Title switches hands during Smackdown tapings

WWE splashed the news all over Twitter and WWE.COM late last night as Alberto Del Rio defeated the Big Show on Smackdown to become the new World Heavyweight champion.

The tapings were held in Miami, Florida, yesterday, the same place where Del Rio received a massive ovation the night after WrestleMania when he interrupted Sheamus. The program is set to air Friday night on SyFy.

Del Rio battled Big Show in a Last Man Standing match in the main event of the show which also had The Rock coming back to Smackdown for the first time since he left the company almost 10 years ago.

This is Del Rio’s first run as a World Heavyweight champion having previously been the WWE champion on two other separate occasions.
