Match to determine #1 contender for Universal title Extreme Rules called off

The planned number one contender match for the WWE Universal title at Extreme Rules has been called off.

Originally announced last week, a multi-man match was set to headline Extreme Rules with the winner facing Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. However Lesnar’s participation at SummerSlam is still not a lock and then Heyman went on a rant on Facebook saying that there’s no one big enough to share the stage with his client, going through names such as Reigns, Lashley, Rollins, Balor, Elias, and others.

Heyman instead said that the current Universal champion will instead focus on more pressing “ultimate” opportunities, an obvious reference to the UFC.

On Raw last night, Kurt Angle called off the match which so far only had Lashley and Reigns as participants. The two are looking to go against each other instead at Extreme Rules.
