Roman Reigns teases appearance by The Rock at SummerSlam

In an interview with FoxSports.com, Roman Reigns hinted that we might see a surprise appearance from his cousin, The Rock, at SummerSlam.

Asked whether we’ll see The Rock at the pay-per-view in 10 days time, the former Shield member answered, “I wanna tell you, but I don’t want to give anything away.” The Rock was last seen on WWE television at WrestleMania 31 where he also made a surprise appearance to confront Triple H and Stephanie McMahon and introduced some backup in the form of Ronda Rousey.

The Barclays Center loves the people’s champion as the Brooklyn fans gave The Rock a massive ovation when he showed up unannounced on Raw to face off with Rusev and Lana in October of last year.

Linda McMahon visits the WWE Performance Center

Former WWE CEO and Senate candidate for the Republican party Linda McMahon visited the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, yesterday, her first trip to the state-of-the-art facility.

“So cool to see WWE’s newest innovation, training the next generation of Divas and Superstars,” McMahon wrote on Twitter, adding several photos of the tour she received from her son-in-law Triple H.

McMahon, who is no longer involved with the WWE ever since she decided the enter the political arena, said that she is “incredibly proud” that the WWE performers of today and tomorrow have such a facility where to train.

Linda is rarely seen around WWE shows unless they’re in Connecticut or it is a big event like WrestleMania. She last worked for the company she owns with her husband in 2009 and made an appearance at the Hall of Fame last year to induct the Ultimate Warrior.

Chyna confronts Triple H at Roddy Piper’s funeral

Former DX member Sean “X-Pac” Waltman wrote on Twitter that Chyna bumped into Triple H during the Roddy Piper funeral on Tuesday in an attempt to open dialogue.

“She bum rushed Hunter & said ‘Sorry for Everything,’” Waltman wrote on Twitter, adding that the move was pretty “pathetic.” He noted that Chyna was very close to being taken down by security although he is not sure if she knew it or not. He said that the whole confrontation lasted around 20 seconds.

In a previous tweet, Waltman alluded that Chyna “crashed” the funeral service although he then deleted that tweet and said she was actually invited and apologized for using that word. Chyna and X-Pac are not on best terms at the moment after she accused X-Pac of raping her in the past to film their sex tape. X-Pac, who was listening to the show Chyna was on when she made the remark, called live and confronted her on the air about labeling him as a rapist.

Roman Reigns comments on briefcase incident

Roman Reigns commented about the incident from over the weekend where a fan threw a Money In The Bank replica briefcase and hit him in the head during the non-televised in Victoria, BC.

“I was confused at first. I thought Bray hit me in the head with the kendo stick. So immediately I was like, ‘Aww man. You’re about to get it, brother,’” Reigns told the Miami Herald. He then realized that it wasn’t Bray who hit him after he saw the briefcase in the ring.

Reigns had good stuff to say about the WWE security personnel who immediately pin pointed the person who threw the briefcase. “He was escorted out, briefly after, and luckily for me, [the briefcase] was plastic, so it didn’t hurt, but it’s scary. What if it was something that could have hurt me. Hit me in the eye,” Reigns said, adding that the 31 year old fan just made a bad choice.

“I’m a character and a sports entertainer and a wrestler, but I’m also a father and a husband and a provider. So for me that’s scary, because I’m just going out there to put on a good show and provide for my family and take care of my future, and if somebody takes that away from me… For what? For 10 seconds of Internet fame. That’s tough to deal with. That’s hard to process,” Reigns concluded.

The fan who threw the briefcase in the ring was banned from all future WWE shows although the company did not press charges against him.

The Global Force Wrestling invasion on Impact starts tonight

The TNA vs GFW invasion angle starts on tonight’s Impact Wrestling and TNA is now shying away from promoting it on their website and social media properties.

Jeff Jarrett is the new law around TNA after Bully Ray left the company almost immediately and the King of the Mountain champion is brining his Global Force Wrestling roster with him.

Three matches have been announced on ImpactWrestling.com for tonight’s show including Tigre Uno vs Sonjay Dutt, The Wolves vs Trevor Lee and Brian Myers, and Awesome Kong vs Lei’D Tapa. The King of the Mountain title will also be defended in the main event in a King of the Mountain match.

The invasion angle is being seen as a last-ditch effort to save TNA on Destination America while Jeff Jarrett is still shopping around for a network for his GFW project.

Men’s Journal gets a behind-the-scenes tour of the WWE Performance Center

Men’s Journal has a very interest behind-the-scenes video look at the WWE Performance Center, WWE’s state of the art 26,000 square foot warehouse located in Orlando, Florida.

Those interviewed for the video include Enzo Amore, Colin Cassidy, Sasha Banks, Tyler Breeze, and head trainer Matt Bloom. The video shows how those under developmental deals train in the seven rings, cutting promos in front of a green screen, the sophisticated technology behind the whole warehouse that enables people in Stamford to see what’s going on 24/7, the rehab and medical room, and much more.

It’s probably the behind-the-scenes look on video that anyone has ever gotten of the WWE Performance Center so far and you can check it out below.

Cena vs Rollins made official for SummerSlam 2015

WWE.COM has confirmed that the WWE World Heavyweight title match at SummerSlam will indeed be Seth Rollins taking on John Cena.

Cena appeared on last night’s Tough Enough and apart from a black eye which was still a bit visible, the United States champion looked pretty good although he might have to wear some protective mask due to the recently-repaired broken nose.

The match at SummerSlam will be for both titles so the winner of the match will walk out with the WWE World Heavyweight title and the United States title, unless of course there’s a disqualification or a count out finish. If Cena wins, he will tie Ric Flair’s record of 16 world title reigns.

There are now seven matches on the card.

Raw rating for 08/10/2015

Monday Night Raw this week drew an average of 3,837,000 viewers, up from last week’s 3,702,000 number and the best rating since June 15.

Hour one started with 3,791,000 viewers and then went slightly down to 3,775,000 in the second hour, before bouncing back to 3,947,000 in the third and final hour. (Ratings credit: TV By The Numbers)

Tough Enough episode 8 report

The August 11th edition of WWE’s Tough Enough had to be, without a shadow of a doubt, the best episode of the season (save for maybe the pre-show special).  This week, we finally had the opportunity to see what we’ve all been waiting for all season long: actual wrestling!

All hands were on deck for this week’s episode as we were greeted by Chris Jericho back in the barracks, following last week’s live vote.  Coming loaded with a couple pizza pies, Jericho wanted to take the opportunity to talk with the remaining contestants on a more personal level to see if he could spark a fire inside each of them as they approach their final few weeks.

It was a low-stress discussion about each of the competitors’ opinions on how they and their housemates were connecting with the audience, which ended with everyone sharing their favorite WWE matches.  Surprisingly, nobody mentioned the slobberknocker between Melina and Alicia Fox from a 2010 episode of Monday Night Raw made famous by Ariane Andrews (Cameron).

The pow-wow concluded with Jericho rallying the drinkers of the house for what promised to be an all night affair.  It was really cool to see how down to earth Jericho was, having no problem sleeping over with a group of relative strangers and just kicking back with a ton of hard alcohol.

The Art of Storytelling

Before heading off to the Performance Center for their first challenge, we find that apparently both Chris Jericho and Tanner each polished off a bottle of hard liquor themselves.  How Tanner even had the stomach to get up and compete that day is baffling to me!

The theme of this week’s challenge in storytelling.  After lecturing the group on the art of storytelling, they’re all paired off into groups and are given an hour to come up with a backstory and a match, which they’ll then perform later that day.

The three groups consisted of:

  • Tanner and GiGi
  • ZZ and Josh
  • Sara and Amanda

During the prep phase, the coaches made it a point to help each group out and give them pointers on what would work and what wouldn’t.  After the hour was up, the competitors were introduced to their live audience – the entire NXT roster!

Each of the matches were surprisingly entertaining, despite basically following the same formula with a very minimal moveset.  Having not seen any real wrestling from the cast over the last 8 weeks, I had anticipated that they’d look incredibly sloppy in the ring (a sentiment Chris Jericho would echo later in the live portion of the show).

The NXT roster also did a great job of popping for the competitors, booing and cheering when they were supposed to, which you could clearly seeing invigorated the people in the ring.

The coaches had mostly positive feedback for all of the contestants after their matches were complete, save for a few nit-picking items.  Booker T, however, was extremely aggravated with Sara Lee and the fact that she wouldn’t wipe the smile off of her face.  He had a minor flip out on her, which resulted in her getting “last” of the group.

The judges unanimously dubbed Josh as the best individual performer of the day.  He looked comfortable, confident, and believable in the ring.  Aside from just having a very good overall look, he seemed to really know how to add his personality into the match.

And Then There Were Five

Before getting to the live voting, there was a brief segment where GiGi and Amanda were in the barracks talking about some of the nasty things people write on Twitter.  They went so far as to read off some of their mean tweets to one another, in a nod to Jimmy Kimmel.  It was both vulgar and hilarious!

The WWE Execs were definitely looking to boost the ratings on this week’s episode as the live show played host to WWE US Champion John Cena.  After being introduced, he went on a rather long rant about how he loves the show and thinks it’s one of the best on TV.  After his obligatory plug for SummerSlam and confirmation that he’d be in the match with Rollins, he gave a passionate speech to the competitors about believing in themselves.  He compared the journey of a traditional NXT recruit to the Tough Enough competitors, saying that the NXT recruits can succeed and fail in private – a luxury the Tough Enough cast do not have.

Just before the nomination ceremony, the judges all give feedback to each of the competitors.  They’re noticeably more tame than they have been in previous weeks, but nevertheless make it fairly obvious who they’re going to place in the bottom three.  The official nominations were:

  • The Miz nominates Tanner on account that he’s still not showing any personality in the ring (despite commending him on doing everything he’s told, very well)
  • Paige nominates Sara Lee, upholding her previous promise to Sara that she’ll nominate her every week until she sees that Sara is actually stepping up
  • Daniel Bryan surprisingly nominates GiGi for very similar reasons to The Miz’ selection of Tanner, saying that GiGi isn’t playing her character role right (she was booed by the NXT roster when she was supposed to be playing a baby face)

After the votes were tallied, Sara Lee once again ran away with the popular vote, which left GiGi the one being sent home. GiGi immediately burst out into tears and pleaded with Renee Young not to interview her right away.

As all the competitors did before her, she promised her journey wasn’t over.

Assorted Musings

  • Despite this being the best episode – it’s probably my shortest write-up.  Credit that to the fact that almost the entire show was split between the three wrestling matches.  Well worth checking out, if you haven’t!
  • I was a big fan of Sara Lee coming into this competition, because I thought she wasn’t being given a fair shake against the other model-type girls.  But as the weeks progress, Sara continues to look lost and unsure of herself.  I was quite angry to see GiGi go home as she really was one of the top girls from the start.  But Sara has ZZ-syndrome.  She’s adored by the fans and there was no way she’d ever get sent home.
  • Speaking of which, there was a lot of discussion about ZZ’s work ethic during Tough Talk.  You can tell that both Josh and Tanner are a bit nervous as they’ll be put up next to ZZ next week to determine the final two.  ZZ spent the entire episode delivering quite possibly the biggest arsenal of quips I’ve ever heard come out of a man in my life.  He was spewing things that made absolutely no sense — but the crowd continuously popped for him every single time.  Had it not been for Josh doing the “big guy domination” thing in their match, which allowed ZZ to rest almost the entire time, I’m certain he would’ve flopped.  It’s a shame to think that Tanner or Josh – both guys who can legitimately win this thing – will be leaving next week.
  • Which brings me to the last point of my rant.  I’m not sure how the finale will work once they’re down to the final two males and females.  If they leave the final vote up to the fans, your winners will undoubtedly be ZZ and Sara Lee.  There’s not even a question about it, as they’ve both receiving no less than 45% of the votes every time they’ve been on the chopping block.  I’m curious, however, if the WWE pulls a curve ball and allows the judges, coaches, and hosts to make the final determination.  In which case, your winners will undoubtedly be Josh (assuming Tanner gets the lowest votes next week) and Amanda.  It’s quite amazing to see the disconnect between casual fans and wrestling fans!

That’s it for me this week!  We only have two more weeks together before we wrap up this season of Tough Enough.  I’d love to hear some of your picks for the winners on Twitter at @suggafnshane, using the hashtag #WrestlingOnline.

Until next time!

Ethan Carter III gets same-sex kiss on the lips during indy event

TNA champion Ethan Carter III performed in front of a few dozen fans over the weekend at an Ace Anarchy independent show and ended up leaving the ring with a kiss from another male wrestler.

After winning his match against Ricky Reyes, Ace Anarchy’s Sonny Kiss came down to the ring and held a “twerk off” with the TNA champion. EC3 did not like that Kiss was out-twerking him and decided to give him a low blow…however the low blow did not work on Sonny. After realizing that the move was ineffective, EC3 started to back up however Sonny grabbed him and planted a long kiss on his lips much to the enjoyment of the fans.

Arrow’s Stephen Amell finally gets his wish on Raw

Stephen Amell, star of The CW’s Arrow television series, described last night as his best night ever following his involvement on Monday Night Raw.

Amell was sitting at ringside and was shoved by Stardust after the Neville vs King Barrett match. This time, Amell responded, jumped the security wall, hopped over the top rope and speared Stardust before following with some ground and pound. WWE security then came over and held Amell back as fans chanted “let them fight.”

On Twitter, Amell told former WWE champion Edge that he hoped he didn’t mind that he borrowed his move. “If anyone needs me I’ll be trying to figure out a way for this day to never end,” he added.

The 34 year old life-long WWE fan then had a backstage segment with Triple H, delivering his lines like a true superstar and asking for a tag team match at SummerSlam, a match which he got. Amell had been campaigning for a spot on WWE television for months.

Several mainstream media websites covered Amell’s involvement on Raw including Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, Comicbook.com, Yahoo! News, and more. You can watch the full segment below.

Rousey has “no clue” when she’ll be back in WWE, but will find a way

During an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey repeated her desire to do more professional wrestling following her cameo at WrestleMania 31 with The Rock.

When asked about if she’d consider doing WWE after she retires from the Octagon, Rousey replied, “Definitely. I loved being in WrestleMania and will find a way to get back in the squared circle I just have no clue when.” Rousey then added, ”And any real wrestling fan would want to be surprised anyway.”

When someone else decided to have some fun with Rousey and ask her how big “Batista’s dick” is, Rousey had the prefect answer! “I don’t know but I’d imagine that Bluetista has a lot of patience,” she replied, adding a smiley at the end! The Bluetista name was given to Batista after he showed up at the 2014 Payback pay-per-view wearing all-blue wrestling gear.
