Matt Hardy files trademark application for Broken gimmick

ProWrestlingSheet.com is reporting that Matt Hardy has applied to trademark his Broken Matt Hardy gimmick with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The application is for “Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer.” It also lists the date of April 20, 2016 as the first time it was used and May 20, 2016 as the first commercially used. The filing date was a week ago, March 1.

The application will certainly be opposed by TNA as they already claimed ownership of the gimmick while Hardy insists that the creation of the gimmick was his and he is entitled to keep using it.

What is mind boggling is that over the past year, none of the parties decided that it was a good idea to trademark the creation to protect their intellectual property after the gimmick took off.
