WrestleMania 39 tickets surpass 109,000 sold

Tickets for the two-night WrestleMania 39 in Inglewood have now surpassed 109,000 with the show on track to being one of the most successful in the company history, both attendance wise and from a financial standpoint.

New numbers released by the Wrestling Observer reveals that night one is now at 54,383 tickets sold while night two is at 54,914 sold for a combined total of 109,297.

To accommodate for the added interest, WWE opened up more seats in the 400 and 500 levels behind the stage for night one and night two. Some ringside seats are still available starting from a whopping $10,000…per night! Limited two-day combo seats are also available for purchase.

Earlier this month, WWE announced that WrestleMania 39 broke the company’s all-time gate record for any WrestleMania but never divulged any figures. The previous record was $17.3 million in 2016 for WrestleMania 32 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Merchandise at the Rumble runs out as fans flock to buy apparel

It’s safe to say that Cody Rhodes was one of the most popular WWE Superstars this past weekend in San Antonio when it comes to merchandise.

Rhodes’ merchandise, from hoodies to shirts to caps and everything in between, flew off the shelves at the WWE Superstore and inside the Alamodome. Right after he won the Royal Rumble, WWE put out a new ‘Undesirable, Undeniable, Uncrowned’ shirt for sale inside the stadium and the Superstore was stocked with the shirt the following day as well.

WWE made a lot of money in merchandise sales at the Royal Rumble, and when Triple H said during the press conference that they have to start bringing in more merchandise for these shows, he wasn’t kidding.

Several shelves at the WWE Superstore on Sunday morning were empty, with only the new Cody shirt, a few Rumble baseball caps, title belts, and some other items were left on sale, with the store practically stripped of stock.

Title belts were also selling like crazy in the store, most of them running in the hundreds of dollars each.

WWE Shop is currently running a promotion of up to 40% off on select merchandise with free shipping on orders over $39 using the code WWE39.

Jey Uso: “I’m out”

In a post on Instagram, Jey Uso continued the Bloodline storyline following his walkout on Saturday night at the Royal Rumble.

“I’m out,” Jey wrote along with an emoji of a blood drop. The photo of the post was of him being conflicted about what happened on Saturday when Sami Zayn turned on them and hit Roman Reigns with the chair.

While Jey helped with the annihilation of Kevin Owens, he did not participate in beating up Sami Zayn, although he was mighty mad at him, telling him that he treated him like a brother. Sami apologized to Jey before he got taken out by the Bloodline.

Jey opted to leave the ring and walk out, leaving a confusing look on the rest of his family.

Cody Rhodes joins Logan Paul on tomorrow’s IMPAULSIVE show

The 2023 Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes will be a guest on Logan Paul’s IMPAULSIVE YouTube show tomorrow.

The episode was taped after the Royal Rumble in San Antonio at a makeshift studio.

“I just wrapped up here on IMPAULSIVE and we discussed the fact that in the 2023 Royal Rumble, I eliminated…” Cody said before being cut off by Paul.

“I’m not mad! I’m not mad because you did our show,” joked Paul.

Cody was the one who took out Paul at the Rumble after Paul surprisingly eliminated Seth Rollins from the match, suggesting maybe a match against him at WrestleMania.

Cody is not the first Superstar to be part of Paul’s show and last year it was Roman Reigns who appeared, setting up a match between the two for Crown Jewel.

Pat McAfee’s return at the Rumble kept a surprise from everyone

PWInsider.com is reporting that Pat McAfee’s appearance yesterday at the Royal Rumble was kept as a surprise from pretty much everyone in the company.

The reactions from Michael Cole and Corey Graves were as real as they can get as the two were also not informed that they were having a third man to help out. Cole mentioned on commentary that he FaceTime’d McAfee earlier in the day and he was in a studio in Indianapolis.

Production crew were told about McAfee before he stepped out in front of the crowd, resulting in a mad dash to get the equipment for him prepped and another seat at the commentary table.

McAfee took a leave of absence from WWE a few months ago to do commentary for College GameDay. With college football done, he is free to return, and the plan was always to get him back after football was over.

WWE has not announced if McAfee will resume working for them on Friday Night Smackdown. Wade Barrett replaced McAfee when he left.

Triple H says Cody is a “special talent” and “special human being”

Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes said that he’s ready to play quarterback for Triple H when asked about the change in creative from last time he was around during the post-RR press conference.

Acknowledging that Triple H has “no reason” to be a fan of his considering what he’s done and said in the past about him, Cody said he’s glad that they can now develop a relationship and that he’s a big Triple H fan.

Getting emotional, Cody said that he owes Triple H a lot for how he handled his father, but he doesn’t want Triple H to look at him and see his father.

“I want him to look at me and see me. And today, I felt like he saw me, and that’s very important. My last name’s done a lot of things for me, but we’re at a point in my career where my first name has to do some things as well. And it’s off to a great start, so let’s see where we go from here,” Cody said.

Triple H joined the press conference after Cody and said that he can’t help it that he sees Dusty when he looks at Cody.

“I look in his eyes, and I see his dad’s eyes. I see Dusty. But I see all the best things of Dusty, and then I see something more in Cody,” the WWE COO said. “So it’s not about comparing him. I just see the greatness of his dad amplified in his dad’s son. And that’s something special. He’s a special talent. A special human being. And I’m very proud of him for that.”

Statistics from the 2023 Royal Rumble

There were not much surprises at the two Royal Rumble matches this year but there were a few stand out moments nonetheless.

The men’s match, which went on first, lasted one hour and 11 minutes and 42 seconds, considerably longer than last year’s match which went on for 51 minutes only. It had 10 entrants from the Smackdown brand, 19 from the Raw brand, and one Hall of Fame surprise in the form of Booker T.

Rey Mysterio, who was supposed to enter at #17, never made it out due to an injury so effectively this was a 29-man Rumble match.

Gunther was the iron man of this match and went for the full duration of the match after he went in at #1 but was eliminated last by the eventual winner Cody Rhodes, who came in at #30.

Both Gunther and Rhodes eliminated the most men, five each, while Drew McIntyre threw out four. Sheamus and Brock Lesnar tied for three each while Seth Rollins, Finn Baylor, and Edge had two to their name. Bobby Lashley, Dominik Mysterio, Damian Priest, Austin Theory, Braun Strowman, and Logan Paul had one elimination each.

Edge, Logan Paul, and Booker T were the surprise entrants this year. Edge lasted only one minute before being thrown out. Paul had a highlight reel moment with Ricochet and lasted nearly 11 minutes, while Booker T lasted 42 seconds before being dispatched by Gunther, although he did get a spinaroonie in!

Baron Corbin had the record of the least time in the ring this year with just seven seconds on the clock after he was taken out by Brock Lesnar before he entered the ring and then eliminated by Seth Rollins.

The women’s match lasted one hour, one minute, and seven seconds and was almost the same time as last year which went to 59 minutes and 40 seconds.

Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan, who came in at #1 and #2 respectively, went coast-to-coast and outran everyone, being the first two and final two. Ripley won the match after being a runner up in 2021.

Unsurprisingly, Rhea Ripley had the most eliminations with a total of seven. Bayley, Dakota Kai, and IO SKY had five each while Liv Morgan, Asuka, Raquel Rodriguez, and Sonya Deville had three each. Becky Lynch, Piper Niven, Mia Tim, Lacey Evans, and Michelle McCool had two eliminations each while Zelina Vega, Shotzi, and Nikki Cross had one each.

12 Superstars were from the Raw roster, 11 were from Smackdown, three were from NXT, and three were returns. Michelle McCool, Chelsea Green, and Nia Jax were the ones who returned while NXT Women’s champion Roxanne Perez, Zoey Stark, and Indie Hartwell represented NXT.

Piper Niven, who returned to her former name after Doudrop was dropped, was also a surprise return, and so were Natalya, and Asuka, who went back to the murder clown look to a big ovation from the crowd.

The returning Chelsea Green was this year’s quickest exit with just five seconds on the clock before being thrown out by Rhea Ripley.

Zelina Vega lands role in new Street Fighter 6 video game

Video game publishers Capcom announced that WWE Superstar Zelina Vega has lended her “electrifying personality and voice” to the real time commentary feature as a color commentator in the upcoming Street Fighter 6 video game.

Vega entered the Royal Rumble yesterday dressed as Juri Han, a playable character in the Street Fighter game and even had a cool spot with Xia Li where the two did a pose from the game before Vega eliminated Li.

The former Queen of the Ring is an avid gamer and massive fan of the Street Fighter franchise so her involvement is not surprising.

Street Fighter 6 is planned for release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on June 2, 2023.

Triple H on The Rock at WrestleMania: “I just don’t think it’s in the cards”

At the Royal Rumble post-match press conference, WWE COO Paul “Triple H” Levesque addressed the rumors of The Rock returning for WrestleMania.

The Rock was rumored to be part of the Royal Rumble premium live event but “If ya smell….” never hit the speakers. While there was a huge buzz around him for being at the show, WWE never said that he would be there although there were a lot of hints dropped along the way.

Addressing the wrestling media, Triple H joked that they all told him that Johnson “can’t get in shape in time” before turning serious.

“He’s incredibly busy,” Levesque said. Noting that The Rock has an open-door invitation and can walk in to WWE at any time he wants to, he admitted that as for WrestleMania, “I just don’t think it’s in the cards.”

He said that there’s a part of Johnson that says if he could be there for Mania, he would “turn over every stone and walk through fire” to do it but other commitments are likely preventing it from happening.

“He wouldn’t want to do it unless he could absolutely do it, you know? There’s no way he would show up here and half-ass it,” Triple H said. “There’s no way he would show up here and not come in and put every single thing into it to make it the best it could possibly be. So unless he could do that, it won’t happen.”

Nia Jax and Chelsea Green return at the Royal Rumble

There weren’t much surprises in any of the two Royal Rumble matches but the women’s match had two notable returns in the form of Chelsea Green and Nia Jax.

Chelsea Green entered the Rumble at #20 and set a new record for the quickest elimination in a women’s Royal Rumble match. Green didn’t even last one second as she was disposed by the eventual winner Rhea Ripley.

Green, the wife of Matt Cardona, was released from WWE in April 2021 after a stint filled with injuries. She worked for Impact Wrestling until her return last night.

Cardona took to Twitter to congratulate his wife, saying that on his first night back she was already setting new records!

Meanwhile, production screwed up Nia Jax’s surprise as they hit her music before the countdown started. Eventually the countdown was removed and Jax came out at #30. She had a lot to say to the women in the ring, who surrounded her and beat her together. The 11 remaining women then teamed up to throw her out, with Jax lasting only just under two minutes.

Jax was released from WWE in October 2021 while she was on her time off due to mental health. She did not wrestle anywhere since then and last year turned down a one-night invitation back for the women’s Rumble match.

Sami Zayn turns on The Bloodline at The Rumble, but pays for his actions

The Bloodline as we know it is over as Zayn failed the final test by Roman Reigns.

Last night at the Royal Rumble, Honorary Uce Sami Zayn turned on his “family” after Roman Reigns tried to force him to hit Kevin Owens with a chair while he was handcuffed to the ring ropes.

Zayn thought and thought about it but when Reigns turned his back, it was he who got a chair across his back in a visual similar to that of when Seth Rollins turned on The Shield.

The fans inside the Alamodome exploded but the cheers were short-lived as Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa took out Zayn. Jey, who was conflicted over what was happening, left his family and walked up the aisle, choosing not to participate in the annihilation of Zayn.

With chants of “F*ck you Roman” around the Alamodome, the rest of the Bloodline left Zayn and Owens in a mess in the ring, as the two frenemies had no one come out to help them.

Royal Rumble 2023 results

Here are the results from the 2023 Royal Rumble premium live event which took place from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Rhea Ripley wins the 2023 women’s Royal Rumble match

After coming close to winning it in 2021, Rhea Ripley finally won the women’s Royal Rumble match and she did it after coming out at #1.

Ripley was joined by the returning Asuka, Nikki Cross, and Liv Morgan, who herself came in at #2, to make the final four.

Cross was eliminated first and then Asuka was kicked out by Ripley who had just avoided green mist in her face. Unfortunately for Morgan, it was her who ended up on the receiving end of the mist and a minute later she was spectacularly thrown out after Ripley hung on to the ropes.

Fans inside the Alamodome approved of the win and gave Ripley a big ovation after she threw Morgan out.

The Judgment Day member now has a choice to make: to go either for the Raw or Smackdown Women’s title at WrestleMania 39.

Cody Rhodes wins the men’s 2023 Royal Rumble match

Cody Rhodes went from undesirable to undeniable to the WrestleMania main event as the former AEW EVP won the men’s Royal Rumble match.

Cody entered in #30 and received a big pop from the San Antonio crowd who even sang the lyrics to his theme song.

It was Cody, Gunther, Seth Rollins, and Logan Paul who were the final four. Paul eliminated Rollins first and then Cody hit the Cross Rhodes on Paul and threw him out.

Gunther, who came in at #1, went toe-to-toe with Rhodes and the two even had a match to end the Rumble which concluded with Cody clotheslining Gunther over the top rope.

The American Nightmare then celebrated in the ring and did the customary pointing to the WrestleMania sign, which this time did not catch fire after the pyro set off.

This was Cody’s first time back in front of the WWE fans since the night after Hell In A Cell back in early June as he recovered from a torn pec.

Royal Rumble 2023 pick ‘em report

Hey everybody! It’s @TheMagnumDA with another installment of the PPV Pick’em report. Tonight? It’s time to RUMBLE!! It’s time…for the ROYAL RUMBLE live from San Antonio, Texas!!

Without question, this is one of the most entertaining PPV’s of the year, and it’s also the most unpredictable. That means my WOPC Championship is in serious jeopardy! I will be defending the title in a Fatal 4 Way against our own Colin Vassallo, Brother Bull, and newcomer LeRoy Jenkins.

In addition to our match picks, there’s going to be up to 12 bonus points available in both the Women’s and Men’s Rumble match. Who’s going to be Champion by the end of the night? Let’s find out – ON WITH THE PICKS!

Women’s Royal Rumble match (Winning pick worth 4 points – each bonus question worth 1 point)

Colin: I think there’s only one person who should be winning this thing this year and that is Rhea Ripley. Simply put, she has been the most consistent on television and apart from her time out with injury, she rocked it with Judgment Day. Belair vs Ripley would be awesome at WrestleMania.

Bonus #1 (Who draws #1?): Liv Morgan
Bonus #2 (Who draws #2?): Rhea Ripley
Bonus #3 (Who draws #30?): Trish Stratus
Bonus #4 (Most Eliminations): Rhea Ripley
Bonus #5 (Runner-Up): Asuka
Bonus #6 (Ironwoman): Rhea Ripley

Bull: I also believe Rhea Ripley is going to win – she’s my pick. She’s on the roll of a lifetime.

Bonus #1 (Who draws #1?): Bayley
Bonus #2 (Who draws #2?): Becky Lynch
Bonus #3 (Who draws #30?): Beth Phoenix
Bonus #4 (Most Eliminations): Rhea Ripley
Bonus #5 (Runner-Up): Becky Lynch
Bonus #6 (Ironwoman): Bayley

LeRoy: Rhea Ripley seems like the popular pick – I’m taking her as well.

Bonus #1 (Who draws #1?): Lacey Evans
Bonus #2 (Who draws #2?): Emma
Bonus #3 (Who draws #30?): Zelina Vega
Bonus #4 (Most Eliminations): Rhea Ripley
Bonus #5 (Runner-Up): Bayley
Bonus #6 (Ironwoman): Rhea Ripley

Magnum: Knowing that some of my Pick’em opponents would be riding the Ripley Express, I was inclined to go with someone else. But here’s the problem…less than 10 women have been announced so far (for this match). We have no idea if Ronda Rousey will be in this match. If we were able to confirm that Charlotte Flair was in this match, I would consider her a favorite (even as SmackDown Women’s Champion). If Alexa or Bianca lose, are they in the match? There’s too many unknowns…which is why the safe play is Rhea Ripley.

Bonus #1 (Who draws #1?): Liv Morgan
Bonus #2 (Who draws #2?): Valhalla
Bonus #3 (Who draws #30?): Lita
Bonus #4 (Most Eliminations): Raquel Rodriguez
Bonus #5 (Runner-Up): Becky Lynch
Bonus #6 (Ironwoman): Liv Morgan

Pitch Black Match
Bray Wyatt vs. LA Knight

Colin: I honestly have no idea what I’m expecting out of this one. Are they wrestling in the dark? How are we watching then? I dunno what’s up with Wyatt matches and different lighting. Remember the awful red lights for The Fiend? Now it’s black!? Knight winning would only make sense if Uncle Howdy interferes and costs Wyatt the match. They seem to have strapped a rocket to Knight’s ass and I’m picking him for the win.

Bull: I’m also rolling with Bray Wyatt – LA Knight has had a good run here, but Wyatt is going to take him out.

LeRoy: Bray Wyatt is going to smoke this fool LA Knight. Bank on it.

Magnum: Wow – Colin’s got some balls to take Knight. I gotta say this, though…at first, Knight didn’t seem like he could hang with Wyatt. I don’t know if he’s going to come out of this any better off, but I think he’s more than held his own…while Wyatt continues to speak and act in ambiguity. I have heard the rumblings of Uncle Howdy making an appearance, but I don’t know if it’s to help LA Knight…in fact, he might be there to hurt him. Give me Bray in his first PPV match in nearly two years.

WWE Raw Women’s Championship Match
Bianca Belair (c) vs. Alexa Bliss

Colin: I think this is where officially Bliss jumps to the dark side…but only after she loses the match to Belair. I can’t see Belair not walking into WrestleMania as the champion. There’s more star power in her than Bliss. Sorry, Alexa. Bianca retains.

Bull: I’m thinking Bianca will likely lose the title in the Elimination Chamber, but I’ll take her to retain tonight.

LeRoy: I think Alexa Bliss is going to come out of this match the new Raw Women’s Champion.

Magnum: You know, I’m inclined to go with Bliss too. All signs point to Bianca vs. Charlotte at WrestleMania, and while I don’t believe Alexa is going to be the Raw Women’s Champion at Mania…I could see something shocking happening here to take the title off Bianca. Maybe even an appearance by Charlotte? Or Bray/Uncle Howdy? Nah. Give me Bianca to retain.

WWE Universal Championship Match
Roman Reigns (c) (with Paul Heyman) vs. Kevin Owens

Colin: This should be gooood. So many possibilities involved with Sami Zayn. They did this match a few years ago already and Reigns obviously won. If it was for one of the titles, I would have picked KO to win, but this is for both titles and just like Belair, there’s no way Reigns walks into WrestleMania without one of the titles. Will Sami pass his “ultimate test” tonight? I dunno, for once I’m really not sure how they’re going to pull this off. Still, result remains the same: Roman Reigns wins.

Bull: I’m taking Roman to retain. I think the “final test” for Sami is this match, and he will help The Bloodline keep the title with the family.

LeRoy: I will also take Roman Reigns to retain, thanks to a little help from Sami Zayn.

Magnum: The obvious pick is Roman retaining – the question is how. It’s possible that Sami could cost Roman the match via DQ, leading to a rematch between KO and Roman at the Elimination Chamber (in Montreal, of all places). I’ve also heard about Sami possibly getting the title shot at the Chamber too – see my Rumble pick for more about that. In the end, I do feel like whatever Sami does (or doesn’t do), Roman will end up victorious in this match.

Men’s Royal Rumble match (Winning pick worth 4 points – each bonus question worth 1 point)

Colin: This has to be Cody’s year right? That’s what he came back for. He got injured and now he’s making his grand return. Typically those who return at the Rumble after a long injury, they end up winning. Predictable? Yes, but sometimes predictable is the best choice. And this is the best choice. Cody needs to win the title at WrestleMania this year.

Bonus #1 (Who draws #1?): Ricochet
Bonus #2 (Who draws #2?): Seth Rollins
Bonus #3 (Who draws #30?): Bro! Riddle!
Bonus #4 (Most Eliminations): Bobby Lashley
Bonus #5 (Runner-Up): Seth Rollins
Bonus #6 (Ironman): Seth Rollins

Bull: I can’t believe I’m saying this…but with all the rumblings (ha!) about Stone Cold Steve Austin coming back, I can’t help but think that the unthinkable is about to happen. Austin makes history and wins his 4th Royal Rumble.

Bonus #1 (Who draws #1?): Seth Rollins
Bonus #2 (Who draws #2?): Cody Rhodes
Bonus #3 (Who draws #30?): Stone Cold Steve Austin
Bonus #4 (Most Eliminations): Solo Sikoa
Bonus #5 (Runner-Up): Brock Lesnar
Bonus #6 (Ironman): Cody Rhodes

LeRoy: I know there’s going to be some surprises in this Royal Rumble, but I think the winner is right in front of us – Seth Freakin’ Rollins.

Bonus #1 (Who draws #1?): Omos
Bonus #2 (Who draws #2?): Braun Strowman
Bonus #3 (Who draws #30?): Cody Rhodes
Bonus #4 (Most Eliminations): Braun Strowman
Bonus #5 (Runner-Up): Cody Rhodes
Bonus #6 (Ironman): Kofi Kingston

Magnum: That Austin pick takes some big grapefruits, not gonna lie. If Rock or Austin show up in this match, you can completely disregard my pick, because I wouldn’t have any idea who to pick if they were in the match.

The safe play is obviously Cody Rhodes, as he is returning from injury and this would be the ideal spot to return and secure a Main Event spot at WrestleMania. Having said that, there’s more than one way for Cody to get a title shot at WrestleMania…in fact, it could happen in February at the Elimination Chamber. A little adversity for Cody wouldn’t hurt his quest to become a champion.

Ultimately, I see two callbacks happening in this match – the nWo’s dominance at World War 3 in 1996, and the Evolution heel turn from 2004 (where Triple H excommunicated Randy Orton after he became World Champion). I see The Bloodline working together as a unit, tossing guys left and right until it’s down to Cody and Seth vs. all four Bloodline members. In the end, during a struggle between Seth, Cody, and Solo…Sami Zayn sees a window of opportunity and eliminates all three men to win the Rumble…which seals his fate with The Bloodline.

Bonus #1 (Who draws #1?): Cody Rhodes
Bonus #2 (Who draws #2?): Seth Rollins
Bonus #3 (Who draws #30?): Riddle
Bonus #4 (Most Eliminations): Solo Sikoa
Bonus #5 (Runner-Up): Cody Rhodes
Bonus #6 (Ironman): Cody Rhodes

There you have it! I hope everyone enjoys the show tonight. We will see you next month for the ELIMINATION CHAMBER!! @TheMagnumDA signing off.

Seth Rollins on CM Punk: “Stay away, you cancer!”

At a WWE 2K23 event this morning in San Antonio, Seth Rollins was asked about what he would think about a potential CM Punk return to the WWE by Nick Hausman of WrestlingInc.com.

The answer was not pretty to say the very least.

“Oh Philly Phil. Stay away, you cancer,” Rollins said. “Get away from me forever. I don’t like Phil. He’s a jerk.”

The former champion continued, “Did we just figure that out? Everybody in the room is like ‘oh no did he say that?’ He’s a jerk come on, they figured it out over there, we knew it over here. I don’t want him back. Go do something else. Bye bye. See you later.”

Punk’s status with AEW remains unknown as he continues to recover from the injury he suffered at All Out.

Kurt Angle says Hulk Hogan has no more feeling in legs after latest op

Speaking on his latest episode of The Kurt Angle Show, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle said that Hulk Hogan is in really bad shape and can no longer feel his legs following the latest operation on his back.

Angle said that he talked to Hulk for half an hour backstage at RAW IS XXX and the Hulkster had his nerves cut from his lower body and now needs a cane to walk around.

“I thought he was using the cane because he has pain in his back,” Angle said. “He doesn’t have any pain, he has nothing at all. He can’t feel anything.”

Hogan appeared at the start of the broadcast to welcome everyone to the 30th anniversary of Monday Night Raw and was not featured again on the show. His struggles with back issues are widely documented with many believing he will end up in a wheelchair.
