Jack Swagger asks for WWE release

Jack Swagger announced on the Chael Sonnen Beyond The Fight podcast that he asked for his release from WWE yesterday.

Swagger said that this was a business decision and contract negotiations didn’t go as planned as they did not value him at what he thought he was valued at. The former World champion explained that he was not given the opportunity to make decent income for his family and when it goes down to that, “it’s time to go.”

Swagger added that he’s going to keep on wrestling whether that be Mexico, Japan, or United Kingdom and if someone wants to pay him a lot of money, he’ll get in the cage as well.

The 34-year-old has been signed to a WWE deal since 2006, first starting in developmental and then slowly making his way up to the main roster. He made his television debut in September 2008 on the ECW brand and then moved to Raw in June of the following year. Although being an accomplished wrestler, his WWE career took a nose dive after winning the Money In The Bank ladder match in 2010 and then cashing in to win the World Heavyweight title against Chris Jericho on Smackdown two days after WrestleMania XXVI. Later in his career, he was teamed up with Zeb Colter and Cesaro and then with Alberto Del Rio but slowly drifted away from television.

During his time in WWE, Swagger won the ECW title, World Heavyweight title, and the United States title.
