The Smashing Machine opens #3 on the box office chart with a disappointing $6 million

The Smashing Machine opened #3 in the weekend charts according to BoxOfficeMojo.com with just $6,000,171 in box office revenue.

It trailed the Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl which did $33,000,000 and One Battle After Another which had $11,100,000.

Dwayne Johnson’s movie portraying MMA legend Mark Kerr was screened in 3,345 theaters nationwide, so it did just under $2,000 per screening, well below the projections of $15 million for an opening weekend. The movie cost $50 million to make.

Despite rave reviews from critics, The Smashing Machine becomes the worst box office opening of his acting career. His previous worst was the movie Faster which opened with $8.5 million and grossed $35.8 million worldwide by the end of its theatrical run.
