Executive who spearheaded the launch of WWE Network departs for the NFL

The Sports Business Daily today revealed that the NFL has hired WWE’s Executive Vice President of Global Digital Media Perkins Miller as its new Chief Digital Officer.

Miller played a big role in the creation of the WWE Network and his departure will surely be felt at WWE Headquarters. Miller was a presenter at the launch of the Network in Las Vegas, showing the press how the Network works and the features of WWE’s latest venture.

The NFL hired Miller to help expand their over-the-top service called NFL Now, similar to the WWE Network. The sports league issued an internal memo disclosing a series of personnel changes and reorganizations in NFL Media and Miller’s name was listed as one of the key hirings.

Perkins Miller joined WWE in August 2012 and was hired to oversee the development of strategic plans and initiatives across all of WWE’s digital and social channels on a global basis. He reported directly to Stephanie McMahon when she was still Executive Vice President of Creative before moving to Chief Brand Officer.

In 2008, Miller was named among Sports Business Journal’s Top 20 Most Influential in Digital Sports.
