For John Cena, his last time is today!

From the prototype to the last real champion, the record-breaking never-seen 17 will hang up his boots – and jorts – tonight after a historic 26-year career in the crazy world of professional wrestling.

Absence makes the heart grow stronger, they say. It sure was for Cena, who was often booed, ridiculed for his five moves of doom, and on the receiving end of never-ending “Cena sucks” chants. But once he left his full-time gig as a WWE Superstar, the man from West Newbury, Massachusetts always got a thunderous ovation whenever he returned home to the ring.

And even when he finally went heel earlier this year, something that fans have clamored forever, people did not want to boo him. It was a trigger pulled too late and perhaps apart from the initial shock moment, the whole Cena goes heel experiment fell flat, so much so that Cena turned face not long after.

In 2025, Cena had a total of 36 appearances for his retirement tour, a number set by WWE. He had dedicated the whole year for WWE, but he wasn’t needed for the full 12 months. It was his most since 2018. He has wrestled at least one match for each of the 26 years he has been with the company, a record which was saved by one lone match in 2024.

But in 2025, he has wrestled 17 matches so far and has one more to go against The Ring General live tonight on Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Cena reached 100 premium live event wins this year, a record only matched – and surpassed – by The Undertaker at 107. His tally at PLEs stands at an impressive 177 matches. He holds the record for most matches on Monday Night Raw with a total of 545.

The champ has shared the ring with Dominik Mysterio, Rey Mysterio, Sheamus, Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, AJ Styles, Brock Lesnar, Sami Zayn, Logan Paul, Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre, CM Punk, R-Truth, Jey Uso, Randy Orton, Damian Priest, Seth Rollins, Roxanne Perez, Raquel Rodriguez, and Liv Morgan this year, not a bad group of people for a retirement tour.

Now, just hours away from his final match, a big angry Austrian stands in his way. Gunther has already retired Goldberg and would like nothing more to retire one of the biggest stars in the history of professional wrestling.

Cena signs off with a championship history that is unmatched: 14 time WWE champion, 3 time WWE World Heavyweight champion, 1 time WWE Intercontinental champion, 5 time WWE United States champion, 2 time WWE Tag Team champion, and 2 time WWE World Tag Team champion, plus Money In The Bank winner, and twice Royal Rumble winner.

We might not have “seen” him for several years, but tonight, the whole world will be watching.

Capital One Arena issues strict no bag policy for tonight’s SNME

Saturday Night's Main Event

The Capital One Arena in Washington sent out an e-mail to all ticket holders for tonight’s show that no bags will be allowed inside the arena tonight, even if it contains WWE merchandise.

“There are various merch stands around the arena. If you purchase merchandise outside the arena and it is in a bag, it cannot enter the arena as it violates our bag policy,” the e-mail states. “We recommend using BinBox or storing purchased items in your vehicle if possible.”

Bags, backpacks and purses will not be permitted inside and only wallet-size clutches no larger than 5″ x 7″, medical bags and parenting bags no larger than 14″x 14″x 6″ will be permitted.

The e-mail comes amid rumors that there might be some very special high-level guests from the U.S. government attending the show. The name of President Donald Trump has also been discussed as attending although that remains to be seen if he will make it to the building.

Saturday Night’s Main Event: John Cena’s Final Match live tonight, full card and how to watch

Saturday Night's Main Event

WWE presents its final Saturday Night’s Main Event of 2025 tonight, live from a jam-packed and sold out Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. Perhaps tonight’s show is the most important SNME event of all time and will feature the retirement match of the 17-time world champion John Cena.

Originally pitched to be a two-hour tribute show for Cena, the former champion rejected the idea and wanted to showcase the future of the industry as part of the undercard. The idea of WWE vs NXT exhibition matches was then planned, receiving the blessing of Cena.

Headlining the broadcast will be John Cena vs Gunther, who won The Last Time Is Now tournament to earned the spot to be Cena’s final dance partner. Also on the show, Bayley takes on Sol Ruca, WWE champion Cody Rhodes battles NXT champion Oba Femi, and AJ Styles and Dragon Lee take on Je’Von Evans and TNA X Division champion Leon Slater, with the WWE World Tag Team titles seemingly no longer on the line.

A Countdown to Saturday Night’s Main Event will start at 6PM ET and it will air on all of WWE’s social media properties. The actual event starts at 8PM ET and airs on Peacock in the United States and on YouTube internationally. The show will not be on NBC. A post-show will also be held immediately following the conclusion, airing on WWE’s social media channels.

A capacity crowd of over 19,000 will be on hand to witness the event tonight, marking the largest gate ever for an arena show in WWE history. The cheapest available ticket on Ticketmaster is going for $1,230 at the moment.

AAA Guerra de Titanes show to air on WWE’s YouTube channels

WWE AAA

The upcoming AAA Guerra de Titanes show will be airing on the WWE YouTube channel as the company continues to give its maximum exposure to the lucha libre promotion it acquired this year.

The event, taking place on Saturday, December 20, will also air on AAA’s YouTube as well as on the WWE Espanol channel.

Several WWE stars will have a match on the show including The Lucha Bros reuniting to take on Dom Mysterio and El Grande Americano, NXT North American champion Ethan Page goes for the AAA Latin American title against Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., Psycho Circus vs The Wyatt Sicks, and Dragon Lee vs El Hijo del Vikingo.

Je’Von Evans is also part of the AAA Cruiserweight title triple threat match against Laredo Kid and Jack Cartwheel and Natalya and Lola Vice team up with Faby Apache to take on Las Toxicas in a six-woman tag match.

AAA will start airing on FOX Mexico starting on Saturday, January 17.

Broadcast team and hosts for tonight’s Saturday Night’s Main Event

Saturday Night's Main Event

The broadcast team for tonight’s Saturday Night’s Main Event: John Cena’s Final Match will consist of Michael Cole and Wade Barrett.

Cole has been calling Cena’s matches throughout his career and was also there for his first match while Barrett had a history with Cena and his Nexus faction.

Raw announcer Joe Tessitore will be hosting along with former WWE co-CEO Stephanie McMahon, who Cena credits with saving his career when she heard him rap on a bus while on a tour and asked him to do it on television, weeks before he was scheduled to get released from his contract.

WWE Hall of Famer Jesse “The Body” Ventura also returns to the broadcast tonight after missing the last SNME in November.

Collision to have a special 4:30PM ET start time today coast-to-coast

The Winter Is Coming episode of Collision will take place today in Cardiff, Wales and has a special start time coast-to-coast of 4:30PM ET / 1:30PM PT.

Scheduled for this show include Mark Briscoe defending the TNT title against Daniel Garcia, Swerve Strickland vs Josh Alexander, Julia Hart and Skye Blue vs Jamie Hayter and Kris Statlander, plus two Continental Classic matches including Claudio Castagnoli vs Konosuke Takeshita in the Blue League and Kevin Knight vs “Speedball” Mike Bailey in the Gold League.

The show airs on TNT and also streams on HBO Max.

Kevin Owens and Natalya join the cast of WWE LFG as coaches

WWE LFG

PWInsider.com is reporting that season three of the WWE LFG reality series will see a change of two of the four coaches.

The Undertaker and Michelle McCool will no longer be part of the show and have been replaced by Kevin Owens and Natalya.

Owens has been injured since April of this year and not featured on WWE television as he continues his rehab following neck surgery. Natalya’s addition comes to no surprise and a fitting one for her since she runs The Dungeon wrestling school with her husband TJ Wilson.

The Undertaker did both season one and two of LFG while McCool came onboard in the second season replacing Mickie James. Booker T and Bully Ray remain on the cast as the other two coaches.

The show is currently filming at the WWE Performance Center.

A&E has not announced a premiere date yet.

Athletes, sports teams, and TV personalities congratulate John Cena

Several athletes and TV personalities paid tribute to John Cena, with videos of them talking about the former WWE champion airing on Smackdown.

Tom Brady, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Snoop Dogg, Jelly Roll, and Jimmy Fallon all sent their congratulations.

“Congratulations on an incredible career. You’ve impacted the lives of so many people inside the ring and outside the ring,” said Brady. “Good luck in your last match. I hope you fare better in yours than I did in mine!”

“You inspired so many people. You won a ton of championships. Almost impressive enough for me to forget the fact that you’re a diehard Patriots fan,” added Eli Manning. “But hey, I guess no one’s perfect, including the 07 Patriots!”

Peyton Manning said, “I gotta warn you, when you enter the grocery store or step into your garage, there’s no entrance music at all in retirement unless you play it yourself on your AirPods. So that’s a free tip from me to you. Congrats again, pal.”

It was a familiar scene with Snoop Dogg, who was filmed smoking one.

“John Cena, it’s your boy, Big Snoop Dogg. You know what it is. Congratulations, my one. I’mma smoke one.”

WWE performer and country music star Jelly Roll added, “John Cena, the legendary, never-seen 17! Man, thank you for all these years. Thank you for the inspiration. Thank you for being the role model that we all needed. You deserve this, brother. Congratulations, happy retirement!”

Late night host Jimmy Fallon congratulated Cena on an amazing career and said that what Cena did for the sport and for WWE was just insane.

“You’re a legend. Congratulations. Thank you, thank you,” he said.

The New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Miami Hurricanes, MLB, and other sports entities also sent their congratulations to Cena via posts on X.

WWE performer and country star Jelly Roll to become member of Grand Ole Opry

Occasional WWE performer, huge fan, and country singing star Jelly Roll will become a member of the famous and prestigious Grand Ole Opry.

Jelly Roll got the news while appearing on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast and broke down in tears as one of his favorite artists and whose music helped him get through rough times in jail, Craig Morgan, recorded a video for him with the announcement.

The 41-year-old, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, got super emotional, removed his headphones, and burst out crying. He then gave a massive hug to Rogan, who was also getting emotional himself at Roll’s reaction.

Jelly Roll is a massive WWE fan and is often at ringside for the big events. He even got physical and worked his ass off to lose a lot of weight for his first pro wrestling match which took place at SummerSlam, teaming with Randy Orton against Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul.

Countdown and post-show set for tomorrow’s Saturday Night’s Main Event

Saturday Night's Main Event

WWE will be doing a countdown and post-show for tomorrow’s Saturday Night Main Event, a first for this event but also understandable considering the importance of it.

The Countdown to Saturday Night’s Main Event: John Cena’s Final Match starts at 6PM ET on WWE’s social media properties and that is followed by the Post-Show which is tentatively set to start at 10PM ET also on WWE socials.

With the event airing exclusively on Peacock in the United States and YouTube internationally, there is no set time for the show to end and Cena will obviously have all the time in the world for any post-match speech.

This is different than what Goldberg got when his speech got cut off but that event aired also on NBC which had a strict time line.

Tomorrow’s Saturday Night’s Main Event is now at well over 18,000 tickets distributed with WWE moving more than 1,300 very expensive tickets in two days.

This will be one of the largest attendance for an arena show for WWE and most likely the highest-grossing WWE arena show in history due to the expensive ticket prices.

Chelsea Green talks husband’s WWE return, dumpster match, and more in interview

Chelsea Green sat down with Chris Van Vliet at INSIGHT Live in San Diego, California to discuss winning the Women’s US Tile for a second time, being paired up with Ethan Page in NXT and why they work so well together, her husband Matt Cardona (Zack Ryder) recently making a return to WWE, her infamous dumpster match, being featured on Unreal and the pitch to have her win the Royal Rumble, and more!

On Zack Ryder’s recent return:

“Okay, so I’ve never really worked with Zack Ryder. I mean, we were ships passing in the night for years at the beginning of our relationship, and then we only really came together in TNA and kind of on the Indies for two years. Then I was re-signed again. I kept yapping, running my mouth, telling everyone he was going to return as Matt Cardona, and I had to eat my words when he came back as Zack Ryder. But it was really cool, because I’ve never had a chance to just sit in the crowd and listen to everybody react to Zack Ryder. I’ve never really been there for the Woo Woo thing, except when I did it at Saturday Night’s Main Event, or when I did it at All In, then I felt a little bit of it. But it was really surreal. I knew that moment was going to come. I think we had been hoping for that moment to come every Rumble for the past five years. And it didn’t, obviously, there was no Rumble moment. So I just didn’t expect that this was going to be the moment.”

On preparing for the Zack Ryder return:

“So the crazy thing is that with WWE, they can say something’s gonna happen, and until you are, I want to say at the show, but even at the show, things can change, because it’s live TV. So until I knew that LA Knight was walking to gorilla, I couldn’t get excited, because I have been on the receiving end of many of, ‘Oh, you’re gonna get this.’ ‘No, maybe next week.’ ‘Oh, you are gonna go out there and win.’ Oh no, you broke your arm. You know what I mean? All those little moments. So it’s crazy how you just [can’t control it]. So no, I could not get excited. But I was a little excited when he was flying with me to New York. And the morning of the show, I had Good Day New York, and he came, and then as I’m walking out, TMZ was outside, and he panicked, because it’s like, oh my god, everything’s gonna be blown, and then he’ll never get the moment if TMZ sees him.”

But it’s not unusual to see you and Matt Cardona together?

“But on the day when there’s a surprise opponent, do you know what I mean? So we didn’t get too excited, but we hoped. We really hoped this is gonna be the moment.”

On her 2014 debut segment with Stephanie McMahon:

“Okay, so it actually goes back to the day before. It was at the time when you always heard about extras getting try-out matches and actually getting a job, which I feel like you never hear about anymore, because we’ve got these crazy, elaborate try-outs. So I had just started wrestling, we were in Abbotsford, I was an extra. I’m in this tiny, little broom closet of a locker room. I heard one of the girls outside talking to our talent relations guy. And the talent relations guy was like, ‘Hey, if you have a passport, tomorrow…’ So that would have been Sunday, and then tomorrow would have been Monday night Raw. [They said] ‘Tomorrow we’re going to do a spot we need an extra for [TV]. It’s going to be quite a big spot. You’ll be speaking, but it’s in Portland, Oregon.’ She was like, ‘I don’t have a passport.’ In my head, I’m like, ding, ding, ding! I got a passport. So I waited till she came back, and then I excused myself to go to the washroom, and I found that talent relations guy, and I said, ‘I can do it. I got a passport.’ And that is how I became Megan Miller. So it was so crazy. I was dating this very sweet guy at the time, he had to drive me to Portland, Oregon, sit in the crowd while I declared that I had slept with Daniel Bryan. The funny thing is hours before they gave me this script, one thing about WWE is they tell you things without telling you things. They’ll give you a script or they’ll tell you that you’re winning a title without telling you, ‘Hey, you are winning this title tonight at this time.’ They don’t do that. It’s kind of all like wishy-washy talk. So they gave me this script, and it says, ‘Stephanie, Megan, Stephanie Megan, Stephanie, Megan.’ I’m like, okay, who’s Stephanie and who’s Megan? I don’t know why I have this script. Nobody tells me I’m Megan. Nobody tells me it’s Stephanie McMahon. Nobody’s telling me anything. I get out there and it’s like, Okay, we need you for rehearsal. I haven’t even looked at this thing because I don’t know who the f*ck Stephanie and Megan are. I go out with the script, and Stephanie McMahon is in the ring, and Vince is standing there with a microphone ready to rehearse this segment where I’m Megan. So I’m trying to read through like, Oh my god. I’m sleeping with Daniel Bryan. Oh my god, I’m getting slapped by Brie Bella. Oh my god, I’m with Stephanie McMahon. The whole thing was just [crazy]. I was delusional. I was way too new to be in there. It’s the first time I had ever spoken on a microphone, ever.”

That was your first promo?

“Ever! I had never picked up a microphone, I don’t even think in high school. I’d done presentations in university, that’s about as far as my public speaking skills went. So imagine [how I felt]. They kept saying at the end, ‘Oh, you did so good. You looked so nervous.’ Yeah, no sh*t! I’m like, how do you hold a microphone? I don’t know. The whole thing is so crazy, but so iconic. And Brie slapped the hell out of me, popped my eardrum. It was amazing, honestly, it was everything I could have ever dreamt of and more.”

On her dumpster match:

“I came up with that spot [the powerbomb ending]. Not to toot my own horn, but toot, toot. I was gonna die on that hill. I kind of talk about that often, like there are only certain hills I’m gonna die on. Winning is not a hill I’m going to die on, or getting a certain move in, that’s not really a hill I’m going to die on. But when it comes to the Money in the Bank ladder spot that going through the table, being power bombed into the dumpster, those are hills I’m going to die on, because those are the things that people are going to talk about forever. I believe that was the first female dumpster match ever in WWE, there had to be something huge at the end. Everyone’s going to talk about the match, because it is a first, but it can’t just be a powerbomb into a dumpster. That’s kind of boring. The boys would never just do that. I always have to think about, like, what are the guys gonna do? Because the guys are out here doing crazy, crazy stuff. I want to make sure that we’re doing equally as crazy stuff, so that there’s no women’s wrestling and men’s wrestling, it’s just wrestling. But do you know that the salsa that was in there was spicy? I asked for salsa and cake to be in there, and they got spicy salsa, and it was in my eyes, because I had to dump it on my head to pop out, it was so painful. I don’t know if you’ve ever had spicy salsa on your head, but don’t. I do not recommend.”

On the WWE Unreal pitch to have her win the Royal Rumble:

“God bless Ed. I wish he never said it. I wish it never aired, because now it won’t happen, that’s my thought. Is it now we have to wait at least five years for it to happen, and who knows where I’ll be in five years? When I watched it, I didn’t know that. Everything that you saw in Unreal, we’re not told these things. I thought that was such a good idea. I hope that they use it. Well, for me, yes. But if not on me, we need a Carmella to come back and do that. You know what I mean? Somebody with some spice, a Billie Kay, someone funny, who really would take that.”
