Two new champions crowned at NXT Takeover: WarGames

Two NXT champions were crowned at NXT Takeover: WarGames, with Ember Moon winning the vacant Women’s champion and Andrade “Cien” Almas with a surprise win to become the new NXT champion.

It was Ember Moon’s third crack at the title at NXT Takeover and as the saying goes, third time is the charm! After coming up short twice against Asuka in previous Takeovers, Moon defeated Peyton Royce, Kairi Sane, and Nikki Cross to finally land the gold. Moon hit an impressive double O-Face on Royce and Cross for the pinfall. After the match, Asuka came in the ring and presented Moon with the NXT Women’s championship. This was the first time that the title has been on a different woman than Asuka since NXT Takeover: Dallas.

In the biggest surprise of the night, Andrade “Cien” Almas defeated Drew McIntyre to win the NXT title. McIntyre won the title at Takeover: Brooklyn III in August. Almas, who has been with NXT since November 2015, was floating in the middle of the card until he was paired with Zelina Vega, the artist formerly known as Rosita in TNA. Almas won the match after a nasty looking DDT. After the match, one of the trainers attended to McIntyre who looked like he injured his arm or shoulder.
