Smackdown! Live TV report for 02/07/2017

We are just five nights away from Elimination Chamber, this Sunday! On that show, we have three-out-of-four championships on the line with the Tag Team championships in a tag team turmoil match, Alexa Bliss putting her Women’s championship on the line against Naomi, and the WWE championship in an Elimination Chamber match. Who will gain the momentum tonight for both bouts? As well, WWE champion John Cena takes on Randy Orton tonight; could this be the same match we will see at WrestleMania XXXIII?

All the above, and my predictions after, as we have the final build to Elimination Chamber! Read on!

Tuesday Night Smackdown! Live Television Report for February 7, 2017

Introduction: Video Promo

A montage of WWE Champion John Cena’s and #1 Contender Randy Orton’s career/history is put together to hype their match for tonight’s Smackdown!

Arena Promo

We go live to the arena in Seattle, Washington. The hometown boy, and General Manager, Daniel Bryan makes his grand entrance! (Of course, the crowd chants his name loud and proud.) He is happy to “be home,” and recounts that just-about one year ago (February 8th, 2016) is when he announced his in-ring retirement, also here in Seattle. 366 days later (leap year!), he is happy to make the action happen for Smackdown! Live, and that he will be a father.

The Miz, along with Maryse, suddenly interrupt. He mocks Bryan’s retirement and fatherhood. He questions Daniel still being around WWE, to which Bryan replies “well, to be fair, not being able to wrestle never stopped you from getting in the ring!” (Line of the night!) Miz accuses Bryan of not respecting him, and the crowd starts again with chants of Daniel’s name. Miz gets frustrated and gets into it with them. Bryan eggs the fans on, until Baron Corbin walks out.

“The Lone Wolf” orders Miz to “learn to shut-up.” Miz tries to form an alliance; “my mind, your might,” but Corbin doesn’t go for it. Miz wants Daniel to stop Baron, but Bryan sarcastically responds. “Oh, no, Baron, please don’t punch Miz in the face; that would be terrible.” Miz backs to the corner and takes Maryse with him.

Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose now joins, poking fun at both Corbin and Miz, and then declares he will be both the WWE and Intercontinental Champion at Elimination Chamber. Former WWE Champion A.J. Styles interjects and says that he has beaten all three men in the ring (Baron, Miz, and Dean), and then, after also being flustered by the fans calling his name, says he will be the WWE Champion.

Before this goes further, Bryan books a Fatal-4-Way between all, starting now!

Match #1: Fatal-4-Way – The Miz (with Maryse) VS. Baron Corbin VS. Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose VS. A.J. Styles (Non-Title)

They stare at each other, and then Miz asks Baron to team-up. Corbin shakes his head no, and then they all go at it. A.J. is knocked out of the ring and Miz waits with Maryse on the floor. Ambrose soon dumps Baron outside, and then disposed of both Miz and A.J.

A bit later, Miz, A.J., and Dean trade roll-ups for twos! Miz and A.J. clothesline each other, and then Dean rolls-up Baron for two! They clothesline each other and they are all laid-out!

Commercials.

Miz is trying to superplex Ambrose from the top turnbuckle, but A.J. goes up to help. Baron gets back in and grabs both Miz and Styles, giving them a powerbomb while Ambrose is superplexed! (Tower of Doom!) Miz now kicks away at Corbin in the corner and then runs at A.J. in the opposite corner with a dropkick. He runs at Baron, but is caught in the Deep-Six Slam! 1 – 2 – Miz just gets his shoulder up! A.J. hits a Pele Kick and a forearm for two! He tries The Styles Clash, but Miz counters with a flapjack, and then a running knee-to-the-face!

Dean gets fired up on both Miz and A.J., and then knocks Baron off of the apron. He follows with a Tope Suicida, and then kicks A.J. as he slung himself over the ropes! He runs Styles into the corner of the barricade, and then crotches Miz on the barricade; he runs Corbin into the ring post too! He ascends the turnbuckle and dives off with an elbow for a two until A.J. stops it! Ambrose goes for his Dirty Deeds DDT, but Styles works out of it and springs off of the middle rope with a moonsault-reverse-DDT! Miz breaks up the subsequent pin, and then signals for the Skull-Krushing Finale. A.J. gets out of it and springboards off of the top rope with a Phenomenal Forearm!

Maryse yanks her husband out of the ring, and Styles turns around into an End of Days slam! Baron covers and receives the victory!

Winner via Pinfall: Baron Corbin

Later tonight, there will be “dual contract signings” between Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss and Naomi, and Mick James and Becky Lynch.

Luke Harper appears on screen, amid a darkened room with hanging lights. “They say man is most dangerous when he has nothing left to lose. But what about a man who never had anything to begin with? Randy Orton, you stole my family; you are a liar; and I’ve seen ‘the snake in the grass’ for far, far too long, and I know how to fix it. But cutting the head off the viper is just too easy. No, I want to hurt you. I want you to feel pain, and Randy Orton, at Elimination Chamber, you will be eliminated.”

Video Promo

Tom Phillips interviews both Nikki Bell and Natalya about their rivalry, which leads up to their match at Elimination Chamber. Tom says they are separated on screen due to the recent brawls between them. Phillips asks them if they will ever be friends after all of this. Nikki says “the Nattie that I knew and loved is dead to me.” Natalya retorts that “Nikki has no friends; Nikki has followers.” She threatens “there’s going to be no amount of makeup that will cover up what I’m going to do to Nikki at Elimination Chamber.” They both argue about the recent history between them, and Natalya finishes by saying John Cena would’ve picked her if she wasn’t already married.

Up next, Apollo Crews wrestles Dolph Ziggler!

Commercials.

Match #2: Single – Apollo Crews VS. Dolph Ziggler

Crews starts off big with a dropkick and slugs in the corner, but Dolph hits back with a leaping-DDT! He goes for the superkick but Apollo grabs his leg and reverses into a roll-up for the sudden 1 – 2 – 3!

Winner via Pinfall: Apollo Crews

Post-match, Ziggler kicks Crews from behind and then collects a chair, whacking Apollo on his back. The fans chant “one more time,” and Dolph does it again. Kalisto runs out and kicks Ziggler down. He goes for Solida-Del-Sol, but Dolph drops him on the top rope. He take the chair and his Apollo again, to the delight of the fans.

Commercials.

Backstage Promo

GM Bryan walks up and wonders why Dolph did that out in the ring; Ziggler claims he is fine to do that and that he can even beat both Apollo Crews and Kalisto at the same time. Daniel takes him up on that and books him against both at Elimination Chamber.

Arena Promo

Renee Young is in the ring and brings out Mickie James, Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, Becky Lynch, and Naomi. Young tries to put them all over as “elite female athletes,” but Mickie says only her and Alexa are the “elite” ones. She dismisses Rene and conducts this herself.

“This entire Women’s Division was built on my obsession. My obsession to be the absolute best. And you, Becky, are trying to erase my past. You are trying to take all the credit for this ‘Women’s Revolution.’ I have waited for seven-long-years. That is seven years of rage that has built up inside of me to come back into this WWE ring and get the credit that I deserve. So you see, this Sunday, I am going to prove that I not only created this ‘Women’s Revolution,’ but I created you. Let’s face it, honey, without Mickie James, there would be no Becky Lynch. And this Sunday, it’s all going to come to an end, because you see, this Sunday, this reinvention of Mickie James starts with the destruction of Becky Lynch.” James puts pen-to-paper.

Lynch retorts that “no one is trying to erase your accomplishments.” She says that she “respected the hell out of you,” but that changed when she aligned herself with Alexa. She also lost respect when James returned, expecting to pick up where she left off, while Lynch has worked for all she has gotten. She signs the contract.

Bliss tries to put Becky in her place, and claims the Women’s Division as her own whenever the Championship is “on my shoulder.” She also quickly rejects Naomi, and proclaims she will defeat her on Sunday. Naomi takes umbrage and wants to be the Women’s Champion by WrestleMania, so she can walk in to her hometown of Orlando, Florida, as the titlist. She then kicks Alexa in the head and they all brawl. Naomi dives over the ropes with a plancha onto Bliss and James! Her and Becky stand in the ring as Alexa and Mickie back up the aisle.

Commercials.

Match #3: The Vaudevillians (Simon Gotch and Aiden English), The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor), and The Usos (Jimmy and Jey) VS. Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango), Heath Slater and Rhyno, and Tag-Team Champions American Alpha (Jason Jordan and Chad Gable) (Non-Title)

The heels – Vaudevillians and crew – dominate for a while.

Commercials.

This eventually breaks down, and after Rhyno hits Konnor with a Gore, Viktor dives off of the turnbuckle with a knee to Rhyno’s face; he then takes this for his team!

Winners via Pinfall: The Vaudevillians, The Ascension, and The Usos

Randy Orton and John Cena’s moments from this year’s Royal Rumble, and then the hype of the Elimination Chamber airs.

WWE Champion John Cena and Randy Orton, with Bray Wyatt, make their respective entrances, and the main-event is next!

Commercials.

Match #4: Single – Randy Orton (with Bray Wyatt) VS. WWE Champion John Cena (Non-Title)

They circle each other and Cena ducks a lockup-try! Orton clasps a standing side-headlock, and Cena whips him off of the ropes into a shoulder-tackle. John now clamps on a standing side-headlock, and then gives Randy a shoulder-block off of the ropes. He tries his Attitude Adjustment, but Orton gets out of it and kicks Cena hard in the gut. Randy slows this down with a couple of punches and then another headlock. He puts John to the floor and whips him into the steel steps soon after.

Commercials.

Cena is going for the Five-Knuckle-Shuffle fistdrop, but Orton counters. They both counter their finishers and Randy plants John with a full-nelson slam! 1 – 2 – Cena gets his shoulder up! Orton sets up John for the Draping DDT, but Cena reverses, back-dropping Orton to the floor! He tries an A.A. onto the announcer’s table, but Randy drops out and backdrops John onto the table!

Back in the ring, they trade blows, and then the WWE Champion is eventually able to drop Randy to the canvas with the Attitude Adjustment! 1 – 2 – Orton just lifts his shoulder! Cena goes to the top turnbuckle, but Randy catches him and plants him with a DDT! “The Viper” signals for the R.K.O. and hits it! 1 – 2 – John just lifts his shoulder!

Cena goes for another A.A., but backs into the referee, knocking him out of the ring. John traps Orton in the STF and Orton taps! Bray enters and starts attacking Cena, and he sets up for Sister Abigail. John gets out of it and clotheslines Orton, but then turns into a Sister Abigail. Luke Harper runs down and faces-off with Wyatt!

Bray tries to control Luke but Harper hits him with the Discus Clothesline! Randy slides back in and goes for an R.K.O. but Luke shoves him off into an A.A.! Cena covers and the referee is recovered to award the victory!

Winner via Pinfall: WWE Champion John Cena

Post-match, John nods Luke and then celebrates. He holds up his “Never Give Up” towel and tells us “win every fight ‘till the end,” and then salutes the crowd to close the show.

End of Smackdown! Live

Reporter’s Rumblings

This was a pretty-decent Smackdown!, given that it was a “go-home show,” and a lot of those can be throwaways before the Pay-Per-Views. I am still loving the pacing of Smackdown! though and the way the rivalries play out! Onto the particulars:

Excellence: matches between Miz/A.J./Corbin/Ambrose and Cena/Orton. Promos from Miz/Corbin/A.J., Orton/Cena (video), Harper, a chunk of Nattie/Natalya, and Mickie/Alexa/Becky.

Baron Corbin has really stepped it up as-of-late on the mike; he has made me interested again (not really since his NXT days was I), and I can see him having a big match at WrestleMania; perhaps him VS. Miz, A.J., and Dean for the I.C. Title?

Harper also has great mike skills and I hope they let him talk more. While some will say he’s kind of the same as Bray in the meanings/ways he delivers his message, he can still deliver very-well and keeps me interested!

The Ascension getting the win! This throws a little unpredictability into the Tag Team Turmoil, which is great!

Bogus: while I like Nikki’s oratory skills, I just can’t stand Nattie’s. Unfortunately, I think it’s something to do with her voice and her delivery; I ignore/fast-forward when I can.

Disappointed that Apollo got the win over Dolph so quickly, and that the feud between Dolph and Jerry “The King” Lawler has not gone past their promo on Smackdown! about a month ago. Ziggler is better than Kalisto and Apollo, so he should be on a hot “mean-streak.” As well, it makes no sense for him to say that he can defeat both when he was just defeated by only one!

Elimination Chamber Predictions: Mickie over Becky with nefarious means; Alexa defeats Naomi with help from Mickie, and then the two (Alexa and Naomi) continue to WrestleMania, where Naomi wins there; The Ascension win Tag-Titles, and begin a pretty-decent feud with American Alpha into WrestleMania; Orton over Harper to keep Randy strong for ‘Mania; Dolph does defeat Apollo and Kalisto; Bray Wyatt wins WWE Championship, and then Cena, him, and Orton Triple-Threat at ‘Mania, where Cena wins record 17th WWE World Championship, and celebrates with Ric Flair to close the show.

If you’re watching Elimination Chamber, enjoy! Until next Tuesday, Be Excellent Wrestling-Online Fans!

Dwayne Johnson and WWE Studios teaming up for movie based on Paige’s family

Deadline.com is reporting that Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions company is teaming up with Misher Films, WWE Studios and Film4 to produce an upcoming feature film Fighting With My Family, based on the true story of WWE Superstar Paige and her family of professional wrestlers.

The comedy-drama is set to be written and directed by Stephen Merchant. The Rock will play a yet-to-be-determined role in the film while Florence Pugh will star as Paige and Jack Lowden will play her brother Zak. Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia will exec produce while Kevin Misher of Misher Films will produce alongside WWE Studios President Michael Luisi. WWE Studios are co-financing the film with Film4, who have developed the project from its inception. It’s expected to begin shooting in Los Angeles and London this month.

According to Deadline, the synopsis of the movie reads, ”The film follows the story of reformed gangster and former wrestler Ricky, his wife Julia, daughter Saraya and son Zak who make a living performing in tiny venues across the country. Ricky and Julia want a better life for their children and when brother and sister get the chance to audition for the WWE, it seems the family dream is coming true and all their troubles will be solved. However, Saraya and Zak are about to learn that becoming a WWE Superstar demands more than they ever imagined possible as athletes and siblings.”

“Back in 2012, I was in my hotel room in London and stumbled across a documentary on a local UK channel,” said Johnson. “Not only was I intrigued by this loving and wild family, but I also felt it’s the kind of narrative that would make an amazing movie. The Knights’ journey is a universal one that all families are familiar with. I relate to Saraya (Paige) and her wrestling family on such a personal level and it means so much that I can help tell their story.”

Brock Lesnar shows up after Raw and issues an open challenge

While Brock Lesnar was not on Raw last night, he did appear with Paul Heyman after the show went off the air much to the surprise of the Portland crowd.

Heyman took the lead and after doing his usual introduction, helped by the crowd, said that Goldberg is not there anymore but Brock came here looking for a fight. Heyman then challenged anyone in the back to come out and face the former WWE and UFC Heavyweight champion, a challenge which was accepted by none other than the recently-trimmed down Big Show.

The two faced off in the ring and then Lesnar ran the ropes to tackle Lesnar, but Show grabbed him by the neck. Brock freed himself from the chokehold and picked up Big Show for an F5 like he was a 100lbs guy. Lesnar delivered a huge F5, then removed his shirt and threw it in Big Show’s face who was laying in the ring.

You can see the video of all this shot from ringside below.

Goldberg to face Owens at Fastlane for the Universal title

The main event for the Raw-only pay-per-view Fastlane was set last night on Monday Night Raw, and the outcome of the match could alter another match at WrestleMania.

WWE Universal champion Kevin Owens will be defending the title against Goldberg, who interrupted the segment between Owens and Jericho during the show. Goldberg wrote himself on the list and then, all pissed off, Jericho accepted Goldberg’s challenge for the Universal title on behalf of his friend.

During the same segment, Goldberg also accepted Brock Lesnar’s challenge for one final match at WrestleMania. If Goldberg manages to defeat Kevin Owens at Fastlane, he will go to WrestleMania as the Universal champion, making Lesnar the number one contender for the title.

Monday Night Raw TV report for 02/06/2017

Howdy partners! @TheMagnumDA here. Man, I still have Texas on my mind. 🙂 Thank you for checking out the Raw Report this week. Before I get started, I wanted to thank Stephen Hutchings (@hutchingss81) for his support, as well as his Question of the Week on Twitter. Stephen asked me to clarify what I meant when I said “Seth is dead in the water.”

I certainly wasn’t referring to the terrible injury that befell Rollins…I simply meant that Rollins’ “face to face” with Stephanie ended with HHH getting more fan support than Seth. I thought this was a bad sign for Seth, which led me to think he was “dead in the water” going into his feud with HHH at WrestleMania. However, after last Monday…who knows if that match will even take place!

We start tonight with the SAMOA JOE contract signing. Steph McMahon and Mick Foley are in the ring together. Steph starts to gush over Joe, but Foley cuts her to the quick and states that he wasn’t happy with what happened last week. He says he’s not happy about introducing Samoa Joe, which brings him out immediately. DAMN, he wasted no time looking dapper. Three piece suit! I haven’t looked that nice since my buddy’s wedding last summer. Steph put over Joe’s attack on Seth Rollins (which hurt Seth legit, as he reinjured his knee during the attack. Yes, THAT knee). Foley pushes for this thing to be finished, and Steph was not happy with Mick’s lack of enthusiasm for Joe. Foley says that he’s been a fan of Joe’s for years, but he didn’t like the company he was keeping.

Joe steps in and says for 18 years, he’s been waiting for this moment. To stand in a WWE ring. Joe says that HHH provided this opportunity, not Mick. This means that everyone is fair game, including Seth Rollins. Joe then puts the entire locker room on notice, saying that the Destroyer has arrived and there’s nothing that anyone can do about it. Joe signed the contract! This brings out ROMAN REIGNS, who gets another tepid reaction. Reigns tells Joe to threaten him to his face. Oooh, boogie boogie. Then, in a subtle touch, Reigns namedrops “The Yard”, saying that this is his yard. So Joe has a choice…either shut your mouth, or Roman will cave it in for you. Again…boogie boogie. Foley says that as long as he’s GM, he can still make matches. So tonight we’re going to get Samoa Joe’s in-ring debut vs. Roman Reigns!

Match #1
Bayley vs. Nia Jax

This is one of the first times that I can remember Bayley getting a massive pop on Monday night. I mean, she’s received really good cheers from the crowd, but this felt like a new level of support. They announced Charlotte vs. Bayley next week. Bayley could take the title before Roadblock! The match starts like your typical David & Goliath showdown (but with ladies!) Jax does the classic Irish Whip/Charge move, but Bayley dodges her and Nia smacks the post. Bayley follows this up with another whip into the post outside. Nia is being counted out as Charlotte arrives on the apron. Bayley throws Charlotte over the ropes and smacks her with a dropkick. Nia comes back in and catches Bayley with the Samoan Drop. 1, 2, 3! Wow. Not bad, but the interference thing is a bit formula, at this point.

Winner: Nia Jax (**1/4)

Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho for the US Championship is announced for later tonight. Why not save this for the PPV?

Recap of last week’s Universal Championship match. It was pretty good, all things considered…but again, more interference!

Match #2
Braun Strowman vs. C.C. Bonin, Rob Pelly, Dustin Wallace and Brent Riley

I thought C.C. Bonin was C.C. Everton! Braun destroys these guys as Corey tells Byron to shut up. I am more entertained by Corey. One of the guys leaves and the crowd has a hearty laugh over it. Braun is just hitting guys…it’s really not even wrestling. I mean, I know Austin got through his career on slugfests, but in 2017 I’m not too impressed by these squashes. Braun stacks the geeks up like jenga pieces and pins them. He then warns Foley that he’s coming to find him, because he demands competition. Wasn’t he talking about this a few months ago?

Winner: Braun Strowman (No Stars)

After the match, Braun Strowman finds Foley and tells him that he wants competition. Foley tells him that he gets Roman Reigns at Fast Lane.

Video package to build Akira Tozawa. He’s pretty incredible.

Match #3
Akira Tozawa vs. Drew Gulak

Cole calls Akira “The Stamina Monster” as they shake hands. You know, a monster of any kind should never demonstrate this much chivalry. That’s from the Jack Gallagher “Book of Gentleman Rules”. Don’t believe me? “Article XLIII, Chapter VI, Section 8.2: A monster of any kind should never demonstrate chivalry.” IT’S IN THE BOOK! They lock up and trade armbars. Gulak gets him in a headlock, and Akira fights out. Gulak with a shoulderblock and a unique counter to roll up for two. It’s like he took out Tozawa’s leg! Awesome. They trade STRONG STYLE shots and Akira kicks him in the mouth. A big stomp gets two. I like Akira guy…he looks crazy.

Gulak knocks him out of the ring, and then brings him back in for a cover. Well then, WHY KNOCK HIM OUT OF THE RING?! Akira fights out of another headlock, and hits a Frankensteiner. A huge forearm knocks Gulak out of the ring, and a suicide dive headbutt nails Gulak on the outside! Back inside, Akira hits the Shining Wizard for ONE, TWO, NO! Kicks to Gulak by Tozawa, and a sidestep leads to a PERFECT German Suplex for ONE, TWO, THREE! Akira wins in his debut!

Winner: Akira Tozawa (**1/2)

After the match, Brian Kendrick shows up and shakes hands with Akira. Don’t do it, Tozawa.

Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho come out together! Look at these guys…such buddies! Owens reminds everyone that last week, he told them that he proved them wrong. Wow, I’ve never heard someone recap their own promo before. He goes on to say that he survived Braun Strowman, and he remained Universal Champion. Jericho butts in and tells everyone that he’s going to successfully defend his US Championship against Sami Zayn. Jericho then goes off on a weird tangent, as he puts TOM BRADY on the list because people called him “The G.O.A.T.” (Greatest of all-time). Well, that was a pretty historic comeback, Chris. Y2J then calls Brady a “stupid idiot” to delight of the fans.

Jericho then starts to talk about WrestleMania, and how the main event should be Jericho vs. Owens, title-for-title. The crowd chants “YES!” as Owens tries to hide his disdain. Owens tells Jericho straight up, “I’m not sure if I could fight my best friend.”

Aw…and then GOLDBERG’S music hits. Goldberg comes out to a pretty good reaction, and tells both men that they have two choices. They can either step aside and live, or grow a pair and take him on. Is he auditioning for a movie or something? Goldberg then goes off on a separate tangent as Owens and Jericho step aside…and live, I guess. Goldberg accepts Lesnar’s challenge to WrestleMania XXXIII, and Jericho gives him the most insincere applause. Jericho is GOLD. Owens tells Goldberg that their match sounds good on the undercard, while Owens vs. Jericho would be the main event. Owens asks Goldberg if he knows why he’s the longest reigning Universal champion, and Goldberg says it’s because he never faced him. Ooh!

A challenge is made for Fast Lane (Goldberg vs. Owens for the Universal championship), and Jericho interrupts again! He says that Goldberg can’t just come down here and make challenges. He asks Bill if he knows what happens when you try something like that (while they’re spitting FIRE, mind you). Goldberg grabs the list, writes his name down, and declares himself on the list! Jericho is upset! Haha! “That’s not the way this works”, Jericho exclaims. Jericho then tells Goldberg that he will face Kevin Owens for the Universal championship at Fast Lane, accepting the challenge on KO’s behalf. Owens is livid!

After this LONG interview, we get KO and Y2J backstage. Owens asked Jericho why he accepted the challenge on his behalf, and Jericho said that he’ll always have KO’s back. Owens tells him that accepting a match with Goldberg (who he declared a “maniac”) is not having his back, and then he walked off. Cue “Lately” by Stevie Wonder.

Match #4
WWE Tag Team Championship (Raw)
Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson (c) vs. Cesaro and Sheamus

How many times have we seen these guys fight each other on Raw? Feels like they’ve been feuding forever. Enzo and Cass come out for scouting. Sheamus with a slam on Anderson to start, followed by double knees for two. Tag into Cesaro, who hits an axe-handle off the top. Armbar is countered by Anderson, and Cesaro is taken into the corner.Gallows tags in and they trade uppercuts. Cesaro counters a whip into the ropes, and Sheamus tags in. He hits some forearms and uppercuts, but Gallows pulls him into the opposite corner, tagging Anderson. Sheamus pulls HIM into the opposite corner, and a double team move gets two. Cesaro continues with European uppercuts, and a running Uppercut in the corner. Gallows with a distraction, and Anderson attacks Cesaro in the corner. He takes him outside, where Gallows is waiting with a boot.

After the break, we see Sheamus knocked down on the outside as Cesaro fights off Anderson and Gallows. Anderson gets a spine buster for ONE, TWO, no…the crowd tries to get Cesaro back into the match, and Cesaro dodges an attack by Anderson in the corner. Sheamus tags in and he’s A HOUSE OF FIERY RED HAIR! Sheamus hits that awkward spinning heel kick in the corner. Shoulder block from the top gets ONE, TWO, NO! Sheamus misses the senton drop, but Anderson misses his attack and rolls out to the apron. FOREARMS FROM THE APRON, COUNT ALONG EVERYBODY. Great double team by Sheamus and Cesaro, but the pin is broken up. Gallows gets hit with an uppercut to the outside. Gallows decks Enzo, but Cass returns serve with a boot! This is a DQ, of course.

Winners: Gallows and Anderson by DQ (**)

Video package for Black History Month. This is followed by a Seth Rollins update, where they think his status for WrestleMania is in “serious doubt.” That doesn’t sound good at all. Rollins on Twitter: “The only way to wear the crown is to slay the king. I know what must be done and there’s nothing that can stop me.”

New Day come out to talk about the Shining Stars Resort. Kofi asks, “Whooo…has actually seen this place?” They all yell together, “NOBODY!” to the cheers of the crowd. Kofi says it’s not real, and Woods tells us that the people want magic. That’s why there were unicorns and music and cereal and…ice cream?

Match #5
The New Day vs. the Shining Stars

Nothing really happening in this match. “Ice Cream” chant breaks out as Woods hits a missile dropkick on Primo Colon. Hot tag to Big E who is ANOTHER house of fire! Splash onto Epico, followed by an Irish Whip for Primo into Xavier’s waiting feet! The finish showed Epico trying to hit his finish on Big E, but Xavier makes a blind tag and nails Epico with the Midnight Hour for the ONE, TWO, THREE!

Winners: New Day (*)

Match #6
WWE United States Championship
Chris Jericho (c) vs. Sami Zayn

Zayn with some Steamboat armdrags early on, followed by an armbar and a mahistral for ONE, TWO, no. Whoa, that was quick. Jericho goes outside and KO continues to encourage him. CHASE on the outside and Jericho catches him AGAIN with a kick. Didn’t you learn last week, Sami?! Jericho chops him in the corner and drives the knee in the mouth. Jericho taunts and Sami catches him in the corner with an elbow. Zayn springs up one rope to his a cross body. That’s such a dangerous move. Sami hits a dropkick on Jericho, and Y2J goes to the outside. Zayn hits a suicide dive as Kevin half-heartedly cheers on Y2J. “Come on, Chriss!”

After the break, Y2J taunts and Zayn fights back. Zayn misses a dropkick and Jericho hits the moonsault. Fans seem to love both of these guys. Jericho tells the crowd to “Shut up!” but gets caught in an Exploder Suplex in the corner. Heluva Kick is caught into the Walls of Jericho! Roll-up by Zayn, ONE, TWO, NO! Blue Thunder Bomb, and ONE, TWO, NO! Wow. Great sequence. Fans cheer for Zayn as he goes to the top rope. Jericho goes after him, and they have a great sequence leading to an AWESOME COUNTER by Jericho. Walls of Jericho on Zayn! Jericho pulls him in the middle, but Zayn fights to the ropes! KO with a superkick to Zayn’s face leads to the Codebreaker! ONE, TWO, THREE! Another really good match.

Winner: Chris Jericho (***)

Austin Aries is out with Neville for an interview. Aries announces a five-way elimination match for tomorrow night on 205 Live, and then asks Neville if any of the competitors scare him. Neville says that he is scared of no one, and says that the winner of that match will bend to a knee at Fast Lane. Cedric Alexander comes out, and eventually all of the other challengers make their way out. They brawl, and it leads to a tag match.

Match #7
Cedric Alexander, Jack Gallagher and T.J. Perkins vs. Neville, Noam Dar and Tony Nese

Caught in progress with Nese vs. Jack. Nese has Gallagher in a front face lock as Jack tries to tag his partners. Nese knocks Cedric off the apron, but catches a headbutt from Jack. Nese tags in Dar, and this upsets Neville. Jack gets the hot tag to Perkins, who hits a sitting drop kick while attachking his partners. Dar with a SICK dropkick, but his attempt to tag Neville is refused. Neville then walks out. Fascinating stuff. Perkins rolls up Dar, but Nese breaks it up. Nese and Dar are yelling at Neville, but this leads to a Detonation Kick by TJ. Cedric tags in, and immediately hits his backbreaker finish for the ONE, TWO, THREE!

Alberto Del Rio and Paige planning a May wedding

Former WWE champion Alberto Del Rio revealed on The MMA Hour today that he and WWE Superstar Paige are planning to get married sometime in May if his schedule allows it.

Host Ariel Helwani joked about Paige’s schedule and Del Rio said that she’s currently injured and recently underwent neck surgery. Del Rio said that her target return date is between April and June. Asked about their relationship and if they have any WWE discussions at home, Del Rio said no, they don’t discuss wrestling although she does sometimes ask for advice. He said that he doesn’t care that Paige works there, and that she’s young and still has a lot to give to the business. Del Rio described Paige as someone who will be the best female wrestler in the business.

Despite an ugly departure from WWE, Del Rio said that he’ll always be grateful to WWE and for the opportunity they gave him but towards the end of his run, things weren’t the same and decided it was better to leave.

The former champ joked that he’s trying to get Paige into MMA and signing her to his Combates America promotion in Mexico and promised to give her a good contract. He then laughed and said someone in Stamford is probably upset he said that.

Dana Warrior signs WWE deal

Dana Warrior, the widow of the Ultimate Warrior, signed a multi-year deal with WWE as brand ambassador effective January 27.

The news was revealed by Dana herself in a post on Facebook, adding a photo of herself signing the contract. “I could not be more excited about becoming an official part of the WWE family…although I always felt I was one. I have an opportunity now to work at WWE as a Brand Ambassador,” Dana said.

Dana recounted that her relationship with WWE was built slowly and meaningfully as the good ones do. “I could not have anticipated all the ways WWE would partner with me and then go beyond in sewing Ultimate Warrior into their universe’s fabric. I could not have predicted how through this company I would find and develop myself, cultivate and unearth my skills. My roots were already at WWE; they’ve given me a place to struggle through growing pains but ultimately bloom,” she wrote.

WWE was very supportive of her when her husband passed away the day after he appeared on Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania 30. At no expense to her, the company sent two staff members to live with her and take care of her two kids, helping in everyday stuff until she got all things in order.

“The opportunity to be an ambassador for a company I feel passionately about is a dream come true. The chance to serve partners WWE has forged bonds with stitches up places in my heart left after tragedy,” she explained. “I did not know nearly three years ago it was possible to feel so alive again. Thanks to all you Warriors, the WWE Universe, and my family at WWE I am filled with gratitude and hope and ready to begin a bright new path.”

Rock ‘n’ Roll Express join the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2017

There is a new tag team joining the WWE Hall of Fame this year as WWE announced The Rock ’n’ Roll Express as the newest inductees of class of 2017.

Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson – the duo who make up the legendary tag team – had a fantastic career that spanned over several years in different promotions, including NWA, WCW, ECW, SMW, USWA, AWA, WWF and others.

Their WWE stint in 1998 was short, but they managed to appear at that year’s WrestleMania and also at the Unforgiven pay-per-view, facing the New Midnight Express.

Throughout their careers, Morton and Gibson had different legendary feuds, including against the Midnight Express, the Four Horsemen, the Heavenly Bodies, and others.

The Rock ’n’ Roll Express join Kurt Angle, the only other inductee announced so far, for the 2017 Hall of Fame ceremony.

New England Patriots get a replica WWE title for Super Bowl victory

The New England Patriots won the Super Bowl last night and apart from getting the world-famous Lombardi Trophy, they will get another title – the WWE World title courtesy of Triple H.

“A never-say-quit team, a football dynasty, and an amazing #SB51.
Congrats @Patriots, this title is coming to New England,” Triple H posted on Twitter, along with a photo of the WWE title and the custom Patriots side plates.

WWE now sends replica title belts to teams winning their respective leagues including those in the NBA, NHL, and MLB. Sending the title usually gives WWE some added free advertising as players show it off during victory parades and even during television interviews.

Ivan Koloff suffering from liver cancer

The Post and Courier newspaper is reporting that former WWWF champion Ivan Koloff is battling liver cancer.

The man formerly known as The Russian Bear has been diagnosed with the liver disease more than 10 years ago but recent tests have shown that it’s getting worse. Koloff was still doing appearances at conventions but now he’s at a point where he cannot show up anymore as he cannot even sign autographs.

His wife Renae told Mike Mooneyham of The Post and Courier that he has difficulty walking due to weakness in both knees and is experiencing diminished liver function, along with jaundice and shortness of breath. “Doctors say this will only get worse as time goes on,” she said. “There’s really nothing they can do about it except to keep a watch on him.”

Koloff will visit a specialist next month in Chapel Hill, N.C., who will suggest options, although his wife revealed that at this stage, quality of life takes precedence over chemotherapy treatment. “He’s going to do the watch and wait every three to four months until they get ready to turn him over to doctors here,” she said. “And we’ll just take it from there.”

Koloff, now 74, was the one who beat Bruno Sammartino in 1971 at Madison Square Garden, ending Sammartino’s seven-and-a-half-year reign as WWWF Heavyweight champion.

Dwayne Johnson in two Super Bowl commercials tonight

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be in two Super Bowl commercials tonight for the two movies he has coming out this year.

Universal Pictures and Paramount Pictures spent the big money to have trailers for The Fate of the Furious and Baywatch screened during Super Bowl LI, which airs tonight starting at 8:30PM on Fox. Super Bowl commercials are the most expensive on television, and a 30-second spot during the game tonight costs a cool $5 million. The show is being held at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The Fate of the Furious will be released on April 17 while Baywatch is out on May 17. His third movie of 2017, Jumanji, is set for a Christmas release.

Bret Hart says he is now 100% cancer free

In an interview with SportsNet, WWE Hall of Famer Bret “Hit Man” Hart has revealed that he is now 100% cancer free.

Hart revealed in the beginning of February of last year that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and around two weeks after ha made the news public, he underwent surgery.

“You know, it’s so critical for me to stress…that it’s just a blood test,” Bret said, urging men to go get screened for prostate cancer. He credits early detection as the thing that saved his life. Unfortunately, his brother Smith is also suffering from prostate cancer but wasn’t so lucky and has maybe a year left to live.

In December of last year, Hart told Sports Illustrated that his health was good and the last check-up revealed that his PSA levels were zero. Doctors told him he had a one-in-ten recovery.

“I would say I’m pretty close to normal,” Hart concluded.

Linda McMahon one step closer to head the Small Business Administration

Linda McMahon is one step away from being the head of the Small Business Administration after The Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee voted earlier this week to approve her nomination.

McMahon passed the vote 18-1, with the only “no” vote coming from Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey. Booker was the one who said that Triple H, in attendance for the hearing, was “letting himself slip” and offered to take him to the Senate gym afterward for some “triple help” in getting back in shape.

“It goes without saying that a nearly unanimous committee vote to approve her nomination shows that members from both sides of the aisle have great confidence that she is the right leader for the SBA,” Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), chairman of the Small Business Committee, said in a release.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), the committee’s top Democrat, said she was “pleased to hear that Mrs. McMahon will serve as a passionate advocate for small businesses and that she believes the SBA should continue as a cabinet-level, standalone agency.”

The nomination now heads to the full Senate for a final vote.

Matt and Jeff Hardy to host tailgate party on WrestleMania Sunday

Matt and Jeff Hardy are going to WrestleMania…but they won’t be inside a WWE ring. Instead, the popular TNA duo will be hosting a Broken Tailgate Party outside the Saddle Up All-American Bar, around 2 miles away from the Camping World Stadium.

The event kicks off on Sunday, April 2 at 11AM and will go on up until 6PM, an hour before WrestleMania starts on pay-per-view. The cost of each ticket will be $30 and that includes a BBQ meal with a non-alcoholic drink and admission to two shows held by American Combat Wrestling and Full Impact Pro Wrestling on the same day. A full bar will be available at an additional cost.

You will also have an opportunity to have a photo taken with the Hardy clan and get stuff autographed for another fee. For $40 each, you can get a photo and autograph from Matt and Jeff, while $20 each gets you a photo op with Rebecca Hardy, Señor Benjamin, and Maxel. A $99 package gets you a photo with everyone.

Tickets will be on sale soon at TicketFly.com.

Tammy “Sunny” Sytch released from jail after 4 months

Tammy “Sunny” Sytch has been released from jail after spending over four months at the Carbon County Correction Facility for violating her parole.

The WWE Hall of Famer was arrested on September 23 of last year following several parole violations, including for being intoxicated when she was supposed to be drug and alcohol free. The judge did warn her at the previous hearing that there would be zero tolerance and the minute she violates any of her conditions, she would be sent straight to jail.

It will be interesting to see how long Sytch will stay out of trouble this time as any previous attempts to get her life back on track proved to be futile.

Hulk Hogan opening store in Orlando in time for WrestleMania

GrowthSpotter.com, a central Florida business website, is reporting that Hulk Hogan is teaming up with developer Wallack Holdings to reopen a closed storefront on International Drive as a shop and museum celebrating his career, with plans to debut before WrestleMania 33 rolls into Orlando.

The store will be located at 7679 International Drive, northeast of the intersection with Sand Lake Road. It would sit on the former 7-Eleven store which has been closed since June 2014. The red and yellow painting job has already started on the building and when GrowthSpotter reached out to Hogan’s Beach Shop in Clearwater, the staff said that the new store in Orlando will open soon.

It’s not known if this will be a permanent location for Hogan’s second store or if it’s just a temporary base to try and lure the 70,000+ wrestling fans who will come to Orlando for WrestleMania week.

Watch the 30 for 30: This Was The XFL documentary

30 for 30: This Was The XFL is now archived on the WatchESPN app for viewers to watch on-demand.

The 1 hour 20 minute documentary takes a look at the partnership between WWE and NBC on the short-lived XFL venture, which had its first kick off on February 3, 2001.

It was produced by Charlie Ebersol, the son of Dick Ebersol, who was the NBC Sport chief at the time and a big friend of Vince McMahon. Vince launched the league, and NBC bought 50% of it six weeks later, giving McMahon and the XFL a television network to broadcast games.

Unfortunately, bad football and other issues spelled the demise of the XFL after one season and both WWE and NBC walked away with losing millions of dollars.

All the key people who were part of the league, including Ebersol, McMahon and other executives, reporters, and those who worked in making the XFL a reality were interviewed extensively for the documentary.

The show did a total of 917,000 viewers on Thursday night.
