Monday Night Raw TV report for 05/19/2014

Tonight, the future of the WWE is at stake, with the shocking news that WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan will be out of action for a while following neck surgery last week. Of course, what does this mean for the title? We will find out tonight, as the “state of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship” is to be addressed.

Also, with Raw being from England, will we see hometown heroes Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett and Divas Champion Paige compete? (Hopefully!)

John Cena has managed to defeat The Wyatt Family in two matches last week, physically; but as always, Bray has the upper-hand psychologically. Who gains another advantage this evening, as the two move on to their Last Man Standing match at Payback?

The Shield and Evolution’s war just keeps escalation every week. They are also set to square off again at Payback, so who may face who leading up to the Pay-Per-View?

Plus, I’m sure we’ll see more of Adam Rose, and I’m really wishing he actually wrestles!

All this and much more, so read on!

Monday Night Raw TV Report for May 19th, 2014 – “London Believes”

Introduction Segment: Arena Promo

The Wyatt Family are in the ring immediately and Bray begins to serenade the English folks with “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands.” He then cuts into his usual promo; “every night, we lay our heads down to dream. And that’s when our minds really start to ‘tick.’” He talks about how we escape from our horrible realities in the world via our dreams at night, wanting to be a hero. However, Wyatt prophesizes that we really can’t correct our wrongdoings. Bray recalls an experience he had with a former teacher of his. Bray questioned the teacher on her “responsibilities” to the children and why she was “better” than him; but that the teacher responded and called him “evil.”

Bray calls himself a “conquerer” and “revolutionary,” while the teacher is “rotting in some retirement home.” Bray claims he has the whole world in HIS hands, and is “the necessary evil to balance everything out.” Bray declares he offers everyone “hope,” compared to John Cena who “wants to see everything die.” The crowd erupts in a “Cena sucks” chant, while Bray promises he will be the Last Man Standing at Payback, and that Luke Harper will “put John Cena down tonight.”

Cena’s music blares and Harper and Rowan go to the aisle. Bray laughs, but turns around into an Attitude Adjustment, since John had snuck in the ring from behind. John slides between Erik and Luke and escapes to the back, while the boys look on and Bray collects himself.

Michael Cole, Jerry “The King” Lawler, and John “Bradshaw” Layfield welcome us to London, England for Raw.They recap WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan’s unfortunate situation, as well as Stephanie McMahon’s reaction from last week.

They chase each other around the ring, then slide back in where Sheamus catches Cesaro in the “Ten Beats.” Cesaro wiggles out of a fireman’s carry and gets advice from his manager.

Sheamus runs after, and punches him in the gut. Cesaro counters and jawbreaks Sheamus with the ropes, then gives him a couple of uppercuts. Sheamus notices this, allowing Cesaro to run up behind and bring him backward with a German suplex for the victory!

Segment #9: Arena Promo

Rene Young is in the ring and welcomes her guest, Adam Rose. It’s party time! He takes over her microphone, with his usual schtick. At least the crowd is trying to get this gig over. Rene inquires about his ongoing rivalry with Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter. Adam just wants them to have a little fun, then his entire group begins to hop up and down. (Yes, pun intended considering there is a bunny in the ring.)

Swagger and Colter answer him, ripping Rose for not conforming to American standards, and embarrassing Zeb two weeks in a row. Colter challenges Adam to “settle it right here, right now, tonight!” As Rose thinks about it, Swagger hits him from behind, then gets in the faces of his party posse. Adam leaps back with punches and knocks Jack off the apron. Rose gets back to partying.

Match #9: Single – John Cena (with Tag-Team Champions, The Usos [Jimmy and Jey]) VS. Luke Harper (with Wyatt Family members Bray Wyatt and Erik Rowan)

(Note: Much like The Undertaker’s old-school entrances, the fans hold up their cell phones and light up the darkened arena during The Wyatt’s entrance.)

Harper takes it to Cena right away with punches and kicks. Luke whips him hard into the corner, but Cena reverses another one and brings him down with a bulldog. Cena misses a corner splash, so Luke slams him down.

Cena comes back with a spin-out backdrop and signals for the 5-Knuckle Shuffle. Harper hops up and German suplexes him back for two! Cena capitalizes with the 5-Knuckle Shuffle. He goes for the A.A. but Harper counters with a Wheelbarrow slam. Impressively, Harper turns Cena around with a Hurricanrana and dropkick, then a suicide dive to the outside! Harper runs in the ring, but Cena counters with an elbow and DDT. 1 – 2 – Luke kicks out!

Cena flips Harper over with a (bad) hurricanrana of his own, but immediately gets kicked in the head for another close-call! Harper brings Cena out of the corner backwards, in a Torture Rack position, and drops him with a neckbreaker! 1 – 2 – Cena still kicks out! John nails a sudden clothesline, then clamps on the S.T.F. but Harper clutches the ropes for a break.

Rowan tries to get involved, but an Uso cuts him off. Another one flies from the apron onto both Bray and Rowan, but Bray comes in and gives both Usos the Sister Abigail. Cena sends Wyatt over the ropes, but turns around into the Falcon Arrow suplex from Harper. 1 – 2 – Cena gets the shoulder up! Rowan comes in and body-splashes Cena, causing the dq.

Winner via Disqualification: John Cena

Post-match, Bray drives Cena down with the Sister Abigail Flatliner, as Harper and Rowan drag Cena to the outside, continuing the assault. Luke runs Cena into Rowan, who flips him over with a fall-away slam on the ramp. Bray laughs and plants Cena with another Sister Abigail Flatliner on the stage.

Bray sings “He’s Got The Whole World In Hands” as Luke counts to 10, predicting the Last Man Standing Match result to close the show.

End Of Raw.

Reporter’s Rumblings – By Moe Tapp

Back to average, sadly. Usually the International Raws are pretty top-notch, but I felt that this one was just “going through the motions.” It kicked off and ended well, but most of the middle felt somewhat flat. Onto the critiques for more:

Excellence: As always, The Wyatt Family can still do no wrong and come up with new ways to captivate with their promos. Tonight’s was another unique story. Great match with Harper and Cena; and I would say that Luke actually carried the veteran through the contest, especially with his unique move-set.

Liked them using another method to determine a #1 Contender to Bad News Barrett’s I.C. Title. This is much better than just planting a wrestler in the slot, with no back story of why they deserve the championship opportunity. The matches themselves were pretty good too. Wish Barrett did wrestle, but he did cut a great promo.

The combat between The Shield and Evolution can also do no wrong. I love how they have The Shield either match or one-up Evolution’s predictable power-plays, thereby evening the odds and keeping us wondering who will come out on top.

Bogus: The rest! Seriously, in particular, a lot of this show. Starting with Cesaro/Heyman – at first was quite intrigued by the paring, but it just seems they are doing the same gig every week now and Cesaro hasn’t really moved up the ladder since winning the Battle Royal at Wrestlemania XXX. He’s also already been U.S. Champ, so I really don’t see the point of him re-feuding for the title.

While Stephanie was good at her heel-persona and making fun of Bryan, I was expecting more on the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, like a conclusion. It does a provide a little suspense for next week when Bryan’s on the show, but I think they’re just delaying the inevitable with Daniel having to be stripped of the title due to his injury.

Paige – I loved this girl and she was so awesome on NXT, but I think she has fallen flat in the last few weeks. It made no sense for her to lose in her home-country to the same opponent she defeated last week. Right now, Paige should be running rough-shod over the division until A.J. Lee returns and provides a formidable challenge. I really hope they build Paige back up, because she really can be a fresh face of the Divas and last a long while.

Adam Rose – read Paige, except for the wrestling part, since he hasn’t yet! While the crowds have liked him, and I did/do on NXT, he just hasn’t done anything on Raw and unfortunately, is starting to show a limited verbal set on the microphone. I like his facial expressions and charisma, but he definitely needs to both wrestle on Raw (which he does well on NXT) and talk much better. Instead of the feud with Swagger/Colter, Rose should’ve just been wrestling lower-card guys and winning for a few weeks; this would display his skills in the ring, and his entrance/exit are popular enough to get him over fan-wise, so a rivalry so quick seems unnecessary.

Lastly, there’s only three matches announced for Payback, so let’s hope more are made known next week to build interest for the Pay-Per-View, which is only 13 days away!

Until next week, as always, Be Excellent Wrestling-Online Readers and Wrestling Fans!

WWE stocks go even lower following conference call with investors

Today’s conference call with investors didn’t do anything to alleviate any fears regarding the company and Wall Street responded by driving the stock even lower than Friday, ending the day at 10.96, another 2.75% drop.

While both McMahon and Barrios explained in more detail what happened last week, no good news was given and the conference call sounded more like uncertainty and a guess game rather than a clear outlook of what’s coming. Unless WWE starts ramping up those Network subscribers along with making some decent money, it looks like there will be some dark clouds over WWE headquarters for the foreseeable future.

Total Divas renewed for season 3, Rosa Mendes joins the cast

E! and WWE along with Bunim-Murray Productions today announced that Total Divas has been renewed for season 3 and will start airing new episodes on Sunday, September 7.

The cast will consist of Nikki and Brie Bella, Natalya, Naomi, Cameron, Eva Marie, Summer Rae, and a new addition – Rosa Mendes. Mendes has been with WWE since 2006 and this is the first time she will be appearing on the show.

The full press release can be found below:

Los Angeles, CA, May 19, 2014 – E!, WWE and Bunim-Murray Productions continue their intimate look inside the glamorous, hectic and often dramatic lives of the WWE Divas when “Total Divas” returns for season three Sunday, September 7th at 9pm ET/PT.

Cameras will once again shadow  WWE Divas The Bella Twins™(Nikki and Brie Bella), Natalya™ (Nattie), Naomi™ (Trinity), Cameron™ (Ariane) and rookies Eva Marie™, and Summer Rae™ giving viewers insight into how these women, who are on the road for 52 weeks a year, balance their personal lives while fighting for the spotlight. In addition, WWE Diva Rosa Mendes™ joins the cast, as the fiery Latina who has been around WWE for years has finally found herself in the limelight. Season two of “Total Divas” is currently airing all-new episodes every Sunday at 9pm ET/PT.

One of E!’s most popular series, “Total Divas” currently averages 798,000 viewers in the 18-49 demo with a total of 1.3 million viewers on average. Additionally, the series ranks as a cable top 5 destination in its timeslot, Sundays 9-10pm, in the viewers 18-34 and women 18-34 demos. Total Divas is E!’s second-strongest original series of 2014-to-date following “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”

In season two, the drama has been taken to new levels as the Divas’ popularity has grown. Nikki Bella’s relationship with boyfriend WWE Superstar John Cena® has been under a media microscope and their contradicting thoughts on marriage and starting a family have placed the couple in a deadlock. Meanwhile, Brie Bella has been eagerly planning her upcoming wedding to WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan which will culminate in the “Total Divas” season finale airing Sunday, June 1st at 9pm.

For Trinity, this season has been a roller coaster, as she married the love of her life, WWE Superstar Jimmy Uso™, struggled with the idea of motherhood, and dropped her very first single “Dance All Night.” In the remainder of the season, viewers will see Trinity face a career threatening injury when she takes a blow from a fellow Diva during a televised match.

Similar to Trinity, fun loving Nattie has faced several challenges in season two as she continues to find common ground in her first year of marriage to her husband TJ (WWE Superstar Tyson Kidd™) especially when it comes to money, in-laws and their lackluster romantic lives. Nattie has also struggled with newbie Summer Rae who has become a key player in WWE storylines, taking screen time away from the veteran Diva.

Nattie wasn’t the only Diva who Summer had conflicts with as she went toe-to-toe with Brie, Nikki, and, as viewers will come to see later this season, possible tag-team partner Eva Marie. Away from work, Summer has been trying to get into the dating scene after a recent breakup left her yearning for companionship.

Sassy and saucy Ariane is also getting back to her music and dance roots as she gears up to release her first single.  However, she is more focused on raising her celebrity status which doesn’t sit very well with her boyfriend.

Eva Marie opened up a closet full of secrets this season each more shocking than the one before. Season two opened with the red headed Diva revealing she secretly eloped with her longtime boyfriend Jonathan and some provocative modeling photos from her past surfaced which spread quickly through the WWE locker room. Coming up, Eva continues to surprise and shows a side to her that none of the other Divas have seen before.

Former model and WWE Diva Rosa Mendes joins the cast for season three. A veteran of the Divas Division since 2006, Rosa has spent the past year with her eyes on the cast of Total Divas. Now that she’s one of them, there is no telling what may happen next.

On top of all the drama outside of the ring, Rosa and the rest of the Divas compete for a top spot, and the highly coveted Diva’s title, at WrestleMania® 30.

“Total Divas” is produced by WWE and Bunim-Murray Productions. Jon Murray, Gil Goldshein, Jeff Jenkins and Russell Jay are Executive Producers for Bunim-Murray Productions. Kevin Dunn and Will Staeger are Executive Producers for WWE.

RAW and Smackdown to tape from London today and tomorrow

WWE will be taping both RAW and Smackdown at London’s O2 Arena tonight and tomorrow as the WrestleMania Revenge Tour of Europe enters its second and final week.

Tonight’s RAW will be airing on tape delay and contrary to previous reports, Vince McMahon is in the house to run the ship. McMahon was rumored to be staying back in the U.S. to face investors but he participated in today’s conference call via telephone.

The only thing confirmed so far for the show is an appearance of some sort from Daniel Bryan as the state of the WWE World Heavyweight title will be addressed. Bryan just had neck surgery and his involvement will most likely come via a taped message.

Hulk Hogan is also joining the crew for these two days but he is not advertised for tonight’s RAW. He will be at Smackdown tapings tomorrow however. This will be Hogan’s first TV appearance for WWE since the RAW after WrestleMania.

Foley to make announcement about his future tomorrow

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley wrote on Facebook that he will have a very important announcement regarding his future tomorrow afternoon.

“After giving the matter much thought, I have come to an important decision regarding my future. I know that not everyone will agree with, or support the decision, but I do hope the decision will be respected,” Foley wrote.

The former champion has previously criticized WWE over his royalty checks and has refused to sign a new WWE Legends deal which would enable WWE to market his character(s) in video games, merchandise, and other media. Foley’s decision to not sign the deal was done after he received a check from his WWE 2K14 video game which was far less than what they were originally promised.

The announcement could be a lot of things, including cutting his ties with WWE or joining Jeff Jarrett on his new venture. Foley recently appeared in a video for Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling.

Whatever the announcement might end up to be it looks like it won’t be a popular one for fans.

Over $100 million spent on WWE Network so far

The WWE Network was another major topic during today’s conference call with investors, hosted by Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon and Chief Strategy & Financial Officer George Barrios.

Barrios revealed that they spent over $100 million so far on the Network, $75 million went in the creation of it and another $40 million went on staff hiring and related expenses. While the initial number of subscribers were a disappointment for investors, Barrios said that to reach a stable level it will take up to three years where they hope to have almost 4 million subscribers.

To make up for lost pay-per-view revenue, assuming the Network will cannibalize all PPV revenue, it will take around 1.3 million subscribers and not a million as they stated before. Last Friday’s press release said it was up to 1.4 million subscribers “at a steady state” to offset lost PPV business.

With more subscribers to the Network comes additional costs to run the service, processing of cards, and other costs and Barrios said that when they reach 1.5 million subscribers the cost of running the Network will be almost $50 million.

Barrios did not want to give the subscriber count as it stands today and said they will keep their word that an updated number will be given at every quarter earnings call. When asked where do they see the Network a year and a half down the road, Barrios added that while they have a good idea where they want to be, they can’t give anyone certainty and said every day they learn new things.

Vince McMahon says NBC Universal deal was a disappointment

WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon admitted that they were disappointed with the amount of money they got from the NBC Universal deal although he was happy with the International deals that the company managed to get done so far.

The company recently wrapped up deals in the United Kingdom, Thailand, and finalizing a deal in India, all of which were deals that WWE got more money from. The average annual value of these key television agreements along with the NBC Universal deal is approximately $200 million, representing an increase of more than $90 million from previous deals.

One important thing mentioned was that the three shows negotiated – RAW, Smackdown, and Total Divas – have different end dates and were not negotiated as one package as WWE has hoped for. WWE timed all their shows to expire at the same time to get them all as one however Chief Financial Officer George Barrios said that all the shows are on a less than five year deal and they’re still finalizing certain aspects of the contract.

When an investor asked if the launch of the WWE Network hurt negotiations, Vince McMahon said it probably did have a negative effect after all. Timing was everything though and if they didn’t launch it in February they would have needed to wait another year since the idea was always to lunch prior to WrestleMania.

Total Divas episode preview for tonight: “What Happens In Cabo”

Episode nine of Total Divas airs tonight on E! and it is titled “What Happens In Cabo.” After this episode only two more remain for season two.

Tonight’s show will mainly be about the girls traveling to Mexico for Brie’s bachlorette party so you can expect a lot of bikinis, alcohol, and stupid things happening. Nikki will also be revealing a ‘secret’ while Eva Marie will face a hard time being sober among all that alcohol.

Last week the show did its worst rating for the whole series, with only 750,000 viewers tuning in.

CM Punk and AJ Lee getting married next month

Former WWE champ CM Punk appeared at a Chicago Cubs baseball game at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, yesterday, and sang “Take me out to the ballgame” during the seventh inning.

Punk was interviewed in Comcast’s SportsNet booth during the game and announced that he is getting married next month to WWE Diva AJ Lee. AJ was there with him and cameras showed her for a brief time. AJ was given time off from her WWE duties right after WrestleMania and was not advertised for the European tour and with a wedding next month it looks like she will be out for a while too.

This was Punk’s fourth time singing the famous song. You can see the video below.

Daniel Bryan to make an appearance on RAW from London

WWE World Heavyweight champion Daniel Bryan will be “appearing” on Monday Night RAW from London this coming week although he obviously won’t be there live in person.

Bryan will most likely be appearing “via satellite” as the state of the World Heavyweight title will be addressed. Bryan underwent neck surgery on Thursday and will be out for a couple of months, unable to defend the title he won at WrestleMania XXX just over a month ago.

The announcement of Bryan’s inclusion on RAW was announced on Smackdown where Michael Cole said that they “hope” to hear from the current champion. RAW will be airing on tape delay on Monday due to the time difference.

Arsenal fans encouraged to do the Yes! chant today in Wembley

At today’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium in London, England, Arsenal fans are being encouraged to point their fingers to the sky and chant “yes yes yes” with instructions handed out in leaflets outside the stadium.

According to the Metro newspaper who posted the screen shot of the leaflet, the instructions have a photo of Wembley with the Arsenal logo and then the text, “Pass this on to all Arsenal football fans! Former Attorney General of Louisiana launches WWE investigation

Former Attorney General of Louisiana, Charles C. Foti, Jr., Esq., a partner at the law firm of Kahn Swick & Foti, LLC, announced that KSF has commenced an investigation into WWE following the announcement of their new TV deal with NBC Universal.

KSF’s investigation is focusing on whether WWE and/or its officers and directors violated state or federal securities laws since management was very optimistic about what they would get from this deal in the past. This new WWE TV deal has opened WWE to a lot of scrutiny, bad publicity that WWE can certainly do without but now impossible to avoid.

If you have information that would assist KSF in its investigation, or would like to discuss your legal rights, you may, without obligation or cost to you call toll free at 1-877-515-1850.

Investment company calls for replacement of WWE’s executive management

Lemelson Capital has announced that they bought a stake in WWE at the new low price and is calling the Board of Directors to replace the executive management team of the company following losses and misstatements.

“WWE has affirmed that even with one million subscribers for its WWE network, the company stands to lose between $45 million and $52 million in FY 2014, which validates the original short thesis,” said Emmanuel Lemelson, Chief Investment Officer of Lemelson Capital Management.

“This follows what we believe to be material misrepresentations by the company about both the performance and operating profit model of its WWE network, which the company has wrongly labeled ‘a homerun’,” said Lemelson.

Lemelson Capital is also pushing to explore the option of the sale of the business and said that changes are a necessary component of any successful strategy going forward.

“For example, promoting the WWE direct network’s value to shareholders without a fair and accurate discussion of the implications to a traditional network revenue circumvented management’s fiduciary responsibility as stewards of investor’s capital, and is part of what has emerged as a pattern over recent years. Further, there are no pending operational developments in the pipeline to offset these significant losses,” Lemelson added.

Vince McMahon no longer a billionaire

Vince McMahon is no longer a billionaire. It’s not that he’s broke or anything, but yesterday’s big sell-off of WWE stocks left a $350 million dent in McMahon’s pockets, putting his net worth now at an estimated $750 million according to Forbes.

A total of 41 million WWE shares traded hands yesterday, significantly more than the average of 1.7 million shares traded each day.

Jayme Wiggins from Interpid Capital Management, a company which once was WWE’s largest outside investor and sold its 10% stake this past January, said the writing was on the wall.

“The question is why their numbers are so low given this renewal,” Wiggins said. “With the information that they put out there, it seems to imply that their core business isn’t making money.”

Either way you slice it, it was a very rough week for everyone involved in WWE. The same thing happened when WWE stocks were on the rise a decade ago and then by the following day of the first XFL game, McMahon and WWE took a big hit, knocking McMahon off the Forbes Billionaire list at the time.

McMahon and Barrios to face investors on Monday in conference call

WWE will be doing some damage control on Monday, May 19, as Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon along with Chief Strategy and Financial Officer George Barrios will face the wrath of investors during a conference call beginning at 11:00AM EST.

The conference call will be held to discuss the business outlook following their “WWE Business Outlook Maintains Potential for Significant Earnings Growth” press release which started the landslide of the stock yesterday.

Who was in charge of WWE’s new TV deal negotiations?

The man who advised WWE and spearheaded the negotiations of the new television deal was Chris Bevilacqua, the co-founder of Bevilacqua Helfant Ventures, a company based in New York City which focuses on media and commercial rights advisory services and investment opportunities in sports and entertainment.

While Bevilacqua track record is pretty impressive and the man has negotiated some great deals for different networks and sports teams, the latest WWE deal will probably never make it on his resume.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Bevilacqua and WWE had talks with Turner Broadcasting, FX Networks, and AMC Networks, to see if they’re willing to pay the price tag that WWE was looking for but none of them splashed the cash.

This left NBC Universal in a great position where the tables were turned and it was them who were somewhat in control of the negotiations after no other network decided to pony up the money for the WWE television shows.

Instead of WWE now demanding the money they wanted, it was NBC Universal who pretty much offered what now they wanted and WWE simply had to accept or end up homeless come October.

Brad Safalow of PAA Research, who last year was told by Vince McMahon during a conference call that he’d let him put him in a hammerlock if they don’t double up on their deal, said that in general, WWE investors remained highly skeptical of its management as both WWE Network and TV rights fees fell short of expectations.

“Investors are left with a feeling that the company consistently overpromises and underdelivers,” he wrote.

WWE signs Price Devitt from New Japan Pro Wrestling

PWInsider.com is reporting that WWE has signed 32 year old Fergal Devitt who wrestles under the name of Prince Devitt.

The Irish-born wrestler is best known for working at New Japan Pro Wrestling, starting with the company back in 2006. He held the IWGP Junior Heavyweight title three times and the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Tam titles six times.

Devitt uses some impressive face and body paint sometimes, something that he hopefully will be allowed to do once he makes his WWE TV debut.

He will be reporting to NXT for a few months once his working visa is sorted out before being called up to the main roster.

Investors bodyslam WWE in early trading

Investors punished WWE big time today as stocks fell almost 50% as soon as the trading day started on Wall Street, losing over $9 from their price. At time of this writing, trading was at $10.73.

Analysts have also voiced concerns that the company’s return to profitability may happen later than expected and disappointing results of the WWE Network so far has led to a massive sell from investors.

Benchmark has downgraded the stock to hold from buy and said they estimate that NBC Universal negotiated a 50% increase on WWE’s domestic TV rights fees. “The company’s valuation could take a heavy beating this morning, as the new domestic TV deal with NBCU likely disappointed investors over limited visibility / believability on the ultimate success of the Network,” Benchmark said in a note.

WWE stocks down almost 24% following WWE press release

WWE stocks took a massive beating on Wall Street in after hours trading yesterday after the company announced its press release that it has reached a new deal with NBC Universal to keep all WWE shows on USA Network, SyFy, and E!

After closing the regular trading day at $19.93, WWE fell to almost 24%, ending at $15.20, one of their single-day biggest drops this year so far. WWE dropped 25% when it released its first count of subscribers for the WWE Network in April.

The main reason for the drop was a press release WWE issued saying that new TV deals in the United States, United Kingdom, Thailand, and the upcoming deal in India will only increase the average annual value to approximately $200 million, just $90 million north of what previous deals brought in.

Besides that, the company is now saying that it will need up to $1.4 million subscribers on the WWE Network to make up for lost pay-per-view revenue whereas before the company was saying that they would only need 1 million subscribers to break even.

The last WWE Network subscriber count stood at just over 667,000 when the number was released on April 7.

WWE and NBC Universal announce new TV deal

WWE and NBC Universal signed a new multi-year deal that will keep Monday Night RAW on USA Network, Smackdown on SyFy and Total Divas on E! for the next few years. The announcement was made yesterday by Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE Executive Vice President Talent, Live Events & Creative, from the stage at the NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment upfront presentation at the Javitz Center in New York.

“USA Network President Chris McCumber, Syfy President Dave Howe and I are incredibly pleased to renew this strategic partnership with WWE,” said NBCUniversal Cable Chairman Bonnie Hammer. “In today’s TV landscape, live event programming is an extraordinarily valuable asset, and WWE remains the only entertainment franchise that consistently delivers this on a 52-week a year basis. We look forward to bringing WWE’s action-packed and unique brand of drama to the wide audiences across our cable networks for many years to come.”

WWE Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Vince McMahon said that they are proud to continue their long-standing partnership with NBCUniversal. “We are excited about our future as we further the reach and popularity of our live, family-friendly entertainment programming 52 weeks a year.”

In this new deal, WWE will continue to work with Bunim-Murray Productions to produce Total Divas for E! which will go into its third season later this year.

The announcement ends months of speculation as to where WWE TV would land after the current deal was about to expire later this year. Unlike previous years, WWE made it a point that all TV licenses expire at the same time so they can negotiate a better package for all their shows at the same time.

Talks between WWE and NBC Universal came to a halt in February when their exclusive window expired and WWE started talking to other networks. NBC Universal still had the right to match any offer and keep WWE on their network if someone else made a competing bid.
