Smackdown! Live TV report for 10/31/2017

Introduction Segment: Video and Arena Promo

The regular Smackdown! opener plays and then we go live to the arena in Norfolk, Virginia! “Here Comes The Money” plays and out dances the Commissioner – Shane McMahon! He puts over Smackdown! as having “heart” and two great runners in himself and General Manager Daniel Bryan. He explains why a lot of the Smackdown! roster attacked Raw last week – because Raw has always put down Smackdown! in an “inferior” role. (True and not true, depending on the year.) Shane says that notion was more prevalent last night when Daniel was assaulted by Kane on Raw.

McMahon then names himself Captain of Smackdown’s team at Survivor Series! He then moves on to the action for tonight!

Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler make their entrances for their bout, up next!

Commercials.

Match #1: Two-Out-Of-Three Falls, Single – Bobby Roode VS. Dolph Ziggler

(Note: Winner is placed on Team Smackdown for Survivor Series)

They go back-and-forth with light slams and hits to start. Both try their finishers but are blocked, and then Dolph rams his shoulders into Roode’s gut in the corner. Bobby fires back with a clothesline and rams Ziggler’s head off of the turnbuckle, and then double-boots him out of the corner. He leaps from the second turnbuckle with a neckbreaker for a near-fall! He then dumps Ziggler to the floor shortly after and reverses a whip, hurling Dolph into the barrier.

Roode chops and knees Ziggler on the outside and then rolls him back into the ring, but suddenly eats a Superkick as they both got back into the ring! Dolph falls on him for the 1 – 2 – 3!

Winner of Fall #1 via Pinfall: Dolph Ziggler

Commercials.

It is announced that we are now tied as Bobby got a fall with a sunset-flip out of the corner!

Winner of Fall #2 via Pinfall: Bobby Roode

Roode almost gets this with a powerslam and tries again for his finisher, but Ziggler reverses into a tie-up, which Bobby reverses into a sunset-flip for another two! Dolph plants Roode with his Jumping-DDT but only gets two! They battle for a bit again, and then Ziggler hops out of Bobby’s Glorious DDT and into his Zig-Zag reverse-flatliner/neckbreaker! 1 – 2 – Roode just lifts his shoulder!

Dolph “tunes up the band” like Shawn Michaels, but Roode moves out of the way and rolls him up; Ziggler turns the roll-up over, but Bobby reverses that and drives Dolph to the canvas with his Glorious DDT! He covers and receives the victory!

Winner of Final Fall via Pinfall and ADVANCING to Survivor Series: Bobby Roode

Post-match, Roode is interviewed by Rene Young; he puts over Smackdown! and who’s on the team for Survivor Series.

Later tonight, Shinsuke Nakamura and Kevin Owens will wrestle to determine another spot on Team Smackdown!, and A.J. Styles faces Samir Singh.

Corbin tries to get the better of Sin right away by tearing at Cara’s mask. He continues to dominate for a bit until Sin hits Baron on the outside with a forearm and then runs him into the steps. He pounds away on the floor and then charges at his legs. He runs at him again and they (awkwardly) tumble over the table. The bell suddenly rings and it is a no-contest.

Winner: None due to Referee Stoppage

Post-match, they continue to fight and Cara tosses a chair Baron’s way. Then quickly United States Champion bails through the crowd.

Samir slaps A.J. in the face to begin, but Styles sweeps him up immediately and quickly finishes this with his Styles Clash!

Winner via Pinfall: A.J. Styles

Post-match, Mahal and Samil jump A.J. and lay a brutal beat-down on him.

Locker Room Promo

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are not pleased with how Commissioner Shane McMahon has named himself The Captain. However, they decide that when Kevin wins tonight and is on Team Smackdown!, then Smackdown! will win at Survivor Series, and McMahon will have to owe it all to Owens and Zayn, in which they will be able to do what they want! They would rename Smackdown! the Sami and Kevin Show.

The Bludgeon Brothers – Luke Harper and Erik Rowan – are coming!

Match #4: Single – Rusev (with Aiden English) VS. Big. E. (with New Day members Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston)

Commercials.

Rusev is still in control with an armlock on Big E, but E. gains some sudden momentum with a few belly-suplexes! He then drops a splash on Rusev and tries his finisher, but Rusev slides out and kicks Big in the head. Rusev runs into a one-arm slam! On the outside, New Day and Aiden get into it, which distracts Big and allows Rusev to kick him in the back-of-the-head and take this!

Winner via Pinfall: Rusev (with Aiden English)

(Note: Winner is on Team Smackdown at Survivor Series)

Shinsuke starts fast with strikes, so Owens takes a break on the floor. He goads Kevin into the ring and hits him with a knee, but Owens tricks Nakamura on the outside to take advantage. Shinsuke reverses a whip though, chucking Kevin into the barricade.

Commercials.

Owens is now controlling with a grounding rear-chinlock. Nakamura fights out of it and begin to clobber him with hands and feet. He places Kevin on the top ropes and runs at him with a knee-strike! Sami Zayn walks down and Owens rolls-up Shinsuke for a near-fall! Nakamura puts Kevin atop the turnbuckle but Owens counters and leaps off with a suplex! 1 – 2 – Shinsuke kicks out!

Nakamura reverses a Pop-Up Powerbomb and hits a knee, but Kevin doesn’t stay down. Shinsuke fires up for The Kin-Sasha, but Sami pulls Owens out of the ring! Nakamura follows but is thrown into the steps; Kevin jumps off of the top turnbuckle with a frogsplash for a very near-fall! He orders Zayn to “clear out that table,” which he does, but Randy Orton’s music hits! He comes out from the crowd and backdrops Sami onto the announcer’s table! Kevin turns around into a Kin-Sasha and Shinsuke covers for the victory!

Raw rating for 10/30/2017

Monday Night Raw drew an average of 2,854,000 viewers last night, down 98,000 viewers from last week’s broadcast.

Hour one started with 3,102,000 viewers, then dropped slightly to 2,943,000 viewers, before taking a plunge to 2,517,000 viewers. From hour one to hour three, Raw lost 585,000 viewers. Last week the show lost over 750,000 viewers from the first to the third hour.

Raw placed #4, #5, and #6 in the top 50 cable chart among the 18-49 demographic. The NFL on ESPN did over 10.4 million viewers. (Ratings credit: Showbuzzdaily.com)

Three matches announced for tonight’s Smackdown

Three matches have been announced for tonight’s Smackdown as the promotion for the Survivor Series continues.

Shinsuke Nakamura will be facing Kevin Owens with the winner joining the men’s Smackdown team for the Survivor Series 5-on-5 match against Team Raw. After going through Sunil Singh last week, AJ Styles will now take on the other twin brother, Samir Singh, and a 2-out-of-3 falls match will feature Bobby Roode taking on Dolph Ziggler.

The Smackdown Superstars will depart for Europe immediately following tonight’s show. The Raw roster has already crossed the Atlantic to get ready for tomorrow’s show in Glasgow, Scotland.

Strowman, Joe, Jax, and Dallas return on Raw

A few individuals made their return to Raw last night along with Stephanie McMahon.

Samoa Joe appeared after two months on the sidelines due to a knee injury. Joe suffered the injury during a non-televised live event in his match against John Cena in Jonesboro, Arkansas at the end of August. He underwent two minor surgeries, to fix his knee and nose, and is now ready to resume his full-time schedule with WWE. He wrestled Apollo Crews on the show and won the match.

Bo Dallas, who was the original cause of the virus outbreak in the locker room, also returned after he was cleared by WWE doctors. His brother Bray unfortunately wasn’t. Bray’s girlfriend and Raw ring announcer JoJo also returned after she was kept away as a precaution.

Nia Jax, who was rumored to have decided to not show up for work for being unhappy with how she’s being handled on television, defeated Bayley in her first match in several weeks and booked her place at the Survivor Series on the Raw women’s team. Two weeks ago, Alexa Bliss said that Jax was just resting after requesting some time off and she would be back sooner rather than later.

And finally, Braun Strowman, who we last saw at the TLC pay-per-view being crushed inside a garbage truck, came out from a similar garbage truck and went after The Miz and his Miztourage in the segment that closed Raw. Strowman beat the holy hell out of The Miz, first shaking the whole Raw set by throwing The Miz through the video wall and then threw Miz, Dallas, and Axel like bowling balls from the top of the stage down the ramp. As The Miz and Bo Dallas escaped, Curtis Axel suffered multiple running powerslams by Strowman as the crowd kept chanting “one more time.” Eventually that chant turned into “table, table” and Strowman drove Axel through the Raw commentary table to end the show. You can see the final segment of Raw below.

Nikki Bella eliminated from Dancing With The Stars after seven weeks

Halloween night was a nightmare for Nikki Bella on Dancing With The Stars as the former WWE Divas champion and her professional dance partner Artem Chigvintsev were eliminated from the competition.

The duo, known as Team Smackdown on the show, danced the Jive to ‘I Put a Spell on You’ by Bette Midler but the three judges were not that impressed, giving them 24 points – eight points each – to be joint bottom with another team.

Nikki and Artem lasted seven weeks in the competition and finished with a total of 206 points and an average of 22.9 points per episode. You can see her final performance below.

Rockstar Spud departs Impact Wrestling

Rockstar Spud has departed Impact Wrestling after the British star requested his release from the company reports PWInsider.com.

Spud won the British Boot Camp reality show in 2012 to land himself a TNA contract and a spot on the roster. In February 2013, he made his television debut and has been part of Impact ever since. Spud has not wrestled on TV since last May so his departure should not come as a surprise. During his time at Impact, he won the X Division title twice.

Ryan Satin of ProWrestlingSheet.com adds that WWE was interested in signing Spud for 205 Live or the UK show once that kicks off on the WWE Network.

Stephanie McMahon is back…and puts Kurt Angle on notice and back in the ring!

Stephanie McMahon, the Raw Commissioner, made her return last night on Raw and immediately put Kurt Angle on notice…and back in the ring for the Survivor Series.

McMahon, last seen at the conclusion of the Mae Young Classic finale, threatened Angle and told him that she will find a new General Manager if Team Raw does not annihilate Team Smackdown at the upcoming Survivor Series. She then named the WWE Hall of Famer the captain of Team Raw. Stephanie blamed Kurt for last week’s Smackdown takeover and said Shane embarrassed Angle and the whole Raw roster.

Angle has found himself back wrestling unexpectedly after Roman Reigns was ill and a replacement was needed for the TLC main event. Angle teamed with The Shield and defeated Miz, Strowman, Kane, Sheamus, and Cesaro in a 5-on-3 handicap TLC match.

The rumored Raw vs Smackdown traditional 5-on-5 match at the Survivor Series will pit Angle, Strowman, Reigns, Joe, and Balor vs Shane, Orton, Styles, Roode, and Nakamura.

Dwayne Johnson drops another hint at U.S. presidential run in 2020

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson dropped another big hint at a possible 2020 bid for the White House on Saturday night at Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con.

During a panel discussing his latest movie Jumaji: Welcome to the Jungle, an audience member asked Johnson about his bid for President of the United States. “I think the ‘People’s President’ has a really nice ring to that. I’ll just say that,” said Johnson. The exchange was originally reported by PEOPLE Magazine.

Johnson’s Comic Con appearance was sponsored by Entertainment Weekly and it was used to debut new footage for Jumanji.

“It was the opportunity that we had to introduce Jumanji to a whole new generation,” said Johnson. “Also, too, it was my personal way of really paying homage and respect to the one man who created the Jumanji magic to begin with, Mr. Robin Williams.”

The Rock was greeted by a whopping 20,000-strong crowd who chanted his name loudly. He also filmed a short video for his Instagram account saying that nobody showed up for his panel, then turns around and the crowd goes crazy. You can see the video below.

Lio Rush gets slammed by fellow stars for controversial tweet about Emma

Lio Rush, who was recently signed to a WWE developmental deal and is now on NXT, fired a controversial tweet after Emma was released, saying, “I guess these are the things that happen when you’re not TRULY ready for Asuka.”

The tweet did not go down well with people he works with and received some nasty replies to his stupid tweet. Bray Wyatt told him that he’s not going to last with the wolves while fellow NXT star Peyton Royce wrote, “Wow, kid. Didn’t you just get here? Professionalism goes a long way.” Even former star Rosa Mendes ripped him a new one. Others are also responding and let’s just say no one is on his side.

Realizing the world of trouble he’s in, Rush issued a statement, apologizing for his tweet and how it was “blown out of proportion.” He said that as a family man with a 4-year-old, he he would never laugh or mock the fact that someone lost his or her job.

“You’re an amazing performer and respected athlete by yours truly and I’m sure you will excel beyond expectations,” Rush wrote, trying to make some serious damage control. He then apologized to Emma and her fans for the inappropriate tweet and wished her good luck on “behalf of himself and WWE.”

Darren Young and Summer Rae released from WWE as well

Darren Young and Summer Rae also received their pink slips today from WWE, joining Emma on the unemployed list.

Young joined WWE in 2005 and participated in the first season of NXT in 2010 with his mentor CM Punk. After the season ended, Young joined the Nexus group which wrecked havoc in WWE. He returned to NXT in 2011 where he spent another year there before being called up to form The Prime Time Players with Titus O’Neil. Lately he was paired up with Bob Backlund. Several injuries kept Young off WWE television, putting on the breaks to whatever program he was participating in. Young became the first openly-gay wrestler in WWE, coming out publicly in August 2013. During his WWE career, he won the Tag Team titles once.

Summer Rae joined WWE in 2011, first under a developmental deal at Florida Championship Wrestling and then NXT, where she did ring announcing before transitioning to in-ring wrestling. In 2013, she was called up to the main roster and debuted as Fandango’s dance partner. Rae was also part of the Total Divas cast and was a permanent member of the cast for season two and three. Rae spent most of 2016 injured and has not appeared on WWE television for around a year.

Emma released from WWE

WWE Superstar Emma is gone from WWE as the company today announced her sudden departure in a very short statement.

“WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar Emma. WWE wishes Emma the best in all of her future endeavors.”

The 28-year-old Australian joined WWE in 2011 and was assigned to Florida Championship Wrestling before joining NXT. She remained there up until the end of 2013 and in January 2014, she joined the main roster. A year later, after her stint in the main roster didn’t work out as expected, she returned to NXT. Main roster came back calling in 2016 but Emma suffered a back injury that kept her out for the rest of the year.

In October of that same year, WWE started airing a vignette titled “Makeover of Emma to Emmalina.” After countless restarts and four months of vignettes, Emmalina made her quick debut in February, announcing on the stage that it’s now time for the “makeover from Emmalina to Emma,” with WWE killing the character before it even made its debut.

Her last match was against Asuka this past Monday on Raw.

WWE reacts to VICE.com Warrior story

WWE reacted to VICE.com’s story regarding the Ultimate Warrior and the use of his likeness in WWE’s latest campaign against cancer with Susan G. Komen.

The company wasn’t thrilled with the story and issued a statement reading, “WWE’s ‘Unleash Your Warrior’ breast cancer awareness campaign and annual ‘Warrior Award’ recognize individuals that exhibit the strength and courage of WWE’s legendary character The Ultimate Warrior. Any attempt to distract from the mission of these initiatives and take the spotlight away from the honorees is unfortunately misguided.”

While WWE and Warrior did not have the best relationships over the years, things did a full 180 when Warrior agreed to come back, welcoming him and his family back with open arms. When Warrior passed away a few days after his Hall of Fame induction and the night after appearing on Raw, the company bent over backwards to help Dana and her kids adjust to their new life. Dana Warrior is now a brand ambassador for WWE.

Tony Schiavone brings back Control Center to hype up Starrcade

With a WCW microphone in his hand, former WWE and WCW commentator Tony Schiavone stepped back in time to do a Control Center segment for Starrcade, the upcoming non-televised special event that WWE will do on November 25 from the Greensboro Coliseum.

Complete with 80s graphics, Schiavone runs down the card which will feature two steel cage matches in honor of the first ever Starrcade. The first Starrcade, titled A Flair for the Gold, also took place at the Greensboro Coliseum in 1983, and featured Harley Race vs Ric Flair for the NWA title.

There are still several tickets available for the show, although the arena is largely full. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com.

You can see Tony Schiavone’s Control Center segment for Starrcade below.

VICE looks at Warrior’s sketchy past and association with WWE’s campaign against cancer

Over the years, the Ultimate Warrior was a very controversial person, saying things that maybe he shouldn’t have said, but regardless, they were said and everyone is aware of them no matter if his comments are deleted from his social media accounts.

Vice.com is running a story titled “WWE is Whitewashing The Ultimate Warrior’s Bigoted Past,” looking at the things Warrior said and wondering why WWE is using him in the latest campaign against cancer.

Warrior made several nasty comments about multiple individuals, including the Hurricane Katrina victims, Heath Ledger, his “queer studies” speech at the Conservative Alliance event at DePaul University, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, The British Bulldog, and many others.

When Bobby Heenan was diagnosed with cancer, Warrior wrote, “As for you, Booby Heenan, it’s just too difficult to keep a straight face talking about the pure two-faced bag of shit you are (and have always been), what, with you also actually wearing one as a piece of body jewelry. You are dying, diseased on the inside, and no more time is left to get back any of the integrity that matters the most on death’s bed. Imagine what it will be like, lying there taking in your last breaths, knowing you whored yourself out your whole life, and had to, in your final years, be faced with emptying your own personal shit bag affirming to you the true value of what you achieved in your life. Not even Vince could come up with a better finish than this. Karma is just a beautiful thing to behold.”

The comments regarding a cancer victim surely raised eyebrows when WWE decided to use the Unleash Your Warrior campaign with Susan G. Komen for their October campaign.

Vice also reached out to Dana Warrior for comments regrading their story. Dana said, “I will not be disloyal to my husband’s memory or speak ill of a man who is not here to defend himself. I can, however, tell you his heart was changed by conversations with his two daughters. The true testament of the man behind the character is his ability to evolve. My husband did just that.”
