Rampage TV report for 05/13/2023

AEW Rampage tonight comes to us from Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit, MI.  After last week drawing 294,000 & 0.09 in the 18-49 demo.

*****

The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn vs Butcher, Blade & Kip Sabian

Backstory: None

‘Yo Butch, you a bitch my man, got the worst moustache since Vince McMahon’ was the highlight of the pre-match rap.  Before Kip & Bowens set it off, the latter dropping the former via shoulder block, thrust kick and over-the-shoulder fameasser.

Caster & Blade in – bodyslam, Scissor Me Timbers – leading to Caster being dumped outside by Butcher before the heels mock-scissored and Kip launched a moonsault to the outside, very nearly knee-ing Bowens in the head.

A loud ‘We want daddy’ chant as the heels worked over Bowens on the wrong side of the ring, the crowd into this opener.

Ads.

A Kip cannonball continued the assault.  A Butcher backbreaker bagged two, Bowens still cut-off from his compadres.  Until striking via thrust kick, making the crawl, Gunn in, all three heels hit with right hands until a powerslam to Butcher allowed Kip & Blade to strike from behind.

Caster in illegally to dropkick and pancake Kip, leaving him prone for a Fameasser, Blade making the save at two.  Bowens in – Arrival, Mic Drop, victory.

Nothing match; hot crowd – pretty good analogy for the Acclaimed who remain far more popular than their storylines and involvement should suggest.

Btw, this is the same Butcher we were supposed to believe could win the Int’nl Title a few weeks back.

Winner: The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn

Seems AEW haven’t yet given up on QTV.  Ostensibly as a vehicle to air the frustrations of higher-ups.  Since this week hyped the 60,000+ tickets sold for Wembley as Solo whispered to Harley that it only seats 8,000 (Tony Khan last week got into it with a – admittedly dubious – journalist about seating plans).

‘Btw has anyone heard from the champ?’ asked QT in an example of fiction emulating reality.  Cut to what looked like a low-budget porn film as a barely clothed Cameron ‘interviewed’ a bare-chested Hobbs on a couch.  His story isn’t over, ‘all that matters is who’s holding the pen’.

Insider references and the real star getting a single sentence.  Seems a great use of tv time.  Poor Hobbs.

Toni Storm vs Allysin Kay

Backstory: None

They replayed Shida getting one over on the Outcasts and hyped Dynamite’s trios match as Storm made her entrance.

Kay had a flurry early, stomping Toni down in the corner until Saraya grabbed the boot; Ruby threw a cheap shot too as Saraya shouted ‘that’s what we do baby’.  It sure is.  The exact same thing.  Every.  Single.  Week.

Both then stomped away outside after Toni hip-attacked Kay off the apron.

Kay stun-gunned Storm across the ropes, hit a neckbreaker and lariat for two.  Storm came back with a tornado ddt, Kay countered Storm Zero as Ruby and Saraya simultaneously hit the apron to prevent the cover.

Storm hit a German, hip attack, Storm Zero.  Spraypaint.

I’d be very happy to never see the Outcasts ever again.

Winner: Toni Storm

Backstage, the Gunns complained about not getting a rematch, promising to win back their tag titles.  Ethan Page interrupted to ask for help.  The three headed off together.

Kyle Fletcher vs Action Andretti

Backstory: None

An Aussie-riddled Rampage continued as Kyle Fletcher made his entrance.  Action Andretti now rolls with Darius Martin for some reason.  Related, have AEW actually acknowledged what happened to Dante on tv?

‘He’s gotta become known for more than ‘I beat Chris Jericho’’ was JR’s verdict on Andretti.  Sums it up perfectly.

Both worked in and out of an armbar, Action using his athleticism to slip out then launch a top rope armdrag and hurracanrana off Fletcher’s shoulders.  A tornijo bagged two.  Before Fletcher blasted him off the apron via leg lariat.

Ads.

Andretti landed on his feet out of a half-&-half, hit a bodyslam and clotheslined Fletcher outside, following via tope suicida, sending him straight back inside, missing via split leg and eating a thrust kick.  A sheer-drop bagged two for Fletcher.  Crowd quiet.

Andretti hit a superplex after leaping to the top, a springboard 450 bagging another two.  Forearm to the back, roundhouse; another Fletcher leg lariat cut him off before a Fidget Spinner bagged the win.  Fletcher mocking Cassidy with a weak thumbs up afterward.

Action Andretti beat Chris Jericho his first night in and has done ‘jack diddly squat’ since, to quote Juice Robinson.  And here lost to a tag guy from another company.  Let’s hope Fletcher’s attack on Cassidy Weds is building to something at or on the way to Forbidden Door.

Otherwise, AEW yet again gave wins and tv time to a guy from another company at the expense of their own talent.

Winner: Kyle Fletcher

Recap of Wednesday’s main event and show-closing angle.

*****

The Hardys and Isiah Kassidy were interrupted by the Gunns.  They and Ethan want a fight.  Kassidy interrupted with a sex noise, this gimmick breaking all sorts of records by becoming tiresome in week two.

Matt said he’d been trying to get away from Ethan for eight months but agreed to the match if they agreed to put control over Ethan’s contract on the line.  The Gunns did so.  Then vowed that the Hardys would never get their hands on the tag titles while they were around.  Before Austin mocked Kassidy’s sex noise as they left.  Enjoyed that.

Matt said they’d ‘delete the Ass Boys’.  Same old…

*****

Notable that when they promo’d tickets for Double or Nothing, there was just a single match they could advertise.

Swerve Strickland & Brian Cage vs John Silver & Alex Reynolds

Backstory: None

Slick, smooth chain-wrestling from Swerve & Reynolds got us going until Strickland avoided a rush in the corner, hit a tejeiras from a sitting position and flew upstairs thinking Stomp as Reynolds slipped out of reach.

Damn Swerve’s smooth.  Incredibly agile.

Cage in, pointing to Silver as Reynolds obliged.  A posedown ensued, the crowd firmly in favor of Silver – Cage didn’t like this much, aiming a cheapshot to the gut and whipping him in only for Silver to rebound via headscissor takedown.  The Machine returned the favor, the two tough to separate as each caught the other out of a cross body, Silver slamming Cage down and continuing to pose.  Momentum with him until Swerve bridged him outside then hit a pump kick from the apron as the break beckoned.

Silver in trouble as we returned, countering a Cage suplex into one of his own before both muscle-men made tags, the pace quickening as Swerve and Reynolds flew around the ring, a pair of running elbows and a neckbreaker taking Swerve out, a basement dropkick through the ropes doing the same to Cage, a pop-up knee-strike, tiger driver and pull-up piledriver resulting in only two as Swerve kicked out.

To the top, superplex ready, Prince Nana hit the apron, distracting Reynolds, Swerve missed a Stomp as Silver & Reynolds ran through their excellent double-team flurry ending in a German/jackknife-pin combo for two.  Cage afterward hauling Reynolds nads-first into the ringpost, Silver diving at him but being caught and held in place for Swerve to hit his running kick to the back of the head, tag to Cage, Reynolds bagged a cradle for a close two but was hit with a pop-up powerbomb then a double-team fireman’s carry slam/neckbreaker combo.

Which seemed like the finish only for him to kick out at 2.9.  Drillclaw ready, Silver broke it up via enziguri, Nana grabbed Silver’s boot in full view of the ref, the heels hit the Drillclaw and JML Driver to Reynolds and Silver respectively as Cage pinned the former.

Afterward, Keith Lee & Dustin Rhodes saved the faces from a further beating after the Gates of Agony hit the ring.

Not as good as it could’ve been despite some fun exchanges.  Crowd not really into it.

Swerve deserves much better.

Winner: Swerve Strickland & Brian Cage

Dwayne Johnson’s series Young Rock “on the bubble” over at NBC

Deadline is reporting that Young Rock is faxing the axe on NBC with the show “on the bubble.”

The third season of the Dwayne Johnson-fronted series ended in February of this year but NBC put it on Friday, head-to-head with Smackdown and on a night typically reserved for drama shows which are getting to their end of life.

Season three of Young Rock failed to cross the 2 million viewership mark, something it did nine times out of 12 episodes last season. Young Rock season three averaged 1,431,000 viewers over 13 episodes, down significantly from the 2,152,000 of season two.

Deadline added that little has been heard about Young Rock, suggesting it is probably not returning. But the series has great DVR numbers and with Johnson at the helm, it would not be surprising if it is renewed.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens going to Saudi Arabia for WWE show

The announcement of the Undisputed WWE Tag Team title match between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn against Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa at the upcoming Night of Champions premium live event in Saudi Arabia caught a lot of fans by surprise.

Sami Zayn, who is of Syrian descent and a Muslim, was previously banned from entering Saudi Arabia as the country did not have any diplomatic relationship with Syria. Zayn later did not want to entertain the idea of going to Saudi for any WWE shows.

His tag team partner Kevin Owens also refused to go to Saudi in the past, in part due to his friendship with Zayn. Owens only participated in one Saudi event, the first one titled The Greatest Royal Rumble, and never went again. When the Khashoggi murder took place in 2018, many WWE Superstars, including John Cena and Daniel Bryan at the time, refused to travel to the show and were replaced as well.

But just a few days ago, Saudi Arabia and Syria announced that they have resumed the work of diplomatic missions in both countries. This is after more than 10 years since Saudi cut ties with Syria over the Syrian government’s handling of its civil war. That might have helped sway Zayn’s decision to go over and do the show.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia decided to resume the work of its diplomatic mission in the Syrian Arab Republic,” the state-run Saudi Press Agency reported Tuesday according to CNN. The announcement came two days after Syria was readmitted into the Arab League.

More on season two of Heels, AJ (Lee) Mendez joins the cast

Further details were released about the second season of Heels, which will resume on Starz on Friday, July 28 at 10PM ET.

The series, starring Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig, is based on a wrestling league in rural Georgia where the men and women of the Duffy Wrestling League chase their dreams.

According to a press release issued by Starz, season two begins after a spectacular showing at the South Georgia State Fair, and the Duffy Wrestling League’s popularity is suddenly on the upswing. Hoping to seize the opportunity, Jack and his cohorts prepare for a possible business deal with a new streaming service that may propel them onto a national stage. But the past and its tragedies threaten to upset everything when Ace leaves Duffy and the Dome in his rearview, meanwhile rival promotion Florida Wrestling Dystopia’s vengeful frontman Gully comes calling.

Former WWE Divas champion AJ “Lee” Mendez is part of the cast of season two, along with her husband and former AEW World champion CM Punk. Punk appeared in a few episodes in the first season of Heels as Ricky Rabies. AJ will play the role of Elle Dorado.

All In with nearly 66,000 tickets distributed, smashing all expectations

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that AEW has so far sold 62,000 tickets for the upcoming All In show at Wembley Stadium for a gate of $7.9 million.

That figure pretty much smashes all expectations the company had for the show and will make All In one of the most-attended wrestling shows in history. All In has already surpassed many WWE stadium events in terms of gate and tickets sold and with three months to go, it has a chance of going for more records.

Meltzer also adds that with comp tickets distributed, the total number of tickets out is at 65,854 and Wembley Stadium is configured to welcome 74,000 fans.

The 74,000 setup can be easily expanded if tickets continue to sell at a fast pace. Judging by the seating chart, AEW will not have a large set and sacrificed that for having additional seats. Wembley can seat over 90,000 fans in a football setting and even more with seats added on the floor.

Top WWE execs to receive $169 million in compensation following Endeavor deal

In new filings with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, WWE revealed what sum its top executives will receive as a compensation once the Endeavor takeover is complete.

Chief Human Resources Officer Suzette Ramirez-Carr will get a cool $3,356,150.

WWE Executive Chairman Vince McMahon, who will be the new Chairman of the Board of the new merged WWE/UFC company, will receive $16,027,770.

Chief Financial Officer Frank Riddick III is one of four individuals who will get a larger sum than Vince McMahon and will get $20,117,225.

Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque will get an additional $25,625,995 in his bank account. Levesque will continue in his role following the merger.

Chief Global Television Production and Executive Producer Kevin Dunn will receive $31,880,058 and hopefully less camera shakes moving forward.

The biggest winner by far is Chief Executive Officer Nick Khan. Khan will get a whopping $72,023,451 once the merger is complete. Khan will be WWE President once the Endeavor move is done as Ari Emanuel will serve as CEO.

Stephanie McMahon, the former co-CEO and Chairwoman who quit the company and resigned from her board position following her father’s return, will get absolutely nothing.

The SEC filing states that McMahon “is not a current employee of WWE. She does not hold any outstanding WWE equity awards and is no longer party to arrangements pursuant to which she could receive cash or severance payments and benefits in connection with the Transactions, including the merger.”

If any of the executives mentioned are terminated, Vince McMahon and Nick Khan will receive 2x the base salary, Levesque and Riddick will get 1.5x of the base of their salary, and Ramirez-Carr will receive 1x of the base salary. Dunn is entitled to receive 12 months of base salary continuation.

Reigns and Sikoa go for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles at Night of Champions

Roman Reigns has a chance to add another title to his collection and come Night of Champions he could be walking out with a total of four title belts!

The Tribal Chief will be teaming up with Solo Sikoa to take on the Undisputed WWE Tag Team champions Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on May 27.

In an in-ring segment on Smackdown, Reigns demanded The Usos apologize for embarrassing him and after palm-facing Jimmy Uso, it was Jey who apologized on behalf of the brothers. Jey wanted another shot at the titles but Reigns had a different idea, with Heyman announcing the match.

Reigns said that this match will be dedicated to Afa and Sika, calling them the greatest of all time.

What’s interesting about this match is that this will be the first time that Sami Zayn is going to a Saudi Arabia trip due to various reasons, including a ban due to him being of Syrian descent.

AJ Styles sets up phenomenal final against Rollins for World Heavyweight title

AJ Styles will be taking on Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight title at Night of Champions after the former WWE champion defeated Bobby Lashley in the main event of Smackdown last night.

In his first match, Styles beat Edge and Rey Mysterio in the triple threat match and that was followed by Bobby Lashley beating Sheamus and Austin Theory in the second triple threat match. Lashley was busted open in his match and bled heavily on his way to the win.

The main event then featured Styles and Lashley, with Styles winning the match with his Phenomenal Forearm.

Styles has just returned from a four-month layoff having broke his ankle in late December.

The WWE World Heavyweight title is a Raw property so if Styles wins he will be moved to the red brand.

A guide for men: how to relax after a hard day?

For those times when all you want to do is take a load off after a hard day at work, it can be difficult finding the right activities to help you wind down and relax. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of options out there, but knowing which ones are best for your individual needs can be challenging. That’s why we’ve put together this guide for men on how to relax after a hard day – so that no matter what kind of person or situation you find yourself in, you have an array of techniques available that will have you feel calmer and more composed in no time!

Take a Hot Bath or Shower – Allow the steam to relax your muscles and clear your mind.

There’s nothing quite like sinking into a steaming hot bath or taking a long, luxurious shower after a long day. As the hot water cascades over your body, you can feel your muscles gradually relax and unwind, releasing any lingering tension from a hectic day. But the benefits of taking a hot bath or shower go beyond just physical relaxation. As you soak or stand under the warm spray, the steam rises and envelops you, clearing your mind and allowing you to let go of any worries or stress you may be carrying. It’s the perfect opportunity to take some much-needed “me time,” allowing your body and mind to fully rejuvenate.

Play Some Online Games – Online games can be a great way to relieve stress, have fun, and take your mind off of worries.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with life’s daily stresses, why not take a break and play some online games? Whether you’re into puzzles or adventure games, there are countless options available to satisfy your gaming needs. Not only are these games entertaining but they also provide the perfect distraction from worries that may be weighing on your mind. And for those seeking some thrill, nothing quite compares to the excitement of playing slots at the casino. Luckily, from Black Lotus Casino to El Royale, there are dozens of online casinos offering a safe and secure gaming experience that can be enjoyed from the comfort of your own home. So why not give it a try and see how gaming can help you relieve stress and have some fun?

Listen to Calming Music – Music can be soothing and help you forget about the day’s stresses.

After a long day at work, it’s natural to feel frazzled and stressed. But there’s a simple solution that can help you leave all that behind and enter a state of tranquility: listening to calming music. Whether you prefer instrumental pieces or soothing vocals, music has a way of helping you forget about the troubles of the day and bask in a peaceful atmosphere. With just a few minutes of your favorite tunes, you’ll feel your tension melt away and your mind become more clear and focused. It’s a truly wonderful tool for relaxation that you can access anytime, anywhere. So take a deep breath, put on some headphones, and let the music work its magic.

Exercise – Exercise releases endorphins which can make you feel more relaxed and energized.

When it comes to hitting the gym, we often focus on the physical benefits such as weight loss or building muscle. However, exercise is not only great for your body but for your mind too. When you work out, your brain releases endorphins which are natural chemicals that can boost your mood and make you feel happier. Endorphins act as painkillers and can also reduce feelings of stress allowing you to feel more relaxed and energized. So next time you need an extra push to hit the treadmill or lift some weights, just remember that exercise has some seriously powerful psychological benefits too.

Read a Book – Choose a book that is not only entertaining but helps to refocus your mind in a positive direction

While watching television may be the more popular option for unwinding after a hard day, nothing beats reading a good book. Not only is it an enjoyable way to spend your time, but turning the pages of an engaging novel can help you refocus your mind in a positive direction and distract you from any worrisome thoughts that might have crept in throughout the day. To maximize its effectiveness as a relaxation technique, make sure to choose books that are both entertaining and inspiring. That way, not only will you give yourself a much-needed break from reality, but also fill your head with uplifting ideas and stories that can help keep you in high spirits even when things get tough.

Light Some Candles – The soft flicker of candles has been proven to create an atmosphere of relaxation in any room.

Imagine coming home after a long day, kicking off your shoes, and sinking onto the couch. As you take a deep breath, you notice the soft flicker of candles in the corner of the room. Instantly, you feel a sense of calm wash over you as you sink deeper into the cushions. It’s amazing how the simple act of lighting a candle can transform a space into one that induces relaxation and serenity. Whether you’re winding down after a busy day or trying to create a tranquil atmosphere for yoga or meditation, lighting some candles is a small gesture that can make a big impact. So why not try it out for yourself and see the difference it can make in your life?

Create a “Todo” list for the next day – Writing down what needs to be done the following day will help reduce stress

As the day comes to a close, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with thoughts about what needs to be accomplished tomorrow. Instead of letting that stress keep you up all night, take a moment to create a “Todo” list for the next day. Writing down everything that needs to be done can provide a sense of relief, freeing up your mind to truly relax and unwind. Plus, with a clear plan in place, you’ll feel more productive and motivated to tackle your tasks in the morning. So grab a pen and paper, jot down your priorities, and enjoy a peaceful evening knowing that you have a game plan for tomorrow. Not only will it help you relax, but it can also improve your overall productivity.

Taking the time to relax after a hard day is essential for maintaining good mental health. Remember, it’s ok to take time out of your busy schedule to look after yourself as it will have lasting benefits. Whether you choose to take a hot bath or shower and listen to calming music, go for a run, read a book by candlelight, or make “todo” lists for tomorrow, it won’t be long before you feel more relaxed and energized. As the saying goes “Work smarter, not harder”, so set aside some distraction-free downtime where you can destress and practice self-care. In doing so, you restore your mind and body balance which will help you to be more productive in life overall.

Titans President and CEO says WWE has committed WrestleMania to Nashville in 2027

Tennessee Titans President and CEO Burke Nihill said that WWE has committed to have WrestleMania in Nashville in 2027 to open up the brand new stadium. Nihill made the statement while appearing on 3HL 104.5 The Zone.

“I mean, we just know these folks well. There’s been a shift in how they do them over the last ten years,” Nihill said. “It used to be that they were looking for just a really good, whatever the event is they were doing, and now these are week-long festivals or whatever they are, so it’s great for the community.”

Nihill said that the community will get to experience it whether or not they have a ticket and WWE will create a lot of jobs and a lot of economic benefits that come with having WrestleMania coming to town.

“WrestleMania isn’t hypothetical, by the way. WrestleMania has already committed to 2027,” he added.

Late last year, the Nashville Tennessean newspaper reported that WWE has promised Butch Spyridon, the CEO of Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp, that if the $2.1 billion stadium is built in time, they will award them WrestleMania 43.

Robert Roode undergoes second spinal fusion surgery

Former NXT champion Robert Roode underwent a successful second spinal fusion surgery last week. The surgery was performed by Dr Andy Cordover of the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

“Another trip around the sun and another trip to Birmingham Alabama,” Roode wrote on what was his 47th birthday. “Quite a way to celebrate my birthday lol. Had a C4/5 cervical fusion to go along with the C5/6 fusion back in November.”

Roode has not wrestled on television since April 2022, with his last appearance coming at the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on Smackdown during WrestleMania 38 weekend. His last match was on June 25 against Omos at a non-televised live event in Amarillo, Texas.

It is unknown how long Roode will be out of action for again but typical recovery time for light movements is around six weeks and months until Roode can even think of getting back in the ring.

Understanding the Wrestling Landscape

To successfully bet on wrestling matches, it’s crucial to have a thorough understanding of the wrestling landscape. This includes familiarising yourself with the various wrestling promotions, such as WWE, AEW, NJPW, and IMPACT, as well as their respective rosters, storylines, and upcoming events. By keeping abreast of developments in the wrestling world, you’ll be better positioned to make informed bets and maximise your chances of success.

Different Types of Wrestling Bets

There are several different types of wrestling bets to consider, each offering unique challenges and rewards. Here are some of the most popular options:
