Tonight, Raw is from the home of “The Viper” Randy Orton. So, does he receive a face reaction, or will the villain still be loathed by the fans? Also, what could he have in store for Daniel Bryan as they move towards Hell In The Cell in thirteen days? Is Shawn Michaels going to be involved, or will the new guest-referee hold off his appearances until the Pay-Per-View?

“Mr. Money In The Bank” Damien Sandow really picked up steam on Friday’s Smackdown, matching up with World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio well. Could this be a sign that “The Intellectual Saviour” is getting ready to cash in, or is he just playing a few head games with the champ before his big title defence against John Cena, also at HIAC.

The Big Show knocked-out C.O.O. Triple H last week, which should probably mean major repercussions for his actions. What will “The Game” and/or Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley have for the 7-footer? Will he continue to stand up for himself too?

Finally, the hot C.M. Punk/Paul Heyman/Ryback feud is sure to move along. Who is going to get the next upperhand?

Monday Night Raw T.V. Report for October 14th, 2013 – “Authority Challenged”

Introduction Segment: Arena Promo

Michael Cole welcomes us to Raw, and Justin Roberts does the same for WWE Hall-Of-Famer and guest-referee Shawn Michaels. “The Heartbreak Kid” dances his unique way out to take the microphone. The announcer’s put over Michaels’ Hell In The Cell repertoire, saying the choice for him is “best for business.”

Shawn thanks everyone who voted for him and addresses his status on who he aligns with, Randy Orton and crew, or his protege Daniel Bryan. He states his respect for both wrestlers and the Hell In The Cell, recalling that it was just over 16 years ago he was in HIAC for the first time in this very town. Shawn guarantees that a new WWE Champion will be crowned on October 27th.

That declaration brings out Randy Orton, and “The Viper” does get a decent fan-favorite response. Orton says that Shawn thinks he has everyone convinced, and accuses him of “resenting” Randy, because “no matter how great you once were, I will always be that much better than you. And Shawn, that fact, eats you up inside.”

Michaels informs Orton that he doesn’t have to be concerned with him; instead he should be focussed on Daniel Bryan. “The Viper” threatens that he will hurt Daniel real bad while Shawn watches on and has to make the count to make him WWE Champion. Randy warns “H.B.K.” that he better not screw him over.

Shawn wonders if Orton is trying to “intimidate” him, and if he is, it’s not going to work anyway. “If you do, I’m going to kick that pretty head off those pretty shoulders. And if you’re not down with that, I got two words for ya…!” Orton tries an attack on Shawn, but he is thwarted off to the outside. The Miz runs down and assaults Randy too, pummelling away against the barricade while referees break up the brawl.

Match #1: Single – “The Viper” Randy Orton VS. The Miz

Randy is in control as we come back from break, ramming Miz’s head into the top turnbuckle. He clotheslines Miz in the corner twice, then slugs away. Miz comes back with punches of his own and clotheslines Randy to the floor, then attempts a front dropkick. Orton moves and clotheslines Miz to the mat. He chucks Miz into both sets of steel steps and gets a two-count after a cover back in the ring.

Orton methodically stomps all over Miz, then clamps on the grounding rear chinlock. Miz battles out but is tossed over the ropes again with an Irish Whip. Randy uses the barricade to try a DDT, but Miz pushes back into the ring post.

Orton rolls into the ring an Miz follows, running back with a forearm and knee, then a kick-to-the-head. Miz charges at him with a clothesline in the corner, then flies off the top with a double axe handle. Miz measures Orton and tries the Skull-Krushing Finale, but Randy rolls through.

Miz catches Orton by the legs and swings around for the Figure-4, but the lights go out and The Wyatt Family’s video appears. They also suddenly appear sitting and standing on the stage, which distracted Miz long enough to turn around into an R.K.O. Randy covers and picks up the victory!

Post-match, Bray Wyatt cuts a promo from his rocking chair. He tells Miz that he is the “epitome of everything I loathe about this world.” He cites the “limelight, the diamonds, the red carpet.” Wyatt questions how much it will take for Miz to quill his thirst for popularity.

“And I just want you to not be afraid my child. I do not which to see you suffer. I’m just going to put you down,” Bray laughs maniacally. “Follow the buzzards.”

Match #2: Single – Fandango (with Summer Rae) VS. Santino Marella

Elbow/collar tie-up begin, with Fandango shoving Marella around. Santino freaks Fandango out with The Cobra taunt, but Fandango gets angered and pounds away. He puts Santino down with an uppercut and shoulder block for two. Fandango clubs Marella’s back neck and brings him to the canvas with a snap suplex.

Fandango ascends the turnbuckle and leaps over Marella, then Santino his a sit-down jawbreaker/stunner. Marella fired up with punches, a hip toss, and headbutt. He pulls out The Cobra, but Summer distracts him, and Fandango rolls him up from behind for the 1 – 2 – 3!

Later tonight, the WWE Tag-Team Championship will be on the line as The Rhodes Brothers will challenge The Shield!

Segment #1: Office Promo

Paul Heyman is with Raw General Manager Brad Maddox and presents him footage of Battleground where C.M. Punk kicked Ryback below the belt to pick up the win. Maddox says that Ryback is already booked to face Punk again at Hell In The Cell, but Heyman wants more.

He wants Punk to take on BOTH Ryback and Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel. Brad hesitates, saying that it was not fair for Punk. However, his willing to give him a chance. He books both Ryback vs. R-Truth, and C.M Punk vs. Curtis Axel in Beat The Clock challenges. Whoever wins with the better time gets to pick the stipulation for Hell In The Cell.

The commentator’s discuss the petition going around the locker room to give Big Show his job back, signed by various wrestlers.

Segment #2: Video Promo

A sentimental package on John Cena and his desire/passion for this business is aired. As always, well put-together!

Match #3: Tag-Team – Los Matadores (Diego and Fernando) (with partner El Torito) VS. 3.M.B. (Heath Slater and Drew McIntyre) (with 3MB partner Jinder Mahal)

Los Matadores completely dominate for the early part, again (how many times to we have to see these guys face off?). Drew is tagged in, and they double-suplex a Matadore. McIntyre boots him to the mat, then stretches his face and left arm. Matadore comes back with a jawbreaker and tilt-a-whirl DDT! He tags in the other Matadore, who is all over Slater.

He front dropkicks McIntyre off the apron, then flips over Heath and sweeps him down. Matadore soars off the middle rope with a body splash, then both drop him with a neckbreaker/backdrop combo to take this one!

Post-match, Los Matadores and El Torito also dismantle Jinder Mahal.

A recap of Big Show’s actions from last week is shown, and The Authority, which is Triple H and Stephanie McMahon as they are now known, will respond next.

Segment #3: Arena Promo

Stephanie and Triple H walk out. Stephanie says that she has “learned a very valuable lesson. I learned never again to let my kindness be mistaken for weakness.” She states that they have helped out The Big Show numerous times, and are not pleased with his returns.

Stephanie warns the roster that they are pressing charges against Show and selling his house. She then puts over her husband, Triple H, calling him by all his monikers and declaring that “Triple H is the WWE.” She hands over the mike.

“I’ve been the C.O.O. of the WWE for two years now. I put aside my personal and professional needs to support the WWE to ensure that it would be here for the future for each and every one of you.”

He rolls through all the backstage politics he has had to deal with. However, “The Game” goes off in anger, and claims he has reached his “breaking point.” That was being knocked out last week by Big Show, and listening to the fans chanting “yes, yes, yes.”

“I’ll be the bad guy, and I’ll give you something like you have never seen before. The Big Show will grovel at my feet, to avoid incarceration or financial ruin. Anybody in that locker room that defies our authority will beg to keep their job. And anyone, anyone that even thought the word ‘yes’ had better start to pray, as of right now!”

This brings out the man who started all those “yes” chants, Daniel Bryan. He comes to the stage and engages the crowd in many “yes” chants, until World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio attacks him. He pushes him down the ramp, and delivers the kick-to-the-head near the ring.

Triple H and Stephanie look on. Stephanie taunts an out-of-it Bryan, then introduces him to his opponent for the night, who just kicked his head in. Triple H mocks the “yes” taunt/chant.

Up next, Ryback will set the clock for C.M. Punk against R-Truth.

Match #4: Single – R-Truth VS. Ryback (with Paul Heyman)
Stipulation: Beat The Clock Challenge. The time is set after this bout.

The time starts and Truth delays by walking around the ring, as the clock counts up. He gets in the ring at just under 30 seconds, slugs away, then does the same thing a couple more times. Ryback eventually catches him with a clothesline-from-behind, at the time of 1:30 and counting.

He rams his shoulder into Truth’s gut, then scoop slams him down. He runs off the ropes and drops with splash. Ryback is in control but the clock keeps going up, this time at 3:13.

Truth tries a comeback, but Ryback eventually catches him with The Shellshock marching Samoan drop and 1 – 2 – 3, at 5:44.

Segment #4: Backstage Promo

Stephanie walks into The Bella Twins backstage. She congratulates Brie on her engagement to Daniel Bryan, then books her alone in a match with Tamina Snuka. This is punishment for Bryan’s taunt over Triple H last week.

After a promo for the new WWE 2K14 video game, Tons Of Funk make their entrance.

Match #5: Tag-Team – Tons Of Funk (“Sweet T.” Tensai and “The Funkasaurus” Brodus Clay) (with The Funkadactyls, Naomi and Cameron) VS. The Real Americans (Jack Swagger and Antonio Cesaro) (with Zeb Colter)

Cesaro and Clay begin, with Brodus scoop slamming Antonio down big time. He tags in “Sweet T,” who hammers away on Cesaro in the corner. Tensai brings him out with a monkey flip (impressive!) but is quickly taken down by Swagger after a tag. He works over the left leg of Tensai, then switches again with Cesaro who clamps on a chinlock.

Tensai fights out but is double-teamed in the corner. Jack repeatedly rams his shoulder into Tensai’s gut, then hops off the second rope with the Swaggerbomb splash. Cesaro follows up with the leaping double-stomp and gets a near fall!

Swagger is back in and locks in a step-over-toehold, but Tensai literately kicks him off. They clothesline each other down, but Jack is up first and tags in Cesaro. He gutwrench suplexes Tensai for another near fall, then slaps hands with Swagger. Tensai begins to fight off both Real Americans, then manages the hot tag.

Brodus is in and cleans house. He t-bone suplexes and splashes Cesaro. Swagger breaks up the pin attempt, but is tossed out. Clay turns around into a jumping uppercut, and Antonio finishes him off with The Neutralizer!

Post-match, Cesaro holds Brodus’ legs and wants to swing him around. Tensai stops it but is beat up by Jack, then Cesaro selects him for the big swing. He rotates him around three times, much to the pleasure of the fans!

Match #6: Single – Tamina Snuka (with Divas Champion A.J. Lee) VS. Brie Bella

Brie is all over Tamina with punches, forearms, and kicks. She dives off the ring apron with a Lou Thesz press to the floor, however Tamina soon comes back with a clothesline-to-the-back-of-the-head. She kicks Brie hard in the ring, but is caught in a roll-through half-crab submission! Tamina gets to the ropes and forces Bella to the mat. She whips her with her leather vest and chokes her with the second ring rope.

Snuka covers after a float-over suplex, then gives Brie a short-arm clothesline. Bella is still hanging on, kicking out of both pin attempts. Brie counters a run with an elbow, then puts Tamina down with a second-rope dropkick. She goes back up and tries the facebuster, but is pushed off and planted with a big boot-to-the-face for the 1 – 2 – 3!

Post-match, Tamina continues to attack with a Samoan drop and shoulder breaker. She climbs the turnbuckle and soars with the Superfly Splash. A.J. looks on, admiring Tamina’s work. She clamps on the Black Widow Octopus Stretch and caresses a downed Bella. Nikki come to her sister’s aide as A.J. and Tamina back away.

Segment #5: Office Promo

Stephanie and Brad are watching the new Goldberg DVD (cheap plug, I know) when Daniel Bryan barges in. He is ticked that his girlfriend Brie was attacked and seemingly set up. McMahon wards him off quickly, insinuating he needs to tend to her. Bryan runs off.

Match #7: Single – C.M. Punk VS. Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel (with Paul Heyman) (Non-Title)
Stipulation: Beat The Clock Challenge, before 5:44.

Lock up to begin and Punk comes back quickly with shoulder block and cover. Another lock up and both struggle into the corner. Punk sweeps up Axel into a jackknife cover, but Axel quickly kicks out. Punk chops away at Curtis, as does the I.C. Champ on Punk, then comes out of the corner with a grounding snapmare.

He scoop slams Punk a couple times, then drops an elbow. 1 – 2 – Punk kicks out! C.M. counters in the corner with an elbow, then flies out of it with a springboard crossbody for two!

Axel goes back to the ground work and rubs his forearm into Punk’s face. He delivers a backbreaker, but misses a second-rope elbow. “The Straight Edge Superstar” comes back with knees, then the running high-knee. He dives off the top rope with the elbow drop but still only gets two!

He attempts the Go To Sleep, but Axel wiggles out and takes Punk down with a swinging neckbreaker. 1 – 2 – C.M. kicks out again! He comes back with fists and chops, but is taken down with clothesline to the back-of-the-head for another two, as well as a fisherman’s suplex for a close call! Punk spins Curtis around and nails the high-kick, then the Go To Sleep for the W, with only 11 seconds left!

Post-match, C.M. Punk says “the party’s just started here in St. Louis.” He tells a livid Paul Heyman that he should be “proud of me, because I learned from you. You’re the mad scientist of professional wrestling and I actually liked your idea.” He uses the 2-on-1 match, only with a twist – it will be C.M. Punk VS. Ryback and PAUL HEYMAN in the “HELL IN THE CELL!”

Heyman can’t believe what he’s heard, as the crowd erupts into loud “C.M. Punk” calls, who is riling up the fans and celebrating.

Up next, Daniel Bryan will face World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio!

Match #8: Single – Daniel Bryan VS. World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio (Non-Title)

Bryan begins quick with a punch then kicks in the corner. Del Rio comes back with one of his own and a shoulder block for an early one-count. Bryan battles his way out of the corner with shoulder rams and kicks, then hits Alberto in the gut with his knee. Bryan snaps Del Rio’s arm over his shoulder, but is countered with double-boots.

The World Heavyweight Champion controls with a snap suplex and grounding rear chinlock. Daniel counters with a backdrop, but misses the kick-to-the-head, which allowed Del Rio to hit the backstabber. 1 – 2 – Bryan kicks out! Alberto punches Daniel in the corner, but after Mike Chioda, the referee, got him to back off, Bryan fires back with kicks of his own. He measures and runs at Alberto with a front dropkick, but the World Heavyweight Champ moves and regains domination.

Bryan is perched on the top rope as we come back and soars with a headbutt, but Del Rio moves out of the way! Bryan manages to clamp on the Yes Lock Crossface, but Del Rio squiggles to the ropes. He reverses a run and catches Daniel in a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker.

He double-stomps the back of Daniel, then tears at his chin. Alberto taunts Bryan with his own “yes” chant, but Bryan charges out of the corner with a clothesline! He tries again for the Crossface, but Del Rio counters into an armbreaker with his knees, then pounds away.

Del Rio ascends the middle rope and flies off with a front-dropkick for a near fall! Daniel once again fights back, but ends up running his shoulder into the post. He manages to duck the springboard enziguri try from Del Rio, and is on his feet first.

He kicks away at a knelt Alberto, and clotheslines him down. He is gearing up and getting the fans amped up too! He nails Del Rio with a running front dropkick in the corner, then brings him off the turnbuckle with a hurricanrana! 1 – 2 – Alberto kicks out!

Del Rio comes back with a kick, but Bryan pulls the ropes down and Alberto goes over the top. Daniel follows him with a suicide dive, then flies off the top rope with the headbutt! 1 – 2 – kickout by Del Rio!

All of a sudden, Randy Orton appears on the Titantron and is checking on Brie Bella, Bryan’s fiancee. He shuts the door and Brie screams. This distraction allows Del Rio to roll up Bryan for a near fall. He nails another kick and punches away. Bryan shoves him off and hits the high kick, but instead of covering, Daniel runs to the back. Referee Chioda counts-out Bryan.

Winner via Count-Out: World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan

Post-match, Daniel hurries through the backstage area to the trainer’s room. He finds The Bellas alone with the trainer, until Orton ambushes from behind. He puts Daniel down until referees and trainers get him to back off.

The Shield are in The Authority’s office. They are discussing Daniel being out of the picture, then Stephanie and Triple H make their Tag-Team Championship match a “No Disqualification Rules” bout.

Match #9: Tag-Team for the Tag-Team Championship – The Rhodes Brothers (Goldust and Cody Rhodes) (Challengers) VS. The Shield (Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns) (Champions) (with United States Champion and Shield partner Dean Ambrose)
Stipulation: No Disqualification Rules

(Note: It is announced that C.M. Punk will be on Smackdown this Friday!) Following proper introduction (nice touch!), it is Cody and Seth to begin. Cody hits him with a quick low kick, then a hard whip into the corner. He lets Goldust come in, who hits Rollins with a second-rope forearm. Goldust works over Rollins with a kick in the corner, then a jumping knee drop on the mat.

He tags is brother again, then drops down, which allows Rhodes to hit a dropkick for two! Cody nails Seth in the face with a smacking knee, and Goldust is back in, hitting a jumping butt-bump. Rhodes in again, and The Rhodes Brothers are isolating and working over Rollins.

Cody runs off the ropes but gets his ankle snagged by Dean, allowing Rollins to capitalize with a low dropkick, then finally switch with Reigns. He punishes Cody, pushing him to the outside and clubbing him on the chest against the apron.

Roman goes for the cover but only gets two. Rollins is back in and mount-punches Rhodes. The two fight in the corner, then Seth brings Cody out with a backdrop suplex. He locks on an armbar and face-stretch submission, but is rolled through and tossed up into an Alabama Slam position. Rollins gets out of it with a sunset-flip, but Rhodes hops over him and makes the hot-tag to Goldust.

“The Bizarre One” comes in fresher, clotheslining and backdropping Rollins. He sets him up for Shattered Dreams, but first knocks Roman off the apron. Seth is out of the position, but is still bulldogged down for a two-count! Rollins comes back by ducking a crossbody/forearm attempt from Goldust, who just flat rolls to the outside.

Returning, Reigns is working over Goldust with headbutts, punches, and kicks in the corner. Seth is in again, who is shortly beaten up by Cody, but goes back to work with the armbar and face-stretch submission on Goldust. He is soon reversed into a backslide pin for a near fall, but Rollins remains dominate with a jumping clothesline. Reigns is tagged in, and Goldust tires to do the same, but Roman jumps over Rollins to block Goldust.

Reigns wears down Goldust more with a grounding headlock. He whips him into the corner, but Goldust puts a stop to it with a reverse elbow. Goldust crawls for the tag, but Seth blocks it by knocking Cody off the apron. He mimics Goldust’s taunt, but is caught in a powerslam position by Goldust. “The Bizarre One” eventually tags in his brother, who comes in on fire again!

Cody slugs away on Reigns, then hits a jumping kick. He nails an uppercut and throws him into the ring post, shoulder-first. Cody rolls him up for a two-count, then flies backwards off the top with a moonsault! 1 – 2 – Reigns still kicks out! Cody dismantles an interfering Dean Ambrose, then springboards off the ropes with a dropkick. He covers for the count, but Seth disrupts the pin! Goldust comes in and takes Seth to the floor.

Inside, Cody tries CrossRhodes, but Dean comes in to begin a 3 – 2 assault. They start to set up Cody until Goldust brings in a steel chair and swings away. Reigns gets the better quickly again, then picks up the chair and stalks Goldust. He takes the shot, but Goldust ducks and bounces back with a crossbody, sending the chair into the chest/head of Reigns!

Rollins and Rhodes are brawling on the outside. Seth catches Cody with a powerbomb into the barricade, but in the ring, Goldust is managing on his own against the Tag-Team Champs!

He takes both to the outside, until Ambrose comes back again. (Clear “this is awesome” chants start from the fans.) Reigns suddenly spears Goldust through the corner part of the barricade, and Ambrose rolls Cody back in the ring. He drags Roman in there too, but The Big Show runs through the crowd!

He walks over the barricade and the 7-Footer takes out both Ambrose and Rollins. Cody goes for the springboard Disaster Kick, but Roman ducks; however he lands into a knockout punch by The Big Show! Rhodes crawls over and places himself on top of Roman as Goldust makes his way back into the ring. 1 – 2 – 3, and The Rhodes Brothers earn the hard-fought victory!

Winners via Pin Fall and NEW Tag-Team Champions: The Rhodes Brothers (Goldust and Cody Rhodes)

Post-match, Triple H is furious as he stands over a down Reigns. Big Show celebrates with “yes” chants in the stands of the Scotts Trade Center with the fans, and Cody Rhodes and Goldust hold their newly-won championships high to close the show!

Reporter’s Rumblings – By Moe Tapp

Overall, this was another pretty great Raw. It flowed decently smooth, and again, had both a hot opener and closer. Onto the analysis.

Excellence: Opening promo/match. I admit, I was surprised to see Shawn Michaels make an appearance, as I thought they’d hold off until Hell In The Cell. I did like the interaction between him and Orton, and “H.B.K.” going into the explanation of his role; but am concerned that this will lead into a bigger angle. I do hope it doesn’t and Michaels’ will just “ride out” again after H.I.A.C. for a while. Orton/Miz, while seemed a bit booked later than it should’ve been, great match nonetheless of revenge and domination. As always, loved Bray Wyatt’s promo. His feud with Miz makes decent sense too with what he said tonight.

The Beat The Clock challenges was nice to see as a unique way to continue the feud between Paul Heyman/Ryback/Curtis Axel/C.M. Punk. It was good to see that it backfired time on Heyman, and was both were actual clean finishes. As always, love C.M. on the mike and Heyman’s reaction to his booking H.I.A.C. was beautiful! Brie VS. Tamina was a great match, and A.J. simmering over a downed Brie was perfect for her character.

I liked all the interactions that The Authority (Triple H/Stephanie) had tonight with various wrestlers. I don’t believe they overshadowed this week, as they tend to do, especially at the end. Fantastic main-event, and really glad they made the Tag-Team Title bout the main-event, putting emphasis on all involved and the importance of the championships themselves. Big Show running through the crowd in street clothes was good, because it put the “realism” on the fact that is technically “fired,” as opposed to running in his wrestling gear.

Congrats to The Rhodes Brothers – it is cool to see them as champions, and that was a wonderful match they had with The Shield. It will be interesting to see how long they last. (I’m guessing no longer than Survivor Series.)

Great ending to Raw. They have been really hitting it with exciting, suspenseful closings lately, so let’s hope they keep it going!

Bogus: Fandango/Marella, 3.M.B./Los Matadores, and even Real Americans/Tons Of Funk felt like fillers for the show. Another example of really keeping Raw to two (2) or two-and-a-half hours, seeing the main storylines play out longer. I mean, how many times IN A ROW do we have to see Los Matadores/3.M.B.!?

I’m probably reading too much into this, but thought there was a major issue with Randy Orton invading the trainer’s room and closing the door – if Brie was screaming, wouldn’t help be there a lot quicker than Daniel Bryan? Nice security, WWE!

While the video packages are always top-notch, why are we getting this much hype for John Cena’s return? Nothing against him, in fact kudos for recovering this fast; but he has been gone longer than just two months before, and they’re treating it like he’s been gone for over a year!
