Dwayne Johnson refuses plea to return to Fast franchise, blasts Diesel’s “manipulation”

A month after Vin Diesel publicly called out Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to return to the final Fast & Furious movie to reprise the role of DS Special Agent Luke Hobbs, the former WWE champion publicly declined the invitation.

Calling him “my little brother Dwayne,” Diesel said the time has come to fulfill his promise to departed co-star Paul Walker and produce the best and last Fast movie.

“I say this out of love… but you must show up, do not leave the franchise idle you have a very important role to play. Hobbs can’t be played by no other. I hope that you rise to the occasion and fulfill your destiny,” Diesel wrote in an Instagram post which went viral.

The two had a very nasty fallout which saw Johnson exiting the franchise and creating his own spinoff with Hobbs & Shaw.

But in a interview with CNN, Johnson declined the invitation and said that the two reached an agreement in private months ago that he would not return and did not appreciate that Diesel brought up his kids or Walker’s death to try to lure him back.

“I told [Diesel] directly that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return,” Johnson said in the interview.

“Vin’s recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding.”

Johnson added that it was unfortunate that his time with the “incredible franchise” ended the way it did but he said he’s confident that the movie will deliver to the audience regardless.

“I truly wish my former co-stars and crew members the best of luck and success in the next chapter,” Johnson said.
