Claudio Castagnoli wins the CMLL World title in Mexico

AEW star and Death Riders member Claudio Castagnoli became the new CMLL World champion last night at Arena Mexico.

The Swiss Superman defeated Gran Guerrero for the belt, ending Guerrero’s 1,117-day reign at the top of the mountain. Gran Guerrero won it from Hechicero in November 2022.

This is just Castagnoli’s third major singles title in his career, with the prior two being reigns with the ROH World title.

For the first time in Mexico, both the CMLL and AAA World titles are held by stars who are technically not under their contract, with Dom Mysterio currently holding the AAA Mega title.
