The Miz and Maryse are getting their own show on USA Network, titled Miz & Mrs, a docuseries chronicling the lives of the two WWE Superstars.
The six-episode, half-hour series will feature the married pair, known for being larger than life both in and out of the ring, as the Superstars become parents for the first time.
“As the exclusive television home for WWE’s flagship programming, USA Network is excited to give this passionate fanbase even more of two of WWE’s most colorful Superstars, The Miz and Maryse,” said Heather Olander, SVP of Alternative Development and Production. ““Miz & Mrs.” is an intimate, behind-the-scenes glimpse at this iconic couple as they face one of their most exciting challenges yet – becoming parents.”
The series will be produced by WWE and Bunim/Murray Productions, the same production company behind Total Divas and Total Bellas. It is expected to air in 2018 but no premiere date has been set yet.
WWE.COM is reporting that Samoa Joe has suffered another injury to his right foot last night on Raw and is not cleared to compete next week as part of the WWE Mixed Match Challenge show on Facebook.
“During his match, [Samoa Joe] felt a pop at the bottom of his [right] foot,” said WWE Senior Ringside Physician Dr. Chris Amann. “We took a look and believe he has a plantar fascia rupture, which is a thick tissue rupture under the foot. We will get an MRI to confirm. Treatment includes a period of immobilization in a boot with crutches and platelet rich plasma injections.”
During the show, Joe announced his intentions to enter the Royal Rumble match although that is also a question mark now and it all depends how quickly he can heal from this fresh injury.
Joe was voted by fans to be Bayley’s partner in the Mixed Match Challenge but with his injury, Raw General Manager Kurt Angle said that runner-up Elias will be taking his place as Bayley’s partner.
The fourth title match has been added to the Royal Rumble card as the Raw Tag Team titles will be on the line with Seth Rollins and Jason Jordan defending against Sheamus and Cesaro.
It’s unclear if those participating in the title matches – except in the heavyweight ones – would also be part of the Royal Rumble match although this scenario has happened several times in the past.
Apart from the Universal and WWE title matches, the United States tournament final will be held during the Rumble along with the two over-the-top battle royals.
WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin will be making his return on WWE television in two weeks time for the Raw 25th anniversary episode, his first appearance since WrestleMania 32.
But Austin won’t be the only Attitude Era star who will show up to Raw 25. WWE also announced that The Dudley Boyz, The APA, The New Age Outlaws, DX, Ric Flair, and Scott Hall will be in attendance as well.
Nikki and Brie Bella are scheduled to be part of the broadcast. Brie has been out since WrestleMania 32 as well as she retired and Nicole has not appeared since WrestleMania 33.
The announce team of Jerry “The King” Lawler and Jim Ross will be on hand, most likely tasked with calling the action from the Manhattan Center.
WWE had already announced that The Undertaker, Kevin Nash, and Shawn Michaels would be part of the broadcast.
The WWE United Kingdom Champion and the IWGP Junior Heavyweight champion are set to go one-on-one on January 17 at an IPW:UK event titled Magnificent 7even to be held in Milton Keynes.
Pete Dunne, the current UK champ will face Will Ospreay, the newly crowned IWGP Junior champ in a rare match pitting two champions from two different promotions. Ospreay on the title at the Wrestle Kingdom 12 event last week. Dunne has defended the UK title a couple of times since winning it at NXT Takeover: Chicago last year but the Bruiserweight has held on to it. This match will be a regular match with no title on the line.
Tickets for this show are available for £25 VIP or £15.50 general admission. For more information go to ipwuk.com.
WWE will be returning to Chicago’s United Center for the first time in 20 years for a non-televised live event on March 3. The news was announced by the United Center Twitter account earlier today.
This will be a Raw brand show which will also include John Cena. The pre-sale starts tomorrow at 10AM CST and ends on January 11 at 10PM CST. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, January 12 at 10AM CST via Ticketmaster.com. The arena is also running a contest where you can win tickets for this show at unitedcenter.com/wwecontest.
The company usually runs shows at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont rather than the United Center which explains the 20-year absence. Perhaps the most important WWE show to be held in this arena was SummerSlam 1994 which had Undertaker vs Undertaker as the main event. The United Center was typically the arena that WCW chose when in Chicago.
The eighth MMC partnership was revealed on Facebook this afternoon and involves the combination of the veteran Goldust and Alicia Fox.
The reveal happened as Goldust was doing another time-lapse of his make-up application while his partner walked around backstage with a phone filming herself as she was about to meet the lucky guy.
“I knew it was going to be you! I knew it, I knew it, I knew it,” Fox said as she jumped up and down with joy. “Is it you, Fox? Or are you coming in just to say that?” Goldust replied. Fox was super happy with the pairing and Goldust seemed genuinely happy as well. “This is awesome! This is cool!”
Out of all the videos so far, this seemed spontaneous and neither of the two looked like they knew they were going to be teamed up. “I can’t wait! You’re gonna make me a better Superstar,” Fox told Goldust as she hugged him.
The Miz got a nice surprise when he walked into the arena today as his Mixed Match Challenge partner was revealed to be none other than the undefeated Asuka!
As Miz was walking in explaining what he has been doing over the past couple of weeks, a limo drove in. When the door opened, a bunch of balloons were let go and Asuka came out from behind the door.
The Miz was elated that the former NXT Women’s champion is his partner and said that they will win the MMC. He told Asuka that he will do to her what he did to Daniel Bryan, elevate her to superstardom. Asuka smiled and nodded in agreement.
Former Intercontinental champion The Miz will be returning on WWE television for the first time tonight since mid-November.
The Miz went to the United Kingdom – along with Shawn Michaels and Becky Lynch – to film the new WWE Studios movie The Marine 6: Close Quarters. Miz plays the leading role in the movie.
After he finished filming, he then traveled to the Middle East to spread some holiday cheer to U.S. troops in various posts, spending Christmas with them as part of a 4-day USO tour.
The last time The Miz was on Monday Night Raw, he lost the Intercontinental title to Roman Reigns. He is the third longest reigning IC champion, with a total of 523 days with the title, just 18 days shy of Don Muraco who is in second place. Pedro Morales is in first with a total of 619 days.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson got his #1 spot in the box office chart this week as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle continues to outperform other movies.
The movie did an estimated $36 million for the weekend according to BoxOfficeMojo.com, hitting the #1 spot for the first time since its release on December 20. Domestically, the movie is at $244,372,666 in box office receipts and an additional $275 million internationally, bringing the worldwide total to $519,372,666.
Jumanji is now Dwayne Johnson’s third most successful movie in terms of box office revenue, sitting behind Moana and Furious 7. It will overtake Moana next week as it’s only $4 million away in domestic gross.
Enzo Amore, who got cleared to wrestle following his illness, will be defending the Cruiserweight title tomorrow night on Raw against Cedric Alexander. He returned to the ring during this weekend’s non-televised shows.
This match was supposed to take place last week but Enzo got taken to the hospital after falling ill. The champ checked out of the hospital before Raw in order to make the match but when he arrived backstage he was told that he’s not cleared to compete.
His absence last week also got him booted out of the Mixed Match Challenge series and was replaced by Apollo Crews. While the tournament starts on January 16, WWE taped a lot of material for the show on Monday and Tuesday and since Enzo was not there, he was swiftly replaced.
The WWE Mixed Match Challenge series on Facebook will only be available for viewers in the United States.
Launched in August of last year, Facebook Watch is the new VOD service by the social media giant that allows companies such as WWE to earn 55% of the advertising revenue while Facebook gets the remaining cut. The only problem with Facebook Watch however is that the service is limited to those within the United States, keeping viewers from the rest of the world out of the picture.
The series kicks off on January 16 live at 10PM EST immediately following Smackdown Live. There could be the possibility that WWE uploads clips of the series on their YouTube account although it’s very highly unlikely that the full episodes will be uploaded since Facebook and YouTube are competitors. WWE are already posting the MMC partnership reveal videos on YouTube.
Christy Hemme underwent successful surgery and delivered four health babies yesterday. She also had a second surgery to insert a balloon in her uterus to prevent it from rupturing.
“Surgery went extremely well! Christy and all 4 babies are safe,” her husband wrote on Twitter. Hemme had a difficult pregnancy and was lately stuck in a horizontal position due to the size of her belly and position of her babies.
Hemme departed Impact Wrestling in 2016 after a 10-year career.
Congratulations to Christy and her husband on the arrival of their quadruplets!
AXS TV will air four matches from this week’s Wrestle Kingdom 12 event with commentary from WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross and Josh Barnett.
One of the four matches airing tonight will be the Chris Jericho versus Kenny Omega bout which went nearly 30 minutes and is a match that many consider to be one of Jericho’s very best over the last several years. The other matches airing are the main event of Kazuchika Okada vs Tetsuya Naito, Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Jay White, and Cody Rhodes vs Kota Ibushi.
The action starts at 8PM EST on NJPW’s U.S. television home, AXS TV.
On this episode of Total Divas, one of the Divas learned a very important lesson: opinions on what is appropriate differ depending on perspective.
WWE Diva Lana apparently enjoys being extremely affectionate with her co-workers. Her displays of affection include kissing co-workers on the lips, patting her co-workers rear ends, and squeezing their breasts to determine which Diva has the biggest ones. Lana thinks that this is just friendly behavior between Divas, but her husband, Rusev, disagreed.
He confronted Lana about her overtly affectionate behavior towards her fellow Divas, and at first, Lana dismissed his hurt feelings claiming he was overreacting. I have to say that I agree with Rusev, Lana’s behavior seemed pretty odd for a woman who is happily married to a man. Further, couldn’t the other Divas have a claim to sexual harassment charges?
Rusev drove his point home when at SummerSlam, he accompanied Lana and the other Divas on a girls night out, and introduced her to a lesbian club goer, and suggested that the two women hang out. I think that Lana should’ve known that it’s only natural for man to get jealous when he sees his wife kissing other people, particularly if those people are female.
Meanwhile Lana wasn’t the only Diva having relationship problems this week. Alexa Bliss was becoming overly concerned that her fiancé and Australian member of the NXT roster wasn’t going to be called up to main roster anytime soon. His release from the contract with WWE would mean his immediate return to Australia because of his work visa, which would expire as soon as his contract was terminated. Alexa didn’t want to see him deported, so they began to discuss other alternatives.
He suggested that he should apply for a fiancé visa. This seems like a brilliant plan, however, US law requires applicants for a fiancé visa to marry within 90 days of applying for one. According to Alexa, this would shatter her dream of an elaborate wedding with all of the traditional trappings, because 90 days wouldn’t give her enough time to plan the wedding.
Alexa’s best friend, Nia Jax, disagreed, citing The Miz and Maryse as a couple who planned a wedding in a short amount of time. An argument ensued between the two women, which temporarily put their friendship in jeopardy. I personally agree with Alexa that Nia should have minded her own business, and not questioned her friend’s commitment to marriage. Her friend’s personal life should be her own business, with Nia’s only job being to support Alexa whatever decision she makes.
Meanwhile, Maryse threw a Sex and the City themed party to kickoff WWE’s second-biggest show of the year, SummerSlam. More drama is bound to ensue at the festivities, so tune in to next week’s episode of Total Divas.
16-time champion John Cena will be appearing at the Fastlane pay-per-view on March 11, a Smackdown-only show which is the last stop before WrestleMania 34.
Cena’s involvement is listed only as a “special guest appearance” and does not specify that he will be wrestling. The man who is rumored to be winning the Royal Rumble is a “free agent” after moving from Smackdown and can appear on both brands. Cena has been confirmed to be appearing on the Raw 25th anniversary show later this month.
The planned main event for Fastlane, revealed by the Nationwide Arena website itself, is Styles vs Zayn vs Owens vs Orton vs Nakamura in a five-way match for the WWE title.
Tickets for Fastlane are currently on sale at Ticketmaster.com.
Last night, the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies held a wrestling night during their game against the Washington Wizards with a ring set up on a platform way up high next to the bleachers inside the FedEx Forum.
WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler stepped in the ring to take on Jeff Jarrett, who is back doing his thing after exiting a two-month rehab stay just before Christmas. Jarrett won the exhibition match after hitting Lawler with a guitar shot to the back, winning the Grizzlyweight Championship title. After the match, Jarrett said he wants to defend the title again before he goes back to Nashville and out came former NFL player and Impact star DeAngelo Williams with Grizzlies’ mascot Super Grizz, who accepted the challenge. Super Grizz then pinned Jarrett to win the belt.
Before the entertainment started, the Grizzlies paid tribute to Memphis Wrestling commentator Lance Russell who passed away last year.
You can watch three videos from the night on the Memphis Grizzlies NBA website.
Former WWE and Impact star Christy Hemme will be undergoing a complicated surgery today to deliver her quadruplets.
In a video posted on YouTube, Hemme said that this will be a “super high-risk surgery” and after the babies are delivered, she will immediately undergo a second surgery which will insert a balloon in her uterus and then slowly bringing it down since it’s currently over-extended at the moment with the risk of blowing.
Hemme filmed the video while being stuck in a horizontal position and completely immobile due to the size of her belly and the position of her babies. She called this quadruple pregnancy the hardest thing she’s ever done in her life.
She said she’s very scared since there are so many unknowns and cannot predict how certain things will pan out but on the other hand she is very excited to meet her four new kids.
Hemme added that her daughter and the quadruplets will all share the same birthday. You can see her video below.
Impact Wrestling on Pop last night did a total of 309,000 viewers, up 24,000 viewers from last week’s broadcast and the best number since the August 17, 2017 episode. (Ratings credit: Showbuzzdaily.com)
With her rumored MMC partner Enzo out of the competition due to illness, Nia Jax got paired with former fellow NXT star Apollo Crews for the tournament.
The announcement of Crews, made by the hyped Titus O’Neil, did not go down well with Jax. But Crews and their sidekick Dana Brooke where super excited about the pairing, and so was Raw General Manager Kurt Angle. Jax didn’t want any part of the celebrations and told them not to touch her. As Titus, Crews, and Brooke celebrated, Jax walked out of the room.
