NXT North American title vacated, new winner to be crowned in a ladder match

The NXT North American title was vacated by Keith Lee on last night’s NXT on USA Network, with Lee saying that he did not want to “limit” the opportunities of his peers and since he’s also the NXT champion, he would be vacating the other title.

A new champion will be crowned on the upcoming NXT Takeover: XXX live on August 22 from the Performance Center in Orlando in a ladder match. The participants of that ladder match will be decided over the next few weeks in triple threat matches. The inaugural NXT North American champion was also crowned during a ladder match at NXT Takeover: New Orleans.

The first triple threat match was held last night with Gargano, Strong, and Reed facing off for a spot on the Takeover event. Bronson Reed won the match to advance. Another match for next week will see Dexter Lumis vs Finn Balor vs Timothy Thatcher with the winner also moving on to the ladder match.

Lee held the title for a total of 182 days, winning it against Roderick Strong on the first episode of NXT on USA Network in September 2019.
