The Rock was not at WrestleMania this past weekend, but he did appear via video on The Pat McAfee Show today to discuss WrestleMania and his lack of involvement.
Johnson said that a month or so before Elimination Chamber, he got a call from Ari Emanuel who asked him to appear because of two things: ticket sales were slower than anticipated and they wanted to make Elimination Chamber special.
He said that during phone conversations with higher-ups in WWE, they decided to run with what happened at the Chamber. But after that, he said his work was done and it was up to Cena and Cody to make it work.
Johnson noted that had he appeared in the build-up or even at WrestleMania, the spotlight would have been on him rather than John Cena, who is now a heel and chasing the record breaking #17.
“Let the Final Boss step back into the shadows and let all the spotlight go to John. Let it go to Cody. Let’s not make it about John’s soul or Cody’s soul. Let’s let them do what they do,” Johnson told McAfee.
Speaking about the match, he said he was surprised to see Travis Scott come out and immediately thought that fans would now think that he’s next. And while he loved how the match ended, Rock said he would have changed a few things here and there and how they got to the finish.
He again doubled down on the fact that he should not have been involved and all the spotlight should have been on Cena.
“Why get involved in that finish when the spotlight should just be on, in my opinion, John…17, heel champion, what does 2025 look like if this man is saying he’s going to ruin professional wrestling,” The Rock continued. “That to me is the anchoring storyline.”
The Rock said that they will eventually revisit the “soul” storyline and revealed that Seth Rollins texted him and said when it’s time, his soul is for sale as well.
