Speaking to investors following the TKO Group Q3 earnings report, TKO Chief Operating Officer and President Mark Shapiro played down the recent cooling off on WWE ticket sales.
“Look, there’s nothing here. These are ghosts,” Shapiro said when answering the question.
He said WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas was down “as planned” and how internally forecasted. Events in Canada were also affected because it seems USA is doing everything to “piss off our friendly neighbors” by renaming lakes and adding tariffs.
The live event segment registered a $24.8 million decrease compared to the prior year quarter, which TKO attributed to decrease in ticket sales, lower SummerSlam sales, and three fewer main roster PLEs.
“You’re not going to do in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2 days what you did in New York, New Jersey. It’s just a different DMA,” Shapiro added regarding SummerSlam. “Going back to the Midwest was important to us. And Minneapolis is a strong market and performed extremely well in a stadium. So we’re proud of that.”
