Current NWA National champion says there’s only one prestigious National Championship

The current NWA National champion, Mike Mondo, took to social media to call out AEW President Tony Khan for creating the AEW National Championship.

Mondo won the title on the NWA 77th Anniversary Show on August 16 in Huntington, New York.

“Let me be CLEAR. There is only ONE NWA & there is only one PRESTIGIOUS National Championship that holds legit lineage & has for decades,” Mondo wrote. “So to Tony Khan or anyone else confused… here’s the legit title, with the company it belongs to & the legit National Champion! MY NAME IS MIKE MONDO.”

The NWA National Championship was created in January 1980 with Austin Idol becoming the first champion at Georgia Championship Wrestling.

Mondo is also known as Mikey of The Spirit Squad from his WWE stint.
