WWE will be using the whole month of June to celebrate the 20th year anniversary of John Cena’s WWE arrival.
Launching #CenaMonth, WWE’s social media platforms will be celebrating all-things John Cena with a brand-new episode of WWE Playback, Cena-themed editions of WWE Top 10 and WWE Playlist, a bevy of rare and unseen photos, tons of classic throwback videos, and much more.
Cena made his first televised appearance for WWE on June 27, 2002, answering Kurt Angle’s open challenge, slapping the Olympic gold medalist across the face, and ushering the Ruthless Aggression era.
Cena has since won 16 world titles, matching Ric Flair’s record but Hollywood came calling, putting the breaks on a possible 17th world title.
Rampage this past Friday from Las Vegas drew 340,000 viewers, down 70,000 viewers from the previous week. Once again the show did not air in its usual time slot and instead aired at 6:30PM ET due to NHL coverage on TNT. Rampage did 0.14 in the 18-49 demo, down 0.01 from the previous week. AEW announced that MJF will be at tonight’s Dynamite following a bumpy weekend which saw him skipping the AEW Fan Fest, forcing AEW to scramble and offer alternatives and refunds for those who already had a ticket for his meet and greet.
In a graphic posted on social media, AEW said we’ll hear from the 26-year-old.
The controversial star did show up at Double or Nothing and was on the receiving end of 10 powerbombs from Wardlow. MJF lost the match in a squash in under 8 minutes and was stretchered out of the arena.
Rumors are that MJF and AEW President Tony Khan met yesterday in Las Vegas to discuss the way forward after MJF repeatedly – and publicly – aired his frustrations with the situation about his contract. Khan refused to comment on what happened during the media scrum following the conclusion of the pay-per-view.
MJF appearing on Dynamite tonight is good news for AEW and certainly it would not have happened unless the meeting between the two parties didn’t go according to plan.
The biggest question mark was if this was an elaborate work, real-life, or a mixture of both. And with MJF, you never know!
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles are going to remain vacant as the company has decided to stop using them for the time being.
Sasha Banks and Naomi handed back their titles to John Laurinaitis a couple of weeks ago before walking out of a live Monday Night Raw after disagreements over creative. Both Sasha and Naomi were supposed to be wrestling for the Raw and Smackdown Women’s titles but the script called for both of them to lose. The two felt that as champions, they shouldn’t be used in that way and after a meeting with Vince McMahon went nowhere, both Superstars decided to quit.
WWE then announced that they would be holding a tournament to crown new champions but that tournament will be on hold for now.
Sasha and Naomi remain suspended indefinitely from WWE and there are no new updates regarding their status. Both of them have their contracts coming up in a few months but it’s likely that WWE will freeze them until they return.
The WWE Women’s Tag Team titles were established in late 2018 and they were defended across Raw, Smackdown, and NXT. The first winners – Bayley and Sasha Banks – were crowned champs at the Elimination Chamber in February 2019.
There have been a total of 10 different tag team champions across 13 reigns, with Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler having the most combined days as champions – 215.
The new WWE and A&E 9-week programming schedule will kick off on July 10. The four-hour block every Sunday will start with Biography: WWE Legends at 8PM ET, WWE Rivals at 10PM ET, and WWE Smack Talk at 11PM ET.
Biography: WWE Legends will feature rare archival footage and in-depth interviews with each episode exploring a different Legend. Those featured this season include The Undertaker, Goldberg, The Bella Twins, Lex Luger, Edge, Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio, D-Generation X and a look at the first-ever WrestleMania.
WWE Rivals will have former WWE writer and actor Freddie Prinze Jr. leading a roundtable discussion with each episode airing archival footage from WWE’s library as well as interviews with the Legends involved and the Superstars that watched these rivalries unfold. Rivalries featured this season include Steve Austin vs The Rock, Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker vs Kane, John Cena vs Edge and the Monday Night Wars.
Smack Talk will have Booker T, Peter Rosenberg and WWE host Jackie Redmond discuss the week’s biggest moments from Biography: WWE Legends and WWE Rivals and they will also reveal new information that didn’t make the cut. WWE Legends, current Superstars and other celebrities will also join as guests.
130 hours of new WWE shows will air exclusively on A&E platforms and will be distributed globally by parent company A+E Networks.
Friday Night Smackdown last week drew 1,878,000 viewers, down 153,000 viewers from the previous week and the least-watched episode since July 2, 2021. The show had massive competition from the NBA Playoffs which did over 7 million viewers on ESPN and the NHL Playoffs as well which did 1.6 million viewers.
In the 18-49 demo, Smackdown topped the night on network television with 0.43, down 0.02 from the prior week. No other show did more than a 0.29 head-to-head. WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett has confirmed the news that he has been hired as WWE’s newest Senior Vice President of Live Events.
Slightly touching the subject on his My World podcast with Conrad Thompson, Jarrett said that he’s a personal guy and likes to leave personal things personal but with the cat out of the bag, he confirmed the position he took at WWE.
“You know as well as anybody my passion is in live events. But I’ll just kind of leave that right there. It’s gonna be a journey that I’m excited about,” Jarrett said.
Jarrett replaces John Porco in the role, who this month got promoted to Executive Vice President of Live Events. Porco has been working for the company for the past 23 years.
It’s quite the turnaround for Jarrett, who in 1999 walked away with $300,000 from WWE for wrestling a final match against Chyna after his deal expired. Jarrett joined WCW immediately after but McMahon got the last laugh two years later when he fired Jarrett live on Raw during the simulcast following the WWE purchase of WCW.
Jarrett, who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018, will remain doing his podcast with Conrad Thompson.
The Owen Hart Foundation tournament title belts presented to Adam Cole and Britt Baker feature the same design of the Stampede Wrestling North American Heavyweight title.
The design was on purpose as a tribute to Owen and his old stomping grounds as Owen held the title twice in his career wrestling for his father’s promotion, both reigns coming in 1987.
The title was designed by Belts by Dan and feature the American and Canadian flags, the Owen Hart Foundation logo, an image of Owen Hart, and the year. The men’s title had a black strap with pink trim while the women’s title had a pink strap with black trim.
Belts by Dan also created the new AEW Women’s title, the TNT title, and the TBS title.
Jeff Hardy will not be part of Dynamite tomorrow night when the promotion makes its West Coast debut at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
Hardy was originally part of a 10-man tag match announced for Dynamite which saw him teaming up with his brother Matt, Jurassic Express, and Christian to take on Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, Bobby Fish, and The Young Bucks.
But Hardy is said to be not in a good physical condition and was visibly off during the Double or Nothing match on Sunday, with injuries creeping up on him.
As a result of his condition, Hardy was pulled from the match and so was his Owen Hart Foundation tournament opponent Adam Cole. The match is now an eight-man tag match.
Jeff has taken some wicked bumps lately since joining AEW and his match against Darby Allin did not help things.
Season two of Young Rock wrapped up last week on NBC and the show got a major dent in its weekly ratings and demo numbers compared to the previous season.
Season two averaged 2,152,000 viewers over 12 episodes and a 0.38 rating in the 18-49 demo. That is down considerably from the 3,036,000 viewers average of last season and a 0.59 rating in the 18-49 demo.
Despite the drop, Young Rock was renewed for season three but NBC has put it in the Friday night death slot and will go head-to-head with Smackdown on FOX for 30 minutes when the new season resumes.
Becky Lynch had to backtrack on a line she delivered last night on Raw after quickly realizing she stole Chris Jericho’s current gimmick!
“I have superhuman powers. I’m a wizard,” Lynch said during commentary, explaining how she made Bianca Belair’s title disappear quickly at SummerSlam last year. She then said she’s actually a magician and not a wizard.
WWE’s social media team even posted the wizard quote, but Lynch corrected them.
“I’m a magician. I made her title disappear in 26 seconds,” Lynch wrote. “I preferred that line.”
She then jokingly addressed Chris Jericho.

AEW star Jake Atlas was arrested last week in Orlando and charged with misdemeanor battery. The victim of the domestic assault is his partner.
Atlas was arrested on May 23 when police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at nearly 1AM. The incident happened the night before when Atlas was out drinking with friends and needed a lift back so he called his partner.
According to the police report, after his partner arrived, Atlas wanted him to remain there drinking and then go home with another friend for more fun.
An argument then erupted after Atlas was upset that his partner was showing more attention to their friend, rather than him, and became physically aggressive and attacked him.
Atlas was arrested inside the apartment he shares with his partner after multiple attempts at trying to make him leave.
He did not stay long in jail as he was bailed out later in the day but he is set to appear in court on June 28 in Orange County. He also had to sign a no contact and no communication order and was ordered to stay at least 500 feet away from the victim.
He is currently out recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL which he suffered after he signed with AEW in January.
Two more matches were added to the Hell In A Cell card yesterday on Monday Night Raw.
United States champion Theory will be defending his title against Mustafa Ali and a six-person mixed tag match will see Edge, Damian Priest, and Rhea Ripley take on AJ Styles, Finn Balor, and Liv Morgan.
It’s interesting to note that this Hell In A Cell premium live event features six matches from the Raw brand so far and none from Smackdown.
There’s also only one Hell In A Cell match, with Cody vs Rollins. Usually there’s also a women’s Hell In A Cell but it has been missing from the card this year.
Raw opens on Memorial Day with Becky Lynch coming to the ring. Lynch says she has been against all odds before and was interrupted by Asuka, and then by Bianca Belair. Bianca says she is 100% sure the championship isn’t going anywhere.
Lynch then attacks Belair, but Belair got her up in the air and then falls onto the apron and Asuka butts her off the apron.

Lynch back on commentary. Action spills out of the ring both ladies are down as we go to break. Back from break, Asuka ends up out of the ring and Lynch making fun of her for apparently hurting her knee. Belair throws Asuka back inside then goes after Lynch verbally. Gets in the ring and gets nailed by Asuka but only a 2 count. Belair goes for a moonsault off the handstand, but Asuka moves out of the way and hooks Belair attempting an arm bar type maneuver, but Belair overpowers Asuka and holds her down for the 3 count.
After the match, Lynch attacks Belair and throws her out of the ring and then sets her sights on Asuka. Belair gets back in the ring and Lynch slams her too. Lynch backs up the ramp with Belair and Asuka struggling to get back to their feet in the ring.

And now he got the call to get his second chance in WWE against Seth Rollins and he had to come out of it with a win. Cody says he is going to be locked in Hell in a Cell with Seth Rollins and wants to hurt Rollins.
Seth Rollins comes out through the crowd laughing, Seth says its simple, “I don’t like you”.
Seth says, “You left WWE 6 years ago because you weren’t good enough and you and your little friends tried to tear down what I was helping build and when that didn’t work out you came back. The prodigal son returns home. Well, you can’t smash the throne and come back and try to take that throne back from me.”
Cody then says nothing is stopping this from happening now and Rollins said let’s go and acted like he was heading to the ring but said he will see Cody Sunday. Cody jumped out of the ring and jumped the guardrail, and the fight was on.
Cody then spears Rollins through the barricade. As they got up swinging, the officials came running out to break up the fight. Rollins breaks free, rolls through the ring and jumped on Rhodes again. The officials finally push Rhodes through the back, but Rhodes come running back and jumps on Rollins again. Fans chanted “This is Awesome!”

Contract signing for Bobby Lashley VS. Omos & M.V.P. for Sunday at Hell in a Cell is next.
After the contract is signed and they toss the table to the side, Pearce calls for security which doesn’t help and in comes Cedric Alexander that backflips and kicks Lashley in the head. As Omos continues to beat down Lashley, Omos sets up a table in a corner of the ring and as Omos goes to slam Lashley, Lashley slides down his back and pushes him toward the table, Omos stops and turns around and Lashley spears Omos through the table.
The red brand’s final stop before Hell In A Cell takes place tonight on Monday Night Raw on Memorial Day.
Announced for tonight is a contract signing between Bobby Lashley, Omos, and MVP as the three will be in a 2-on-1 handicap match come Sunday in Chicago. Contract signings typically don’t end in a simple signature on the dotted line so expect some chaos with this one.
