Happy 5th birthday, WWE Network!

WWE Network is five years old today and with 1.59 million subscribers and over 11,500 hours of programming, the $9.99 price remains a fantastic offer for WWE fans around the world.

Announced on January 8, 2014 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas at a WWE event held at the Wynn Hotel and Casino, the WWE Network originally launched only in the United States as an over-the-top streaming service. The first live event screened on the WWE Network was NXT Arrival, held on February 27.

Later in 2014, the WWE Network launched in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore and a host of other countries and the United Kingdom finally got their Network in January 2015 after a few delays. By 2016, the Network was available in 186 countries with only a handful countries not getting the service.

While expectations of more subscribers fell short throughout the years, the WWE Network keeps a healthy and steady income for WWE. A multi-tier subscription is rumored to be on the horizon along with a total revamp of the Network GUI which has not changed since February 24, 2014.

To celebrate its fifth birthday, WWE Network will air a marathon of shows that originally aired when the service launched along with a collection of the best shows from the past five years.

Happy streaming!

Bruce Prichard hired again by WWE in full-time creative role

PWInsider.com is reporting that Bruce Prichard has returned to work for WWE on a full-time basis as one of the leading individuals in the creative team, reporting directly to Vince McMahon. Prichard’s new assignment begins this Monday on Raw.

This will be Prichard’s third stint with WWE, having worked previously between 1987 and 1991 as Brother Love and then between 1992 and 2008. Apart from being an on-screen character, he also had a backstage role in his second stint.

After leaving WWE in 2008, Prichard was hired by TNA in 2010 and assumed the role of Vice President of Talent Relations. He left in 2013 before shortly returning in 2017 but left after just five months. Last year he joined Major League Wrestling as a senior producer but now has also left MLW to focus solely on WWE.

His podcast Something To Wrestle With with Conrad Thompson is often regarded as one of the best podcasts on the Internet and WWE even picked up a series of episodes for the WWE Network last year.

The weekend estimate will be released tomorrow afternoon by BoxOfficeMojo.com.

Former Cruiserweight champion TJP addresses his sudden release from WWE

TJP used Twitter to address his release from WWE which came yesterday, just days after appearing on 205 Live. TJP did not ask for his release but was let go along with Tye Dillinger and Hideo Itami, who did ask for their contract to be terminated.

The former Cruiserweight champion said that he has been receiving a lot of messages, tweets, texts, e-mails, and phone calls and it was a bit overwhelming. “If I miss your message here I apologize. Many are expressing sadness, and thank you, but it’s ok,” he wrote.

“There’s nothing for me to be upset about. And I am very lucky to have been given a shot to play for that team. I’m very proud of my community and for better or worse would die on our sword every single time. What my culture means to me is worth it,” TJP continued, mentioning several times in earlier tweets that all he wanted was to represent the Filipino people.

“Thanks for giving me a chance and letting me play for the team I grew up watching,” he concluded, retweeting WWE’s tweet of his release.

Friends, family, and sports personalities attend surprise birthday party for Ric Flair

2-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair got a surprise birthday party last night at the 1818 Club Ballroom in Duluth, Georgia, where several high-profile sports stars and people from the world of professional wrestling all came together. The surprise party was thrown by his wife Wendy Barlow according to TMZ.

ESPN’s Arash Markazi was also invited and noted that individuals who were there for the party included Charles Barkley, Todd Gurley, Evander Holyfield, Dennis Rodman, Brad Nessler, Triple H, Ricky Steamboat, Michael PS Hayes, Shane McMahon, Chris Jericho, The Nasty Boys, Charlotte Flair, Booker T, and many others.

Flair’s arrival at the ballroom was captured on video by Markazi, showing an emotional Flair crying as soon as he enters the room with everyone chanting “Wooooo!” In typical Flair fashion, he also gave a 30-minute speech to cap things off!

WWE will be throwing another party – this time on live TV – for the Nature Boy on Monday Night Raw on February 25.

WWE releases three main roster Superstars and one big name producer

WWE has confirmed the release of three Superstars: Tye Dillinger, Hideo Itami, and TJP.

Both Dillinger and Itami requested their release over the past few weeks, a wish that was quickly granted by the company. TJP’s release was somewhat of a surprise and was on 205 Live this week. The departure of all three was announced on WWE.COM.

Meanwhile, ProWrestlingSheet.com is reporting that Arn Anderson is no longer working for WWE as a producer. It’s not know what led to the popular backstage figure to depart the company. He had been employed since 2001 after WWE took over WCW.

With the recent emergence of All Elite Wrestling offering similar contracts to that of WWE, many wrestlers are starting to see the good in alternative employment from WWE. Up until a few weeks ago when AEW did not really formally exist, not many took the chance of requesting their release from WWE.
