New number one contenders for two NXT titles to be determined next week

Two new number one contenders for the NXT title and NXT Women’s title will be decided next week in two different gimmick matches where the winners will get their shots at the upcoming NXT Takeover on October 4.

The men will participate in a Gauntlet Eliminator match, a new concept based on a gauntlet match. The rules are that two individuals will start the match and new competitors join every four minutes. Pinfall or submission are the only way to be eliminated from the match and the last man standing wins, becoming the number one contender for Finn Balor’s NXT title.

This will be Finn Balor’s first title defense since he won it on NXT last week.

The women will be participating in a battle royal and the winner takes on Io Shirai.

The announced participants so far include Aliyah, Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai, Indi Hartwell, Kacy Catanzaro, Kayden Carter, Raquel Gonzalez, Rhea Ripley, Shotzi Blackheart, Tegan Nox, and Xia Li. They were all featured in a graphic promoting the match so others could eventually be added next week.

The current champion won her title in June and had a successful defense at Takeover: XXX last month beating Dakota Kai.
