WWE SummerSlam 2023 Pick’em report

Hello everybody! It’s @TheMagnumDA with you here for tonight’s SummerSlam Pick’em report. Colin will be defending the WOPC Championship in a Triple Threat against myself and the ever-dangerous Heel Turn Tom. This is easily one of the most exciting nights of the year, so let’s not waste any more time.

ON WITH THE PICKS!!

Ricochet vs. Logan Paul

Colin: This should be a good one! Paul has been doing some jobs since he came in and I’m thinking one of these days he has to register a win, right? I like Ricochet, but if there’s someone WWE would be able to “sacrifice” to lose to Paul, it would be him. Paul wins.

Heel Turn Tom: WWE likes their celebrities and Logan has been impressive. Logan Paul gets the pin over Ricochet.

Magnum: Man, I really think Ricochet could use the win here, but this is being built like Logan Paul has something to prove. I think they’ll have a chance to steal the show here, but I’m taking Paul for the win.

WWE Intercontinental Championship
Gunther (c) (with Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci) vs. Drew McIntyre

Colin: If there wasn’t the Honky Tonk Man record coming soon, I would have picked Drew McIntyre to win this one. But I can’t see WWE screwing up Gunther’s record, and we all know how they are about breaking records of yesteryear. Has the potential to be the match of the night but Gunther will walk out of Detroit still champion.

Heel Turn Tom: Gunther is not too far from breaking the Honky Tonk Man’s record. After a hard hitting match, Gunther will still be the champ.

Magnum: I don’t know where Drew is with his contract talks, but until a new deal is hammered out, Drew will be joining Matt Riddle in the loser’s line. Gunther retains.

MMA Rules
Ronda Rousey vs. Shayna Baszler

Colin: This is Rousey’s last match for the next foreseeable future and you would think she would lose on her way out. And I think she will. Baszler is her friend and she would greatly benefit from a win over Rousey. It would set up a good return match down the line. Shayna for the big upset!

Heel Turn Tom: With Ronda supposedly leaving, I hope she puts her friend over as the new baddest woman in WWE. Shayna Baszler with the win and hopefully a good push to follow.

Magnum: I keep going back and forth on this one. While it’s still considered an upset, Shayna is actually favored in Vegas to win this one…and I can’t go against that. I’ll take Shayna to win.

SummerSlam Battle Royal

Colin: L.A. Knight. Yeah! Anyone else, and everyone is going to be shitting on them.

Heel Turn Tom: It has to be L.A. Knight, right? He is hot and need to push him. So Knight last eliminates Sheamus for the W.

Magnum: I hate going consensus so far, but yeah this Battle Royal has L.A. Knight’s name written all over it. I’ll take Knight for the breakout win.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Seth “Freakin” Rollins (c) vs. Finn Bálor

Colin: This is a tricky one. If it was me booking it, I would give Finn Balor the title. He certainly deserves it and needs a win against Rollins. Then again, Rollins just won it a few months ago and I’m not sure they want to pull a switch just now. I want a Balor win, but think Seth is going to win this one.

Heel Turn Tom: I’m going with Seth winning over Finn, but after a grueling match Damian Priest cashes in to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. I better get bonus points when this happens.

Magnum: Sorry Tom, we aren’t doing bonus points for cash-ins! Haha, that said, I am actually going against the grain here. I’d like to believe that a cash-in is possible, but wouldn’t it be something if Damian cashed in on Finn? Interesting. Let’s go with that scenario. Regardless of the cash-in, I’ll take Finn Balor to win this match.

WWE Women’s Championship – Triple Threat
Asuka (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Bianca Belair

Colin: I really don’t know about this one. Hopefully it won’t be Charlotte, let’s just say that LOL! Belair had a long run with it and Asuka hasn’t really impressed much. I say Asuka wins but IYO SKY will cash in the briefcase and wins! NEW CHAMPION!

Heel Turn Tom: I know WWE has been pushing Asuka, but I am going to predict that comes to an end and Charlotte Flair wins with a figure 8 on Belair to keep a story with Asuka and Flair going.

Magnum: All this cash-in talk is getting me excited! Again, no bonus points for calling an IYO SKY cash-in, but it’s very possible! I do agree with Colin, though…Asuka has never beaten Charlotte Flair in a big-time PPV match, and this would be another notch on her belt. I’ll take Asuka to retain, regardless of what happens afterwards.

Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar

Colin: I thought they would do a gimmick match for the third match. This probably won’t be long but it will be great. After the beatings he’s been getting, I have no doubt that Cody Rhodes will win this one and hopefully gets back on track to finish the damn story.

Heel Turn Tom: This story has been going on all summer and I am guessing it ends at Summer Slam. I assume that Cody will eventually defeat Roman so I am seeing a clean pin over Brock in this match.

Magnum: Wow. Well, this is Cody’s chance to finish the story. Well, maybe not the big story, but at least this story for the Summer. Brock seems to be heading off into the sunset (again), so let’s take Cody here and let’s get him on track for another World Championship match. Unless…Brian Pillman Jr. has anything to say about it! ;o)

Tribal Combat – Winner is Tribal Chief & WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion
Roman Reigns (c) (with Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa) vs. Jey Uso

Colin: Expecting some twists and turns in this one. It’s going to be a war alright and we will love it. Tons of near falls for sure but Roman Reigns will come out victorious. Jey is not ready and he will fall to the Tribal Chief.

Heel Turn Tom: When Roman loses, it has to be at a WrestleMania. I hope the Tribal Chief brings in some new members like the Guerrillas of Destiny to help him keep his title. Due to some shenanigans, Roman will still be the WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion.

Magnum: This feels like the final chapter. Who will be the Tribal Chief at the end of the night? I’m not sure. I do think that whoever wins this match…they’re going to be subject to a beat-down by either The Judgment Day or Bobby Lashley’s crew. No matter who wins, the family is going to need each other. I’ll take Roman to retain, and I’ll take Jey to help Roman after a savage post-match beat-down from an outside stable.

Alright everyone, that’s the SummerSlam 2023 Pick’em report! Enjoy the show, and we’ll see you next time! @TheMagnumDA signing off.
