Raw rating for 07/27/2020

Monday Night Raw this week drew the second least-watched episode number, with an average of 1,616,000 viewers tuning in for a loaded show. That was 12,000 viewers down from last week and obviously not a good number considering what was on the card.

Hour one started with 1,699,000 viewers, then dropped slightly to 1,688,000 viewers for the second hour, before dropping off big time to 1,463,000 viewers for the third and final hour. The third hour number is the least-watched hour in the history of Monday Night Raw.

Raw was #3, #4, and #7 in the 18-49 demographic in the top 50 cable chart and #19 in overall viewership for the night on cable. (Ratings credit: Showbuzzdaily.com)

Ric Flair discusses his wife getting really sick from coronavirus

Speaking with Booker T on his Hall of Fame podcast, Ric Flair discussed the situation with his wife who was really sick with coronavirus for the past few weeks.

Flair said that Wendy is doing “much better” now although she’s not yet at 100% health-wise. He said that she contracted the virus three weeks ago and has been a nightmare ever since.

“She was real sick. I had to take her to the hospital twice,” Flair told Booker T. Wendy was released from hospital on both occasions after a couple of hours and one of the trips she required an IV.

Considering his age and past health problems, fans were obviously worried about The Nature Boy but Flair said that his living situation allowed for the two be apart from each other while still living under the same roof thanks to a huge house.

Flair has not appeared on WWE television for the past two weeks.

SummerSlam 2020 gets the first two matches

The first two matches for SummerSlam 2020 were made official last night on Monday Night Raw with the WWE title and Raw Tag Team titles up for grabs.

Randy Orton kicked off Raw last night and issued a challenge to Drew McIntyre for SummerSlam and vowed that he would take him down with an RKO. By the end of the night, and after McIntyre defeated Dolph Ziggler in the main event of the show, Randy Orton kept his promise and delivered his first attack, an RKO out of nowhere on the WWE champion.

Also, Andrade and Angel Garza won a triple threat tag team match against Cedric Alexander and Ricochet and The Viking Raiders to become the new #1 contenders for the Raw Tag Team titles. The two will now face Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins of The Street Profits.

Kairi Sane says goodbye to WWE fans

Kairi Sane has wrapped up her time in WWE and is now returning to Japan to be reunited with her husband. Her appearance on Raw last night where she was attacked by Bayley backstage was the last one for WWE.

Addressing fans on Twitter after Raw went off the air, Sane said that her time in NXT and WWE was incredible. “Everyone was kind, funny, & talented, so every day was full of happiness. Also, I was saved by the supportive staff behind the scenes,” Sane wrote.

She added that she will forever love and respect all the professionals she had the pleasure of working with and accomplished so much in the last three years. “It wasn’t because of my ability or my strength. It was because of all of the constant, warm support from the fans. I am so thankful I could meet you all. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Kairi concluded.

Sane joined WWE in 2017, winning the Mae Young Classic tournament and then went on to NXT to become the Women’s champion before joining the main roster. On the main roster, Sane found success tag teaming with Asuka where she won the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles twice.

Several fellow WWE Superstars have paid tribute to Sane and thanked her in Twitter messages.

Kairi Sane got married in Japan earlier this year where her husband still lives. She will now return to her homeland to start a proper family. There were talks that Sane would still be somewhat involved with WWE if the company opens its NXT Japan branch down the road.

Sasha Banks wins the Raw Women’s title from Asuka

There’s a new Raw Women’s champion in town and her name is Sasha Banks! The Legit Boss now matches her partner in crime Bayley with two title belts.

Banks beat Asuka yesterday on Raw via count out. Usually titles do not change on count out but the stipulation of this match was that a winner would be decided even via count out or disqualification.

Asuka got counted out because Bayley attacked Kairi Sane backstage and she went to rescue her friend, leaving Banks in the ring alone for the win.

This is Sasha’s eighth reign as a champion in WWE, winning the NXT Women’s title once, the Women’s Tag Team titles twice, and the Raw Women’s title five times.

Even though she won the Raw Women’s title on four other occasions, her record with the title is not really good and has only kept it for a combined 82 days over her four previous reigns. In fact, out of the eight different title holders of the Raw Women’s title, Sasha is sixth in terms of overall combined days, beating only Bayley and Nia Jax, both of whom have one title reign each.

Her four title reigns came by beating Charlotte three times and Alexa Bliss once. Banks’ first reign was in July 2016 when she beat Charlotte in Pittsburgh during an episode of Raw. That title reign was only 27 days. She then lost it to Charlotte at SummerSlam but won it back in October 2016 on an episode of Raw from Los Angeles, another reign that lasted 27 days. Losing it to Charlotte again at Hell In A Cell, Banks regained it in November 2016 during an episode of Raw from Charlotte in a falls count anywhere match. Her third reign ended after 20 days, losing it to Charlotte again at Roadblock in December 2016. Her final title reign came in August 2017 when she beat Alexa Bliss but she had the shortest reign with just eight days, losing it to Bliss again on Raw in Memphis.

Eva Marie returns to the world of professional wrestling…as a host!

Natalie Eva Marie, the former WWE Superstar known as “All Red Everything” is back in the wrestling business…but this time as a host of a new show about women wrestlers titled Faces and Heels.

The show will follow seven women on the independent wrestling scene as they try to follow their dreams in the squared circle. “I’m here to share with all of you the stories of seven women who make a living in the one of a kind world of professional wrestling,” she says as she introduces the show. The first episode will drop on Thursday, July 30, on her Facebook page.

Eva Marie worked for WWE between 2013 and 2017 and was part of the first ever Total Divas cast. She was wildly unpopular in the ring with fans and was eventually sent back to NXT for a year after her main roster debut. In August 2017 she announced that she had officially left WWE.

You can see the short trailer of the show below.

Triple H appears on Pat McAfee Show to discuss Adam Cole altercation

Triple H appeared live on the Pat McAfee show today to discuss Adam Cole’s altercation with McAfee from this past Thursday, an altercation which ended with Cole storming off the show and telling McAfee “f*ck off” multiple times.

Triple H said that he likes both Cole and McAfee and thinks they’re both very passionate about what they do and classified this as one huge misunderstanding. He said that it’s well known in WWE that Cole and McAfee had a “contentious relationship” behind the scenes.

HHH noted that Cole had asked for his permission to be on McAfee’s show and said to himself that he hopes “that goes well” knowing the history between the two. Triple H put over Cole as being one of the nicest guys in the world and thinks that McAfee was being a “professional button pusher” during the segment and Cole was a bit over-sensitive to what McAfee was saying.

Asked if the two spoke since then, Triple H said that he spoke with Adam but he didn’t ask him to put out an apology or anything, saying he’s a grown man and responsible for his actions. Triple H pointed out that Cole apologized regardless.

Triple H told McAfee that some people backstage see him as somewhat of an enemy because he’s not part of the business, yet, he keeps attacking the people working there. He said that Cole is a human being and had a bad day last week. “There were moments where he gets agitated and you kept your foot on the gas,” Triple H said. “I feel like I’m talking to my kids right now!”

McAfee acknowledged that he “poked the bear” more than he thought after he rewatched the whole interview. “Did you fine him?” McAfee asked Triple H. “With all due respect, that’s not something I would discuss on here with you,” Triple H responded.

Triple H said that Cole made a mistake and reached out to apologize and he hopes that McAfee reciprocates and invited McAfee to sit down with Cole in a room and be honest with each other. McAfee said he needs to figure out how this can go down and Triple H invited him on NXT to promote his show and said if they want to do it on camera, great, and if they want to do it in a room just the two alone without any publicity, that’s great as well.

Adam Cole apologizes for his behavior on the Pat McAfee Show

Former NXT champion Adam Cole apologized for his words and actions following an expletive-laden segment on the Pat McAfee Show where he told the host and frequent WWE collaborator to “f*ck off” repeatedly in a heated segment.

McAfee was pressing Cole’s wrong buttons during the appearance and Cole had enough and flipped.

“I’ve had the weekend to think about everything, and it’s still hard to put into words where to begin,” Cole said. “First of all, to anyone that I offended, I apologize. I apologize because I represent a brand that commands respect. Not just because of what we do in the ring, but how we handle ourselves outside the ring.”

Cole acknowledged that even though McAfee kept pushing, he should have kept his composure and acted like a professional.

“I’m embarrassed by my reaction, and I will make sure something like that never happens again. Thanks for the continued support everyone,” Cole added.

Mysterio’s son Dominik to confront Seth Rollins tonight on a loaded Raw

With Rey Mysterio still not signed to a new deal and “recovering” from the eye for an eye match, his son Dominik will be on Monday Night Raw tonight and will be confronting Seth Rollins.

Mysterio has often said that his future employment with WWE rests on the company offering some kind of deal to his son as well and it looks like that is likely going to happen. Dominik is following his father’s footsteps in becoming a professional wrestler and has been training for quite a while now.

Raw tonight is loaded as well with a triple threat tag team match between The Viking Raiders, Alexander and Ricochet, and Garza and Andrade with the winners earning a Raw Tag Team title shot at SummerSlam, the Ziggler vs McIntyre non-title match with a stipulation still to be announced, Randy Orton addressing fans at the start of the show, and the highly anticipated Asuka vs Sasha Banks match for the Raw Women’s title.

Ranking the best wrestling stars turned MMA fighters

Back in 1994, Dan Severn blazed a major trail as the first mainstream MMA star to go and try his hand in professional wrestling.

For every wrestler who has gone on to enjoy success in the Octagon, there are those who have failed to flourish in the UFC and other promotions – and have the bruises to prove it.

So let’s take a look at the records of the major wrestling stars who have tried their luck in MMA, and see who is the best WWE superstar turned martial artist extraordinaire.

CM Punk (Phillip Jack Brooks)

A hugely respected wrestling technician, when CM Punk left the WWE after various disputes with Vince McMahon he went away and reinvented himself as Phillip Jack Brooks, the MMA hopeful.

The president of the UFC, Dana White, sensed an opportunity and let Brooks sign up for his promotion, where he made his debut in September 2016. Unfortunately, ‘Punk’ lost to Mickey Gall, and less than a year later he lost on a decision to Mike Jackson.

Standing 0-2, Brooks hasn’t returned to the Octagon since.

Dave Bautista

He is the only wrestler with a 100% win record in MMA.

Okay, so Dave Bautista only had one mixed martial arts bout, but he made it work by KO’ing Vince Lucero in the first round of their Classic Entertainment and Sports contest.

Now he’s in Hollywood, it’s unlikely that ‘Batista’ will be returning to the Octagon anytime soon.

Bobby Lashley

Much respected by the WWE hierarchy – hence his continued run as a championship contender to Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley could have gone on to great things in MMA.

His record stands at a fantastic 15-2, and his versatility as a fighter saw him win bouts both with ferocious striking and technical grappling abilities.

If Lashley had made the move from Bellator to UFC, he could have gone on to even greater things.

Ken Shamrock

Other than Dan Severn, no contemporary former WWE star has won more MMA bouts than Ken Shamrock.

The ‘World’s Most Dangerous Man’, former WWE Intercontinental champion and 1998 King of the Ring has fought all over the world, capturing the inaugural UFC heavyweight belt and becoming the King of Pancrase in Japan.

Brock Lesnar

In the end, Brock Lesnar became something of a joke WWE champion, dusting himself off for the occasional taping of RAW and the odd PPV while his stablemates busted their backs carrying the franchise around the world.

But Lesnar’s MMA chops cannot be questioned. He’s beaten Randy Couture and Frank Mir in the UFC, winning heavyweight gold, and so his in-ring persona as a tough nut is legitimate.

Still on the books at WWE HQ, Lesnar has not appeared for a while and his six-year run of headlining Summerslam is in jeopardy.

Ronda Rousey

Vince McMahon brought Ronda Rousey purely because of how bad ass she was in the UFC.

Rowdy went 12-0 through her early days in independent promotions to the UFC, beating some tough cookies along the way in Miesha Tate and Bethe Correia.

After a couple of heavy defeats, Rousey decided that wrestling was where her future lay, and she became the second-longest reigning women’s champion in history, while breaking new ground as one of the first females to headline Wrestlemania.

And to the Future

So who will be the next to step out of the Octagon and into the ring as a WWE superstar?

Fans would love nothing more than to see brawlers like Jorge Masvidal and Francis Ngannou join RAW or Smackdown, although both of those men still have unfinished business in the fight game. Both are in the mix for titles, and both feature heavily on the leading MMA betting sites whenever they announce a fight – more often than not, they are the bookies’ favorites too. It will be a while before they hang up their gloves.

Others have already started to cross the divide. Jessamyn Duke, a former UFC and Invicta fighter, is climbing through the ranks of NXT, while Cain Velasquez – conqueror of Lesnar in the Octagon – has made his WWE debut already. His contract has since been rescinded, but the door has not been closed on his return.

In the past it has been reported that former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion Georges St Pierre has been approached to join the WWE’s training center, while nobody would be surprised to see Conor McGregor talking trash on the mic in the near future.

The synergy between MMA and the WWE continues to be fruitful, and with McMahon keen to address falling ratings don’t be surprised if more UFC megastars make their way into the squared circle soon.

McIntyre vs Ziggler switched to a non-title match

Tonight’s match between Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler will be a non-title one, a u-turn from the previous announcement.

Apart from that, the champion this time is choosing the stipulation and combining it with the fact that it is a non-title match, this whole thing ends up making zero sense with the challenger having nothing to gain.

The non-title match change was announced on WWE.COM where it said that McIntyre “agreed” to face Ziggler. McIntyre will announce the match stipulation before the match.

Sasha Banks tweet may have inadvertently spoiled result of her taped title match against Asuka

Did Sasha Banks spoil the result of her title match against Asuka from tomorrow’s Raw?

Eagle-eyed viewers pointed out that a tweet Sasha posted yesterday posing with both the WWE Women’s Tag Team and the Raw Women’s titles shows that the Raw Women’s title has the Banks side plates, and not the Asuka ones as before.

Banks has been parading around with the Raw Women’s title ever since her match at Extreme Rules ended even though she did not technically win the title on that day. But Sasha is now getting her rematch tomorrow night on Raw, a match which has already been taped as tomorrow’s Raw was taped this past Monday.

The tweet Sasha posted says, “Getting HANDED a title does not make you a Champion…. taking it does,” tagging Asuka and also using the hashtags #ScrewYouBecky, #ThankYouVince, #SmackDown, and #RAW.

Accompanying the text was a new photo of Sasha laughing with the Women’s Tag Team title around her waist and the Raw Women’s title with her Legit Boss side plates on her shoulder.

Why is pro wrestling booming in the betting market?

Sports betting has recently seen a major expansion in the betting market over the past few years. With the betting bids now taking part in a legalized market, this has helped the pro wrestling scene as well and benefited them extremely. The WWE, for example, has been able to gross a pair of television deals worth a massive $2 billion.

But things have not always been quite so rosy between the pro wrestling scene and the betting market. Not long ago a few bookmakers started taking wagers on professional wrestling and created quite the buzz with sports bettors. Mike Tyson’s confrontation with Steve Austin or WWE’s  Ronda Rousey infused the addition of pro wrestling wagers and became a hot topic. Questions were laid upon the legitimacy of betting on something like the WWE which is quite scripted. However, there are some of the WWE industries that believe there is a potential in betting in the wrestling scene in spite of scripted finishes. The WWE grosses in tons of dollars between January and April each year as the famous Road to WrestleMania takes place during this time around.

Several online betting sites and bookers have been accepting bets on pro wrestlers and recently insiders have seen the betting trend on pro wrestling increase similarly to the betting world on MMA or Boxing. Several enthusiasts who have been studying this scene for years have reflected that people can make tons of money out of betting in this sport but you need to be smart and know the people and the industry.

The popularity of pro wrestling: An overview

With all that being said, let’s understand why the pro wrestling betting scene is garnering so much attention now. The WWE fan base is massive and there’s no doubt about it but it is scripted and there are very few people who know the outcome of every match and they guard all that information with their lives. For this reason, several online sportsbooks allow fans to bet on the outcomes of these major events. Mostly these online sites allow you to bet on a season-long winner or a winner of any particular match and these sites give some extra mullah to new players that give them more attention in return. But it gets furthermore interesting with the fact that now some of these people who already know the outcome of these scripted matches spill out the beans and thus as a result of the leakage there’s plenty of opportunities for more and more bettors to get a lot of money in the bank. However, there is a limit set for the patrons on the amount they can bet up to but think about it from the perspective of a recreational player. It’s surely quite a lot of money for them.

There is a definite strategy involved in betting on the WWE event and there’s quite a lot of brainstorming to do when you are betting on these events and this makes prospective bettors furthermore interested. For someone who has been studying these scripted matches could make tons of money betting on these events. All you have to do is study the writers who have been staging these matches. These writers have a certain preference pattern towards certain wrestlers and if you can determine who they would stage up to win an event or a matchup then you are almost through to getting some dollars in your bank account. All these writers want to do is create an exciting show, so all you have to do as a bettor is formulate a game plan according to their storyline.

The sportsbooks have just as much clue as to who is going to win an event just like we do and therefore, they set their booking lines in that manner. They do their best to go through insider newsletters or future booking plans when setting their lines. As we dive into this more and more, we see that the old days of pro wrestling, where the results were well protected like a dirty secret, has been replaced by sophisticated storylines and a new arrangement of the WWE network and the die-hard confused fans are willing to bet their cash on decided outcomes that are being influenced by insiders money.

Speaking aside from the profit you can harvest from betting on the WWE there is still the question of risk. Nevertheless, the risk is very limited. As mentioned earlier sportsbooks limit the amount of action that they are willing to take on the WWE and thus the amount of money that anyone is physically capable of losing is also limited.

Summing up

To sum it all up the WWE fanbase is massive and the option of betting on these events gives the die-hard fans the chance of making some extra cash.

WWE Superstar Angel Garza marries Zaide Lozano

WWE Superstar Angel Garza tied the knot with Zaide Lozano in Orlando, Florida, a couple of days ago.

Garza proposed to Lozano in the middle of the ring in December during an episode of NXT after winning the Cruiserweight title. She also appeared on an April episode of Raw when she posed as a photographer and received a kiss from Garza during his entrance.

“JUST MARRIED! YES, yes for life! I love you,” Lozano wrote in a post on Instagram.

Lozano is a TV host on Mexican television as well as an interviewer for Monterrey football club.

WWE mourns the loss of legendary TV host Regis Philbin

WWE has joined the rest of the television industry in mourning after Regis Philbin passed away yesterday at the age of 88.

Philbin has welcomed numerous WWE guests on his morning show Live with Regis and Kathie Lee along the years, including John Cena, Steve Austin, Macho Man, Ultimate Warrior, Yokozuna and others.

At WrestleMania VII, Philbin was roaming the backstage areas for interviews on the pay-per-view and did commentary for the main event as well. He last appeared on WWE television during the Raw 1000 episode sending a video message.

Smackdown rating for 07/24/2020

Friday Night Smackdown on FOX did 1,970,000 in the ratings last night although that number could be slightly misleading as there was a market which aired MLB instead and aired Smackdown at the 11PM time slot. How that affects the final number will be determined on Tuesday when the final rating is published.

Smackdown had 1,985,000 viewers in the first hour and 1,956,000 viewers in the second hour and for now had 77,000 viewers more than last week. As always, in terms of viewership, Smackdown placed last but took #1 in the 18-49 demo with a 0.5 rating and was second in 18-34. (Ratings credit: Showbuzzdaily.com)

WWE trademarks NXT UK Heritage Cup name

On July 20, WWE applied to trademark the NXT UK Heritage Cup name with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The application was processed on July 23 with the only entry being “Entertainment services, namely, a show about professional wrestling” and its distribution.

The name sounds like a tournament of some sort that will be held in NXT UK once the brand resumes television tapings. NXT UK has not had new content since March due to the coronavirus pandemic as most of the people in charge of running the show are located in the United States. The United Kingdom was also hit hard with COVID-19 and businesses only started reopening this month.

The strategies for winning in mobile slots are the same as the ones in online slots. For new players, it’s best to start by playing the free demo versions as they’ll allow you to get familiar with the rules and other features of the slot. Also, these games are fun to play and will provide you with a perfect opportunity to try the games as you decide whether to play on mobile or not.
