Speaking on the Casual Conversations podcast, WWE Intercontinental champion Dominik Mysterio said it was “surreal” at WrestleMania to receive those loud cheers from the crowd just minutes after he was booed by the same crowd.
Dirty Dom won the Intercontinental title in a fatal four-way which also included then-champion Bron Breakker, his Judgment Day partner Finn Balor, and Penta.
“Walking out, getting booed, to walking back after the match to just endless amounts of cheers and just them singing this Dirty Dom song…dude, it was so, so surreal,” Dom said. “I never expected it. Especially the kind of reaction I got.”
Mysterio said it was a huge blessing for him, especially to walk out of the match with the gold, taking him less than five years to become “better than that deadbeat” father of his.
He said that his record at WrestleMania was 0-3 and all his previous Mania matches involved his father, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, so he blamed his record on his dad.
“So everything it had to do with him. So the fact that I was walking into this WrestleMania alone as myself, Dirty Dom, the greatest Mysterio of all time,” Dom said.
