App for WWE Network users in Canada in the works

During the WWE conference call with investors, Chief Strategy & Financial Officer George Barrios said that there is a plan to give Canadian fans a modified app of the WWE Network so they can watch what US – and the rest of the world – fans see.

“We didn’t mention it, but our plan is to eventually offer an authenticated version of the app in Canada. So you have kind of the similar looking feel as you would have here,” Barrios said, adding that there might be advertising capability built into it.

This would be similar to the HBO Go app for example which would most likely be controlled by Rogers rather than WWE.

While Canada is so far the only one getting the WWE Network via traditional television rather than the OTT model, Vince McMahon said that the deal was “basically an offer that we couldn’t turn down.”

WWE Network arrives in Canada on August 12.
