Smackdown to air live on FOX on New Year’s Day

The New Year’s Day episode of Friday Night Smackdown will be airing live on FOX, giving WWE Superstars and crew zero time off to celebrate the new year.

This is not the first time that WWE went live on January 1 but there have been occasions before where Raw or Smackdown which fell on New Year’s day were taped.

Smackdown also fell on January 1 last year when it aired on Tuesday, getting 2,091,000 viewers. That was a taped episode and did not air live.

Speaking of taped, the Christmas Day episode of Smackdown will be recorded a few days ahead so the crew will get to spend Christmas with their families at least.
