact with Michael Cole, Nick Khan, Triple H, Kevin Dunn, and Vince McMahon and the relationship with WWE is stronger than it has ever been.

McAfee has not returned to his Smackdown commentary duties as expected following the end of ESPN’s College GameDay but has made two surprises appearances – at the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania – since then.

“We are all very much talking about how I get back in the Universe because I love it. We talked about this earlier, I love it, I think I’m good at it, I think I’m supposed to be in there,” McAfee said. “I understand why people are doing things, I think that’s why commentating was a good spot for me alongside Michael Cole…the greatest of all time.”

McAfee confirmed that both Nick Khan and Vince McMahon gave him pointers and suggestions when he was dealing for a new contract with ESPN, a contract which is reportedly worth $85 million over five years.

“Getting to get stunned by Stone Cold Steve Austin…I lived out dream after dream after dream over there. I love that place, our relationship is very strong,” he continued. “We’re working. We’re all trying to figure it out.”

CM Punk officially announced for Collision’s debut in Chicago

CM Punk has been officially confirmed returning to AEW at the upcoming Collision live from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, June 17.

The announcement of his return was done by AEW President Tony Khan, who yesterday showed up on Dynamite again to give out the news personally.

“I am here tonight to give you a little bit information on the debut of AEW Collision,” Khan said. “I am here to announce that AEW Collision beginning June 17 will feature…CM Punk.”

The announcement was met with a huge pop and chants of CM Punk from the San Diego crowd.

This will be the first time that Punk will appear on AEW television since the All Out pay-per-view and the subsequent post-show press conference which kicked off a series of events that rocked AEW.

Punk’s involvement was pretty much confirmed when last week the company said that the first episode of Collision would be in Chicago.

The event originally had the tagline “The Second Coming,” but that hasn’t been used officially yet. Punk’s debut in AEW in 2021 carried the tagline “The First Dance.”

Dynamite TV report for 05/31/2023

AEW Dynamite tonight comes to us from the Viejas Arena in San Diego, CA .  After last week drawing 846,000 & 0.32 in the 18-49 demo.

Man I loved that world title match.  Made me realize what I’m missing about the current product – I don’t want a ton of ex-WWE guys: I want young, fresh, different.

Seems the show wasn’t all that well received.  I actually only watched the last two matches and the end of the battle royal.  Sounds like it was a good choice.

Hope you guys enjoyed it anyway.

Blackpool Combat Club vs Lucha Bros & Bandido

Backstory: Lucha Bros beat Claudio & Yuta last week

Danielson’s the one not wrestling here, joining comms instead.  Mox positively strutted to the ring.  With a ‘DEATH JITSU’ hoodie.  The Dragon ducked a question about Callis & Takeshita joining the BCC: Callis will speak later.

Both teams got full entrances, the show didn’t seem as rushed as usual.  And they pushed some of the ppv happenings and what’s to come later.

The Bros massively over with the locals, who might already have gotten louder than Vegas ever did.

Straight to a six-way brawl, the BCC were blasted outside with thrust kicks but came back to block stereo dives.  The brawl moving outside as Mox used ‘technical wrestling in violent ways’ per Danielson – that’s Death Jitsu.

Yuta flung Bandido back in, the bell finally ringing, something cool happened outside but we missed it (the Bros, CC & Mox continued fighting out there).  As Yuta got two after a slam.

Then looked for a suplex which was blocked into Bandido’s delayed one, the Bros fending off interference with superkicks and arm locks.  For a crowd count of sixty!  Bandido holding one hand out to indicate the numbers.  The ref only got to two on his count.

Fear Factor readied, Yuta slipped free but ate a rope-walk punt, Penta hit a back cracker off the buckle to Mox.  Bandido missed a springboard cross body and was quickly dragged outside for a double team piledriver by Mox and Claudio.

Break.  Nice action before a very energetic crowd.  Makes such a difference.

Bandido in a face lock, briefly freeing himself before Mox re-established control with forearms in the corner.  Bandido hit a spectacular tornillo off the top buckle, tag to Rey, Claudio in too, a blur of activity: Rey thrust kick, Yuta in, Rey springboard spin kick, tag to Penta, uno dos tres kicks, Penta slingblade to Claudio, elevated thrust kick to the face, cazadora into a ddt on Mox as he entered, Castagnoli blasted Penta with a lariat, all three down.

Yuta and Bandido once more – yay/boo – for ages, the crowd roaring until Yuta took a shortcut by biting the head.  Bandido snapped back with a pop-up cutter, headed upstairs, the Bros taking out the other two with dives as Bandido came off the top via splash.  Yuta just kicked out.

Bandido hit a knee strike.  But from outside, Mox blocked 21-plex, Claudio hit an uppercut through the ropes, leaping knee from Yuta, H&A, Bandido already out of it as Yuta bagged the win with a seatbelt pin.

Seems they’re pushing him for something.  Danielson kept mentioning he’d pinned Omega Sunday, insisting on hitting the ring to raise Yuta’s hand.

This match was mental.  I undoubtedly missed stuff.  Absolutely rapid, all six flying all over the place before a hot crowd.  Perfect opener.

Winner: BCC

Marvez with the Elite (sans Kenny).  Matt was having his foot seen to.  He said the BCC brought out the worst in the Elite, made them do things they never thought they’d do.

Nick and Hangman insisted they remained the heart and soul of AEW.  And weren’t done yet.  ‘We’re still standing’ – as Matt unsuccessfully tried to stand.  That was amusing.  Maybe not the time for it?

The Dark Order interrupted to passive aggressively guilt trip Hangman.  Might have been my imagination, but it seemed you could hear the crowd die when they appeared.  If they insist on doing this angle, it needs to be done quickly.  Like in one show.  It’s damaging for Page.

Marvez asked Hangman about Omega.  Page confirmed he’s out of the country – hurt and pissed.  ‘But he’s not in Canada…’  Before rushing off after the DO.

Kenny’s recruiting…

Schiavone in the ring to intro Bullet Club Gold.  Nice pop for White.  Both put their arms round Tony like they were the best of friends.  Messing with him a la DX in ’97.  White said Starks must feel on top of the world after eliminating them from the Battle Royal.

But he didn’t win either.  ‘And that brings us to FTR’.  Since they saved Ricky.

They knew the champs were dumb but didn’t know they were dumb enough to get involved in Bullet Club business.  The tag champs took the bait, out immediately as Juice insisted they weren’t looking for a fight.  Especially since FTR must be here to apologize.  And maybe even join BCG.

All they had to do was ask, noted White.  ‘Just make sure you do it politely’.

Juice threw a cheap shot, Dax stayed down from it as they beat down Cash.  Before Juice pulled Dax up to hit Juice is Loose as White hit the Bladerunner on Cash.  A little too late, Ricky Starks ran them off.  Grabbing a mic to insist he and Jay settle things next Wednesday.

Really nice angle.  Brawl felt heated.  White’s so good on the mic.  I’m as biased as it gets but this already feels better than the previous tag title build.

It’s Wednesday, so Tony Khan has a major announcement: more info on the debut Collision.  Confirming it ‘will feature’ CM Punk.  So ticks ain’t movin’.

To confirm this, Excalibur pushed them immediately.

Seemed a mixed response to Punk again from the crowd.  Maybe slightly more cheers than boos.

Swerve Strickland vs Big Bill vs Trent Beretta

Backstory: None

Big Bill’s music sounds like it occupied as much thought as his name.  They really pushed that Strickland had ‘swerved’ Bill in the battle royal.  You know, the one that was every-man-for-himself for a title shot.

Then showed some highlights from that match as Strickland made his entrance.  The end with Cassidy vs Swerve was very, very good.

Sticking to his latest tactic, Strickland immediately left the ring to observe (obSwerve?  sorry…).  Trent didn’t allow him long out there, hitting a suicide dive then dragging him back in.

Where both smaller guys tried to work over Bill.  Who easily overpowered both, squashing them in opposite corners with running splashes then hitting a flapjack to Trent after dumping Swerve outside.  Really nice flurry.  The crowd responded as the ads arrived.

Trent and Swerve brawled on the apron, fighting in and out of moves until Trent pulled Swerve’s head in the path of a Big Bill boot.  Sending him off the apron.  Then knocked the big man out there too, coming off via moonsault to lay out Bill but get blasted by a Strickland kick from the apron.

Trent flung back inside, Swerve to the top, cut off by Bill, the big fella joining him up there.  Trent joined too, Bill had a double chokeslam ready but the others fought him off to launch a double-team superplex.  The crowd exploded again.

Should’ve done the ppv here.  Excalibur pushed Punk’s re-debut again.  And tickets.

As Trent flung Swerve outside via suplex, was snatched into a Bossman slam, Strickland broke up the pin at nearly three, bagged a close one of his own on Bill, hit Trent with a rolling flatliner, missed the Stomp, Trent hit a running knee strike, piledriver, Bill broke that up just in time.

Really enjoying this.

Bill and Trent to the apron, Beretta coming off worse on a chop exchange then being chokeslammed into the ring.  Swerve hit a Stomp to knock Bill off the apron and steal the pin on Trent.  The announcers pushed him as an opportunist who picks his moments.

This was very good.  Swerve for the International title?  Be a damn good choice.

Winner: Swerve Strickland

Backstage footage from Sunday of Kris Statlander with her newly won TBS title.  Very emotional, she’d wondered if she deserved the title but is going to prove herself and have the ‘best damn title reign anyone’s ever seen’.  Came across as very genuine and likeable.  This wasn’t a ‘promo’ so much as a real person talking.

*****

Renee brought the Acclaimed & Billy Gunn to the ramp.  Things didn’t go their way Sunday.  Gunn regrets letting down the other two.  Caster told him not to worry.  They’re a team.

They finally remembered they were screwed out of the tag team belts.  Bowens though said it was Gunn who deserved to ‘hold gold one more time’.  Oh no.  Enough with the Attitude Era wrestlers.

‘Everybody loves the Acclaimed!’.

This just didn’t seem to have a purpose.  Which is why the act feels so repetitive.

*****

Schiavone to the ring once more.  To bring out Don Callis & Konosuke Takeshita.  Thunderous boos for Callis.  Excalibur said the Elite had left the arena.

Callis ‘sincerely hope(d)’ the boos were for Kenny Omega.  Because Callis is the real victim.

As he was absolutely drowned in boos.  This made Christian seem like he gets no reaction.

He’d made Omega successful, but Kenny chose his friends instead.  He blames Omega for the scar on his head.

Still booing.

Callis ‘lost a nephew but gained a son’.  As he pointed to Takeshita.  The ‘best athlete I’ve ever seen in wrestling’.  Better than ‘Rikidozan, Inoki, Maeda, Muto and oh yeah… better than Okada’.  Omega too, he noted.

Takeshita cut an aggressive promo entirely in Japanese.  ‘Kenny Omega’ and ‘Elite’ the only discernable words.  Callis finished by saying Omega destroyed Callis’ family so he’s going to build a new one.

This crowd is AWESOME.  So much fun.

Wardlow and Arn Anderson package as they showed clips from Sunday’s match.  Going forward there are ‘no limits’ to what they’ll do.  If Luchasaurus wants some, Wardlow’ll be more than happy to finish the job.

Gates of Agony vs Darby Allin & Orange Cassidy

Backstory: None

The hot crowd left momentarily because the Gates of Agony barely appear on tv.  They quickly returned though as Darby’s music kicked in.

The Gates attacked immediately, one hit an overhead belly to belly to Orange in the ring as Darby took care of the other outside.  Before entering, his shoulder heavily taped after Sunday, the crowd chanting his name as he was absolutely run over by Toa.

In similar fashion, Allin then looked for a springboard Coffin Drop and was absolutely pounced out of his boots in mid-air.  As Swerve & co hit the ramp to watch.

‘Let’s go Darby’ chants as he struggled to his feet only to be absolutely crushed again by Toa via a body splash in the corner.  Escaping briefly, Allin slipped to the apron but was dragged off and battered into the barricades around ringside by Kaun (feels a bit overdone lately, seems most Dynamite matches contain this).

The beating continuing, Darby was hauled upstairs and backbreaker-ed across the turnbuckle.  As Cassidy was knocked off the apron.  The crowd again trying to raise Allin, who collapsed to the mat after being lifted to his feet.

A brief flurry saw him dive for the tag but get cut off, he got a boot up in the corner, looked for a sunset bomb, banged the heels together then bagged the tag to Cassidy.  Who ran through his pockets routine, ducking & dodging, forcing the partners to collide before bagging two after a tornado ddt.  His hand, back and knee taped.

Missing badly on an Orange Punch he was hit with a Samoan drop then a double-team palm thrust.  Tag to Allin, he hit splashes in the corner to both, Orange hit the Punch to Toa on the apron, Darby speared him off as Cassidy hit a stundog to Kaun, Allin hit an assisted code red then the Coffin Drop to win.

This was so AEW.  It was good action and the Gates looked impressive.  But no-one cared about them, they’re not featured and yet they absolutely annihilated one of Sunday’s contenders for the world championship.  And one who, judging by that finish, will be seeing Max again sooner or later.  Baffling.

Swerve and Cage then headed to the ring with evil intentions as Sting’s music played to a huge pop.  Bat in hand, he made the heels think better of any nefariousness.

Winner: Darby Allin & Orange Cassidy

AEW then remembered they had a world champion who’d retained his belt.  Cutting to MJF saying the clock is ticking.  He goaded Allin for losing to a headlock takeover.  There’s no competition.  AEW are running out of people who can beat him.

‘No-one is on the level… of the Devil’.

I get that this is presumably building to a New Japan guy challenging since there isn’t enough internal competition.  But the past two segments highlighted a distinct lack of focus and importance being placed on the title and its contenders.  We should not get 80 mins into a post-ppv show before we see the champ.

*****

The busy Schiavone again hit the ring.  And was interrupted by Hook’s music.  ‘What is next for Hook?’  Just as the youngster was about to respond, La Faccion Ingobernables (sans Rush) interrupted.  To complain about television time.

Jose had Preston Vance & Dralistico attack Hook.  Quickly bringing Jungle Boy to the rescue.  He smashed through the heels with a chair.  Then pushed Jose into a Hook suplex.  Perry and Hook exchanged a fist bump.  This was easily the best follow-up so far of any of the world title participants.  And yet still wasn’t close to good enough.

*****

Renee with the Outcasts and new champ Toni Storm.  Toni said it wasn’t luck that she’s champion, she’s wrestled since she was 13 – there’s no one good enough to compete with her (a heel champ who believes no-one’s good enough to compete.  Where’ve I heard that one before?).

Ruby fawned over Storm.  Toni said she’ll be defending the title regularly.  Saraya fawned over her too.  And didn’t say a single word about the main event she’s participating in later tonight.

Toni finished by saying the only ‘lucky’ people are ‘the AEW fans’ (because they get to see her).  Decent promo, just a little similar in content to MJF a couple segments back.

Kris Statlander vs Nyla Rose, TBS Title

Backstory: None

Getting Statlander a win on tv.  Sure.

But why does it have to be a title match?  All that does is make the outcome even more obvious for no gain.  Not a single person is buying this as a real championship match.  Nyla hasn’t won on tv in recent memory.

Right to a lockup, Nyla backed the champ to the corner, Statlander ducked a shot, hit a running dropkick, the two fought in and out of a bodyslam until Nyla landed one.  But missed a sit-down senton and was immediately wrapped in a body scissors.

Until getting the rope break.  Then ramming Statlander’s head into the buckle.  The two then fought around a suplex, both blocking several attempts until Rose again won out as Taya Valkyrie was shown watching.

Break.  It at least feels very different to all the other matches so far.  It’s slower with a focus on both powerful women battling to show their strength.

Statlander kipped up and was smashed back down via lariat, Nyla missed a splash, Kris hit a discus lariat, kick to the back of the head, running elbow in the corner, running knee too, sit-out powerbomb for two.

Nyla swept the leg, Statlander slipped outside but was pursued via cannonball off the apron then flung into the barricade (of course) and cannonballed against that too.  Then planted with a chokeslam after returning to the ring.  For two.

Statlander fought her off then hit a 450 to bag the win (very risky after two ACL tears).  Taya looked livid backstage (I HATE quick turns like this if it is one).

Winner: Kris Statlander

They finally previewed the main event for the first time all night.

Chris Jericho & Saraya vs Adam Cole & Britt Baker

Backstory: The heels demanded this after Britt destroyed both with a kendo stick & Cole beat Jericho defenseless

Actually thought this is where they were going for the ppv after the initial attack on Britt.

A good fifteen minutes’ tv time left as Jericho and Cole brawled to a start, the heel easily getting the better of it, leaving Cole down in the corner.  Before both went at it again with aggressive, stinging chops.

Jericho thumbed the eye right in front of the ref, threw another chop in the neutral corner but bailed to his own after Cole responded.  To tag Saraya, meaning Baker has to come in.  For some Britt on Brit violence, throwing shots to the face, hitting a slingblade, then stopping to draw ‘DMD’ in the air.

Allowing Jericho to trip her as she hit the ropes and leaving Saraya on top as the break beckoned.  A livid Cole was stopped by the ref from going after the Ocho.

The Outcasts attacked Britt on the ramp as the ref was dumb enough to leave his back turned but strong enough to keep Cole from getting to Jericho.  Shida’s kendo stick evened the odds as Britt bagged two via the most devastating move in wrestling – the Distraction Rollup.

They cut to a pic-in-pic simply to push Collision tickets.  Wow.

As Cole and Jericho brawled again.  Cole hit a pumpkick then an enziguri but telegraphed a dropkick, allowing Jericho to land the Lionsault for two.  The ladies back in as the crowd loudly chanted ‘Y2J’, Saraya slipped out of a neckbreaker then cut Britt off up top.  Baker shoved her off and was preparing a splash when Jericho flung his body atop his partner.  Britt hit the splash anyway.  Bagging her a close two.

The guys in, Cole hit a pumpkick and backstabber, Panama Sunrise ready, Jericho countered into the Walls, the crowd cheering loudly, Saraya knocked Baker off the apron.  As Cole struggled from the middle of the ring to the ropes, nearly there when he was dragged back center.  In the hold now for a good two minutes until Britt clasped the Lockjaw on the vet to a nice pop, quickly broken by Saraya.

The other three down, Cole readied a superkick but ran into a Codebreaker for another close call.  To their feet, yay/boo shots and strikes, both hit clotheslines simultaneously, leaving both to crawl and tag, Britt and Saraya exchanging a flurry, Saraya again blocked a neckbreaker, hit RamPaige, Britt just kicked out.

As Jericho entered the ring with Floyd: Britt ducked, Cole hit a superkick, he and Britt hit a superkick party, Baker tagged Cole, who rolled the pad down, hit the Boom, 1, 2, 3.

There are clearly big plans for Cole.  Who’s now decisively beaten Jericho twice.  Seemingly ending the feud.  But he got a mixed reaction here.  Boos at times.

Pretty fun tag.  Saraya looks like she’s still a bit rusty.  More tags are probably a good idea as she continues her return.

Winner: Adam Cole & Britt Baker

Next Rampage:

  • Willow Nightingale vs Emi Sakura (Maybe for the Strong title?  Excal was even faster than usual here)
  • Action Andretti vs Zack Sabre Jr.
  • Katsuyori Shibata (who has left New Japan) vs Lee Moriarty
  • Dralistico vs Komander vs Vikingo, AAA Mega Title

Next Dynamite:

  • Jay White vs Ricky Starks
  • Orange Cassidy vs Swerve Strickland, International Title

Thumbs Up/Down

  • Hot crowd gave the show a nice energy
  • Swerve vs Trent vs Big Bill
  • BCC vs Bros & Bandido
  • Proper explanation of Callis’ turn on Omega. Nuclear heat and a nice beginning of the build to Forbidden Door: Kenny’s in Japan, Okada’s name brought up by Callis.  Really like subtle storytelling like this.

 *****

  • Follow up for the Pillars? This was crucial and ranged from bewildering (Darby) to an afterthought (the champ, no less) to decent but not good enough (Perry) to nothing (Sammy)
  • No in-show build for the main event – Saraya even had promo time and didn’t mention it

Appreciate you reading.  Have a good week.

Carmella and Corey Graves reveal gender of baby on Tamron Hall

WWE Superstar Carmella and commentator Corey Graves revealed on today’s episode of Tampon Hall that they are expecting a baby boy.

The couple candidly discussed the challenges they faced on their pregnancy journey, including a miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy just over a month apart, and Carmella shared why it was so important for her to share her fertility struggles publicly.

“It was really important for me to share my story. When I had the first miscarriage, we dealt with it privately. I think only we knew, my parents and my sister, and that was it,” she said.

“I just felt like that’s what you do. People don’t talk about miscarriage, people don’t talk about the loss of their child. I didn’t know anyone that had a miscarriage. So, when it happened again, I thought well this is…it was the most isolating experience, I felt so alone, it was devastating,” Carmella continued.
