Gene Snitsky talks with Chris Van Vliet on punting a baby, wrestling, Chelsea Green, and more

Former WWE star Gene Snitsky is the latest guest on Insight with Chris Van Vliet. In this interview, he talks about the Paul London Royal Rumble elimination, his recent cameo with Chelsea Green, punting a baby being part of his legacy and more!

On the Paul London Royal Rumble elimination:

“I dare say it’s the top elimination ever, in my opinion. Not because I was involved in it, but because just the crowd reaction, the bump. All things taken into consideration, I don’t think anything else really matches it. So Paul and I, he took me off to the side, I’m like, ‘Hey, what do you want to do?’ [He said] ‘Well, you know, this, this and this, let’s try this…’ and then it evolved into that. And he’s like, ‘Well, just clothesline me’, because I wanted to somehow to make it impactful. He’s like, ‘Why don’t you just clothesline me off the apron?’ I’m like, ‘Okay, well, how do you want to do it?’ He’s like, ‘Well, I’ll miss something, and then just hit me and I’ll flip off the apron.’ I’m like, ‘Sweet, but I’m going to have to clothesline you hard, pretty much in the face to get the momentum.’ Because if I was lower, he wouldn’t have room to flip. So I had to hit him high so he could get up and still rotate. So it’s almost like physics, I dare say. So I was like, ‘Well, it’s gonna be probably in the face or the throat area or the head.’ And he was like, fine. I f*cking crammed him, dude. I ain’t gonna lie, I hit him hard! But that f*cking bump. The crowd, they thought he was dead. It looked unplanned, that’s how vicious it looked as a fan watching it. Even watching it back, I still Ooh, because it’s like, if you slow it down and see where I hit him, I hit him square right where your nose meets your forehead, and I f*cking hit him. He took it like a champ. He’s awesome. Paul’s great. Another guy they could have done so much more with. I always loved working with Paul. But yeah, that was pretty awesome, even all these years later, looking back on it, because that was 2005, 20 years ago.”

On whether he is done wrestling:

“No, I still wrestle here and there. I just got stem cell shots in my knee though, on March 29. I’ve been dealing with a little bit of a meniscus issue. So I went down to the great people at LifeMed Institute in Maryland, and they gave me an injection with that and did some vitamin infusion with the wife. It’s freaking amazing, that stuff. I don’t know the science behind it but I’ve had the best freaking workouts the last few weeks since I went down there.”

On his recent cameo with Chelsea Green:

“It just happened. Daivari is one of my best friends. I traveled with him at WWE. He’s one of the road agents now. So he was like, ‘Hey, are you stopping by the Wilkes Barre show?’ I’m like, ‘Well, I wasn’t planning to, are you going to be there?’ He’s like, Yeah. I said, ‘Alright, we’ll take a ride up.’ So me and my wife took a ride up, and we’re just sitting and catering with Daivari, John Cohen comes up to me, he’s like, ‘Hey, they have an idea for a backstage segment with Chelsea Green.’ I was like, Oh, cool. I’ve known Chelsea forever, plus I think she’s awesome, the character is great. So I was like, hell yeah, I’ll do it! And then literally one take, and that was it, it was crazy. She’s just so good. It’s funny, just trying to stay in character is half the battle sometimes, because it was funny.”

On the baby punting being part of his legacy:

“I don’t really know how to respond to that. When I got into wrestling, I never in a million years would have thought that whole storyline, just being thrown into it, because I had never done a dark match. Nobody knew who I was. I was just there, and then all of a sudden I’m the biggest heel on the show. It’s crazy, literally that quick.”

On some fans thinking the baby was real:

“There were a lot of people who thought that the baby was a real baby. Dead serious. I don’t want to by any means talk down about wrestling fans, but there is a small majority of them that see things on TV and whatever they see, they think is real. I’m telling you, as I’m sitting here right now with this amazing beard and ruggedly handsome good looks. I’m telling you, it’s crazy. I’m just like, this TV show is fake. We’re not kicking real babies. Come on, man!”

Cena vs Punk for WWE title set for Night of Champions 2025

John Cena’s next challenger for the WWE championship is none other than CM Punk.

The match was set up last night on Raw after CM Punk interrupted John Cena’s in-ring promo during the opening segment of the show.

Punk reminded Cena that he only had 18 dates left on his retirement tour and would leave it up to him to decide when and where he loses the title to Punk. While he suggested a match later in the broadcast, Cena refused that, and said that if he wants a shot, he has to travel to Saudi Arabia an do it at Night of Champions.

CM Punk was very outspoken against WWE for their deal with Saudi Arabia in the past and even told The Miz once on social media to go “suck a blood money covered dick.” If this match eventually happens remains up in the air but Punk has so far failed to travel to Saudi Arabia with WWE since his return.

Punk and Cena have not wrestled against each other since 2013.

Ron Killings on Raw: “Put some respect on my name!”

R-Truth appeared on Raw last night and declared that from now on, he is known as Ron Killings.

Killings entered through the crowd just like he did on Saturday and cut a promo on the announce booth. He put over the fans, saying that they were the reason that he is back on television.

“R-Truth is back for all of you, every one last of you,” he said. “But R-Tuth is back, I’m back for me too. You see, not only did you bring Truth back, you got me!”

He said that R-Truth was too funny, too nice, and too forgiving…but not him.

“I feel different. I feel alive,” Killings said, saying that everyone thinks he’s a side-show act and just a gimmick.

With that said, he got a pair of scissors and cut off his dreadlocks as a shocked crowd chanted “holy shit.”

“R-Truth…the truth has set me free. I am Ron Killings. I am the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth,” he said as he held his dreadlocks in his hand. “Now put some respect on my name!”

Killings then flipped the mic on Michael Cole and exited the same way he came in – through the fans.

Roxanne Perez and Sami Zayn first two to advance in King and Queen of the Ring tournament

The King and Queen of the Ring tournaments kicked off on Raw last night on Netflix.

Two qualifying matches, one for the men and one for the women, took place during the broadcast.

In the first match, former NXT Women’s champion Roxanne Perez won her fatal four-way qualifier after she defeated Rhea Ripley, Liv Morgan, and Kairi Sane.

Later in the broadcast, Sami Zayn advanced in the tournament when he beat Penta, Bron Breakker, and Dominik Mysterio.

The winners of the two tournaments will earn a title shot at SummerSlam. The finals will be held at the Night of Champions premium live event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia later this month.

Gunther wins WWE World Heavyweight champion on Raw

Gunther became a two-time WWE World Heavyweight champion last night after he defeated Jey Uso fair and square in the middle of the ring on Raw.

Uso went to sleep as The Ring General locked in his sleeper hold after Jey had managed to escape the hold just moments earlier. But the second time proved a bit too much for Uso and fans gasped as Jey’s hand failed to respond to the referee’s touch.

And just like that, his reign as World Heavyweight champion came to an end after just 51 days. He won it from Gunther with the same move at WrestleMania 41, ending Gunther’s 258-day reign as champ back then.

There were no hints of any cash-in from Seth Rollins any time during the broadcast.

World Heavyweight title match headlines Raw on Netflix tonight

Raw

Tonight’s Monday Night Raw will be headlined by a World Heavyweight title defense as champion Jey Uso defends his gold against former champion Gunther.

While no other matches have been announced yet, the King and Queen of the Ring tournament will kick off tonight as well.

Plus, the new Mr. Money In The Bank Seth Rollins will be in the house and so will the WWE champion John Cena. And Nikki Bella returns, appearing for the first time since the Royal Rumble as the push for Evolution 2 starts.

Brian Cage undergoes knee replacement surgery

AEW star Brian Cage underwent knee replacement surgery last week, just eight weeks after he underwent another surgery for a quad tendon repair.

In a post on Instagram, Cage uploaded a video already in the gym, working on his upper body.

“Love me, hate me, or somewhere in-between, you can’t deny I’m a f*cking machine,” he wrote.

Cage said that he had been dealing with excessive knee pain for years and have been working through it with the intention of going under the knife after All In.

But after he tore his quad, he decided to get both surgeries done within the space of two months.

“Not an easy or fun choice, but I’m gonna come back ripping heads off. Especially if this is me right now after surgery,” he continued.

Cage last appeared on AEW TV on the March 19 episode of Collision.

AEW’s TV home Warner Bros. Discovery splitting in two separate entities

Warner Bros. Discovery announced today that it’s splitting into two separate entities – Streaming & Studios and Global Networks. Both will be publicly traded companies.

Global Networks will house AEW’s television homes of TNT and TBS among other networks such as Discovery and Bleacher Report. This will be headed by Gunnar Wiedenfels, the current CFO of Warner Bros. Discovery, who will now serve as President and CEO.

Streaming & Studios will carry the DC Studios, Warner Bros., Warner Bros. Television, and AEW’s streaming home, Max, which will soon revert to HBO Max. This company will be headed by an AEW supporter in David Zaslav, who currently is the President and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery and will now serve as President and CEO.

The separation is expected to be completed by mid-2026, subject to closing and other conditions, including final approval by the Warner Bros. Discovery Board and other entities.

How this affects AEW remains to be seen. Zaslav supported AEW a lot when they started but now he loses the TBS/TNT portfolio. AEW’s deal with WBD runs till the end of 2027.

WWE President Nick Khan negotiated directly with R-Truth for return

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful is reporting through his Select service that it took WWE President Nick Khan to negotiate with Ron “R-Truth” Killings to bring him back after the 53-year-old ignored attempts by the company earlier in the week.

Truth was notified by a talent relations employee rather by someone with a higher pay grade, and considering he was 17 years in, that felt a little bit disrespectful.

Khan entered the picture when everything else failed to get in touch with Killings and then the two sides had to do some compromising on each end to reach a new deal according to Sapp.

One of the things that Truth wanted was to use his real name of Ron Killings moving forward and probably the comedy character is also going away with the name. At his age, this is Killings’ last probable run anywhere and wants it to be meaningful after spending almost two decades as a comedy character.

The whole deal came about within 72 hours of Money In The Bank and it’s safe to say that everyone backstage was elated to see him back.

Truth’s dismissal caused an unprecedented outrage from fans and peers alike and while Triple H said it was “all part of the show,” it was anything but.

Worlds Collide

The WWE/AAA Worlds Collide live show on YouTube yesterday afternoon nearly topped 800,000 viewers across the English and Spanish separate streams, which has to be considered a major success.

The two-and-a-half hour broadcast started early for those at the Kia Forum as the show kicked off at Noon PT due to Money In The Bank following it at 4PM PT. Nearly 11,000 people showed up to witness this first-ever show between WWE and AAA.

Later in the day, over 17,000 jam-packed the Intuit Dome for MITB. Due to heavy traffic, protests, and everything going on in Los Angeles, thousands of people missed the start of the show but managed to find their way to their seat by the time the first match was over.

British star Alex Windsor signs with AEW

Alex Windsor, the girlfriend of Will Ospreay, announced that she is now All Elite and has signed a deal with AEW.

Windsor lost the IWGP Women’s title on Friday during the Pro Wrestling Eve show at The Big Penny Social in London, England against Syuri and following the match, she told the crowd that it was her final match for Pro Wrestling Eve and her final indie match as she has signed a contract with AEW.

The 31-year-old Brit has been wrestling since 2009. Apart from Pro Wrestling Eve, she also wrestled for Rev Pro Wrestling in the UK, CMLL, and had stints in Japan.

Windsor last appeared on an AEW-related show this past February, losing to Athena in an ROH Women’s title match at Global Wars Australia.

R-Truth says leaving WWE was “no work”

Replying to someone on social media who said fans “got worked” in this whole R-Truth situation, Ron Killings himself denied that statement.

“No work,” Truth replied in a short and simple post on X.

This was after Triple H claimed in the post-MITB press conference that Truth coming back was “all part of the show,” refusing to get into the discussion further. His son Christopher then posted on Instagram Triple H’s video and wrote “stop the cap,” a slang used to describe somebody as lying. Christopher also congratulated his father on getting a new deal.

Rumors are that WWE low-balled Truth in contract negotiations and offered him less money than he was making to extend his deal. The 53-year-old refused and walked away after 17 consecutive years with the promotion, with his announcement coming on June 1.

That post, which had 22.3 million views, exploded, catching his peers by surprise, most of whom replied paying tribute to him. The backlash from fans was big, with “We want Truth” chants all throughout the week on WWE television, making enough noise to knock WWE into their senses and bringing Ron Killings back.

Nikki Bella returning to Raw tomorrow

With WWE Evolution 2 around the corner, former WWE Divas champion Nikki Bella is returning starting from tomorrow’s Monday Night Raw on Netflix.

Bella has hinted at being part of more WWE events in the future during a couple of episodes of The Nikki & Brie Show. She returned at the 2025 Royal Rumble during the women’s match which was her first appearance in three long years.

The Bellas were in Las Vegas during WrestleMania weekend and Nikki even did photo ops at the WWE World convention but did not appear on television.

The wins announced in 2023 that they were no longer under WWE contract.
