Trick Williams wins the TNA World title at Battleground

The TNA World title is now in possession of an NXT star as Trick Williams, he himself a former NXT champion, dethroned the popular Joe Hendry at last night’s Battleground.

The match headlined the show, which was the first time ever that a TNA title match main evented an NXT show.

The ending of the match came after Hendry tried the Standing O finisher but Williams put his thumb in Hendry’s eye to break it. He then face-planted Hendry on the TNA World title, which was left in the ring after Williams tried multiple times to use it. Williams followed with a Trick Shot and pinned Hendry to win the title.

“Whoop that trick” chants filled the arena as history was made, with Williams becoming the first-ever WWE-contracted star to win the TNA title.

This ends Hendry’s 126-day reign as champion. He won it from Nic Nemeth at the Genesis pay-per-view this past January.
