Interim WWE Women’s champion to be crowned at SummerSlam 2026

An interim WWE Women’s champion will be crowned at SummerSlam as Rhea Ripley does not seem likely to be returning from her injury within the next few weeks.

On Smackdown last night it was announced that qualifying matches will be held to determine five contenders who will then wrestle in a ladder match at SummerSlam to crown the new interim champion.

Interim champions are rarely used in WWE and usually those injured are stripped off their title.

The first two qualifiers were held last night, with Tiffany Stratton defeating Jacy Jayne and Jade Cargill defeating Nia Jax, with both advancing to SummerSlam.

Jax will have another shot at this next week versus Charlotte Flair since Flair cost her the DQ loss last night.
