2016 Royal Rumble pay-per-view report

Here is the full report of the Royal Rumble, which took place at the Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida.

In the Kickoff match, a fatal four way match featuring The Dudley Boyz, The Ascension, Jack Swagger and Mark Henry, and Damien Sandow and Darren Young wrestled for a chance to enter the Rumble. Mark Henry and Jack Swagger advanced after winning the match with Henry getting the pin.

Mr McMahon and Stephanie McMahon arrive in a limo and the boss is in a great mood. They are interviewed by JoJo. Cold open…one vs all and the road to WrestleMania begins…now! 15,170 fans are packing the Amway Arena.

The first match is the Last Man Standing match for the Intercontinental title between Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens. They both start the match chopping each other and then Ambrose went for a suicide dive on Owens who was on the outside, taking out Michael Cole in the process as well, breaking his glasses! Hah.  The kendo stick makes an appearance and after trading blows, Owens hit the Cannonball on Ambrose, driving him through the security wall for the first “holy shit” chant of the night. Owens throws in six chairs in the ring and is back body dropped through two of them.

Ambrose tries another suicide dive but Owens caught him and destroys him outside the ring. KO gets two tables out and stacks them up…for later. Ambrose hits the Dirty Deeds twice, once on a chair. Owens manages to break the 10 count. Ambrose sets up another table outside and puts KO on it and he drops an elbow from the top rope and outside the ring through the table. Ambrose tries to superplex KO through a table however Owens turns it and Ambrose is the one who goes through it instead. Owens then sets up Ambrose on a bunch of chairs and goes on the top rope but Ambrose stands up and pushes Owens through the two stacked tables underneath. Referee counts to 10 and Owens fails to stand up in time. Dean Ambrose wins and retains the Intercontinental title!

Up next is the WWE Tag Team titles match with The New Day vs The Usos. New Day comes out still mourning Francesca the trombone. Moment of silence is requested but Xavier Woods walks out with Francesca 2, the new trombone. The New Day takes early control of the match and the crowd boos every time The Usos get the upper hand. Crowd chants “Play Francesca” to Xavier who does not, getting some boos of his own. After the hot tag, Jimmy Uso comes in to clean house but Big E turns things around and spears Jimmy through the ropes and both fly out the ring. Jey Uso goes for the big splash amidst the boos and hits it but Kofi’s leg was under the ropes so the ref does not count. Jey then goes for another splash and Big E catches him in mid air for the Big Ending. 1, 2, 3 and it’s over! The New Day retains the titles.

WWE 24 commercial for the new episode titled WrestleMania: Silicon Valley airs. The behind-the-scenes program airs right after the Royal Rumble on the WWE Network, which is free for new subscribers. You can subscribe here!

Bray Wyatt and the Wyatt Family promo. The apocalypse is here. RUN!

United States championship match is next on the card with Alberto Del Rio vs Kalisto. New outfit for Kalisto who is wearing white and black. Del Rio starts with the upper hand, totally overpowering the much smaller Kalisto. Del Rio tries to remove Kalisto’s mask but Kalisto manages to escape with his mask on. Del Rio goes for the second running enziguri but Kalisto moves and then hits Del Rio with a spinning DDT. Kalisto tries a move but botches it badly, landing on his head. He goes for the cover but ADR kicks out. Kalisto hits the Salida Del Sol but Del Rio grabs the ropes on the two count to break it. Del Rio recovers and then exposes the steel turnbuckle. The move backfires on Del Rio, who eats the exposed turnbuckle himself and a Salida Del Sol later we have a new United States champion!

Backstage segment with Paul Heyman and Stephanie McMahon, who is shining in red. Heyman tells Steph that Brock Lesnar will walk into WrestleMania as the champion. Paul wants to renegotiate Lesnar’s deal but Steph says that will only happen if his client takes his aggression on Roman Reigns.

The Divas title will be up for grabs next with Charlotte vs Becky Lynch. Two time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair is in his daughter’s corner. The two start trading moves and each trying their finishing move. With the action moving outside the ring, Charlotte uses her father as a shield but Becky manages to get to Charlotte anyway. Ric then grabs Becky and plants a kiss on her lips, a move that Becky did not like and slapped him across the face. With the distraction, Charlotte gains the upper hand for the majority of the match. Charlotte goes for the Figure 8 however Becky counters and takes control of the match. However out of nowhere Charlotte hits the spear to turn the tide again. Charlotte tries a baseball slide and Becky moves and hits her dad. Becky goes for the Disarmer but Ric Flair threw his jacket at Becky and Charlotte then hits another spear for the pin.

Following the match, Charlotte beats up Becky some more but Sasha Banks’ music hits to a massive pop. Sasha kicks Becky and then shakes hand with her former NXT tag team partner. As Charlotte helps her dad out of the ring, Sasha hits the Bank Statement on Charlotte to another massive pop from the crowd. She holds up the title and struts backwards.

The Royal Rumble 30-man over-the-top rope match is next! Remember, this is for the WWE World Heavyweight title. Roman Reigns is the first one out and is booed out of the building. Ouch! Coming out at number two is Rusev, who comes out with Lana.

The other entrants were AJ Styles, Tyler Breeze, Curtis Axel, Chris Jericho, Kane, Goldust, Ryback, Kofi Kingston, Titus O’Neil, R-Truth, Luke Harper, Stardust, Big Show, Neville, Braun Strowman, Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose, Sami Zayn, Erick Rowan, Mark Henry, Brock Lesnar, Jack Swagger, The Miz, Alberto Del Rio, Bray Wyatt, Dolph Ziggler, Sheamus, and Triple H.

At one point, Rusev, Del Rio, and Sheamus came out with Vince McMahon and attacked Roman Reigns outside the ring. Reigns was put on one of the announce tables, and Rusev ran across and hit a big splash. After that, McMahon and League of Nations went to the back. Reigns was taken to the back by EMTs however he was not eliminated. Reigns returned later in the match after entrant #29 came out.

Kevin Owens was the one who eliminated AJ Styles to a massive chorus of boos. Before sending AJ flying out, Owens told him “Welcome to the WWE!” Getting some payback, Sami Zayn then eliminated Kevin Owens.

The Miz went straight to commentary rather than in the ring when he came out and decided to wait for the perfect time to go in.

After being eliminated by Brock Lesnar, the Wyatt Family returned to attack Lesnar when Bray came out. They eventually ganged up on him and eliminated Lesnar. Did not go well with the fans.

The surprise entrants were AJ Styles, Sami Zayn, and Triple H, who came out at #30.

The final four were Roman Reigns, Triple H, Sheamus, and Ambrose. Reigns eliminated Sheamus and Triple H eliminated Reigns to a big pop from the crowd. Ambrose and Triple H then fought it out with the crowd firmly behind Ambrose however Triple H eliminated Ambrose, winning his 14th World Heavyweight title.

After the Rumble match ended, Stephanie and Vince McMahon came out to celebrate the win in the ring with Triple H as fireworks went off!

Sunny talks about Vivid sex tape in Facebook post

Addressing the release of her Vivid sex tape on her Facebook for the first time, WWE Hall of Famer Tammy “Sunny” Sytch said that she doesn’t “give a rats ass” about those who hate her, but thanked those fans who love her and for their support.

“Before you pass judgement, and I know you will, just know something…. If you were offered what I was offered, you’d be doing it to. And don’t you dare say you wouldn’t,” Sunny wrote. Vivid’s initial $100,000 offer was refused but apparently their second offer was much more higher, a sum that the former most downloaded celebrity on AOL couldn’t refuse.

“I’m a business woman, and a very smart one at that. I wouldn’t do anything if it wasn’t completely beneficial for me and my future,” she concluded.

The title of her new sex tape is called “Sunny Side Up: In Through the Backdoor.”

Bullet Club curtain call at ROH show in Duluth, Georgia

Ring of Honor fans yesterday said farewell to AJ Styles and two other Bullet Club members, Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson, in their final match for the promotion before heading to WWE.

The ROH show in Duluth, Georgia, had a main event of The Bullet Club – Gallows, Anderson and the Young Bucks – taking on Jay Lethal, War Machine, and Roderick Strong where The Bullet club did the job. After the match was over, AJ Styles joined his team mates and they all hugged each other similar to what The Kliq did back in 1996 at Madison Square Garden. Out of all of them, only the Young Bucks are remaining with ROH and New Japan.

AJ Styles did not wrestle during the show but did perform the Styles Clash after interrupting a promo. You can see the curtain call moment below.

Triple H the favorite to win the Rumble according to online betting companies

Interesting enough, Triple H is the favorite among online betting companies to win the Royal Rumble and the WWE World Heavyweight title tonight with odds as low as 2/5. Triple H isn’t even officially in the Rumble itself but many are predicting he will return and serve payback to Roman Reigns. Roman Reigns is next in line as the favorite to retain while following him are Brock Lesnar, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose and Daniel Bryan.

In other matches, Del Rio is favorite to retain at 2/7, Charlotte is also favorite in the Divas match at 4/9, Dean Ambrose is at 4/9 to also keep his IC title, and The New Day at 4/7 over The Usos to hold on to their straps. For the Kickoff match, the Dudley Boyz are 4/6 to win followed by Henry and Swagger at 5/4 and The Ascension and Young and Sandow at distant third with both at 7/1. All the bets are most likely to change once “smart money” comes in later tonight.

There are several other bets being offered on the Rumble, with the most notable being the Suplex City specials where users can bet on total number of suplexes delivered by Brock Lesnar during the event or whether Brock suplexes Braun Strowman, Vince McMahon or even Paul Heyman! Other bets include a variety of Royal Rumble records, who will enter at number 30, number of eliminations by all top favorites, the last eliminated participant and whether HHH, Daniel Bryan, A.J. Styles, Sami Zayn and John Cena (amongst others) will take part in the Rumble match. Another bet is whether Tough Enough winner Josh will be on the receiving end of at least one suplex by Lesnar following his disrespectful comment on Twitter earlier in the week.

These companies are also offering Wrestlemania related markets where users can bet on the World Heavyweight Championship and Divas title holders at the end of WM 32 as well as whether CM Punk or Ronda Rousey will make an appearance at the Texas event. The full list of bets can be found at https://www.888sport.com/bet/#/group/2000089034/category/11120.

Jerry Lawler dropped from the Rumble broadcast team

There will be a change in the commentary team for the Royal Rumble tonight as WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler seems like he lost his spot at the PPV broadcast booth.

Lawler confirmed on Twitter that the Raw broadcast team will be handling the Royal Rumble tonight, with the team of Michael Cole, Byron Saxton, and JBL on the mic.

Jerry Lawler, who recently went back to his heel commentary, will be doing the Rumble pre-show and the panel during the Rumble itself.

This will be the first pay-per-view without Lawler in a very, very long time.

Smackdown rating for 01/21/2016

The final Smackdown before the Royal Rumble on USA Network had a total of 2,757,000 viewers, pretty much the same audience the first Smackdown on USA did three weeks ago. The number reflected an increase of 400,000 viewers from the previous week. (Ratings credit: Showbuzzdaily.com)

Behrens blames TNA and its lawyer for Bullet Club members fiasco

In a full statement issued to Pro Wrestling Insider, Bill Behrens blamed the chaos between Bullet Club members AJ Styles, Doc Gallows, and Karl Anderson and TNA on TNA’s part, specifically mentioning their first lawyer for not presenting a contract that accurately reflected previous discussions in a timely manner.

Behrens said that TNA knew that he had to be involved in the contract process and it was understood by them however he was left out of the talks. “TNA was aware of other interest and various conflicts. TNA was aware a final contract was required. It was creating that contract and controlled that timetable. Too much time passed early on. Other things came into play. No contract was ever finalized with TNA,” Behrens told PWInsider.

He also said that that he did not make any decision for any of his clients, calling the rumors that he pulled the strings as an insult to the talent who can freely make their own decisions. The full statement reads as follows:

“No contract was ever finalized nor signed by the parties. That I would need to be involved in the contract process was known by TNA prior to my involvement and understood by them. TNA and its 1st lawyer did not present in a timely fashion a contract that accurately reflected previous discussions at all. That created great concern tied to past experiences. In that time and prior there was other interest and there were other firm offers on the table and other discussions. TNA was aware of other interest and various conflicts. TNA was aware a final contract was required. It was creating that contract and controlled that timetable. Too much time passed early on. Other things came into play. No contract was ever finalized with TNA. To suggest I make any decision for my clients is to misunderstand my role and diminish the role each talent has in making their own decisions, and insults the talent in the process.”

AJ Styles’ agent dismisses TNA’s claim of new signed deal

The saga of Bullet Club members AJ Styles, Doc Gallows, and Karl Anderson took an interesting turn yesterday after TNA claimed that the trio signed a TNA deal in December but then decided to back out of the deal.

The Live Audio Wrestling show on The Fight Network spoke to Bill Behrens, who is in charge for all the deals involving AJ Styles, and Behrens refuted TNA’s reports, saying that no contract was “ever signed or finalized by any of the parties.”

The question now is if the deal that TNA is saying that all of them signed was in fact legally binding or not. Styles apparently can not sign any deals without his agent’s signature, and that is Bill Behrens. Behrens was not present when the deal that TNA is talking about took place.

It will be interesting to see if TNA will take legal action and even try to prevent the trio from making their WWE debut although if the rumors are true TNA is running out of time as Styles is expected to debut either tomorrow or Monday on Raw.

Austin Aries debuts at NXT tapings in Orlando

The big surprise Triple H alluded to on Twitter regarding the NXT tapings yesterday ended up being the arrival of Austin Aries.

The former TNA champion came out during the fourth set of tapings which will air on March 2 and was immediately set up in an angle that will probably culminate at the NXT Takeover: Dallas live WWE Network show during WrestleMania weekend.

Aries was introduced by NXT General Manager William Regal and received a massive pop when he came out and his name was splashed on the screen. You can see the video of his entrance below.

TNA says Styles, Gallows, and Anderson signed TNA deal but then changed their mind

The TNA website at ImpactWrestling.com is featuring a large image of AJ Styles on the main page with a story detailing the behind-the-scenes negotiations that were supposed to bring back Styles to TNA.

“In the last few weeks, rumors have swirled about AJ Styles, his future and TNA Wrestling. Fans have asked for the status and wrestling media have made numerous inquiries,” the story reads. TNA says that both parties have been involved in “serious discussions” to bring AJ back to TNA along with Drew Hankinson and Chad Allegra – better known to fans as Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson.

All three wrestlers attended a meeting on December 14 at Dixie Carter’s home in Nashville, Tennessee, where all of them signed a written deal with TNA. “Start dates were determined, creative decided, merchandise designed and plane tickets purchased,” the story adds before saying that over the Christmas holiday, and after the lawyers finalized the long form agreement, all communication with TNA stopped.

“AJ’s lawyer contacted TNA and stated the wrestlers had changed their mind and would not be honoring their commitment to TNA,” the company stated.

All three are expected to debut very soon in WWE, with Styles reportedly ready for either the Rumble or the next day on Raw.

Austin Aries backstage at NXT tonight and expected to debut

PWInsider.com is reporting that former TNA World champion Austin Aries is backstage at the CFE Arena for tonight’s NXT tapings and is expected to make his NXT debut.

Towards the end of November of last year, Aries was photographed arriving at Full Sail University and signed autographs for fans who waited outside prior to the NXT television tapings however Aries never showed up in front of cameras during the tapings.

The website also reports that Aries was in Pittsburgh earlier, undergoing the mandatory medical tests required prior to joining WWE.

The 37 year old has never stepped foot inside a WWE ring and made a big name for himself at Ring of Honor and at TNA where he had two stints, one in 2005 for two years, and then returning in 2011 till 2015.

Live matches, meet and greets, autograph signings, Q&A sessions, and guest appearances will be part of the WWE Experience. NXT was a big success at last year’s Arnold Sports Festival and served also as a lead in to Arnold Schwarzenegger being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Judge in Hogan vs Gawker case suggests to reach out-of-court settlement

The Tampa Bay Times is reporting that the judge overseeing the Hulk Hogan vs Gawker case has suggested to both parties to “seek mediation” instead of a trial. Judge Pamela Campbell made her suggestion during a discussion about attorneys’ upcoming review of DVDs made during an FBI sting operation.

“After the attorneys have an opportunity to look at those DVDs, I’m going to suggest that the attorneys or that you go back to mediation. I’m not going to require it, but I think you’ll see why.”

Both sides will now review a total of five DVDs supplied by the FBI, DVDs that the judge has already reviewed. She said that some of the DVDs are definitely not admissible in court and urged the attorneys to listen to the audio from the FBI sting operation before they watch the videos.

“I’ll let you all review them, and then we can discuss what each side wants to do with them, which for the majority of those DVDs, it’s slim to none.”

If they can’t reach an out-of-court settlement, the trial will head to jury selection on March 7.

He and Rowan place Reigns back in the ring, where Strowman slams him and Bray finishes with Sister Abigail. The Wyatts pose over Roman and Bray yells “follow the buzzards” to close the show.

End of Smackdown!

Reporter’s Rumblings

This was a pretty-good Smackdown! for the final show before Royal Rumble; it didn’t feel too much like “going through the motions” and set up/gave momentum to it as well.

Excellence: Six-Man and Becky/Fox matches. Promos from Jericho/New Day, Bray, Kalisto, Reigns, Ambrose, and Owens. Loved The Wyatt Family being strong at the end and feeling like an almost-legit contender to win (he’s not going to, but at least they’ve built the Family strong, so I think they’ll go a long time in the Rumble.)

Bogus: could’ve done without Titus/Stardust again! The Four-On-One of course too predictable for a beat-down and then save, so would’ve preferred Roman to face just one of the League.

Royal Rumble Predictions: Becky Lynch to win Divas Championship – Charlotte will then blame Ric for putting her in that, but will move on until the next Championship bout; Usos to be new Tag-Champs; Ambrose/Owens will be a draw after a brutal/long contest – leads to a ladder match for the final time between them; Del Rio to retain and keep the League strong; Triple H returns and wins ‘Rumble, setting up Reigns VS. “The Game” at WrestleMania.

I’m really looking forward to Royal Rumble, so can’t wait to give you my analysis after Raw! Until then, Be Excellent Wrestling-Online Fans!

Gawker Media, the company facing the $100 million lawsuit by Hulk Hogan over the leaked sex tape, has sold a minority stake of its company to Columbus Nova Technology Partners, an investment company.

The latest issue of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that Daniel Bryan underwent a series of concussion tests at the University of California (UCLA) and he passed all of them.

That is the good news for the former WWE World Heavyweight champion however the bad news, and the one that really matters the most, is that WWE’s head doctor, Dr. Maroon, has not given Bryan the green light to return.

Daniel Bryan has not wrestled since April 14, 2015, after he suffered a concussion during a Smackdown taping in the United Kingdom in a match against Sheamus. Bryan was pulled from the tour and put on out of action due to a long history of concussions he had received.

Bryan has now been cleared after two separate tests performed months apart but WWE is still reluctant in clearing him to return to the ring. Bryan has stated in the past that should he leave WWE, he would return to the indies and perform there. There were several reports that WWE offered Bryan a commentary job on Smackdown and even a coaching role at NXT, two offers that Bryan turned down since his ultimate goal is to return to action.
