Tony Khan says he talked to NWA’s Billy Corgan over AEW National Championship

During a live feed on X, AEW President Tony Khan revealed that he recently had a conversation with Billy Corgan, who heads up the NWA, over the creation of the AEW National Championship.

NWA has the original National championship and when AEW announced the creation of the title, it ruffled some feathers.

“I have a lot of respect for him and a lot of respect for what he’s doing,” Khan said. “I really love the traditions of pro wrestling and I had a really nice talk with Billy and we hadn’t talked in a long time so I think it was good for him to hear this.”

Khan added that while he respects Corgan and the NWA, AEW is trying to do something completely different with the National Championship which will be defended across multiple promotions once the inaugural winner is determined at the upcoming Full Gear pay-per-view.

A Casino Gauntlet match at Full Gear will crown the inaugural AEW National champion.
