The status of WWE as an Esport

There’s no doubt esports are here to stay. With millions of fans worldwide, certain video games have become a matter of finesse, mental discipline and endurance, much like traditional sports. Even though the esports arena is dominated by proposals such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, more esports based on traditional sports like football, baseball or rugby, to name a few, are gaining popularity.

You can check the popularity of esports and how the betting market around them evolves. For instance, if you browse Betway you can see how many different bet types, teams and leagues are for specific disciplines. Though football and others enjoy success, is this the case with wrestling? This article analyses the situation.

WWE: A major entertainment hub

Even though wrestling is a sport, it goes far beyond that. Let’s take the WWE as the best example of this. Even checking their website, they call themselves an “integrated media organisation and recognised leader in global entertainment.” This means the organisation’s primary goal is to entertain people. They do this successfully in many ways. For instance, they offer more than 530 yearly events in the US and worldwide.

As a major licensing company, they have live TV shows and create superstars that go on to act or perform music. You can find WWE products at all major retailers. Naturally, they also have high stakes in the esports world. For instance, the WWE and major gaming outlet, IGN, created the WWE x Esports Showdown in 2017. They also partnered with Riot Games for a WWE-based League of Legends showdown.

Esports? Maybe yes, maybe no

Even though it’s clear that the WWE (and wrestling in general) are top candidates for becoming esports somehow, this idea has some issues. The first one is technological. According to 2K Games, WWE 2K22 isn’t ready for primetime as an esport title.

This is mainly because of the character’s strengths and weaknesses, which somehow favour the victory. For instance, there’s no escape from certain moves. Since success in esports should be determined by the player’s skill only, and there should be equal opportunities for everyone to win, this is a complicated situation for this title.

The crux of the issue

When it comes to wagering, the real-life WWE isn’t suitable, so it’s anyone’s guess if its virtual incarnation will ever be. An idea to counter all this is offering a mode where wrestlers could be balanced. The problem with this is it attempts to reach the core of WWE: the characters and their stories. Still, because of the wrestler’s interactions, a scoring system such as what happens in boxing, is difficult.

And there lies the crux of the issue. Because WWE is all about the different participant’s charisma, what’s left when you leave this feature out of the equation? Perhaps not much since esport players are a different persona from the WWE characters they’d be representing.

As it stands today, it doesn’t look like WWE-based video games will become esports any time soon. If it does, it will lack some fundamental features that make the WWE what it is: a form of entertainment based on the participant’s personalities.

Jackie Redmond tried to interview Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins and when she asked if Sami was going to be ready to go, they both tried to answer at the same time and Cody told Seth to handle the interview and he would see him out there. Shinsuke Nakamura came in and told Seth if he needed help, he would be his partner and Seth told Shinsuke he has had respect for him for a long time so let’s ride baby! Shinsuke stood there and smiled.

The Miz is out for MizTv, and he says he was taught respect and met the wrestlers in the locker room and L.A. Knight did not shake his hand. Knight comes out. Knight said he thought they had a great introduction at the battle royal at SummerSlam and then he said let me introduce myself with everybody saying L.A. Knight. He then tried to shake Miz’s hand and Miz refused then blamed him for stealing his spotlight. Knight says he does not have a problem with him, and he does not want to make this personal. Miz then went on a rant about being a two-time grand slam champion and asked Knight what he has been doing for the past 20 years and Knight said he has been doing everything he could from the outside looking in while this company was betting on all the wrong horses like him.

The Miz told Knight he isn’t on his level and Knight told him to prove him wrong. Miz went to pick up his jacket and Knight started laughing and Miz attacked Knight and went for the Skull Crushing Finale and Knight reversed it to hit his BFT.

As Cody and Sami are still on their ropes, Seth gets down and immediately gets hit with a Kinshasa from Nakamura. Nakamura then slides out of the ring and walks out which leaves Cody and Sami yelling at him and then checking on Seth. Nakamura just continued to walk to the back without turning around.

Ronda Rousey: “I got no reason to stay”

In a post on Instagram, former Raw and Smackdown Women’s champion Ronda Rousey said she has “no reason to stay” following her match against Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam.

Addressing Baszler, Ronda wrote, “You were the reason I got into this business… Now I got no reason to stay,” accompanied by several photos from Saturday night at Ford Field.

Unfortunately for Rousey and Baszler, their MMA Rules match did not go over very well with the live crowd – or even TV viewers for that matter. In the match, Rousey got choked out by Baszler’s Kirifuda Clutch and the former NXT Women’s champion was declared the winner.

It is believed that the match was the last one for Rousey under this deal and she is departing the company for the foreseeable future. Ronda had a three-year break from WWE before returning for round two at the 2022 Royal Rumble.

Nick Aldis at Raw to start producer tryout

PWInsider.com is reporting that Nick Aldis is at Monday Night Raw in Minneapolis to start his producer role tryout and he will also be at more television tapings moving forward.

Aldis has never worked for WWE in any capacity so this will be his first time there. The 36-year-old is married to former WWE Women’s champion Mickie James.

He just ended a short run with Impact Wrestling, with his last match coming at Slammiversary last month losing to Alex Shelley. Prior to that, Aldis worked for Billy Corgan’s NWA but that ended on a bad note and Corgan eventually suspended him just after Aldis noted that he was leaving the promotion.

AJ “Lee” Mendez leaving Women of Wrestling (WOW)

AJ Mendez’s contract with Women of Wrestling is coming to an end and the former WWE Divas champion said her goodbye in a post on social media.

Mendez has been working for WOW as a commentator while also serving as executive producer. Her arrival was announced in October 2021 when WOW signed a distribution agreement with ViacomCBS.

“As my season-long contract with @WOWSuperheroes winds down, I wanna thank the ladies for welcoming me into their locker room, our hair and makeup talk sessions and constantly inspiring me with their hard work, talent, and genuine camaraderie,” Mendez wrote. “I’ll try to come back and play sometime in the future! I hope all you fans keep watching next season to support these incredible athletes and stars of tomorrow.”

She is currently featured in the second season of Heels on STARZ where she joined her husband CM Punk in a recurring role playing the character of Elle Dorado.

How to make better sports betting decisions: an expert’s guide for smarter wagers

Navigating the world of sports betting can often feel like walking through a maze. It’s a complex landscape filled with jargon, statistics, and overwhelming choices. The key to making better sports betting decisions lies in understanding the game and developing a strong betting strategy.

Developing a solid foundation is crucial for any bettor looking to make wise decisions. This includes understanding the basics, such as types of bets, odds formats, and how bookmakers operate. Successful bettors don’t rely solely on luck; they’re consistently analyzing data and making informed predictions.

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to the game, there’s always room for improvement in sports betting strategies. With careful planning and consideration, you can increase your chances of success and take your betting game to new heights.

Use Betting Calculators

When it comes to making better sports betting decisions, one tool that should be noticed is the betting calculator. This handy device can be a game changer in understanding potential outcomes and calculating potential profits.

Betting calculators consider the odds of a particular bet, the amount wagered, and different types of bets (like single or multiple). They’re designed to give you an instant snapshot of your winnings based on different scenarios.

Using these calculators has several benefits:

* It helps determine potential returns from various types of bets.

* It aids in comparing odds from different bookmakers.

* It’s useful for managing your betting budget effectively.

Below are some popular types of betting calculators:

  1. Odds Calculator: This calculates potential winnings based on the odds provided by bookmakers.
  2. Hedging Calculator: It’s used when you need to lock in a profit regardless of the outcome.
  3. Arbitrage Calculator: This calculator gives you a strategy to profit from differences in odds offered by bookmakers.

Remember, using a betting calculator like this one isn’t about guaranteeing wins; it’s about equipping yourself with knowledge and making informed decisions. If used correctly and consistently, they can be extremely beneficial tools for any sports bettor looking to improve their strategies over time.

Utilize Betting Communities and Forums

When it comes to making better sports betting decisions, leveraging the power of betting communities and forums can’t be overstated. These platforms offer a wealth of information bettors can use to make more informed decisions.

Firstly, they’re excellent places for gaining insights into how others perceive specific games or players. Many participants in these online communities are seasoned bettors who share their strategies, thus providing you with different perspectives on upcoming events.

Secondly, these forums often contain threads where users discuss recent trends in sports betting. They’ll talk about what’s working for them, which teams are being underestimated by bookmakers, and which odds may be too good to pass up. This type of real-time information is invaluable when placing your bets.

Lastly, many betting forums host sections dedicated to statistics and analytics.

However, while these platforms can provide valuable insights, it’s crucial not to follow the advice given here mindlessly. Always remember to do your research before placing a bet.

To maximize the benefits of betting communities:

* Engage actively – ask questions and participate in discussions.

* Cross-verify any tips or advice you receive.

* Avoid getting carried away by the hype around certain bets.

By effectively utilizing betting communities and forums as tools rather than gospel truth guides, you’re setting yourself up for smarter decision-making in sports betting.

Compare Odds

Diving into the world of sports betting, it’s essential to master the art of comparing odds. It’s not just about picking a winner; it’s about finding the best value for your bet. This section unfolds the importance and methods of comparing odds in sports betting.

Comparing odds across different bookmakers provides an edge in this competitive field. Punters gain valuable insight into where they’re likely to get the best return on investment. This practice is commonly referred to as ‘odds shopping.’

Here’s why comparing odds matters:

– Maximize Potential Winnings: Higher odds mean higher potential winnings. If Bookmaker A offers 2:1 and Bookmaker B offers 3:1 on the same event, you’d win more by placing your bet with Bookmaker B.

– Manage Risk: Lower odds usually indicate a higher probability of winning. So, if you’re risk-averse, you might prefer a bookmaker offering lower odds.

But how does one compare these ever-changing numbers? Here are some steps:

  1. Identify Your Bet: Know what you’re betting on – whether it’s a particular team winning, total points scored, or some other variable.
  2. Check Multiple Sources: Don’t rely on just one bookie; check several.
  3. Use Comparison Tools: Online tools that compare odds from various sources side-by-side are available.

Remember that timing is crucial when comparing odds, as they can change rapidly based on factors like team news, weather conditions, or market sentiment.

Lastly, don’t let loyalty blind your decision-making process. Even if you’ve been using one bookie for years, there could be better opportunities elsewhere – so keep your options open!

Bet Responsibly

A key aspect of making better sports betting decisions is the ability to bet responsibly. This doesn’t just mean placing bets within one’s financial means, but it also encompasses understanding the risks involved and knowing when to stop.

It’s important to remember that betting should be viewed as a form of entertainment rather than a way to make quick money. The unpredictability of sports events means there’s always a risk involved, so one must be prepared for all possible outcomes. Here are some guidelines to follow for responsible betting:

– Set limits: Before starting any betting activity, it’s crucial to set a budget. This will prevent overspending and keep your finances in check. Stick strictly to this budget no matter what happens.

– Understand the odds: The odds reflect the likelihood of an event happening. Higher odds mean less chance of winning but higher potential payouts, while lower odds indicate a greater chance of winning but smaller payouts.

– Avoid chasing losses: If you’re on a losing streak, don’t be tempted to place bigger bets to recover your losses quickly. It often leads down a dangerous path.

– Take regular breaks: Betting can become addictive if you’re not careful. Frequent breaks help maintain perspective and avoid impulsive decisions.

In conclusion, responsible betting hinges on self-control, knowledge about the game, and acknowledging that loss is part of the process.

Kairi taking “indefinite hiatus” from Japan, cites unhappiness with IWGP Women’s title run

In a press conference earlier today in Japan, Kairi said that she will take an “indefinite hiatus” at the end of September in preparation for a new adventure.

The Pirate Princess mentioned losing the IWGP Women’s title earlier this year as one of the reasons she took this decision. Kairi lost the title to Mercedes Mone at an NJPW show in February.

Speaking about the IWGP Women’s title, Kairi said that she thought winning that title and raising its value would have been her last mission in wrestling and was ready to announce her retirement when she lost it.

“Unfortunately, contrary to my wish, I was able to defend the belt only once,” Kairi said.

Kairi did not officially announce that she is going back to WWE as she did mention that she couldn’t say clearly what her new adventure is but called it a positive decision for her. The former NXT Women’s champion signed a new WWE deal recently and will return to the company after a departing the United States in 2020.

She still have a couple of dates in Japan that she is honoring but after that, she’s packing up her bags and moving back to the U.S.

After leaving her WWE ambassadorial job in 2022, she returned to STARDOM and resumed her in-ring wrestling career.

Paul Heyman says The Bloodline storyline is still “at the bottom of the third”

Paul Heyman declared during the post-show SummerSlam press conference that The Bloodline storyline is “at the bottom of the third,” using a baseball reference after he was asked where the storyline is in terms of timeline.

A baseball match has nine innings, suggesting that this has not even crossed the half way line yet.

The storyline had another major twist yesterday at SummerSlam when Jimmy Uso returned under a hoodie and prevented his twin brother Jey from winning the Undisputed WWE Universal title and the tribal chiefdom. He pulled Jey out of the ring when he was covering Roman and then hit him with a superkick. Jimmy had been out of action since the July 7 episode of Smackdown.

The match ended when Jimmy threw Jey back in the ring and Reigns then speared Jey through a table set up in the corner.

Just minutes earlier, Roman speared Solo Sikoa by mistake after Jey moved out of the way. Solo showed up towards the final moments of the match to help Roman overcome his brother.

In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, the brothers were asked what would be their dream match and both replied a one-on-one match against each other at WrestleMania.

During the same press conference, Heyman credited The Bloodline storyline for an uptick in WWE’s business and ratings. Triple H later acknowledged the group but added it’s a collective effort from everyone involved in the company.

IYO SKY writes about her difficulty and journey to become the “best in the world”

Following her MITB briefcase cash-in, new WWE Women’s champion IYO SKY took to social media to address her journey to the top of the mountain.

She said in order to be the “best in the world” she had to leave her home country and “best in Japan” title and travel to America. She admitted that when she moved to the United States, she thought she was mentally and physically stronger than anyone else but reality hit and was instantly “knocked down.”

SKY wrote that she tried to say she can’t do it anymore multiple times but each time she remembered those who helped her and cheered her along the way and hung around.

“Being number one in the world was my dream, but it is definitely thanks to everyone that I was able to make it come true,” SKY wrote. “Everyone in Japan, everyone in America, everyone in the world, thank you so much.”

Her message was retweeted on social media by fellow Japanese Kairi Sane, who is returning to the United States following agreeing a new deal with WWE.

Brock Lesnar and Cody Rhodes share special post-match moment in the ring

The Beast Incarnate and The American Nightmare shared a special moment in the ring following their third encounter, a match which Cody won after three Cross Rhodes.

Brock stayed in the ring, removed his gloves, went face-to-face with Cody and offered to shake his hand. After a big handshake, Brock followed with an ever bigger hug and then raised Cody’s hands to all four sides of the ring.

In the post-show press conference, Rhodes was asked about that moment that he shared with Brock.

“I don’t think it’s dawned on me what a moment like that really means,” Cody replied. “That will be something that I look at and have a deep, deep appreciation at.”

Cody said that Brock has given him more German duplexes, more F5s and obliterated him more than anyone else but thinks that was a “bond by battle” moment.

“I’m very grateful for what happened. I don’t want to wrestle Brock Lesnar again, but I’m grateful that I had the opportunity,” he continued.

Cody put over Brock Lesnar and labeled him as a “unique once in a lifetime individual” and that when he’s gone, the world will realize what a talent he is.

Cody said the moment reminded him of how his father Dusty looked at Harley Race.

“And I thought, you know, maybe I got my Harley Race. There’s nobody tougher than Brock Lesnar,” he concluded.

Later in the press conference, Paul “Triple H” Levesque confirmed that what Brock did was not part of the script.

A good night for the Paul brothers, Logan makes it to Dallas after SummerSlam in time!

The Paul brothers – Logan and Jake – had a very successful Saturday night as both won their respective matches: Logan defeated Ricochet in the opening match of the SummerSlam card and Jake then defeated Nate Diaz in a boxing match which aired on PPV opposite SummerSlam.

Logan had requested that he starts the show so he could fly to Dallas via a private jet to try and make it on time to be with his brother for the walkout. It was a very tough thing to accomplish time-wise as the flight was around 2 hours and 45 minutes, but it did eventually happen as Logan showed up just in time.

Logan was rushed out of Ford Field to a nearby airport and without a shirt and with his elbow pads still on, he sprinted to a waiting jet. He walked out with his brother, got into a scuffle with a fan at ringside during the boxing match, and then celebrated with his brother after his win in the ring…all while still in his full SummerSlam gear.

Jake defeated Nate Diaz via a unanimous decision 97-92, 98-91, 98-91.

Jim Ross returns to commentary on Collision after nearly two months out

Jim Ross returned to his commentary duties on Collision yesterday, joining Nigel McGuinness and Ian Riccaboni before the main event between CM Punk and Ricky Starks started.

Ross has been absent from AEW television since the first episode of Collision to recover from some health issues. Ross fell on the day of the Collision premiere but still made it to Chicago and had a rough night where he was criticized by fans for his performance.

The WWE Hall of Famer acknowledged he was off and apologized on social media and took himself out of the equation to heal.

JR was hoping to be back in time for All In to hopefully call some matches on that show.

Samoa Joe and FTR call out potential opponents for All In

Two more matches were hinted for AEW’s All In pay-per-view during Collision last night.

ROH TV champion Samoa Joe called out CM Punk for another match at Wembley Stadium following their one-on-one encounter last month during the Owen Hart Cup tournament semi final. Punk won that match and afterward, Joe was going to shake Punk’s hands but attacked him instead. The two have quite a history together from their Ring of Honor days.

Meanwhile, FTR challenged The Young Bucks to meet them in London for their third AEW match. They are at 1-1 at the moment, with The Young Bucks winning their first match in 2020 and FTR winning the second match in 2022.

So far there is only one official match on the All In card and that’s MJF vs Adam Cole for the AEW World title.

WWE says 59,194 attended SummerSlam at Ford Field

The SummerSlam attendance at Ford Field given by WWE during the show was of 59,194.

According to ticket tracking service @WrestleTix, Ford Field was set up for just over 52,000 tickets and there were 51,477 tickets distributed at last count before the show started.

Last year WWE gave an inflated attendance number of 48,449 for SummerSlam at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

But taking out SummerSlam 92, this was the most-attended SummerSlam in history and the highest-grossing non-WrestleMania event in history. Due to Peacock being in more homes than ever, it’s also the most-watched SummerSlam ever.

The benefits of CBDA edibles for a holistic approach

Cannabidiolic acid or CBDA, a lesser-known compound found in cannabis, has recently piqued the interest of researchers and holistic health practitioners. Unlike CBD, it’s a raw compound that does not undergo the decarboxylation process. CBDA edibles are gaining popularity as an alternative, natural health supplement, offering an array of potential benefits. This article provides an insightful look into the benefits of CBDA edibles for a holistic health approach, exploring its potential in promoting balance and wellness in a natural, unprocessed form.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties

CBDA has shown the potential in exerting anti-inflammatory effects, making it a promising option for those dealing with chronic inflammation. Studies have found that CBDA may be more effective in reducing inflammation than CBD, its decarboxylated form. Consuming CBDA edibles is one way to reap its anti-inflammatory properties and help reduce pain or discomfort due to inflammation. Furthermore, knowing where to purchase it and what to look for will also matter. You could find these products anywhere from online stores like Natural Dos to brick-and-mortar shops like health food stores, nutrition centers, and pharmacies. Most importantly, look for organic and pesticide-free CBDA edibles.

Antiemetic Effects

Beyond their anti-inflammatory properties, CBDA edibles also exhibit significant antiemetic effects, which can be advantageous for individuals struggling with nausea and vomiting, conditions often associated with chemotherapy and other medical treatments. In fact, research suggests that CBDA may be even more potent than CBD in curbing these symptoms. The advantage of edible form is the convenience and discretion it affords, allowing individuals to easily incorporate CBDA into their daily routine. Thus, for those seeking a holistic approach to managing nausea or vomiting, CBDA edibles present a promising, natural alternative. However, as with any supplement, it is recommended to consult with a healthcare professional before starting a CBDA regimen, to ensure it is suitable for your specific health needs and conditions.

Potential Anticancer Properties

The potential anticancer properties of CBDA are another area of interest for researchers and holistic health practitioners. Preliminary studies suggest that CBDA may inhibit the migration of breast cancer cells, thus potentially playing a role in cancer prevention. CBDA edibles, therefore, could represent a promising avenue for those seeking a holistic approach to cancer prevention or supplementation to their ongoing treatment. To put this into context, it’s important to note that the research is still in the early stages, and more comprehensive studies are needed to fully understand the potential anticancer effects of CBDA. As with all health supplements, it is crucial to consult with a healthcare provider before using CBDA edibles, especially for individuals diagnosed with cancer or those undergoing cancer treatments.

Anxiety Management

The role of CBDA in anxiety management is another promising aspect of this natural compound. Anxiety is a common ailment in today’s fast-paced world, with many seeking natural approaches to manage their symptoms. Research suggests that CBDA may interact with serotonin receptors in our brain, which are crucial for regulating mood and anxiety levels. By consuming CBDA edibles, individuals may experience reduced anxiety levels, contributing to improved mental well-being and quality of life. Furthermore, the edible form of CBDA offers an easy, discreet, and non-invasive method to include this supplement in one’s daily routine. However, individuals considering CBDA edibles for anxiety management should always consult a healthcare professional to ensure it aligns with their overall treatment plan.

Natural and Unprocessed

Being a raw compound, CBDA offers a holistic approach to wellness, with the potential benefits of the cannabis plant in its most natural form. Its unprocessed form makes it appealing to those seeking an approach to health that is closer to nature, and potentially more effective than its decarboxylated counterpart. The edible form of CBDA provides the convenience of incorporating this compound into one’s daily routine in a discreet and easy manner, while also avoiding the smoke or vapor inhalation associated with other methods of cannabinoid consumption.

Non-Psychotropic

Unlike THC, CBDA is non-psychotropic, meaning it doesn’t produce the “high” associated with cannabis use, making it a safer option for those seeking the health benefits of cannabis without the psychoactive effects. Furthermore, CBDA edibles can be purchased in states where cannabis is still illegal, as long as they don’t contain CBD or THC. This means individuals who cannot legally obtain cannabis products with psychoactive compounds may still benefit from CBDA edibles and their potential health benefits.

As the interest in natural and holistic approaches to wellness continues to grow, so does the research into CBDA, its potential benefits, and its applications in promoting balance and well-being. The edible form of CBDA offers an easy and discreet way to include this natural compound in one’s daily routine, thus providing a holistic approach to health for those seeking relief from inflammation, nausea, anxiety, or other ailments naturally. In addition to consulting with a healthcare professional before starting a CBDA regimen, it is also important to ensure that the product is organic and pesticide-free for safe and effective use. With its potential benefits in mind, CBDA edibles may be an attractive option for individuals looking to incorporate natural health solutions into their daily lives.

IYO SKY wins the WWE Women’s title after MITB briefcase cash-in

A Money In The Bank cash in took place at SummerSlam which resulted in a new WWE Women’s champion.

The triple threat match between champion Asuka, Charlotte Flair, and Bianca Belair ended when Flair had Belair in the Figure 8 and Asuka came in and spit mist in Flair’s eyes. She then tried to attack Belair, still in the Figure 8, but Belair managed to roll up Asuka, pinning her and winning the title.

But Belair’s celebration did not last long as IYO SKY’s theme song hit the speakers and she came down sprinting with Bayley. Bayley took out Flair in the aisle with the briefcase and then tried to level Belair but Belair fought back. SKY grabbed the briefcase and attacked Belair’s injured leg and set her up for the moonsault.

SKY then handed over the briefcase and told the referee she’s cashing in. She waited on the ropes as the bell rang and then hit the moonsault immediately. A three count later and a new WWE Women’s champion was crowned.

She was then joined by Bayley and the returning Dakota Kai celebrating in the ring, exactly a year after the Damage Control group was formed at last year’s SummerSlam.

SKY’s successful win keeps the 100% record of women’s MITB briefcase cash-ins.

Collision TV Report for 08/05/2023

AEW Collision tonight comes to us from the Bon Secours Wellness Arena (just rolls off the tongue) in Greenville, SC.  After last week drawing 739,000 & 0.27 in the 18-49 demo.

*****

Title draped over his shoulder, CM Punk cut the oldest of old school promos – Ricky Steamboat’s in the house ‘to make sure there’s no cheating’ as ‘the real world champion begins to separate the pretenders from the contenders’.  He’ll see Starks in the ring.

Who replied by promising to make history tonight, the crowd’ll be chanting ‘Ab-so-lute’ by the end of it.  Prince Nana called FTR ‘fat slobs’ (still wouldn’t mind knowing who the hell or what the hell Prince Nana is).

Cash said his mom was in the house ‘so we can’t lose’.  Dax that they were the best team in the world.

Ian Riccaboni continues in place of Kevin Kelly.

FTR vs Big Bill & Brian Cage (Tag Titles)

Backstory: The challengers either won a battle royal or one of their friends asked nicely

Big Bill out to a combo of silence and murmurs.  Not much different for Cage.  As they walked the ramp we were shown the pair running through the battle royal to win this shot.

Nice pop for FTR, fans chanting their names before they even hit the ramp.  Certainly don’t have to worry about being booed here: ‘We’re home baby! They love us!’ yelled Cash into the camera.

Cash & Cage squaring off first, Wheeler heading for a hug from his mom before commencing battle.  Lockup, headlock from Cage, break in the ropes.  Cage knee to the gut, clubbing blow, headlock, irish whip, Cash leapfrog/dropdown but run through by Cage’s shoulder.

Dax in, blocking a hiptoss but clubbed to the mat by a lariat, countering a gorilla press into a pin for one: big chop, duck under, baseball slide, bodyslam blocked, slipping behind, O’Connor roll, two.

Another stinging chop, tag to Cash, the champs run through by the Machine.  As Big Bill came in to boos.  Missing an elbow, he took a chop and big uppercut but came back via bodyslam and a shimmying elbow drop for two.

Cash got the boots up in the corner, missile dropkick, Harwood back in, quick tags from the champs who were run together by the big man.  Cage entering, sent outside via double lariat, Shatter Machine coming, they couldn’t lift Bill, who chokeslammed Cash across Dax’s back.

Then flung Cash over the top onto his partner, the champs down as the ads arrived.

Back to Bill working over Cash outside right in front of his mom.  She wasn’t the least worried or annoyed but slugged the big man.  Bill responded by dropping Wheeler across the apron.

Cage in to bring Cash in via suplex from the apron.  Crowd chanting for the champs with Bill back in, torture rack, Cash countering into a pin attempt – Bill blocked several until kicking out of a rollup before one and popping up angrily to smash Cash via lariat.

Machine in, whipping Bill at Cash in the corner, Wheeler avoided it, German to Cage, all three down, crowd clapping their support, Cage ducking an enziguri but taking a back elbow, tag.  Dax in with heat, rights for all, flying forearm, Bill landing outside.  Before squaring off with Cage, who shook off a bunch of lariats, hit a thrust kick but ate a big right from Dax mid-discus punch.

Up onto Harwood’s shoulders, Cash off the top to hit a Steiner Bros bulldog for a very near fall.  Crowd couldn’t have been more into that.  Cage then turning the tables, catching both, flinging them via fallaway, delayed suplex to Dax, Bill chokeslam to Cash, count of two.

Crowd chanting again for the champs as Bill dragged Cash to the corner for more punishment, setting him atop the buckle, atop the shoulders, Dax saving his partner from a Domesday Device.  There was an awkward pause before Bill sent both over the top. Cage soaring onto them via a spectacular cannonball senton, flinging Cash inside, Bill Bill big boot waiting, two only.  TiA chant from the crowd.

Looking for F5, Cage was shoved into Bill, knocking him off the apron, turning round right into the Shatter Machine, 1, 2, 3.  Nice moment as Cash’s mom celebrated as only moms do.

Clearly AEW still don’t particularly like Brian Cage.  He wasn’t in often, Bill was made to look dominant and Cage took the pin.  It’s a little baffling, he’s much better than Bill, though admittedly doesn’t have the charisma.

Dax then took the mic: ten years ago they started a legacy, calling themselves the greatest tag team of all time, he reeled off a list of all the places they’d held the titles.  But to complete the legacy there’s one thing left to do… He paused, Cash took the mic: ‘Young Bucks’ – huge pop for the idea of the match – ‘Hows about we finish it at Wembley Stadium?’

Dax finished things, ‘The rubber match, who is the greatest team of all time? Top Guys out!’

Yes please.

Winner: FTR

CM Punk/Ricky Starks package.

Schiavone with Juice and Jay White’s cut-out.  White’ll be facing Metalik in his Collision debut.  Robinson said BCG were ‘hotter than hell’.  The real Jay White entered, smacking the cut-out and introducing the Gunns to teach Tony how to commentate.  Austin mimicked ‘It’ssss STIIIIIING’.  White said it’d be ‘lights out’ for Metalik.  They all kinda bullied Schiavone the way DX used to do to Michael Cole.

Schiavone’s facial expressions were so great here, subtly showing his disdain.

Kris Statlander vs Mercedes Martinez (TBS Title)

Backstory: Mercedes attacked Statlander last week

Wow AEW are really bothered by the women’s controversy.  This makes a whole week without them being slotted right before the main event.

Decent pop for both ladies.  Particularly the champ.

Mercedes rushed her, Statlander avoided it, the two exchanging shots in the corner, big shoulder block and missile dropkick from the champ.  More rights in the corner, suplex setup, Martinez slipping behind, missing a boot, tripped and taking a somersault plancha (maybe the plancha was supposed to miss?  Slightly awkward sequence).  But popping up to stomp away at Statlander.

More of the same in the corner, Statlander struggling, being choked against the ropes.  Butterfly suplex, another, Mercedes maintaining her grip, seeking a third, Statlander free, big kick but quickly snatched into a headlock, Martinez firing elbows, the champ down once more.

Palm strikes and a chokeslam bomb for two; blows across the chest with the head captured.  Huge open-hand slap in the corner, a desperate Statlander getting an elbow up but slugged back down, Martinez totally dominant thus far.

Break.

The champ finally fighting back, big lariat out of the corner, splash following but meeting a big right before coming back with a running hip attack, sending Martinez outside, Statlander going splat on the ringside mats after missing a diving cross body off the apron.  But again responding, this time via backbreaker, Martinez taking a seat on the opposite apron, snapping Statlander across the top rope, snap powerslam from the champ as she returned to the ring, count of two.

Fans totally behind Statlander all match here.

As she was caught up top and dumped on her head with a sickening spider suplex, running knee, two only.  Martinez looking to finish things off via fisherwoman’s buster, Statlander countering into a rollup for one, missing a lariat, but hitting a spinning fisherwoman buster of her own for two.  The champ in disbelief, wheelbarrow countered into a pin by Martinez for a very near fall.

Martinez up first, crowd chanting loudly for the champ, Martinez hit the ropes, an awkward sequence ending with a rollup into a bridge as the champ retained.

There were one or two awkward moments but this was good.  A very receptive crowd adding to a physical match.

Statlander clearly learned nothing from last week though, raising her belt up to celebrate while Martinez disputed the call with the ref, allowing the latter to strike from behind.  Diamante then pulled a classic ‘Swerve Bro!’, joining the attack until Willow Nightingale ran them off to chants of ‘Willow’.

Statlander sold as if she were absolutely exhausted

Winner: Kris Statlander

Schiavone with the former women’s champ Toni Storm, who had curlers in her hair and was dressed in a black nightgown as if she were depressed and had just got out of bed.  She said she was stood here ‘as naked as the day I was born’ (presumably she meant emotionally; the way Tony eyed the camera when she said this was phenomenal).

She insisted she wasn’t freaking out while sounding like she was.  ‘Am I just not a star anymore?  Am I just not talented like I was?’ Asking Tony if she wasn’t enough for him, opening her nightgown slightly.  Then yelling ‘This is not right!’ before very quietly saying the interview was over.  Yelling at him to shutup even when out of camera shot.

No idea how he kept a straight face.

Storm basically played an actress from the 1930’s having a breakdown, verging between coldly rational and flipping out.  All that was missing was a martini.  This was a hoot.  Certainly different from your average character.

It’s clear she’d put a lot of thought into this.

Plus, everytime an AEW star gets through an interview uninterrupted, an angel gets its wings.

Samoa Joe vs Serpentico

Backstory: None

Joe strutted down the ramp with his badass music playing and the crowd loudly chanting his name.  Looking such a star.

Best thing to be said for Serpentico is he’s latino and Dasha’s announcing.  Because he was choked out in about ten seconds.  Crowd loved it.

Snatching a mic, the big man wasn’t done.  Calling himself the ‘one true king of television’ again, he mentioned a problem he’s having.  All In’s coming and ‘your king has nobody to dance with’.  ‘While a certain ‘real world champ’ was calling himself the best in the world, I knew he wasn’t better than me a day in his life’.  Big cheer.

But Joe lost that belief recently.  And how he lost it really bothered him.  ‘A rollup is not good enough for our legacy’.  So he’s here… ‘champ’… to ask Punk to give him and these people what they want and what their legacy deserves.

But his courtesy in requesting this only extends to this week, ‘If you make me wait till next week, you best believe I’ll convince your ass… Punk’

Great promo.  And another match to look forward to in London.  Joe was massively over here and a total babyface.

Winner: Samoa Joe

Andrade promo package.  When something’s taken from him, he fights for it.  Erm, that’s it.

The Acclaimed & Schiavone in a backstage sitdown.  They had Billy Gunn’s boots, showing the clip of him leaving them.  They’ve tried to give Gunn his boots back but he insists he’s retired, blaming himself for his team losing.

Caster said he wants to respect Billy’s decision but Bowens, looking right at the camera, told Gunn what he’d meant to them, how much he’d helped them and how much they loved him, tearing up while talking.

This was very effective, largely because of Bowens’ acting.  Interesting that he did 90% of the talking here.

House of Black vs Action Andretti, Darius Martin & Lee Johnson (Trios Titles, House Rules)

Backstory: None

Legit or not, Matthews had his shoulder heavily taped.  The challengers chose to have Julia banned from ringside (they get to choose a rule) and the crowd did not like this.  Big boos.

Lights down for this House Rules match, Brody and Darius starting, HOB total babyfaces.  Headlock from Darius, he flung himself at the big man, didn’t go well, neither did a shoulder block.  Knee to the gut and thrust kick to the knee faring better, to the top, diving cross body seeing him splat off Brody and crash to the mat.

Black in, kick to the mush, Andretti in via blind tag, Action & Martin fired a range of kicks until Malakai avoided a missile dropkick but was sent outside via Andretti hurracanrana.  Pursuing Black, he was sent to the barricade.

Back inside, he ate a massive knee strike, legsweep, tag to Matthews, stomp to the shoulder off the top, waist-first suplex across the top rope and was smashed off the apron into the announce desk.

Break.  Not that this match really needs to go through one, crystal clear who’s winning.

Andretti trying to fight back, getting the tag to Johnson, cross body off the top, dropkick to Brody, enziguri to Buddy, moonsault into a double inverted ddt to Black & Buddy.  Great flurry.

Firing up, Johnson hit a double springboard cutter, flying forearms in the corner until missing, being pinned against the buckle by Buddy so Black could hit a kick, the crowd already barking in anticipation as Johnson slumped down in the corner.

King in.

All three hit sentons to the babyfaces until the other two launched Johnson into a big right from Brody, the pin broken at two by Andretti, Buddy elevated outside, Malakai too, springboard moonsault to both, Darius off the top, his pin attempt seeing him launched clear at the count of one by Brody.

Double team kick combo from Andretti and Darius, the former popped up but landed into a double knee strike from Black and Buddy.  Before Brody polished off Darius via spinning lariat.

Fun squash, especially after the break.  Crowd loved the House, especially King.  Little surprised Lee Johnson didn’t take the pin since he’s never on tv and the other two are.

Riccaboni cut in to announce CMFTR vs House of Black for the trios title next week.

Winner: House of Black

Schiavone with Powerhouse Hobbs.  QT immediately interrupted, shooing Schiavone away.  Marshall had gifts to make up for costing him that match like a month ago.  A gold chain and a match at All Out.  Hobbs said he neither wanted or needed QT’s help, but did take the chain before walking off.

*****

Schiavone now with Christian, Luchasaurus & Christian’s daughter who looked very uncomfortable.  Presumably deliberately so.  He brought her because he’s realized he’s a role model for children.  While Darby Allin’s mentoring eighteen-year-olds who don’t deserve to be here.

She interrupted to ask for the belt, he was disgusted, asking if she’d won it then sending her off to find her mom and yelling to security that she wasn’t credentialled.  (There are some tremendously entertaining heels on the show tonight.)

Cage reiterated that he was the TNT champ before leaving.

Jay White vs Metalik

Backstory: None

White came out to a nice pop along with the BCG & the cut-out.  Metalik started in the ring.  The Gunns joined comms.  Nigel was delighted, Ian was not.

Jay threw his shirt to them, continuing the very fun heel work tonight.  Then pounded Metalik in the corner.  Metalik sent to the apron, enziguri, missing off the top, landing into a kick to the gut and ddt Jake Roberts would’ve been proud of.

White flinging him outside, where Robinson yelled right in his face, Metalik briefly fought back but was flung into the ringpost by White.  Bagging two back inside.  Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for the same result.

Then see-sawed him throat first into the bottom rope for another two.  Fighting back, Metalik got a boot up in the corner, bulldog, hurracanrana from the middle rope but was snapped across the top rope before coming back via Asai moonsault.

White flung back in, Metalik to the top, missing a moonsault, White slipping behind off the shoulder, sleeper suplex, Bladerunner, victory.

Pretty much what it needed to be.  White’s really starting to come off as a star, one of the big beneficiaries off this new show.

Winner: Jay White

Promo package showing Anna Jay’s debut against Shida.  Jay said the second time they met Jay nearly beat her and now she’s no longer a rookie.  After beating Skye Blue last night, she plans to take the title.

CM Punk vs Ricky Starks (‘Real’ World Championship, Ref: Ricky Steamboat)

Backstory: Punk’s putting the belt he says he never lost on the line after Starks beat him twice

JR joined on comms.  Glad he’s doing better.

Boos for Punk clashing with ‘CM Punk’ chants as usual.  This week he wore a shirt with ‘I’m a Collision Girl’ across the back, smashing through Ricky with his shoulder, hip toss, Starks bailing early for a break.

Punk held the ropes open for him, inviting him back in.

Duelling chants as they locked up, Punk pushed to the corner, out to a test of strength, chain wrestling ending in a one-count for Punk.  He smashed through Starks once more via shoulder block, mocking his pose to some boos.  (Btw that duelling ‘Let’s go Ricky/CM Punk’ chant lasted several minutes and was intense.)

Another reset, Starks slipping behind, Punk getting a headlock, another shoulder block but caught into a series of Steamboat style armdrags, Punk bailing outside this time.  Starks then mocking Punk’s poses.  And holding the ropes open.

Crowd finally settling as Starks hit a kick to the gut, big chop, another, driving Punk to the corner, following with stiff body shots and kicks.  Knee to the gut, Roshambeaux attempt, GTS too, both slipped out, Starks smashing Punk outside via lariat and tumbling over himself.

Ads.  Nice start.

Back to a shoving match, couple slaps, Starks flurry in the corner, Punk down covering-up, firing back with body shots and rights to the face.  Starks then fired a last slap and fled outside, dragging Punk through the ropes, Punk sent him over the barricade into the first row.

Then fired shots from the mount on the ringside mats.  Until being dragged clear by Steamboat.  Punk wasn’t happy but stayed calm.  Back inside, Chicago Phil remained on top with shots in the corner until being crotched on the ropes and hit via baseball slide, sending him crashing to ringside.

Duelling chants kicking up again as Starks sent Punk back in, barely bagging one with a cover.  Big elbow strike, to the top, another from upstairs – Tatanka style – before applying a waistlock, Punk straining to his feet, back elbows until Starks flung him front-first into the buckle and hit a springboard stomp.

Crowd booing Starks (seems like last week that although it’s mixed, there are more cheers than boos for the ‘champ’).  Armdrag and twist, Ricky looking for the front buckle bump once more, Punk countering into a cross body from the middle buckle, to the apron, shoulder to the gut, sunset flip blocked by Starks grabbing the ropes.

Ads.

Back to Punk seeking a superplex, hitting it, lax cover for two.  Both to their feet, Punk throwing rights, snapping jabs, one to the jaw, leg lariat, swinging neckbreaker, step-up knee in the corner, bulldog, two.  Nice sequence.

Upstairs, thinking elbow, Starks to his feet, awkward attempt at a cross body/roll through – ‘that looked bad’ per JR.  Starks on the shoulders, wriggling free of a GTS but trapped into a pin for two, Ricky slumping in the opposite corner, looking for a breather.

Punk readying another knee-strike, caught into a powerbomb, 2 and ¾.  Crowd chanting for Punk as Starks walked the ropes, snatched off into the GTS, slipping free again to fling Punk shoulder-first into the ringpost.  Punk avoiding a spear, Starks tasting the post now and rolled up for two.  Roundhouse to the back of the head as he rose, Punk getting another two.  TiA chant.  Deservedly.

Piledriver prepared, Starks countering into an Alabama slam for two.  Looking for the Roshambeaux, Punk slipping free, Starks hitting the ropes and crashing into the ref who was knocked cold.

As Starks looked for a cover with his legs on the middle ropes.  Steamboat pushed them off from the outside, Starks turned his back to complain, Punk rolled him up and bagged the win.  Anticlimactic end to a very good match.  Easily the best I’ve seen Starks have.  Seemed like it was still building to the finish.  Did at least protect Starks rather than losing clean.

Punk and Steamboat hugged, Starks shoved the latter into Punk, knocking him off the apron then whipped Steamboat with his belt.  Punk tried to intervene and was knocked clear again until returning with a chair.  He checked on Steamboat, who always was renowned for his selling, and hasn’t lost his touch.  And called the doctor in to check the veteran.

Starks was coming looking for more until being run-off by Punk, the crowd chanting for him (Still a smattering of boos but very few) but going quiet as Steamboat was helped to his feet.  Before chanting for the vet.

An excellent main event with an excellent angle to end another excellent Collision.  This show is levels above Dynamite.

Kairi Sane signs new WWE deal

PWInsider.com is reporting that Kairi Sane is returning to WWE and has signed a new deal with the company.

Sane left WWE in July 2020 to return to her home in Japan where she worked as an ambassador for WWE before leaving completely in March of last year. In February 2022 she announced that she would be returning to STARDOM and later in the year became the inaugural IWGP Women’s champion, a title she lost to Mercedes Mone in February 2023.

But in March, the Pirate Princess announced that she was a free agent and did not exclude a return to the United States. She originally left WWE not because of any differences, but because her husband still lived in Japan and wanted to go home to be a proper family.

She is a former NXT Women’s champion, WWE Women’s Tag Team champion, and Mae Young Classic winner.
