Green vs Vega match finish on Smackdown changed after miscommunication

PWInsider.com is reporting that the finish to the Chelsea Green vs Zelina Vega that we saw on Smackdown was not the original finish which was supposed to happen.

Green was counted out and the match was awarded as a win to Vega as the United States champion unknowingly remained outside yelling at fans and the announce team while the referee counted to 10.

With the 10 count down, the referee had no other option but to stop the match as it would have looked very awkwardly on live television by pivoting. Once the count started, there was no way back.

PWInsider adds that after speaking with sources in the company, they were told that Green did not hear the referee counting and maybe believed that the 10-count was broken once Vega was back inside.

Referees are instructed to keep counting, even pinfalls, if someone doesn’t kick out as intended.
